We had dinner there this evening and it was overall a decent experience but I wouldn’t return. Short rib dumplings: 2/5 Five steamed dumplings in broth. It came out at room temperature and we had to ask the kitchen to remake it. The second version was noticeably warmer but still not as hot as it should be. I think this dish has potential if they can figure out how to serve it hot. Krazy Fries: 4/5 Came out piping hot! Crispy fries covered with pieces of pork belly. I think the garlic aioli was a bit too heavy handed. Would recommend getting it on the side to preserve the crispness of the fries and pork belly. Chow mein: 3/5 Not sure why they call it chow mein when they use Japanese yakisoba noodles. This dish was tasty but nothing special. It came out hot but the noodles were a bit overcooked. Bulgogi steak (side): 2/5 We ordered bulgogi steak as an added protein to the chow mein. Our server said it would be sliced but it’s not thinly sliced the way traditional bulgogi is. The steak was lukewarm and not very tender. It tasted nothing like bulgogi. Fried rice: 3/5 Also decent but nothing special. Came out hot which should be expected of all dishes but it seemed hit or miss here so I’m mentioning it. Orange chicken (side): 3/5 We ordered orange chicken as an added protein to the fried rice. It was four battered pieces coated in an orange glaze. It was hot but overcooked (the chicken was tough and stringy, not tender). Kids chicken karaage and French fries: 5/5 For $10, this was the best value and best executed dish of the evening. The chicken was hot and crispy and tender (not overcooked), and the French fries were very crispy and hot. I think this place is okay if you’re not seeking authentic Asian cuisine and not picky about the temperature of your food.

Clever Koi, you Koi-mplete me. Feeling koi-ful today! We ordered two trios of baos (mine with pork belly, kimchi tempura cauliflower, and the featured steamed bun of fried shrimp), duck ramen, and a golden myth cocktail. Did we over-order? We sure did! The portions here are generous. Share a trio of baos, share the ramen, but don't share your cocktails because they're seriously good. I really enjoyed all my baos and I think these baos are definitely worth ordering. Each version was interesting and delicious. I especially liked the kimchi tempura cauliflower. As for my duck ramen, as much as I like duck, I found my ramen to be super rich. It was thick, packed full of sodium, and lacked a certain balance. I mainly ordered the ramen because our waiter spoke highly of their ramen, even saying that they're known for it. I do want to rty their other noodle dishes though. All in all, I had an amazing time here! The vibes were vibin' and the interior is just completely gorgeous. In a world full of fish, be a koi.

Walked in hungry. Left fat, dumb, and happy! The host greeted us like we were VIPs at a noodle nightclub. Our waiter? A flavor Jedi. Guided us through the menu like we were on a food spirit quest. I got the Seafood Hot Plate. That broth? Straight-up sriracha oceanic poetry. The noodles hugged my soul. The shrimp and calamari made me question every life decision I've made that didn't involve them. My girlfriend got the Pork Tonkotsu Ramen. I tasted it. Almost proposed to her and the bowl. And the buns? Lord help me. Who doesn't love some hot--steamy buns? Big, juicy, put them in my face buns. Those let me smell them before I taste them moist fluffy buns! Three pillowy pockets of perfection: Pork Belly, Hot Chicken, and Kimchi Cauliflower. Cocktails? Anime-level dramatic. Sipped one and felt emotionally prepared to fight a dragon or my work group text thread. Moody lighting, cozy vibes, sexy broth steam--it's an amazing time waiting to happen. Come for the buns. Stay for the broth. Leave fat, dumb, and happy! Highly recommend

We went here on a Friday night and made reservations but they weren't needed as we were able to be seated early. Its a cute and cozy place but it's also one of those places that you take a date to if you don't want to talk or enjoy screaming at each other as it's very loud in there. We ordered the loaded fries, orange chicken, and hot pot. The fries were the best part as they were crispy and full of flavor but the meat on top was way over cooked and very hard to chew. Neither of us enjoyed our main dishes as there wasn't any flavor. It felt like they forgot to season everything but looking around there were a lot of people enjoying their food so this restaurant just didn't fit our pallet. We also both ordered drinks but we couldn't tell you what they were as both were so heavy on the alcohol that's all you tasted. So the good news is they don't skimp on the alcohol here! We also kept being switched wait staff so it was hard to get anyone's attention as we didn't know who to flag down and everyone was busy attenting to their own tables. Over all I can't see us coming back unless we wanted more appetizers.

Mediocre, kinda over priced, Asian *inspired* food for white people. I actually really liked the pork belly steamed bun! But the ramen and Dan Dan noodles were not great. The ramen noodles had a nice texture but the broth was lacking. Rich but needed more flavor and complexity. (I tried both the chicken and pork ramen broth). The chicken meat was fine but my boyfriend said the pork meat was weird, like they deep fried it or something. Both ramens included a cold poached egg. I would’ve preferred a softboiled egg like you would usually get in ramen. The Dan Dan noodles were crazy. First of all, they were made with udon noodles, and secondly they had no Sichuan peppercorn taste at all. I only tasted peanut. Though I’m not surprised the food wasn’t great when I saw that they used udon noodles in their Dan Dan and pad see ew. Staff was nice, general vibe was clean and trendy. I didn’t love our table location which was in the middle of the floor next to the expo window, but our reservation was pretty last minute.

This place used to be my spouse's and my favorite place to go to for food and service. But after revisiting them sometime last weekend for a date night, that changed everything. The place looked the same, great ambience, good music and seating. We got greeted well and seated proper at a booth. Very much later came our server who looked quite mean in my opinion at first to get our drinks. Then later was switched over to another server which we are glad that happened. Prior to ordering we had informed our server about peanut and mushroom allergies and asked questions how their foods were cooked and to make sure nothing was cross contaminated. Our server went and did her diligence of finding out for us. She came back and assured that nothing would be cross contamimated but with the look on her face of uncertainty. So we placed our orders for their calamari, their Pork Ramen, Trio steamed buns knowing that it would be peanut and mushroom free. Once we recieved our food on our tables. Apparently they cook everything else in the same deep frying oil and grill. It was worded "General or community oil". The fried pork belly that was in our ramen was fried in the same "community or general oil" and so were the fried calamari and pork in the steamed buns. Our server even had the audacity to tell us " eat it at your own discression". Our reactions were Like, what!? Did she really just say that? Why even place our orders in to be made? It could've saved both parties the trouble, time and money spent. Here it is, all this didn't sit right knowing the fact my spouse couldn't eat any of it while Im dining with her. And the fact I got charged for all that food that we couldn't get to eat and enjoy as a dine- in experience . The only thing that was a great experience was our drinks and the gentleman that came over and served them and the cool menu presentation. Won't be visiting this location in the future nor recommending it for others who may have allergens and who dont like walking out smelling like they been sitting in the kitchen dining. Lol. Satisfaction and pleasant experience left unfulfilled. We wefe pretty bummed about our visit.

Great atmosphere and polite staff. We ordered several types of food. The chicken ramen was kind of bland and had to add a lot of siracha to give it something. The duck ramen, the duck was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, good flavor. Wish they had gluten free broth options. The soy sauce is way over powering flavor. The bulgogi dumplings were good. Nice flavor. We also got the Pad Se Ew, had to add chili oil because the only flavor we got was like a vinegar base. We added the bulgogi steak to it and it had a lot of salt as a crust. The steak was medium, so that was fine.

I was disappointed with my experience this time. I was excited to bring family from out of town to this restaurant based on a great previous visit, but unfortunately, the food did not meet expectations. The mushroom dish was extremely bland, with a coating that seemed to lack any seasoning. Additionally, all of us ordered the orange chicken, which was a major letdown. The rice was dry, flavorless, and lacked even basic seasoning. The chicken itself was overcooked, and the breading-to-chicken ratio was off—many bites felt like biting into fried dough rather than actual chicken. Overall, the meal was underwhelming, and I’m unsure if we’ll return in the future.

Yelp
I was first introduced to Clever Koi at a prior Yelp event and my first experience was a pleasant one and I wanted to give it another visit. They're located near a parking garage so parking wasn't an issue. We were able to make a reservation for 7:45 pm dinner. We were seated promptly. The atmosphere gives off a cozy, warm and inviting atmosphere. Shortly after being seated we were provided with water and greeted by our friendly server. He was knowledgeable about the menu and provided great recommendations. On this visit we ordered 3 of their steamed buns (2 pork bellies and 1 featured steam bun). We also shared their orange chicken and chilled sesame noodles. All the dishes were fantastic and full of flavor. I also ordered one of their ube'be pina colada mocktail which was also delicious. My nine year old stepson was also with us. He ordered their fried rice and pork belly Raman. The portions were generous, but not full of a ton of flavor. Overall a great place for dinner and would visit again.

Yelp
So sad to leave this review as I love the name, and both service and the vibe of this restaurant is great. Where they completely fail is the taste of the food. We ordered 3 bao buns- 3 for $18 or $7 each. We ordered 2 pork belly and 1 shrimp. I was really looking forward to it but as soon as I bit into the pork belly bun, I realized it was not edible. It was extremely tough and I just could not chew through it. The shrimp bun was ok, but it only had 1 small piece of shrimp and it didn't have much flavor. We also ordered the chicken katsu sandwich with fries. The fries were very good but the sandwich was extremely underwhelming. It didn't taste like anything?? Hubby even made a comment about how it was possible to take the flavor out of chicken? This restaurant has so much potential but their food needs a serious overhaul. It's like they don't even know about the basic flavor composition of Asian food! The concept is great but the execution is so far from being an Asian fusion restaurant.

Yelp
Following up on a recent Yelp Elite Week visit to Clever Koi in Gilbert, took my daughter and her fiancée there for dinner. Despite living in Gilbert and frequently dining in Gilbert heritage district, they had never been. Great visit. Had reservation, but probably didn't need it on weeknight at 6 pm. I just want to ensure we had an inside table for Luna since it was 104' out. Promptly seated and then visited by our server who explained the Clever Koi unique vibe (Asian food representing dishes from the whole area) and then the very inventive craft cocktail menu. I love it. We started with some the Shrimp Shoyu taco's, and the moved into an order of steamed buns. Then it was entree time while I enjoyed my very tasty and unique Golden Myth cocktail. Having worked and lived around Asia, I can say the dishes are a pretty darn good representation of the originals. We sampled the Pad See Ew with pork belly; the Chow Mein with bulgogi; and the Drunken Noodles with bulgogi. Service was nice, several servers teamed up on our table and the bartender even came out with our cocktails and said both Phoenix area Clever Koi locations were going to be developing their own unique cocktail list (they currently share the list). Coolio. I'll drop in for a happy hour cocktail just by itself. They really are a star of the Clever Koi experience. In addition to Golden Myth, we tried the Kanagawa's Great Wave and the String of Pearls cocktails. All three were refreshing and unique. Nice outdoor, shaded patio with misting fans will keep you cool as a cucumber if at height on summer heat. Everything was about $50 pp with appetizer, craft cocktail and entree ex tax and tip. I think a pretty good value. Both my daughter and her fiancée loved it. The reputation deservedly grows

Yelp
Our server here was fantastic! Can't remember his name but he was super sweet and did a great job. Food and drinks here were pretty good. Enjoyed the vibe.

Yelp
Came here for Sunday Funday past weekend. Had a blast actually, we thought the food was pretty decent and the drinks were delish. My personal fave is the bees knees cocktail. I find the ambiance inviting. Our server was great and attentive. I would say the happy hour could be better but regardless I think it's a great deal especially if you use the inkind app.

Yelp
How did I miss this place for so long! You gotta have this on your list of restaurants in downtown Gilbert. Located near the garage this place is a fresh take on Asian restaurant. They have bao buns, ramen, drunken noodles. So it caters to all your likings. Their cartoon drink menu is a highlight and the cocktail selection is endless. To start off with I went with long thailand, crab dumplings and assorted bao buns with chicken, pork and kimchi. The drink was absolutely yummy and was delightfully good. The crab dumplings were delicious, crispy and flavorful. My favorite were the bao buns, all were excellent and I could just eat them all day. I tried the vegan ramen, which was decent and the tofu was the highlight, it was grilled and had a good texture. Overall an awesome experience with exceptional service. The ambiance is chic and modern. I'll be back soon!

Yelp
Yummy place! My family and I came here to and tried many different dishes. I have heard of the one in Phoenix and was excited to hear there was one opening up in Gilbert. The ambience is great, very modern and a good amount of seating. They have many different options for drinks and our server was helpful in suggesting options to us. We specifically ordered the Porn Star, Zenitsu Zour and the Scarlet Sora. Although the drinks took a hot minute to get to our table, they were delicious and we would definitley order them again. For appetizers, we ordered the Avocado Crab Rangoons and the Steamed Buns. Both were really tasty and didn't last long on the table. For dinner, we ordered an array of dishes. I personally had the Pork Ramen. It was good, however I would have prefered that it was creamy. The rest of the table ordered the Katsu Sandwich, Drunken Noodles, Shaking Beef and Chow Main. Everybody seemed to really enjoy it and took the leftovers home since they were great size portions. Overall we had a great time. The only thing I struggled with was the service being a little slower. Our server was great, but the drinks and our food took longer than expected. I know this very well could be a growing pain, so I will be back in the future!

Yelp
We came here on a Saturday evening with no reservation, and the weather was pretty nice so we opted for a table outside on the patio. There is plenty of parking in the parking garage just a short walk away. We were seated right away and our server introduced himself shortly afterwards. We ordered a couple cocktails from the cutest comic book inspired drink menu. They have a wide selection of drinks, so definitely take some time to read through it to find the one that suits your preference the best. We ordered all of our food with the intent to share so we can try more. We ordered a few appetizers and a couple entrees, and everything came out fairly quickly given it was a busy night. I highly recommend trying the house made sriracha sauces! They're not too spicy, but add a nice citrusy flavor to any dish you add it to. We were huge fans. Everything we ordered was good, however my only critique would be regarding the shaking beef. Being Vietnamese myself, I have had many shaking beef dishes in the past. The one here at Clever Koi was good, but it does not taste like what shaking beef should taste like. This dish is typically strong in garlic and mixed with onions and/or bell pepper, and the shaking beef we tried here did not taste like it should have, although it was still very tasty. Overall, I would come here again. The ambiance is nice and the servers were great, no major complaints on my end!

Yelp
Great place for happy hour! Their HH cocktails did go up in price by a dollar but still a decent selection to choose from for 11.00. The cocktails posted were not on their HH menu (left) Riding the Pine and (right) Scarlet Sora. Both were our best cocktails of the night. There isn't a great selection of appetizers or starters on the HH menu but definitely yummy food that I have reviewed here before.

Yelp
The food here was fine, but definitely not worth the price. I ordered the Chicken Katsu Sandwich, and for $18, it just didn't deliver. The portion size was fair--I had leftovers--but the sandwich was packed with more cabbage than chicken, which felt like a letdown. My wife got the XO noodles. If you're into strong, fish-forward flavors, you might enjoy them. Personally, I thought they were just okay. The scallops completely overpowered everything else, so it ended up tasting like a one-note bowl of fishy noodles. The bao were a mixed bag. The shrimp one had barely any filling (you can see it in the photos), but the pork belly and hot chicken baos were actually pretty solid. Overall, it feels like the place is relying more on its "upscale" image than on delivering standout flavors. You can tell they're using quality ingredients, but the execution was bland and forgettable. That said, the service was great--our waiter was friendly and attentive, and the patio was genuinely a nice spot to sit with a good vibe. But at these prices, I expected a lot more from the food.

Yelp

Yelp
Hubby and I checked out Clever Koi for date night for the first time last night and were not disappointed! Our server Maya did an excellent job making some recommendations and was so nice and attentive! We started with the avocado rangoons and a trio of steamed buns. The rangoons were super crispy and full of flavor and the pineapple chili sauce and hot mustard were perfect compliments. We were even dipping the cabbage garnish in the pineapple sauce, we couldn't get enough! For the steam buns we went with the tempura cauliflower, the pork belly, and the seasonal catfish. The cauliflower had a great texture and the sauce was delicious, just a little hard to eat as it's one big, round piece of cauliflower in an oval shaped bun so some bites are all bun and others is a big bite of just cauliflower. The pork belly was delicious and flavorful and the hoisin sauce and peanuts were a great addition. Lastly the catfish was perfectly done and the yuzu aioli on top was *chefs kiss*. For entrees I went with the tonkatsu ramen and hubby had the miso chicken ramen. Both were delicious. The broths were phenomenal and the toppings plentiful. Our noodles were just a little under done so a little chewy still and my soft egg was covered in a goopy, almost still translucent egg white. I'm all for a jammy egg but I just prefer the egg white a smidge more cooked/firm. Overall, a great meal with great service inside a beautifully designed dining room. The decor is very pretty with flowers and lanterns artfully placed and good music for the perfect vibe for date night or gathering with friends.

Yelp
Not sure why this place is not always packed. I love their bao's, especially the cauliflower one. Lots of flavor. I came here one evening and it was empty, so obviously service would be great.

A lot of food options to choose from. It's a great restaurant to bring a large party to. Everything we ordered from the menu tasted fine.

Always excellent service from all staff members. Never bad service and the food?!!, omg DELICIOUS!!! The bar "artists " are phenomenal when it comes to mixing drinks.

Yelp
I've tried this place many times since I love a good ramen and they had best ramen advertised. I would certainly say good and ingredients are from scratch, but I'm not sure about the best. The ambiance and service are incredible and I love those aspects but never feel crazy excited towards the grub. Excellent drinks and bosa buns however!

Yelp
The food was alright, a little over cooked. The vibe is chill. Did not get much service at the bar. It's open seating but no one check on me. I finally waved a server down. I would go again though.

Yelp
This review is based specifically on our happy hour cocktail experience - I have eaten here before, many years ago and really did enjoy the experience, but it's been a so long, I can't really speak for it at this time, but based on our bar experience, imagine it would still be great! My husband and I were in the vicinity and thought we'd find a happy hour in the area. We really enjoyed our previous experience at Clever Koi, so thought we'd snag a seat at the bar for some beverages. At the time of this review they had a 4-6 Friday happy hour. They offer a couple bucks off of their appetizers and then offer $10 classic cocktails, which they have a nice selection of. Love the inside decor, very vibey and moody while still hovering nice light during the day, perfect option for a date night or have a nice dinner with friends or family. The bartenders were so friendly and on top of it, bringing us the menus promptly, along with water and asked if we had any questions. We only got the name of one of them, Kazton; but both of them were great. I ordered the Bees Knees, that came with a lavender touch and my husband got the Green Point. Both were delicious, perfectly balanced and hit the mark. My husband followed up with a recommendation,to follow his first cocktail (can't recall the name), from the bartender, which he really enjoyed. The food menu looked delicious and they had this kimchi burger as their special that sounded amazing, but alas, we had dinner plans. That being said, we will definitely be putting a pin in it for a a future visit to enjoy!

Yelp
I just discovered this little gem of a restaurant, and oh, do I wish I had found it sooner! I went there with my family for brunch/lunch last Sunday, and everything--food and service--was absolutely excellent. The fried rice was outstanding--unlike any I've had before. You didn't have to search for the eggs or the herbs and vegetables; it was all perfectly mixed in, making every bite scrumptious, flavorful, and full of spices. So well-made! The drinks were crafted beautifully and arrived quickly. we didn't have to wait half an hour for them, which was a nice change. The service was exceptional, and I loved how the staff worked together to make sure everything ran smoothly. Everyone was attentive, and the bartender even brought the drinks to our table himself. The bar area is beautiful. I loved this place so much that I tried to go back for lunch, only to realize they're only open for lunch on Saturdays and Sundays. That's the only downside, but it doesn't take away from how amazing this restaurant is. If you haven't been to Clever Koi, you're definitely missing out. I will be coming back time and time again! Everything was excellent.

Yelp
Hubs and I visited back on a weeknight in January. It was a chilly night and we were craving some warmth and ramen. We've heard great things about Clever Koi so we decided to give them a try. We arrived close to 8 pm and though there were other diners there, the place was not at all busy. We were greeted and seated right away. The space has a nice romantic vibe. We ordered the following: Korean fried mushrooms Calamari fries Vegan ramen + soft egg x2 The Korean fried mushrooms came with maitake mushrooms, daikon sprouts, red sriracha vinaigrette, and sesame seeds. They were very crunchy and tasty, especially with the vinaigrette! The calamari fries came with tempura calamari, mint, furikake, and yuzu aioli. Another tasty app. Hubs and I both ordered the same entree, vegan ramen with a soft egg. Though I appreciated the generous portion and amount of veggies (it was loaded!), I unfortunately did not love the flavor. I would have also preferred a creamier broth. I've heard their ramen is really good, so maybe I just ordered the wrong one. Nonetheless, we had a great experience and would definitely return. There's so much to try!

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner with a bunch of work friends. We heard good things about the restaurant and the atmosphere seemed fun. We were seated pretty quickly and staff was very friendly. I started off with an array of steamed buns (pork belly, Korean hot chicken and soft shell crab). They were all delicious! I would definitely have them again. For my entree I ordered the Spicy Kimchi Ramen. This was a little disappointing. I love kimchi, but the kimchi they used wasn't my favorite. Add the in-house made siracha, it's delicious. I was thinking about giving it a 3, but upped the score to a 4 because of the ambiance and friendly staff.

Yelp
I loved Clever Koi! Omg I can't believe I've never tried this place before! My husband and I went on Mother's Day and it was a nice place for lunch. We went with our 4 year old daughter who got the kids noodles and she loved it! I even found myself eating from her plate. They weren't bland and flavorless like most kids meals. My husband and I shared an order of the soft shell steamed buns and the hot chicken steamed buns. They were absolutely delicious. My husband got the short rib wontons and they were fabulous, they only bad thing was that we wanted more. I ordered the XO noodles and they were delectable. I loved the seafood and the level of heat. Not too spicy and also very flavorful. We got drinks as well and they were all very delicious. I will definitely say this is one of my new favorite Asian fusion places and I will 100% be back.

Yelp
This is an amazing hole in the wall ramen spot in downtown Gilbert. I cannot recommend this place enough. I will say the vibe of this place is perfect for a date night, girls night, family dinner or single meal kind of vibe. They specialize in craft cocktails and the bartenders were extremely knowledgeable with their spirits and made amazing recommendations. I stuck with two of the menu cocktails but my friend had the bartender make a drink of their choosing of course with the the desired spirit and I will say they were some of the best crafted cocktails I have ever tasted. We came here for ramen but could not pass up the appetizers. I highly recommend the calamari fries and we also had the short rib dumplings which were outstanding. I landed up with the miso ramen which was next level. The broth had an insane flavor and the vegetables, egg and chicken thighs were all paired perfectly. On the other hand the pork belly ramen was just as delicious I will probably get this one next time. We ordered "chili bombs" for some extra spice but it really doesn't need it, I just love anything spicy. Justin who served us at the bar was awesome. I will definitely be back to try more items and they have a great happy hour!

Yelp
My overall experience at Clever Koi was good. The ambiance is modern, clean, and has a great look to it. Our host and waiter were fine--nothing particularly remarkable, and if anything, they came off a bit awkward and clumsy, but they did take care of my table. The ramen was a solid 4/5 experience. I loved the noodles and the broth, but I wasn't a fan of the amount of kimchi, which overpowered the other flavors in the soup. Also, the soft-boiled egg was essentially raw, with the yolk and whites uncooked--not sure how that got missed. On the positive side, the pork belly was generous and crispy. I would likely return to Clever Koi, but the issues I mentioned leave me a bit hesitant.

Yelp
I've never been to a restaurant that serves ramen. Clever Koi was the only restaurant in DT Gilbert I hadn't tried yet so I was slightly excited to finally try it. Nice setup inside. Very nice ambiance. Service was good. For food I had the Pork Ramen. It was ok. It wasn't hot at all. Very little pork. Noodles were very undercooked for my liking. At home I make 50 cent ramen and add sesame oil, Sriracha, peanut butter, and two eggs. I prefer much more than ramen I had here. It wasn't bad just was expecting something a lot better.

Yelp
Got the chicken katsu and the bread was soft and chicken was crispy! I liked the aioli it came with as well. Wish it came with a little more fries though. The ambiance was fun - perfect for a date night!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I decided to try Clever Koi as our first meal landing in Arizona. We made a reservation, but had some issues with our rental leaving the airport and the restaurant was very accommodating about us running late. Clever Koi is such a cute date night vibe with their interior. We ordered the Steamed Buns (Korean Hot Chicken/Pork Belly/Soft Shell Crab), Short Rib Dumplings, XO Noodles, and Ba New New. Steamed Buns- Our favorite was the Pork Belly. I did wish it was a bigger piece but it was nice and fatty. The chicken was a good spin off of a Popeyes chicken sandwich, but in a bun form. The crab was our least favorite- we weren't a fan of the yuzu aioli. XO Noodles- Snow peas were a bit too crunchy for my liking. It was nothing special and it took too long after we finished our other entrees for the kitchen to make it even though we told our waitress we wanted our food as its cooked. Short Rib Dumplings- The short ribs reminded me of the meats in pho. Broth was flavorful and the broth and dumplings went well together. Ba New New- Sweet fruit drink, but I didn't get a lot of banana tasting to it. Overall, I wanted to like Clever Koi a lot more. The service was a bit slow to get our food ordered. I wasn't sure also why it took so long for the XO Noodles to come out especially after we had finish everything else and it's made on a wok so it should be quick. I was expecting to like the food more from all reading up all the reviews, but it was just ok. The portions were a bit small too, but as for the pricing it wasn't too bad. Maybe I'm used to eating Asian fusion in the OC, but nothing was really special for me to come back.

Yelp
I loved the vibe inside, it was super relaxing and nicely decorated. For starters, I shared the calamari fries with my friend which I really enjoyed. I typically find most fried calamari dishes not very good as they are usually too chewy, but these I really liked as they had a crispy outside, and they were fresh out the fryer. I had the chicken katsu sandwich as my entree with a Thai salad on the side, both I found to be very delicious. The salad was refreshing, and the chicken was juicy with a crisp outside. The bread was lightly toasted and the vegetables and sauce all paired nicely. I did not get a photo, but I tried my friend's steamed bun, and they were the fluffiest and softest steamed buns I have ever had. I loved every single thing I tried!

Yelp
Wow I am surprised I haven't tried this place before! I have been to downtown Gilbert many times and finally came here and tried this amazing restaurant. My table ordered a couple of different things and everything was delicious!!!!! Fabulous ambiance, casual and modern with really attentive service. Now the food and drinks were wonderful!!!!! Things I tried and highly recommend because they were all cooked to perfection and very flavorful , xo noodles, calamari fries, pork dumplings, Szechuan catfish, every single one delicious. I cannot wait to go back as this place is on my list of favorites now! Yum!

Yelp
My gf and I decided to try Clever Koi since we had never been here before. We were looking for Chinese food and Asian Fusion seemed to fit the bill. Walking into the restaurant at about 1230, I was quite surprised at how empty this place was. We were the only ones at the bar. We ordered some drinks. The enabler was very tasty! For lunch I went with the Szechuan catfish. It had the perfect amount of spice/heat and the flavor was outstanding! The restaurant itself was pleasing to the eye. It was dimly lit, which was nice to not be too bright. The music in the background was not overbearing. This is surely a place I'd recommend to friends and will likely return to.

Yelp
Amazing cocktails, friendly service and great atmosphere. The beef was too spicy for me.

Yelp
Went for the first time to the Clever Koi Sunday night this week. Service was fine, the people were nice. But we didn't go to just meet nice people. We went to eat. We had their Pad See Ewwww. There was nothing Thai about it. I'd wager they cooked it in oil and added tons of soy sauce and that's it. It was super salty and just not good. I tried to tell the server when she asked me if I'd like it boxed and I said, I'm not eating that. But she didn't catch on. Fast forward to an hour later when my wife had a major upset stomach and couldn't sleep. I also didn't see any Thai cooks. That would help. I had high hopes too.

Yelp
I'm certainly not clever and therefore won't be coy about the wonderful dishes and terrific time we had at Clever Koi. Asian Fusion at its finest! An extensive variety of delicious treats with a considerable amount of flavors to excite even the most picky palate. Clever indeed! The entire assortment of dishes ordered were simple, imaginative, flavorful, and well prepared. Every plate was well received. Please see *Photos of the spread and without a doubt you'll be enticed! Service: Although it was dinnertime with the restaurant pretty crowded, service was amazing and prompt from beginning to end. Cannot say enough about how wonderful the entire perch at Clever Koi was. Also noticed many patrons were regulars making it a true comfortable relaxed setting. Come make a stop at Clever Koi to savor the food and drinks. And if thats not enough to reel you in (see what i did there), check out the Happy Hour menu where tasty treats await you at a bargain!! *Extensive food menu plus a marvelous array of wines, cocktails, saké, and beers! Oh My! *Parking never an issue as it is next to a huge parking structure. *We had reservations and glad we did. As always, thank you for reading! Enjoy life and be safe.

Yelp
I came here with my boyfriend a while back to have some their ramen and havent been back for a while. Recently went back and tried out some of their other menu items and was not disappointed. Their food was delicious and flavorful. The special that they had the night we went was their swordfish and it was probably my favorite. I wish they had it all the time. Their Katsu sandwich was nice and crispy with a delicious sauce. I definitely recommend coming here and the service here was great every time I came here. I love the nice cozy atmosphere as well! Amazing food and service!

Yelp
We were craving Ramen and happened to be at the Farmers Market nearby at lunch time. Everything we ordered was full of flavor and loved it all! All 3 of the steamed buns were so good, will order again! Broth in Pork Ramen was delicious with black garlic oil, loved their kimchi in it, never had ramen with kimchi before and it's now my new favorite! Pot stickers were uniquely good, it's their seasonal special so not in the menu. Our drinks were refreshing and beautiful. We were welcomed at the entrance and our server was wonderful throughout the time being there. Spacious inside, we liked the patio option as our kids wanted to play in grass area, easy access with two entrance on patio. This place is more of a upscale restaurant, nice casual. Price is not too high compared to standard ramen place, but it's more upscale experience for business gatherings, dates, celebrations etc. We will be coming back often, great food and beverages and very friendly staff!

Yelp
I was invited by Clever Koi to return again and hopefully have a better experience. I brought a friend with me and dined in around 6:30 pm on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant was much slower this evening and seemed less hectic overall. Our waitress was attentive and helpful throughout the evening. I ordered the fried rice and asked for kimchi braised chicken as the add-on protein. Once I received the dish, I noticed that the chicken didn't seem to look like it had any kimchi incorporated at all in looks or flavor. The waitress confirmed that the kimchi chicken is normally red, while mine was plain looking. However, the kitchen insisted it was the kimchi braised chicken. Either way, it tasted like plain chicken so the waitress gave me a side of kimchi to eat with the dish, which was enjoyable. The fried rice was overall tasty, but had slightly too much ginger for my personal preference to the point where it overpowered the dish. Similarly, the kimchi has strong ginger flavor which is not traditional for kimchi. Overall, a much better experience in terms of service and ambiance. The food was good overall and I appreciated the opportunity to come back and try a new dish. My friend enjoyed the chicken ramen and we both enjoyed our Paloma drinks as well!

Yelp
I will always rave about this spot. They have great noodles and I love that they have a specialty cocktail menus that that switch up every now and then! But the drinks are where it's at *chefs kiss*

Yelp
Decided to celebrate my new job dinner at Clever Koi in Downtown Gilbert. I wanted something upscale but not black-tie fancy. This place was perfect date night/low-key celebration atmosphere. They had many choices of appetizers. For starters, my table ordered the Tuna Chips; a tuna crudo with a sweet honey marinade over wonton chips. This dish was topped with various veggies like daikon micro-greens. My favorite part of the dish was the herb aioli smeared on the side of the dish to scrape up with the chips. Our entrees consisted of Pork Ramen, Shaking Beef, Fried rice, and Chicken Katsu Sando. The bread on the Chicken Katsu came out burnt (probably just a bad day) but the Katsu was well seasoned, I do wish there were more sauce in the sandwich, it was a bit dry. The Shaking beef was full of flavor and delicious. As for the service, the employees were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. I'm excited for my next visit here :)

Yelp
We made it on over for Saturday night dinner. First time trying this place out and so we didn't know what to expect. The hostess quickly greeted us and sat us down. The inside is really cute and you can see the kitchen area from any seat in the house. They also have an outside patio, we opted for inside this time around. The server was super friendly and attentive and he brought us some water right away. He explained to us the menu / drinks and told us their most popular items. We decided to try out all the top dishes. We ordered the pork belly steam buns, the pork ramen, a chicken fried rice, and the XO noodles. Oh and I also got myself a drink. I think it was the Scarlet Sora? Omg I cant remember the name... The pork buns came out first. This was our first time trying out pork buns and we really enjoyed them. The meat was very flavorful and crispy. My niece felt like her ramen was missing something and she was not a fan of the broth. The grilled chicken for the fried rice was soooooo good. The flavor was on fire. The rice had way too much ginger for our liking and that was literally all we could taste, blah. The XO noodles were a big no for us, we definitely did not like them. The noodles were also a bit too mushy. Service was really good and we appreciate how attentive our server was. I would definitely give them another try in the future..

Yelp
This location has been my go to place to impress out of town guests, however in the last month i have been there three times with each visit more disappointing than the last. I used to rave about the service here but have been put on the ignore list appearantly. So sad that the service has gone bad because I really like the food and drinks here.

Yelp
The restaurant is very pretty the service was good. But honestly, the food was a disappointment. The flavor was literally a bomb if randomness. And a very gross aftertaste. The seasons were not complimenting within the same dish at all and it just was not that good. We had the short rib dumplings (8/10) Chicken miso Ramen (5/10) And the fried rice (5/10) It was not the worst but definitely don't see myself choosing again.

Yelp
Just a little girls night out....we sat at a high top in the bar and both of the bartenders were AWESOME!!! I hadn't been here in years and quickly remembered how delicious the food was. Our favorite was the Chilled Noodle Salad! They have a pretty good happy hour and the service is great.
