Canadian Indigenous Coalition Buys Clearwater Seafoods in Historic Deal | Eater

"One of North America’s largest shellfish suppliers, headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is being sold in a C$1 billion deal to a coalition of Miꞌkmaq First Nations in partnership with a Canadian specialty food company. The acquisition has been described as historic and the largest Indigenous investment in the Canadian seafood industry to date; leaders involved call it a transformational moment that will make participating communities meaningful players in the sector. The plan includes integrating Indigenous workers into the business and creating an enduring economic legacy that benefits future generations. The sale has also provoked pushback from non‑Indigenous commercial fishermen, who accuse the firm of monopolizing access to the offshore deep‑water lobster fishing area LFA 41, and tensions have escalated into incidents such as the destruction of Miꞌkmaq catch and the suspicious burning of an Indigenous lobster pound." - Jenny G. This time we ate raw lobster in Hali. Lobster store is a recommendation on the Internet, in fact, Hali, such as Clearwater, there are a lot of aquatic stores, look on Google map will be a lot. One of the characteristics of aquatic stores here is that they have a lot of peripherals, just like the COWS ice cream store that sells funny souvenirs. There are mugs with funny graphics on them, and of course, most of the funny has to do with lobsters. There are also lobster plush toys, refrigerator stickers. You won't be able to resist taking a few home with you. Lobster prices are categorized and priced on a gradient with reference to gasoline, and are also categorized as Premium , selects and choice. Prices are similar, so you can not help but choose the best. The “cold chain” packaging for guest pickup is professional and sturdy. Very professional feeling. Of course, the saleswoman on the day was very friendly and welcoming. I went back and cooked it briefly, and the lobster was tightly packed, incredibly flavorful, and even slightly sweet.

It was my first time visiting here today and I bought two whole haddocks. There were only two left in the store, so I bought them with my friend and divided them. It was a good price and fresh condition. Next time, I'll come buy a giant octopus.😄

A honest and reliable business, highly recommended! I travelled to Halifax from Toronto and wanted to purchase a product from their retail store at Halifax Stanfield International Airport on my way flying back home. Unfortunately something went wrong and I can’t get what I wanted (NOT Clearwater fault). I contacted their customer service and shared my experience, and they provided a perfect solution (much better than I expected) to fix my problem! I really appreciate their effort and I will be their loyal customer from now on!!

Everything is good, clean market, kind employees, price is Ok, not too much. We bought two lobsters and were taught how to cook them. Easy parking and yes, this market is worth our time. There are four level live lobsters with different price. And cooked lobsters are both good looking.

We had a good experience last summer. My sister was visiting with her kids and one of the associates came out and held the lobsters for the kids and let them pet it. They gave us good advice and we bought a lobster, a few oysters and sea scallops. Everything was good and cheaper compared to going to a restaurant.

Quality of lobsters and other seafood was great, well packed for long trip to ontario. Highly recommend and will order again for sure.

Who ever the woman is that is working today march 17th at 5pm and answering the phone has very poor customer service skills, very rude and ignorant should be fired. I called to get prices and she was not helpful and was very cocky. She needs to be FIRED she is giving your company a bad name.

We generally have a great experience here but the last two visits on the same weekend we were met with less than stellar service. Totally curt and unwelcoming responses when we were spending over $100. The weekday staff were much better and talked to us and showed us the different lobster grades and let us take pictures with the kids. The weekend staff actually told us no pictures suddenly. I had out of town guests who were just excited about being able to purchase lobster for $8.99. No need to rain on their excitement. Not sure why there is such a big difference in service quality but hope they straighten it out.
