All I need is a personal pass on a carb-free day & one delicious donut ad on Instagram to send me on a wild-goose chase after some tantalizing donuts! That's exactly what happened today. I scoped out their ig page, caught the vibe & I was on the 210 East within the same hour ^_^
I LOVE DONUTS! But the caveat is that I am not such a big fan of overly sweet. So donuts are tricky for me. If you cover it in glaze, it doesn't distract me from the rest.
That being said, I show up an hour before closing time. Minimal selection, but still some good selections that I had eye-balled and drooled over on-line. A la me...I bought every donut I had interest in to sample. I do this at all new places. So, here's a list of what I tasted & my review on each!
Donut holes: free, appreciated & pretty yummy ^_^
Glazed Cronut: too sweet for me :-( A pass on this one and I wished they had un-glazed. Maybe they did and this late bird didn't catch the premium preferred unglazed "worm".
Raspberry Shortcake Cronut: Holy b*lls. Surprisingly amazing and I will have it again! I'm not a big fan of Raspberries (too tart) and this Cronut by glance looked overly-indulgent. However, it was totally pleasant, delicious, and the tart countered the sweetness and the filling was so tasty! It definitely wasn't "light" per se but in the donut realm, somewhat on the "light" tasting side. A total winner!!
Strawberry Shortcake Cronut: it was going to be hard to engage with this after the Raspberry. However, once more, surprisingly amazing-er! An even bigger winner for similar reasons to the Raspberry! Less tart but it worked. I will return for this one too tee-hee :)
Banana & Nutella Cronut: This piece is the one to write the folks back home about. It wasn't frosted, but rather it was covered in cinnamon/sugar. Auto & insta better that the other cronuts, right off the bat. The Nutella was perfectly proportioned and the fresh banana slices made this one my all-time favorite out of the box! Win win win. Try this one please!
Lemon Poppy: it was quite mundane when surrounded by the others. Not very exciting & the Lemon flavor was down-played.
Tiger Tail: it was fluffy & tasty but there are better. Down the street actually. Shop to remain nameless :-D
Maple old-fashioned buttermilk bar- I wish the dough was cooked more. It was a bit too doughy for me.
Bringing it back to an overall review- if you're looking for exciting cronuts, yes please go here! The cronuts are their speciality and the variety is good and they are really tasty not just glaze-coated. Plenty of parking. Plenty of neighboring businesses for lunch coffee and other necessities. The shop itself is clean, organized and they have many drink options. Milks, OJs, canned/bottled coffee drinks, water, etc. They also serve donut shop coffee, which if you know me my coffee standards are off the charts so this coffee didn't do it for me. The associate was super sweet & welcoming. She offered help, was totally attentive & gave advice and was really kind. I appreciated how down your earth she was and how she vibed off of my excitement while I was there.
I will definitely be bringing friends & family back here for cronuts only ^_^
