Maybe Everyone Should Blow Out Their Birthday Candles Like Mitt Romney | Eater

"A 2017 study conducted at the university and published in the Journal of Food Research found that blowing out birthday candles increased bacterial levels on cake by roughly 1,400%. The researchers concluded that candle-blowing transfers oral bacteria and other microorganisms from the respiratory tract to icing, making it likely that people who eat the cake will ingest droplets of the blower’s saliva; such droplets can carry pathogens like influenza and the common cold. The findings suggest that alternative, more sanitary methods of extinguishing candles can reduce microbial contamination of shared desserts." - Vince Dixon

Google
What an amazing campus. First opened as a military college, then became available to civilians, women and fully integrated in 1963. After graduating with my doctorate in Environmental Toxicology in 1996 I have never returned until 2020. Although the city has changed drastically, the campus' beauty and attention to the most current curricula still remains. They have a beautiful new Business School and the campus life can't be beat. Add to it to beauty of the nearby mountains and lakes, 90 mins to Atlanta and overall excellence in education you cannot go wrong.

Google
Such a beautiful campus. I love visiting the gardens or walking around downtown. When I was in college at Tri-County, they allowed me to come to the BCM at Clemson and I had such a good time there. Highly recommend it.

Google
Visited Clemson for the Solar Eclipse, and then went for a long run around the University and city afterwards. It's such a beautiful campus! The people were friendly, downtown Clemson was quaint, over all I had a great experience.

Yelp
I worked and visited the 2024 Clemson Carolina game on Nov 30th. This was my first visit to the campus and stadium and I was impressed by the amount of diehard Clemson and Carolina fans. I was there as an usher and was fortunate to see the football field up close. It was a special experience. Go Tigers and Gamecocks!

Yelp
I'm not a Clemson fan, but I do like the Tigers and root for them when they're not playing one of my teams, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. I love the ACC and generally root for ACC teams in non-conference play, especially bowl games, the College Football Playoff, and March Madness. Clemson has represented the league extremely well in recent years with two football national championships (2016, 2018) and their men's basketball team advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 as recently as 2018. The first college football game I attended in person was a matchup between Wake and Clemson in Winston-Salem in the late 80s/early 90s. I remember my elementary school friends and I sat behind the Clemson players on the sidelines. My friend got one of the Clemson players' attention and said "Go Deacs!" while decked out in Wake gear. As kids, we thought it was funny at the time. Clemson and Georgia Tech have a football rivalry that dates back to 1898 or 1902 depending on where you look. I still remember where I was my freshman year at Tech when we beat Clemson in Death Valley. October 28, 2000. George Godsey to Kerry Watkins, 16-yard touchdown reception with seven seconds left on the clock for the 31-28 come-from-behind win: https://youtu.be/8WXOg5YNaLQ?t=9094. And of course, who can forget the 2004 game, also in Death Valley, where "a legend was born in Calvin Johnson." Another come-from-behind victory for the Jackets. That time, 28-24. Don't forget, the beloved Reggie Ball threw that pass. September 11, 2004. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JL6YQsw7Y4. I was there at the 2009 ACC Championship Game in Tampa between Clemson and Tech. December 5, 2009. Tech won that game as well, 39-34. We beat Clemson two times in the same season that year. We actually beat Dabo Swinney five out of our first eight meetings against him (2008-2014), but once Dabo got the program established at an elite level, Clemson has pretty much owned us with an 8-2 record against Tech since 2010. The 2016 (played in 2017) and 2018 (played in 2019) national championship games against Alabama were a lot of fun to watch. Deshaun Watson was absolutely clutch down the stretch in the 2016 title game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYp9hcsqqRE. In the 2018 title game, Clemson laid the smackdown on Bama, blowing out the Tide, 44-16. The 2019 title game (played in 2020) against LSU was painful to watch, with Clemson getting beaten by the better team, 42-25. However, there's no doubt that Dabo has now established Clemson football as one of the nation's powerhouse programs. I've always liked Dabo. He seems like a swell guy. Clemson men's basketball during the Rick Barnes era (1994-98) was memorable to me. He led the Tigers basketball team to the NCAA tournament three out of his four years with a Sweet 16 appearance in 1997 with talented players like Greg Buckner, Harold Jamison, and Terrell McIntyre. I still remember watching a game between Clemson and North Carolina in Chapel Hill where so many Clemson players had fouled out that Clemson had to finish the game with only four players on the court. I've never seen anything like it since. That was January 29, 1998. Clemson used to hold one of the worst and most well-known losing streaks in sports. They had lost 59 straight games on the road against Carolina, dating back to 1926. That 59-game losing streak is an NCAA record. Clemson finally broke that streak on January 11, 2020, beating the Tar Heels in the Dean Dome, 79-76 in overtime. As far as Clemson fans go, they've always been some of the nicest and friendliest fans I've interacted with. Same goes with Auburn fans. Auburn is like the Clemson of the SEC. The two schools are similar, down to their colors (orange) and mascots (Tigers), and they share quite a bit of football history. The only negative experience I've had with a Clemson fan was at a Waffle House in Florida after the 2009 ACC Championship Game. A young Clemson female fan cursed out the staff of the Waffle House before storming out of the restaurant. She made a scene and was incredibly rude. If you've ever seen those "IPTAY" stickers on Clemson fans' cars, it stands for "I pay ten a year." It means they donate to Clemson's athletic programs. The slogan is from 1934 and they've just kept the name even though it's outdated. It's kind of like how the Big Ten is still called the Big Ten even though there are 14 - not 10 - teams in the conference.

Yelp
We did a campus tour with our daughter. It was easy to set up online. They have you park at a church off campus and take a shuttle in because parking is hard to come by once you are on campus. I thought the presentation was great and our tour guide was very personable. The campus is pretty nice and I look forward to spending more time up there in the fall.

Yelp
I didn't get to explore the campus but the part I did get to see was beautiful. It was the middle of a school day so the campus was lively and full of activity. The stadium is huge! I love the tiger paws all around campus--too cute!! I grabbed lunch at one of the dining halls. The hall is huge and consists of a few options including Which Wich, Twisted Taco, and Starbucks. Students can rent bicycles to travel around campus--great idea!

Yelp
With a "Song that Shakes the Southland" these Tigers are no drag. It's not played by some cover band We jam to the Tiger Rag! Clemson Football speaks for itself. A great team, amazing coach and thrilling environment, make Clemson one of (if not THE) best schools for football season. All athletics aside, Clemson University is a spectacular school. There are so many majors to choose from and a staff full of dedicated professors and administrators. I did not attend myself but was accepted and have several friends/colleagues who shared experiences with me. Truly a wonderful environment for academia and the college experience. Through all of the visits for tours, field trips, football games and friendly gatherings, I've never left this place unhappy. C L E M S O N -- T I G E Rrrr S! Fight Tigers, Fight Tigers, Fight, Fight, FIGHT!!

Yelp
My little brother went here for one semester (fall 2016) and he hated it. Sweltering hot dorm, crappy roomate, he was unhappy. He doesn't miss you guys one bit and he never will. I know I had a bad relationship with him growing up, but that's no excuse for you to put him through something he wasn't comfortable with.

Yelp
Really nice and clean campus. I was just driving through, since I'm a big fan of their sports division. A lot of new apartments near the college that looked liked they were just built. Their campus is well organized and they have a decent student population (around 18,000). Their student to professor is 14 to 1, which is really good for a college this size. They have a huge football stadium as well.

Yelp
Great vibe. Great food choices. Great family feel. We visited yesterday and it's a beautiful campus and everyone is so helpful and friendly. Great academics. New buildings and dorms!

Yelp
From a beautiful campus to superior athletics, one of the most impressive universities out there. Our son recently attended baseball camp, we cannot say enough good things about it. Hands down, spectacular facilities! Also, the cafeteria blew my mind. More food then any buffet I have ever seen, I could've stayed in there all day just to try everything they had to offer WOW!!!! Huge props to the Coach and staff for making this such a wonderful experience. GO TIGERS!!!!

Yelp
Been a Clemson FAN FOR MANY YEARS!!! Our son attended their football camps while in high school and applied but did not get accepted but our daughter did get accepted and is currently a Freshman Education major. We are members of iptay and love the tailgates during home games.

Yelp
The food is unappetizing, and often undercooked. This is the most underwhelming restaurant I have ever been to. I do not think you should go there and waste your money. The entire time you are there you will be looking across the street and wishing you were actually ordering good food. This restaurant needs to change or I hope they go out of business.

Yelp
I say I'm a fan, but I'm a northern girl, so I'm really a fan of Clemson football. My alma mater is in the Midwest, and I have never gone crazy for any of its athletics, but I'm hooked on Clemson football. I love the experience at Death Valley. I have to say that Southerners are passionate about their football, much like the Midwest is passionate about basketball. I have never seen a college campus come alive for football like Clemson does. It's easy to get caught up in the excitement. On this particular game day, I was there for military appreciation, and I loved that they brought in military planes, helicopters and folks from all of the branches. It was a great way to honor our military. If you've never experienced tailgaiting and a game at Clemson, do yourself a favor and go!

Yelp
This college is a big joke and a waste of time. I tried calling several times for information to get enrolled in this college. No one will help me or send me in the right direction. Don't even return phone calls when I leave a message.

Yelp
A magical place. Met my beautiful sexy wife here. Got a Food Science degree here. Made some best friends here. Got completely drunk here. GO TIGERS!

Yelp
Gorgeous campus, friendly people. We are here for a campus tour and will hopefully return with a freshman in tow next year! The football stadium is amazing. The dorms and buildings are all well maintained.

Yelp
I cannot review as a student, of course, but I've been on campus a few times. The campus is delightful. Very spread out, lots of green. I come from New England where we've got gorgeous campuses abound so, you know, the competition in my head is stiff. Still, it's lovely and if you're campus driven when choosing a school, I'd recommend giving Clemson a look-see.
google avatar

Yelp
Gorgeous campus but be prepared to walk a lot of hills! Visitor parking is scarce and metered which seems uncalled for. Make sure you get a picture with all the tigers and go see Littlejohn as well as Howard's Rock! The lawn with tiger paw is a great photo op!

Yelp
Clemson is the best school in the world! The sports are great and education is even better. It's beautiful and if anyone gives it less than five stars they're probably dumb or a USC fan.

Yelp
Even many years after graduating, I am drawn to this place and cherish the time I get to spend here. A beautiful campus and a great place to get an education.

Yelp
There is not much better than a Saturday tailgating and watching a great game of football in Death Valley. My family has been coming to games since 1977. Love, love, love Clemson University! Go Tigers!!!!!!!
google avatar

Yelp
You don't have to like Clemson football but the campus is gorgeous. It's amazing what a historic, large, gorgeous University can do for a small sleepy town. Top notch university, great sports history and tradition, many excellent stores and restaurants near-by. Everyone should check it out. Baseball is currently in season and the Tigers are doing well. You should definitely get down there for a game.

Yelp
Can't give Clemson a 5, because I never went there. I will give it a solid 4 though, because most of my family went/go there. My grandfather played football for them in the late 50's, even played for the National Championship against LSU. We usually go to 1 or 2 games a year, and we have a lot of fun. It's one of those things that's just part of your life and you take seriously. It's funny though, I went to a different school w/ a football team, but I consider myself more of a Clemson fan, than my actual college. I guess having it hammered into your head from day one, is a reason. The campus is beautiful and not too far from the mountains, which is always nice to drive through. My blood runneth orange!

Yelp
One of the Best game day atmospheres in all of College Football. The Tiger Walk, Howards Rock, Tiger Rag and "Running down the Hill" makes for a game day environment that is impressive to any college football fan. When I attended the Tigers were ranked #3 in the country and expectations were high. As we were walking in from the parking lots in the colors of an opposing team we were greeted several time with "Welcome to Clemson," or "Glad You are Here." We found the Clemson fans Passionate and devoted but for the most part, polite and respectful. In the stadium, the 86,000+ fans were loud and definitely know how to give their Team a big home field advantage. My visit to Clemson's Memorial Stadium was a Bucket List trip for me and I am glad I was able to scratch it off of my list. Hats off to Clemson and the Tiger Nation.

Yelp
Three stars for the basketball program. When I was a kid all my friends either pulled for Carolina or Duke. So I decided to like the underdogs = Clemson. We've been through some tough times together. We did finally win the ACC a few years ago but never did anything worth remembering in the NCAA. This past year we lost to Michigan St in the first round. MICHIGAN ST!!! O well, we're not nor will we ever be able to compete with the Devils or Tarheels but we have pretty orange uniforms. Go Tigers!!!!

Yelp
Dear future Clemson Students, If you have a food allergy, do not come to Clemson University. After 20 years of being alive and feeding myself, I was hospitalized due to improper labelling of food in the CORE dining hall and quite literally almost died. For months now the staff at Clemson has been attempting to isolate me from campus culture and they have successfully done so. I was told today that my only option was to withdraw from my meal plan. Clemson has successfully bullied me out of eating with my friends, firstly out of fear of having a near death experiencing, and secondly by not providing me with a safe alternative. There is a single dining hall section that is"allergy free" but it is located in Schilletter and there is only one option (if you're even lucky enough to get there when there is food over there). Putting that aside, if I did decide to be brave and hike all the way across campus to eat, I would have already burned off everything I ate by the time I returned to my dorm. I will not stand by and let future freshman that live on the west side of campus be bullied out of experiencing campus culture. Eating with friends is a huge social experience, especially as a freshman, and not providing students with safe and healthy alternatives is isolating from the Clemson Family. Sincerely, A disappointed Tiger

Paul G.

Yelp
I was able to go to Clemson University not just for an academic visit but an athletic visit as well. Clemson is a beautiful school, but there are a lot of hills throughout the campus so walking from class to class would be a little hike but the view is worth it. I was also able to visit the football field and inside the football buildings and they were beautiful. I did think the tour took a little bit too long but that was because the guides have a lot of good information that they tell the tourists as we were walking the campus and exploring new buildings. I had a very good experience on this tour and I would recommend it to anybody who is interested in going to the university or someone who loves college football.
