A great walk/hike to see the beauty of the beaches and the old mansions in the area. The walk is both easy and challenging and some spots. If you walk the whole thing you will have to traverse areas with rocks and no path. Strong sea breezes keep you cool in the Summer air. Parking can be challenging, it was $35 to park at the beach.

Visited June 2025 | Walked ~2.5 miles The Cliff Walk in Newport is an unforgettable coastal experience that combines stunning ocean views with historic mansions and natural beauty. We spent around 2 to 3 hours walking a portion of the trail, starting near The Breakers and heading south. The views are incredible—crashing waves on one side, and grand Gilded Age mansions on the other. It’s a perfect blend of nature and architecture. There are plenty of spots to stop and take photos or just enjoy the breeze and sound of the water. The path itself is mostly paved and easy to walk, especially the first half. The southern portion becomes rockier and less maintained, which adds a bit of adventure (wear good walking shoes!). If you’re not up for climbing over rocks, you can easily turn back after the paved portion—still very rewarding. What we loved: • Beautiful oceanfront views • Peaceful and not too crowded • Access to several historic estates • Great spot for photos and fresh air Tips: • Go early in the day or closer to sunset for the best light and fewer people. • Parking near Easton’s Beach or Forty Steps is convenient. • Bring water, sunscreen, and wear proper footwear. • Some parts have no railing, so be cautious if you’re with kids or afraid of heights. Cliff Walk is a must-do in Newport. Whether you’re a hiker, a history lover, or just looking for a peaceful seaside stroll, this walk offers something for everyone.

A stunning coastal trail that perfectly blends natural beauty with historic mansions. The ocean views are breathtaking, and the path is easy to follow with some adventurous rocky spots. A must-do when visiting Newport for anyone who loves scenic walks and fresh sea air! Two-thirds of the trail is in easy walking condition, while parts of the southern half involve rougher, rocky areas.

Quite a nice walk around the edge of the cliff. You can either start near the city and walk towards the Mansions or start at the mansions and walk towards the city. Either way, as this a point A to Point B trek, you either have to backtrack or send your family the snag the cars, half way through the trail, as we did 😉 Only covered the one from Mansions to the City. There's a more non-paved part in the other direction.

The cliff walk is a good time. I parked at Eastons Beach. It was 35 dollars to park from about 2 pm until 9pm. I was unable to pick a shorted timeline. Walk from the beach up to the beginning of the cliff walk. The beginning portion is mostly paved walkways. Once you get about 2 miles into it there is some terrain that can be challenging for some people. Once you get past Miramar it consisted of a mix of pathways and larger rocks and it was more like hiking than walking. I wouldn't recommend it for everyone. It ends at Bailey Beach where you can choose to walk through the neighborhood or turn around and walk back to your car.

It is a breathtaking experience! Highly recommend! Views are incredible. There is a small section currently undergoing construction. However, we walked the entire route and took the 67 bus at the end. There are easy then very difficult/challenging parts, but if you’re able, an incredible time!

Beautiful sight seeing! Very interesting to learn about the history of all the mansions along the way. I thought the tunnels were really neat too.

Overall disappointing as the path is narrow in a lot of places and people are unaware of those around them and don’t move over or show any curtsey. The cliff view was fine but not spectacular. The houses, for the most part, are hidden. I would not recommend or repeat it.
