Where do I start? I suppose I'll start with the good. Keep in mind that "Good" is 400% relative. Anyways...The concept of this bar and lounge is pretty cool. It's speakeasy-style. Everywhere seems as if it's a hidden passageway. I liked that LOL
I came on a Thursday. I wanted to go dancing and I heard that the DJ that spins there on Thursday nights was there. Chubb E Swagg. Apparently, this was a college crowd. That didn't bother me one bit. I chatted with a few other patrons and enjoyed the vibes. The music was right. The atmosphere was on point, but then, there was the staff. The bartender, of all people, ruined my experience at this place. Sadly, I don't think management/the owner(s) will do anything about it. I've got a feeling they already know that she is rude, unkind, unprofessional, nasty, and straight up childish.
The bartender on Thursday, March 7th was Diamond D.--According to my receipt. My friend and I (another woman) watched her for close to ten minutes ignore us and other women patrons to dance for the men at the bar. Already half-naked (the uniform), all she needed was a pole. Yes, it was that bad. When I was finally able to get her attention, it was as if I was spoiling *her* time at work by trying to order drinks. This happened each and every time.
I specifically ordered premium liquor and I see that there is something called "Velicof" on my receipt. I said to myself, "WTH is a 'Velicof'? And I *know* I didn't order that, 'cause I prob wouldn't even be able to pronounce that while drunk!". Shout out to Google for telling me that VelicoFF (it's spelled wrong in their system S M H), is a cheap, rail vodka. Now, why would I order that, when I've been ordering Grey Goose all night? So there, Diamond took it upon herself to charge me for 1. Something I didn't order, but 2., Something inconsistent with what I've been ordering all night, as reflected on my tab/receipt. This happens at many poorly managed establishments, where the staff is encourage to discriminate and disrespect patrons.
You know what else happens at establishments like this? Fraud. Stealing. There was a 20% gratuity fee added to my tab, without my knowledge, and I know it was sneakily done, because when I asked for the print out of my receipt (Since I had a tab, she was ready to just swipe and have me sign), she gave me attitude. Never in my experience in bars in D.C., New York, LA, Miami, Baltimore--anywhere, have I experienced a gratuity fee. This fee was not explained to me and I feel slighted, like I've been a victim of a service worker trying to get over on me. This has happened to me before. It's a shame. That person was arrested :)
Anyways...I wouldn't recommend that anyone come to this place. The DJ I mentioned is bomb and I suggest finding where else he spins to keep yourself from experiencing subpar, discriminatory service. That's what I did. As I said above, I've got a feeling they already know that their staff sucks. Velvet Lounge (Also on U St.) is awesome. I have 0 problems there.
