Clay's Restaurant

Our men’s group meets for lunch monthly at Clays. My choice for lunch was the grilled chicken salad - fresh, delicious, and decently priced. For years our group met at a nearby restaurant, but changed recently due to the advantages of Clays - fresh menu selections, bottled beer options, larger conversation tables, spontaneous service, less intrusive noise. There are significant seating areas for families, business, and parties combined with an extensive exterior lawn and safe play area for kids of all ages. This was always our go to place when our kids were younger, still is. Highly recommended!

Received a coupon to go try Clays Restaurant, we arrived and all staff was extremely nice, restaurant was very clean inside and outside and food was amazing! i got Chicken tender platter, tenders were super fresh, hot and crispy. My boyfriend got the catfish platter and he says it was the better catfish he’s had! Definitely going back to try more things.

Let me start by saying that I want to like Clay’s! I really do! I love the vibe and the smell the moment you walk through the doors. My kids absolutely love playing outside and it’s a great place to have an event. So what’s my issue?? The food. 🥲 It’s always hit or miss. It’s just ok. Recently I had the queso burger, which was ok, but I didn’t feel good after eating it. Then today I got the baked potato with chicken, which I did enjoy, but then I ordered the peach & blueberry cobbler…What a way to end on a bad note. I wouldn’t even consider it edible. Thankfully, it was topped with ice cream or I would have sent it back! That led me to write this review because I see SO much potential. It’s crazy how busy it was Saturday and then completely dead today. I can’t help but think it may be because of the food. We will most likely come back because I do really love the outside area! I just won’t be ordering the cobbler!! 😬 Side note: My dad’s chicken fried chicken was good and the green beans were better this time. My boys loved their fried catfish. I thought it was ok. Kinda on the thin side. Clay’s prices are also great and the service is always pretty good!

If you have kids, it can't get any better. Fun outdoor seating with a huge play area, old-timey coin operated rides, a giant sandbox and lots of safe areas to run and play - all with an old west decor. The food is excellent, burgers, seafood, chicken dishes and kid-friendly meals. Everything is ground floor, parking is free and plentiful.

Nice place to take your young ones. Lots of activities and other kids to play with. The food is mostly fried but they do give you the option for baked or boiled. Lots of seafood options but not impressed especially with the very high prices. If you’re willing to spend a lot of money to take your kids for some really enjoyable activities high priced mediocre food then this is your place. One thing to note, watch your kids because there are unsafe areas where your kids might get hurt. I did express to our server one particular area where the boards on the wooden ramp were missing causing a huge hazard for children. They fixed it the next day.

Today I came out for dinner with family for my daughter's birthday. I ordered the chicken fried chicken and for one the roll was cold and hard. The chicken was somewhat warm, the corn and potatoes were almost cold. The onion rings were greasy and had no taste. I am very disappointed but didn't want to mess it up for my daughter on her day.

Been passing this place for 20 plus years because I'm always on the go but decided to stop today and got the grilled catfish with red beans and fries . Food was good and service was speedy and respectful 👍🏿 definitely gonna try again

10:10 recommend. Foods great and nice portions. Lid didn’t eat her kids meal but she loved the soup of the day enchilada tortilla soup or something. I got the hickory but Shannon 100/100 they forgot some stuff but I mean I’ll be back for sure and they got it right out Coleslaw is coleslaw it’s the creamy kind. 8/10 missing celery hut that my literal personal preference Country gravy with chicken fried chicken was good per my girl. 6/10. Cooked to perfection for sure but pretty bland. So just add some seasoning and hot sauce. Kiddo said grilled cheese was great I finished it can confirm. 20/10 The green beans are like boiled sugar snaps 100/10 Red beans &’ Rice 8/10 very good just not traditional Cajun red beans but delicious comfort food cooked kidneys and rice was good Soup was 10/10 Classic Texas toast and kraft cheese so. Tots were tots. Pretty good their bbq sauce is delicious and Smokey. Hailey the manager was amazing. Katy was great. I’ll be back for sure.

What a cool little place. The manager (owner?) was so accommodating. We had a little ladies get together and we were about to reserve the entire back room for our visit. The cheese burger was really good, exactly as ordered. The sweet potato fries were waffle cut and amazing. Our server was very friendly and went out of her way to make sure everything was to our liking. This is a great little place to pop in and I highly recommend you give them a try.

I absoutley love Clay's, and I frequent this place often. This place is very casual and kid friendly. This is the kind of place you go just to enjoy a nice evening out with the family, get some good food and laugh. When I go I always go for the crawfish and margaritas but I always also try something new. My son always gets the burger kids meal. I love the fact that we can go dine and my son can hang out in the courtyard area where there are typically other kids. Because it's so affordable I like to go on random weekday nights just to get out the house and spend some quality time.

20 out of 10!! We drove 30 min cause going out to eat just isn't fun unless my babies have somewhere to play. The kids areas are amazing what I wasn't expecting was the best fish & chips I've ever had! There is something special about this place and I'm ALL about it!!

3.5 stars in my review. The vibe is legit! Like ice house meets your neighbors home made patio extension to their home type of vibe. Customer service is very friendly and attentive. The food was made to order at the counter service but was very luke warm so was a bit of a turn off. But their margarita on the rocks was legit. Would come back and try something else but for sure the margarita.

Come here every Wednesday and it's always delicious! The crawfish is huge and only $4.99 a pound! We've also tried the cheeseburgers, loaded baked potatoes (pulled pork is better than brisket in our opinion), quesadillas, and potato skins. All really good and reasonably priced! The servers here are so nice and super helpful with whatever you need- especially Jo & Princess! Every time they see us they always greet us with a smile and help make our visit more pleasant. We always sit on the giant patio- so many tables & fans- to let the kids play on the large green space while we chat. TLDR- great family friendly place/ reasonably priced/ awesome servers

This is an interesting place and you might miss it if you're not from that part of town. I don't come up there much anymore but way back in another lifetime before Bear Creek had much development, I used to drive by here night and never knew what it was but today our hike group was meeting there after our hike so going up on Clay road was bringing back some old memories. We got there right when they opened so I guess that's why a lot of the people from our group for which we had a reservation didn't make it so our "group" which was supposed to be much larger was just a handful of people and apparently they charge a service fee for large groups which I can understand. To be honest, I was annoyed at first because there was like only 6 of us and it's counter service but they won me over with the actual level of service we received. They must have checked on us to see if we needed anything about 5 times and refilled drinks left and right and just let us be after we were done eating and were basically just taking up space. I know some other places in town start to shoo you away while you still have some fries left on your plate. Maybe it was the perfect weather, maybe it was the good company, but I really liked this place. The food was good. I had a grilled chicken salad and the grilled pineapple they put on top really added an extra bit of detail. Other people seemed to like their food too. There is also plenty of parking. This really is a huge place too with an area for the kids to play in and several private areas for I guess private party type things (weddings or whatever).

Sorry Clay's your Famous Country Fried Steak is a total disappointment. It's so tough you can't chew it. We ordered the lemon pepper catfish as well, there was no flavor. The menu said it came with red beans and rice but it only came with rice. Don't put stuff on DoorDash if it's not right. So thoroughly disappointed. You used to be really good.

went here recently for dinner and the place was awesome. the cashier, jessie, was so kind and helpful for our order and made the perfect first impression of this restaurant. will 100% attend again!

Lovely staff at Clays tonight (especially Jo) made our visit very enjoyable. Everyone was cheery and available for everything we needed. Crawfish were big and tasty, Fish tacos went down well. Lovely night for sitting out on the patio with many other patrons.

I LOVE Clay's! I've been dining here for years because it was by my old house, but even living on the other side of Houston this place is worth the trip! Parking: There is a MASSIVE parking lot - It's huge! I've never seen it full and you'll always have a parking spot Accessibility: There are wheelchair ramps available Seating: This place is huge and has tons of seating! I usually opt for a table on the uncovered patio if the weather is nice, but there is also covered patio areas and indoor seating. Food: The food is solid. My go to is the Clay burger. It's tasty and all the ingredients have flavor - plus the patty is huge. I also personally like to get their frozen margaritas. Service: The service is pretty good. They seem to hire a lot of younger people (teens maybe?) as servers, which I love for the work experience aspect but sometimes it does leave service a bit lacking. Overall though, if you don't want to wait you can go to the counter and get whatever you need. Drinks are self service. This place is pretty quirky and I love the personality that brings. This is what really bumps the rating up for me. There's a big fenced in yard with an old western town scene, sometimes there's ducks and other wild life hanging out, there are a ton of little rides for kids and a sand pit to play in. They are also available to book for events.

The food and atmosphere was great. The service left a lot to be desired. The girls taking my order weren't very friendly or helpful and a few things were forgotten on my order. I ordered a chicken sandwich which was fantastic but I was served a side of fries that was smaller than my son's fries in his kids meal. However everything was very clean and tasty!

An establishment that is one of those place everyone goes to. Big space, big menu big food! It is kind of like a place that has been added on to and added on to over time.. it is a bit wonky but cohesive at the same time. It has a very down home rustic feel. The menu is on the wall when you walk in, take a look, then walk up and order. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich... however many ordered the chicken fried steak. The pulled pork was good not too much not too little. The flavor was good but nothing great. The fries were good and crispy. Those that got the chicken fried steak got one heck of a big plate! Lots of food. The chicken fried steak was huge! We had about 14 people here and we got in and out with zero issues. It was well handled with the order then sit down style so this is a good spot for big groups. When I was here the outside area had just been finished and it was nice looking. Worth a stop... from what I saw... next time I'll order the chicken fried steak!

We haven't been here in a while since we moved farther west but we remembered where to go and the service was friendly and fast. their menu is still extensive and the ambiance takes you out to a ranch or dude ranch with great food. We had a cheeseburger and chicken tenders and their fries were so if the hottest temperature i have had in a while. they food was fresh and hot too but the fries were great being hot!

There was NO signage stating this place was not pet friendly. Even with their outdoor patio/seating. So after deciding to bring my family here including our family dog. I was extremely disappointed that after waiting 20 minutes in line just to get my order in... I was finally told, once another order taker came to help the line and take more orders , that I wasn't able to eat with my leashed animal. Pretty upset. 20 minutes, walked by several employees, and even the original cashier could've said something rather than wasting my time.

We've been here many times and it was good but we Went last Saturday to get crawfish and watch the Astros game. We ordered food and started walking to a table and asked a server if we could get the Astros game on and she said sure. We said down and waited. Server came to table to confirm the order and we asked again about the game, she said she would check. Finally manager came over and said they don't get the Astros game (even though we've watched it there before). We asked them to cancel our order so we could go watch the game somewhere else. It's a shame to have all those TV's and not be able to watch our local team. Hopefully they correct this. I'd suggest you call them before going if your intention is to be able to watch the game while eating.

Great restaurant! Very kid friendly with sandbox and play area. Food was also very good! Great service from Hamnah as well!

Jo is my FAVORITE person to see here! Everytime we come she is so friendly and helpful! Great recommendations and food is always so consistent! Great place for family and friends to hang out and enjoy a meal.

First time here due to referral from my family, crawfish was so bombbbb, margaritas were yummy especially the one Jo my server made me, she was very attentive took care of whatever we needed.

First and last time I tried this place. They had a crawfish special and I guess they were probably trying to get rid of old crawfish or something because the crawfish were so salty and the meat were mushy. Crawfish was less than the amount I bought, yes I went home and weight it with my kitchen scale. Worst crawfish I've ever had. Waited 40min for them. Waste of money and time. Customer service was lacking as well.

My wife and I ate at Clay's Restaurant 17717 Clay Road yesterday because we had an event to attend in the area and were told it was a good place to eat. The food was delicious, staff very friendly and helpful decent atmosphere and very clean. Wife had ice water and I had iced tea. A little pricey, my wife had fish and chips, I had chicken fried chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and fried okra. Cost with tip and taxes $46.66. Tip wasn't optional which I do not like. Good place to go if you don't mind over paying a little bit

Dinner was delicious and Jo was a very attentive server. Made sure everything came out right and that we were taken care of all evening. Always love coming here for the food and great service!

These Crawfish could be good if they clean them well and let them soak. There was alot of grass/debris in the Crawfish, which is a sign of them not being cleaned properly and they looked dirty. I can tell that the actual boil is good but they just boil them and don't let the seasoning soak in. They give them to you dry af. So they weren't Juicy. The heads were dry as the Sahara. They charge for butter, and all condiments. I had to go and get some seasoning from them just to eat them.

Last night was the first time my family and I went to Clays and it was some of the best food I've eaten I a very long time I ate the grilled catfish with the Cajun seasoning and order a of boiled shrimp with the same seasoning and it was also amazing and very delicious this was first time for us with other friends but it won't be the last time and if you are looking for some great food and great atmosphere for families

Food is average at best. Over priced for average food. I can remember why I haven't been thre in a long time.

Crawfish were awful! Wasted money, seemed like they were gone bad it and old. I've been coming here for a couple of yrs and this season has been terrible. Last night was the last straw

I usually I only go here for the crawfish which are always good, but I decided to try the brisket sandwich. 0/10 it tasted like they boiled the meat in plain water and had a faint taste of dish soap. They didn't even chop the meat up, it was just a big slab of unseasoned brisket that I had to break down myself. A lot of it was just fat. Took one bite and almost threw up. The parking lot is always empty and after trying the actual food I see why. Tried to force myself to eat it but just threw it away after a few torturous bites.

I love this place! The food is nice, the service is excellent, and the space is so cool. I highly recommend!

Love this place. Super cute environment and so much space and variety of food. Indoor and outdoor sitting for everybody to enjoy. Perfect hangout place for families with children.

I come almost every other week for their crawfish I don't have one complaint and they have a very good service, and genesis has always made us feel welcome and she is always very sweet to us when we come!

I finally had the chance to drop in after hearing so many things about Clay's from friends all over Houston. The ambiance is that of a Western Countryside with lots and lots of space. They have a lot of good eats, I was super hungry and I didn't feel like getting my hands dirty with crawfish so I opted for a burger. The way they do your ticket/tab is interesting. It's an open tab for card transactions where you can add additional alcohol or desserts if needed. If not you sign it and leave it at the table. The server was really sweet and checked on us regularly. Everything came out timely and my burger was delicious, my husband got the chicken fried steak and that thing was massive. Great prices and great portion sizes for quality food and good service.

Hadn't been back for years and the remodel looks great- expanded outdoor patio and upgraded the front entrance area- our meeting was supposed to be in a bigger room and there was glitches due to miscommunications and errors on their part. Food was ok- had better burgers and fries before- but came for fried mushrooms!

My family and I decided to celebrate my Texas A&M graduation at Clay's, we reserved the saloon room. Our coordinator Claudia was extremely helpful and professional. She ensured that my party had everything we needed. My family and friends were pleased and had a great time. We received many compliments about the food being delicious! Amazing atmosphere!! We definitely recommend this place for parties/celebrations. We will definitely plan for future events here!

Clay's is a long-time "western" American classic in West Houston that we have really appreciated and enjoyed for many years; the food is great and so are the staff - Megan is one of the best!

Jo knows me right when I walk in! I come with my daughter once a week for the amazing crawfish deals. The service here is unmatched to anywhere else we've been, which is why we keep coming back for more!

My grandma and I always come to eat crawfish here and we love it every time, but this time when Hannah served us we loved it even more!! Her attitude and service was beyond amazing and the environment was so peaceful today. We will definitely be asking for Hannah again!! Thank you so much Hannah

I went for the first time today. The server was very friendly and the food was excellent. The place is huge. A little dark on the inside but nice and clean. Very kid friendly. Great for large groups with the huge outside area. Will definitely be back.
