The Clayton Hotel | Best places to stay in Cambridge

"A big, bustling hotel, the Clayton is a good bet for anyone looking for a place to stay with serious buzz, rather than the muted elegance that characterises many of Cambridge’s other hotels, boutique hotels and B&Bs. The good-sized rooms come with a dollop of style; hand-made desks and wood-panelled headboards, and luxury marble bathrooms. The glammy, circular cocktail bar is a great place to start the night – if it feels too lively, the book-lined lounge has more of a genteel feel.  Dinner in the restaurant is ideal for families or friends, rather than an intimate meal a deux. Located right next to Cambridge train station, the hotel is ideal for a car-free break. The Botanic Gardens are a couple of minutes’ walk, while most of the main sites and colleges are within ten minutes on foot. The hotel’s location just outside the main sightseeing area also makes it a good bet if you want to escape the crowds. " - Annabelle Thorpe

We had such a wonderful stay at the Clayton Hotel Cambridge. The hotel itself is absolutely stunning and perfectly located in such a beautiful city.||We were kindly upgraded to a gorgeous room (615), which had a really special feel to it — thank you so much for that lovely surprise. The thoughtful gifts left in the room to celebrate my partner’s birthday were such a special touch and made the occasion feel truly memorable.||Every member of staff we met was friendly, professional, and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The hotel was spotlessly clean and beautifully presented throughout.||The in-room breakfast was amazing — fresh, delicious, and beautifully served. We also really enjoyed our dinner at the hotel restaurant — the food was delicious and beautifully cooked.||A small tip for anyone visiting: parking nearby is easy to arrange using the JustPark app.||Thank you again to the entire team for making our stay so special. We can’t wait to come back!

Spacious room with balcony and by far the most comfortable bed I have slept on. Easy access to the train station and walking distance to the city center. The staff are professional and friendly, too many to name personally but a special thank you to our barman Yuki who made the best vodka martini and kept his calm whilst being berated by some horrible customers. Clayton hotel be proud of this young man. The sliding bathroom door needs to be addressed as it kept sliding open.

BEST BED EVER! Me and my husband both thought the hotel was amazing. The room was a good size, clean, comfortable, well decorated and had everything that we needed for our stay. The gentleman that welcomed us on reception was friendly and very helpful. The dining staff were also lovely and food was nice. If we visit Cambridge again we will 100% use this hotel again. Thank you so much for making our stay comfortable. The bed was honestly the best bed we have ever slept in!

Came here for our anniversary. Wonderful experience start to finish. Friendly efficient staff. Bed and pillows very comfortable and water, soft drinks and snacks provided in our room. Rituals toiletries were a great addition. Breakfast was delicious with lots of choice, good quality too. Luc served us mostly at breakfast, clearing our table regularly and making sure we had everything we needed, also highly professional. We will be back.

From the booking staff, bar and restaurant staff, all were fabulous. The rooms are a very high quality standard and super clean.|Perfect location for the city centre which is only one mile away and the train station is over the road but you can’t hear it. We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent. We bought the rose petal, chocolate strawberries and a bottle of wine for our friend’s s special occasion, which was all set up for their arrival. Will definitely stay here again.

A remarkably friendly and helpful team coupled with first class accommodation. The bed was like floating on air, the food offering really great. The breakfast lay out incredible! The room was quiet and the team allowed me to park in the front due to my impending knee operation. The reception area was cosy with sofas and newspapers. Definitely would come again - Than you all.

We had a really lovely time at the Clayton. It is nicely situated - within a stone's throw of the station - but a nice walk into town. The rooms are spotlessly clean and well equipped - the balcony rooms are lovely to sit outside with tea or a glass of wine at the end of a long day enjoying beautiful Cambridge. The beds are wonderfully comfortable and the quilts marshmallow soft. The staff are mostly excellent with a special shout-out to Goáo (spelling?) and Yuki, the mixologist supreme!
