Clayton Hotel Cambridge

This is a lovely hotel. The rooms were clean, the whole building was decorated tastefully, and the staff were friendly & efficient. The location is perfect for the train station, but a bit of a walk from the centre. There weren’t any restaurants around the hotel, which was irritating after a long day. Overall our stay was fine, but the hotel lacks some details, especially for a four star: There weren’t any hooks for towels in the bathroom. The quality of extras was low - eg. Cheap toilet roll & tissues, no individual complimentary toiletries, no coffee machine (which you get even at budget hotels nowadays!) & low quality & poor selection of teas. My biggest issue was that we had a wonderful super king size bed, but the pillows & duvet on it were only for a king, so they were much too small! The duvet only just covered the very top of the mattress! I know this isssue has been reported in other people’s reviews, dating back two years at least, & clearly hasn’t been addressed yet, which is extremely poor customer service levels. Room service menu was limited (5 options) and no mini bar, which I expect of a four star hotel. Overall it was a pleasant hotel, in an ok location, which really lacked attention to detail.

I recently stayed at this hotel and honestly, it was just okay. The location is good, it’s close to the train station, which is convenient. But if you’re driving, there’s no parking provided, so you’ll have to arrange that yourself. The room wasn’t very clean, and the bed was too soft for me. Soundproofing was average. I could hear noise from outside and other rooms. The mini bar was messy and disorganized. They also don’t provide basic toiletries like toothbrushes, so remember to bring your own. The only thing provided was bottled water. I paid extra for the buffet breakfast, but it really wasn’t worth it. The food was not fresh, and the quality was poor. Items were slow to be refilled and not replenished in a timely manner, which was disappointing. Overall, the location is convenient, but there’s definitely a lot of room for improvement.

We had the most wonderful experience at the Clayton Hotel Cambridge. From the very first phone call to enquire about afternoon tea, the service was exceptional. I was assisted by the most helpful lady who was warm, knowledgeable, and couldn’t have been more accommodating. It immediately gave me confidence that we’d chosen the right place to celebrate. When we arrived, the service continued to be impeccable — the team truly couldn’t do enough to help and made us feel so welcome throughout. We were celebrating my daughter’s 9th birthday with afternoon tea, and the staff went completely above and beyond to make it extra special. She was surprised with additional cakes and treats, a thoughtful birthday card, and even a handwritten “Happy Birthday” message on her plate. The attention to detail and genuine kindness shown by the team made the day unforgettable. I would highly recommend the Clayton Hotel Cambridge to anyone looking for a special treat or celebration — the service and care we received were outstanding.

Cannot fault. Everything was exactly what I needed. We got a free upgrade by the lovely gentleman working this Wednesday night. Staff were helpful, friendly and just professional. Unfortunately, I was in an extreme rush to get inside our rooms since we had been travelling since morning so I did not catch the gentleman’s name. The beds are comfy, the bathroom was well lit and big for me to get ready and unready, everything was clean, complimentary mini bar, great heating and plenty of hot water (not all hotels have this, if you know then you know) and the most important thing - it was quiet especially since you’re central.

The location next to the train station was perfect for our needs. We arrived very late at the night and staff were very accommodating. |The hotel interior is absolutely gorgeous and the rooms are modern with a great vintage atmosphere. We had room service which was delicious. Really have nothing negative to say about this wonderful hotel! Oh yes, great value for money if you want a bit of luxury when travelling;)

As always the room was clean and well presented as was the ensuite. The staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was included and a great choice of cooked or continental. Made us e of the gym this time, has a few bikes, cross trainers, rowing machine, and free weights - nicely air conditioned.

We had a lovely one night stay at this hotel. Greeted by professional, friendly staff we were delighted to get a room upgrade. Our room was spacious, well equipped and elegant. There is a lovely seating area on the mezzanine level where we sat to have drinks with the rest of our group. The whole experience was great and we would definitely stay here again.

This was our third stay at Clayton Hotel Cambridge, and once again it did not disappoint. The hotel is modern, very comfortable, and perfectly located. The staff are friendly and professional, and everything is always clean and well organized. It truly feels like a place we can rely on every time we visit Cambridge. Highly recommended , we love coming back here.
