I totally dig the vibe of this restaurant. From the dim lighting to the giant portrait of Cleopatra to the cluster of candles dripping wax moodily onto the candelabra, for me, the ambience alone is a good enough excuse to come back.
==Breakdown of my dinner:
Vinebury (cocktail): 5/5 I don't drink often, but when I do, I want it to be worth the Pepcid. My main complaint about drinks is that they usually taste sickly sweet from the syrup used. However, according to our server, all drinks at Cleo are muddled and mixed at the bar. The Vinebury was so refreshing, I couldn't stop sipping.
Potato Latkes: 3/5 They didn't taste bad, but I'm not a huge fan of latkes in general, especially since I'm partial to the potato pancakes I make myself.
Brussels Sprouts: 3/5 Just like the latkes, they didn't necessarily taste bad, but I felt this dish wasn't good bang for your buck, as they don't even use the whole sprout. You literally feel like you're eating oily, deep fried, crispy leaves.
Lebaneh with Feta: 5/5 Wow! Without a doubt, my favorite dish of the night. Perhaps it's cuz I'm a carb lover but the flatbread came out pillowy, soft, and warm. It tasted heavenly without the feta, but even godlier with it. So addictive! Do yourself a favor and order this.
Meatball Tagine with couscous: 4/5 The meatballs were just a tad bit over salted, but the mix of soft egg, beef balls, smoked tomato sauce, and couscous squashed all my feelings of h-anger.
We were so stuffed afterwards, we didn't have enough room for dessert. Bummer!
Overall, dinner was on the medium pricey side, but the price is well worth it if you pick the right dishes.
