Google
A fun spot with a great selection of meat, cheeses, and tons of italian imports (including GF pasta). Check out the board above the counter for current selection and prices. The workers there weren't very friendly or helpful.

Sarah Brooks

Google
Claudio's has the BEST pesto that I've ever had. It's imported & amazing. I grab some bread from Sarcones & I have my lunch for the week. The people who work here are always very nice. The quality of food is great & the place always looks clean. 10/10.

Google
Sign reads “shoplifting can get you killed.” Oh please, I’ve never shoplifted in my life and these “tough guys” are always all bark no bite, but it’s just obnoxious. Dude glowers at you the whole time. I took my business two doors down.

John Ventre

Google
Longtime regular. Can't believe I have never added a review. Really good selection of cold cuts, charcuterie, cheeses, pastas, olive oils, etc. While a few doors down is a more refined cheese shop that has gone more Hollywood, Claudio's remains true blue South Philly.

Google
A wonderful selection of true Italian foods, friendly staff happy to speak in Italian. Their sun-dried tomatoes are the best I've ever had, and I've had them all over the world!

Chalon Lau

Google
A wide variety of Italian specialties, such as olive oil, pasta, cheese... You can find some excellent Italian specialties here.

Christian Molnar

Google
One of the best cheese shops in Philadelphia. The fresh ricotta is the best in the city! Great, knowledgeable staff that will help you put together the perfect cheese tray.

Bob Dunham

Google
Couldn't have asked for a pre- holiday shopping experience. Good use of social distancing and a minimal crowd to begin with. You may not still get the free samples, but it is definitely worth the wait!

Yelp
Fresh pesto (get 1 lb for pasta with leftover) Fresh sun-dried tomatoes Claudio's pesto Dried pitted olives (black and kalamata) Caciocavallo cheese Next time: try more pasta varieties + grilled mushrooms + mozzarella + cheese varieties

Yelp
I stopped in at Claudio's with some friends today when we were exploring the Italian Market. It's a little bit larger than some of the shops in the neighborhood: with tons of cheeses, cured meats, olive oils, pastas, and lots of other pantry items and Italian foods! It's a charming shop, with lots of great products. A great place to stop by if you're planning on cooking some Italian for dinner.
google avatar

Vinny C.

Yelp
Great selection and great gluten free selection. Ppl complain about the service, just stop lol, this is south Philly they are busy and stop being so sensitive!

Yelp
My go to Italian specialty store on ninth Street doesn't have the name recognition of the other store that begins with a D but has way more stuff and way better ! Claudios is the real deal !
google avatar

Yelp
INCREDIBLE CHEESE SELECTION ! This is what we would call a delicatessen back home in Australia. My wife and I were greeted by an enormous selection of artisan cheeses plus many local and international products begging us to try them. We had a great time exploring all the stores on this street while staying in Philadelphia for a few days on a work related trip not that long back ! NOTE - Of course with over 22 million views of my Yelp reviews and pics in 2022 I can tell you what is great !

Yelp
I come here pretty much weekly to impulse purchase San Marzano canned tomatoes and a fancy pasta for my Sunday gravy. This is a Pasta EMPORIUM! The shelves are lined with every type imaginable, from your classic spaghetti to gorgeous nests of tagliatelle all'uva to the fattest rigatoni you've ever seen. The packaging is just begging to be gifted (in fact, I came here yesterday to complete my Christmas shopping for the whole family). Claudio's also has a nice selection of olive oils, vinegars, jams, and tomato pastes, ranging from the inexpensive to the pricy. The place is small, though, which can become very difficult to navigate (especially in the holiday crowds). I've personally never bought anything fresh from the glass case, but hoards of traveling families convene in this area and shout out their orders, so it can get chaotic when trying to check out as a single, local customer. Is this how native Romans feel when tourists flock to their favorite gelato place? Marinated octopus! Pepperoncini! Mozzarella! A wheel of parmesan! The list goes on. It's an antipasto lover's wet dream. The staff is helpful but also a tad intimidating. Sometimes I think they're judging me for only buying pasta. Yesterday, the guy said, "Really? That's everything?" I think he meant it to mean, "You sure you don't want these gorgeous roasted red peppers?" Either way, it's the Italian Market. Get in, get your shit, get going. Maybe more places should be like this.

Yelp
The service is lackluster but the products (just about every cheese you can imagine, olives , pasta, olive oils etc .... ) are amazing.

John T.

Yelp
Bad service. They don't like questions and they're rude to customers that spend a lot of money there. I felt singled out till I read some of their bad reviews. They did the same thing to me that they're accused of doing to other people. They gave me the wrong cheese, twice. they size you up and if they think you're ignorant they give you something other than what you asked for. John T.

Yelp
We are originally from the Philadelphia area and savored cuisines from many restaurants from Phila to Chester County to the shore, etc. We enjoyed the Garces, Vetri and Starr restaurants, and lunches at Dante & Luigi's or Ralph's. We would visit every cheesesteak/ pork sandwich with broccoli rabe shop from Montesano's in Chester Springs to Tony Luke's to The White House in Atlantic City. We visited Reading Terminal Market and the Italian Market sourcing ingredients from Claudio's, Esposito's and Talluto's. And Isgro. Fifteen years ago, cold temperatures, snow, sleet and rain chased us out of Philadelphia. We looked at Florida and Texas but opted for Tucson in the Sonoran Desert where we have perfect weather all year. BUT we miss the Philadelphia cuisines which we so loved. We also missed our Philadelphia sports teams that would excite us and disappoint us. The sports we could watch on our local Comcast and we could mail order cheeses, olives, olive oils, and all the other Italian ingredients that were not available in Tucson. And our daughter in south Philly remains a local connection. Now in Tucson, and for years, we have been ordering from Claudio's and receiving a "Philly Care Package" via UPS. Although they use planet unfriendly Styrofoam peanuts for packing material, we were always thrilled at receiving a 'gift' from Philadelphia. Earlier this month, as in years past, we were on the Claudio's website perusing items to order. We could smell and taste each item and we recalled the ambience of the Claudio's store and Sal offering us tastes of special cheeses. Our order for Locatelli Romano, Prima Donna, Cici beans, Parmagiano Reggiano, Provolone, etc., totaled $102. With shipping our order was $159. The weights we requested were not even close. These guys are professional deli guys. They know how to cut cheese and weigh items. They do it every day all day long. Our total charges went from $159 to $195. We were disappointed that were charged $42 for 12lb UPS shipping Philadelphia to Tucson when the actual rate is $22. As all Philadelphia sports fans have come to know disappointment, this time, Claudio's surely disappointed us. We truly felt as if Claudio's, like Jaylen Hurts, took a safety in the end zone, did not care much and nonchalantly lost the game.

Yelp
When visiting Little Italy in Philadelphia you definitely want to make a stop here if you are looking for Italian delicacies. They had various types of pasta types and flavors. You could also pick up any Italian cold cut you may want along with any other items you may need or want. They have so many choices, it can be overwhelming.

Michael T.

Yelp
I like the products here. But artived at 1:40 on sunday to grab olive oil and they locked the doors and wouldn't let me in. If they want the staff to leave at 2 pm sharp, they should adjust the published hours to 1:30 close instead of 2pm close.

Giovanni V.

Yelp
My family loves Claudio's. We have been going there for over 50 years. Excellent product and service.
google avatar

Yelp
Best Italian deli available in our area. They have it all from Cheese to fresh pasta and amazing bread

Retna S.

Yelp
Service is always great. Very helpful and friendly staff. You need to try pimientos stuffed with goat cheese. So addictive. Also I recommend lemon ricotta cheese, which in my opinion is more like a dessert.

Ryan P.

Yelp
Claudio's is the BEST Italian market in Philly. Generous samples to make sure you get what you like, friendly people... real old school. They have top quality products from Italy and the shop is awesome. Love this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Talk about little Italy. Claudio's is just like being in Italy. It has been a South Philly staple in the Italian market for around 60 plus years. They've got meats and cheeses you've never even heard of. I highly recommend going in and getting a quarter pound of a couple of meats and cheeses for a sampling board. They also have Italian imported oil and basalmic vinegar. I purchased some truffle polenta as well. The service is wonderful. They will help you find anything you need to cook a gourmet Italian meal.

Fascist F.

Yelp
Top-quality cheese & salumeria. Service leaves a lot to be desired. I ordered from the website. They offer food in whole-pound amounts, 1 lb being the smallest. I ordered several 1-lb chunks, but the packaging person cuts off however much he wants. Based on my order, you could get anywhere between 1.1 lb and 1.7 lbs. Also be aware that their site has sub-minimal functionality. It sends out meaningless emails, but the shop people don't send anything. No "Thanks for your order", no estimated ship date, not even a confirmation of fulfillment.

Michael C.

Yelp
They have a great selection of cheeses. Many other things but I go for the cheese. They have a great selection of olives also. Great olive oils too. Sal the owner is a great guy to deal with.
google avatar

Betsy Z.

Yelp
They have the best gluten free pasta around! Cheese and charcuterie items are terrific.

Yelp
I so love their Baccala. I make the trip just for that, and some olives of course. Great Store!!
google avatar

Robert D.

Yelp
I place my order from N.Y. for the olive oil, sauce, etc. My only issue is I place a order once per year. Every time I go to log in Claudio's do'nt remember their good-bah!!! Me che cazzo??? The reset gives you a new id and p/w. but never works for me. Other then the hassle via website, they would get 5 stars!

love n.

Yelp
This place is great! I've been coming here for 25 years and still smile when I walk in. The sights and smells, yum. Great cheese selection. They also have a lot of imported pastas, oils, canned tomatoes, etc,,. Just an all around solid Italian specialty food shop!
google avatar

Shereen C.

Yelp
Claudio's is great. They have good cheese that you can sample, at reasonable prices. I can get a tasty aged asiago here. Great service too. Staff is helpful and friendly. If I wanted to buy cheese in the area, this is where I'd go.

Brenda H.

Yelp
Whill the food is great, the help in the shop is the absolute worst ever. So rude and ignorant. I will never be returning here again. There are four shops within the block where the food is just as good as Claudio's. There is absolutely no reason to shop here
google avatar

Sari Marissa G.

Yelp
Fantastic little specialty shop in the middle of the Italian Market...right where it should be. Their meats and cheeses are of the freshest quality. Very lean meats. My guests were all extremely impressed with what I put my on my charcuterie board I served last night for Halloween. They all commented before I even said anything! The guys here are super friendly and incredibly knowledgeable which to a girl who doesn't eat any of these items, that was very helpful!! You can tell they enjoy what they do! Claudio's offers very generous sized samples too. That makes shopping here a blast for some! Prices here are lower than what I'm normally used to paying also! I'll definitely be back soon for all of the upcoming holidays!! I believe Claudio's, which was a cinch to park in front of on a weekday afternoon is going to be our new go-to for these items. I personally can't wait to try some of their fresh bread soon! Shopping here was enjoyable, all around.
google avatar

Allie A.

Yelp
Oh dear, this place is only a few minutes from work by foot. Don't come in here if you don't like Italian delicacies because you'll run screaming out the door. This place is like a mecca for all things Italian - the fresh pasta, olive oil, cheese, sausages and other meats. If the only prosciutto you've ever tried came from a plastic package that you had to use a knife to open, then you need to come here and get you some parma prosciutto. Tears of love will cascade down your face. Expensive, but so worth it because, you know, QUALITY.

Yelp
If I knew...I was visiting the area and walked in to get some non perishable items I can not find in my State , this place looked like it would have everything . If I had yelped first I would have had a better plan. lol. Their aged Gouda was delicious. The fresh mozz light and tasty. I did score some jimmy Tartufi Black Drop Balsamic glaze w/truffle, Caroli Oils , Sapori d"Amare peperoncino and Tortoroglio to name a few of the treasures I purchased. Honestly , this review doesn't do Claudio justice. The next time I visit Philly it will revolve around stopping at Claudio's with a cooler . It's refreshing to find the real deal. "Say it with Claudio!" because they SHIP!

Yelp
Standing in front of one of Claudio's vast shelves of dried pasta, Moms and I were engaged in a lively debate about bucatini and what it looks like. A friend of hers heard she was coming to Philadelphia's Italian Market and requested Moms bring bucatini back, claiming you "just can't find it anywhere in DC" (and despite the fact that we live in the age of the Internet and you could overnight bucatini straight to your door, but I digress). I've never cooked the noodle, but I've watched enough cooking shows to know exactly what bucatini is. Moms was challenging my authority when we heard a soft and mellifluous, "Eh, scusi..." Turning around, we came eye-to-hat with a wizened old paisano, nattily dressed in a cropped trench and tweed pageboy. *swoon* He stooped to a lower shelf, pulled out a celo bag of noodles, and handed them to Moms. "Bucatini," he said slowly, his hand waving over the package label. In beautiful but broken English, he managed to explain the difference between several of the long pastas we'd been examining. We nodded, completely entranced by his authenticity, and managed a, "Grazie, signore..." as he shuffled off, bidding us good day. After he had disappeared through the front door, we looked down at the package he'd placed in Moms' hands: unbroken ziti. *wommmp womp* Claudio's is the type of place where you'll find Italian-Americans shopping for the groceries they cooked with back in Italy. There's an enormous (practically incomprehensible) number of dried pastas in all shapes and sizes. Vast arrays of olive oils, tapenades, pestos, and antipasti. Meats and seafoods from octopus to salumi. Gorgeous cheeses and a rainbow of olives. We tracked down the bucatini ourselves. I was right about what it looked like. MacRae: 1, Moms: 0.

Yelp
There are two people in Philadelphia: DiBruno's fans and Claudio's fans. Count me among the latter. Claudio's selection is second-to-none for Italian specialty foods in the United States. Having grown up just outside NYC and briefly living in San Francisco off Columbus Street, this is simply the best. Positive notes; - Samples cut *for* you, not haphazardly strewn about in common cups around the store. (Ahem) - It smells like provolone and olives when you walk in. Really. - They OWN a mozzarella baller and make it on site. It's the best mozzarella you'll ever have. - The staff is incredibly knowledgable and will happily help you decide between items or make recommendations. - The food. Oh God, the food. So good. Negatives: - Unless you are a masochist and/ or enjoy waiting on line for hours; avoid this place like the plague the day before major holidays... Thanksgiving, Easter and most especially Christmas eve. Things to try: - The Bresaola (Bernina Uruguayan Bresaola properly). Just amazing. I could eat it unaccompanied and from my palm all day and be blissfully contented. - A 1/2 lb of asiago and a link or two of their pepperoni. Slice them up, makes a really easy appetizer literally everyone loves. - Their online ordering is fantastic. I sent stuff an order to my aunt and uncle in San Francisco and it arrived in perfect condition. - The go to cheese nearly everyone loves is Prima Donna. - If you like wine, give their Testun Occelli al Barolo a shot. It's a free range cow/ goat cheese casked in expressed grapes from Barolo wine. It's to die for. - Their lemon ricotta cake is decadent and other-worldly on a hot summer afternoon in the Italian market. And the staff is only too happy to give you a sample. :)

Yelp
We started our visit in thr Italian market with this shop. Everyone seemed friendly. I didn't want to hold my purchase while I walked around the market so we decided to come back on our way out. When we returned I grabbed my stuff and waited at the counter for help. There were people in line she we waited out turn. As the line thinned out so did the help I waited at the counter watching the help walk by and I said to my husband if someone does help me soon I'm out which is what happened, we put down the products and went next store and purchased there. Not worth your time. Their are better places to go in the area.
google avatar

Bill M.

Yelp
Another five stars for homemade fresh mozzarella and ricotta! When I'm in need of a REAL classic cheese market around the Italian Market, Claudio's is always my prime destination. From plenty of fine cheeses and artisan meats; to an impressive selection of pastas, olives, and oils, its pretty easy to find yourself getting lost in the crowd that comes with a busy market day for good reason. Which is why its best to come on an off day where you have a better chance of picking the knowledgeable staffs brain for suggestions. And while the varieties of fresh mozzarella and ricotta (especially Vinny's baked suggestion) are indeed amazing; the best cheese you can pick up here is by far any version of the aged provolone's that they offer!
google avatar

Jules C.

Yelp
I really love Claudio's cheese selections and the gentlemen behind the counter are typically very insightful and helpful with rounding out selections and tips for what to serve with or augment and make a fantastic cheese/charcuterie board. The olive bar and imported pesto sold by weight are also must haves as they are unrivaled on 9th St. The baked lemon ricotta with Dalmatia fig spread is a party in itself!
google avatar

Bob S.

Yelp
Probably the worst service I have seen anywhere in Philadelphia. I was there today, with a friend, with ONE other customer in the shop. There were four people behind the counter. We stood there for 10 minutes trying to get someone's attention, Nada, Zip. Nothing. I'll take my business elsewhere. I agree with all the other people here who said they were either treated rudely or ignored. Why, Claudio's, why?
google avatar

Gus S.

Yelp
This place is your trusted source for imported Italian cheese, meats and other goods. The prices are more affordable that DiBruno Brothers, and there are better options here. I always get the extra sharp provolone because no one has better. The prosciutto di parma is the best I've had. The employees are great. They often give you samples of what you order. The olive bar is divine. This place always puts me in a good mood.
google avatar

Linda M.

Yelp
This was my first time in this store today. I felt like I was transported back to my grandfather's store in Italy many years ago. They have an awesome selection of everything from pasta, olives, oils, cookies, cold cuts, cheeses, you name it. I was a little surprised no Italian bread. My fiance and I bought a bunch of delicacies. The guys behind the counter were very friendly especially Mario who I told I would write a good review (haha..taking a few points off for not speaking Italian! Lol). I will definitely come back for the mozzarella!!! I forgot to buy some dammit. Ciao.per ora.
google avatar

Rob H.

Yelp
In Italy, people eat mozzarella the way they eat bread: only the day it is made. Tasting fresh mozzarella for the first time after years of eating what you thought was mozzarella is mind blowing. Nothing compares to the freshness of Claudio's fresh mozzarella - the shop sells about 1200 pounds a week!!! Claudio can be seen through the glass doors behind the counter of his cheese shop working an industrial-size mozzarella-making machine. What's more, he also makes fresh ricotta and (textured like mozzarella on the outside, but creamy in the middle). This is a charming shop, with friendly staff and an over abundance of quality Italian products. And they have a website to deliver worldwide! EVEN KINDER CHOCOLATE!!!
google avatar

Evelyn G.

Yelp
Fantastico! The best place for cheese and imported Italian and spaniard products. Great selection of olive oils
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
This place is a must stop if you are in Philadelphia. The variety of meats and cheeses is incredible along with all the different types of olive oil's and other Italian Staples. A few things that are a must try in my opinion are the rosemary ham, the imported sweet capicola and the sharp imported slicing provolone. You get those three things and a loaf of bread you will be in heaven.
google avatar

Rob Z.

Yelp
So my dirty New York City secret is that though I love living here and one of my favorite things is the sheer bulk of authentic (for lack of a better term) restaurants and markets that are available - very few of them are actually the best I have ever had at whatever it is they do. I was reminded of this again when I went to a highly regarded local Italian specialty market today. Not as good as Claudio's from selection to price to quality (nor have I found an Italian place anywhere in Brooklyn or Manhattan that is). Sometimes I miss Philadelphia. We do have it all over you on pizza though. Don't get too big of a head Philly.
google avatar

Robert P.

Yelp
Simply the best food shop in Philadelphia. Oils and olives of all sorts. Pastas and amazing vinegars. The Italian Salumi is truly spectacular. It was the first real cheese shop in the city. You can also get bread on the weekends. It's been here forever. The counter guys are a riot! They give lots of samples. It's still owned by Sal one of Old Man Claudio's sons. The old man used to give me such a hard time as a kid but I loved him. Favorite stop to bring out of town guests. Not touristy at all.
google avatar

Jacqueline A.

Yelp
My favorite food store! I buy their pasta, canned tomato products, olive oil, crackers, and of course, cheeses and meats. I stopped making my own pesto; theirs is that good. Anything you want for an antipasto can be gotten there. The service is great. Even when the store is crowded, the line moves quickly and fairly. I know that there is another cheese shop a few doors away but I always go to Claudios. As I tell them- the men who sell the cheese, like the cheese itself, should be well-aged.
google avatar

Shane M.

Yelp
Dear Claudio, At first I only strayed from DiBruno's for your marinated string cheese, those savory little morsels beckoning from beyond the punching bag-sized cheeses hanging in the front of the store. But eventually I realized you were less crowded than your more famous neighbor, and your lines move faster too. Soon you had me sold on your amazing gouda, fabulous olive oils and that weird baked cheese (seriously, what is that?). But you couldn't stop there, oh no--you had to seduce my girlfriend too, with your silky triple-cream brie. It's come between us... literally. On the cheeseboard. On the sofa. Between us. All the time. If you can't respect my relationship, at least have mercy on my thighs. Summer is fast approaching, and if your friendly counter guys keep serving us, I'll have to wear a muumuu on the beach. Love, your neighbor
google avatar

Andrew C.

Yelp
There is no better place in Philly for Italian specialties and incredibly warm and friendly service. Buon Italia at the Chelsea Market in NYC might have more inventory, but they can't compare on service. The guys behind the counter at Claudio's will take their time with you and make sure you get plenty of samples, advice, tips and recommendations. Of course the cheeses will make you close your eyes and wish this moment would never end, but don't pass on the imported marinated vegetables, pesto, sun dried tomatoes etc. Everything from the case is just on another level from any other antipasto or deli case you have ever tasted. The fresh Ricotta is the last thing you want to taste before you leave this earth. Or maybe their proscuitto... or maybe...
google avatar

Emily A.

Yelp
Oh my God! This is one of my FAVORITE places on earth! I know that when it comes to Philadelphia cheese shops- Di Bruno Bros always gets the recognition. But, man o man- I am telling you that nothing compares to the quality of food and the service that you get at Claudio's. Friendly faces and thick South Philly accents greet you the moment you walk up to the counter. If they pick up on the fact that you are a foodie- prepare to be there awhile, cause the guys will feed you samples of things like a 25 year old balsamic vinegar that will knock your socks off- and homemade smoked mozzarella to die for! The only bad thing about this place is that I can never get out of there for less than $100! So worth it, so worth it!!!!!!! Toll Free 866-313-FOOD . Tel: . Fax:(215) 627-2320

Yelp
I decided to stop by this place on an afternoon exploration of the Italian Market. I noticed the cheese counter and that was enough of a draw to get me in. Once inside, I was pleased with the size of the store. It was pretty big, nicely stocked, well-organized, and the customer service is amazingly good. Everybody was super friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and enthusiastic about their products. Aside from the large selection of packaged items offered, you can also sample their cheeses and meats, a lot of which is homemade. The homemade spicy salami was really delicious, and fyi, they're generous with their samples. Go hungry so you can fully sample their array of stock. In the end, I left with two types of salami and a great balsamic vinegar for under 20 bucks. These guys won't push stuff on you, will treat you like family, and in the end, the experience here will leave you wanting to come back. I highly recommend it.

Yelp
Claudio's is excellent. Their fresh mozzarella is top notch. Their staff knows everything and is very generous with cheese for you to test. They have a huge variety of cheese, olive oil, olives, italian meats and other italian speciailties. I also think they are a little less busy than DiBruno's with the same selection. I recommend the baked bufalo ricotta cake they import. it's a delicious blend of ricotta and lemon that is truly amazing.

Yelp
My new go to for Sunday shopping! An amazing assortment of pastas with all types of flavors (truffle pasta too ). Every time I stop in everyone is super friendly and you get a neighborhood feel. My favorites are their freshly cut prosciutto and cheese assortments. My most recent purchase was the parmigiana and mozzarella, prosciutto, and balsamic glaze. The best part is that it is located right next to produce stands where I could buy an entire basil plant for $1.
google avatar

Yelp
.Are you ready for some tasty antipasti? Serving specialty gourmet products, imported olive oils, extra aged balsamic vinegars, specialty imported pasta products, imported cheeses, meats, or any other Mediterranean delicacy... They have it all! Lured by the staff there to try and taste all different variety of goodies. They were quite friendly staff and INSIST I indulged in lots of yummy delicacy. I am a big antipasti fan and love it where there a variety of fresh and good quality items are sold. This is one place that tempt when I think about it. Picked up few things on the travel and it was quite tasty for breakfast meal and brunch. Next time if you come around Philly and plan to visit to Philadelphia's historic Italian Market- don't forget to stop by! Happy Tasting...

Yelp
Best cold cuts ever, but this year I called to have cold cus put on a platter for the Tuesday before thanksgiving as I have done for many years. I was informed by the man answering the phone that they were too busy to do that. I questioned him as to why it was harder to slice onto a tray rather than onto paper. He repeated was a very busy week. In years past I was told it was actually just as easy to put on trays. Very disappointed in customer service and obviously will have to go elsewhere.
