7 Train-Themed Cocktail Bar You Need to Visit

"Because trains run like clockwork (at least in theory; lookin’ at you, Amtrak), this sedate bar inside the Fairmont Royal York is centered around an elegant clock tower, once an actual railway station clock. But the concept works for other reasons. Biding time in the wide-open public space of a hotel lobby can feel similar to waiting in a train station, and it’s a nod to the presence of Toronto’s Union Station, just a block away. Imagine long, narrow carpeted aisles that suggest walking through a rail car, plush settees and angular, gold-trimmed chandeliers. Innovative drinks include the savory Full Moon Martini, with vodka, “Roquefort mezcal” and sherry vermouth. The bar opened in 2019, timed to the hotel’s 90th anniversary." - Kara Newman

Clockwork at Fairmont Royal York offers a five-star afternoon tea experience, perfect for celebrating special occasions like Christmas, birthdays, and Mother’s Day of course since my mom is a big fan of afternoon teas. It is one of my favorite afternoon tea place in Toronto. The setting is elegant and timeless, making it a wonderful place to unwind and indulge in a luxurious tea service. The tea selection is well-curated, featuring a variety of flavors to suit different preferences. Served in beautifully crafted tea wares, the presentation adds to the refined experience. The food is a delightful mix of classic and innovative flavors, with each item expertly prepared, high in quality, and absolutely delicious. From delicate finger sandwiches to beautifully crafted pastries, every bite feels special. The service is excellent, with attentive staffs ensuring a seamless and relaxing experience. One particularly thoughtful touch is the small souvenir given on special occasions, making your visit even more memorable. Always check their latest tea set online, given its reputation and quality, reservations are highly highly recommended, as this afternoon tea is in high demand and they served on weekends only. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone or simply treating yourself, Clockwork at Fairmont Royal York is one of the best places in Toronto for an elegant and unforgettable afternoon tea.

I had such a fantastic experience at Clockwork Champagne & Cocktails in Toronto! The place is a real gem, tucked away in the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, and it’s the perfect blend of elegance and warmth. From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the luxurious ambiance plush velvet seats, soft lighting, and the beautiful live piano music in the background made it feel like I was in another world. The cocktail menu is impressive, with creative drinks like the “Meet Me at the Clock” that I highly recommend. The service was top-notch, friendly, and attentive, without being overbearing. It’s the kind of place where you can truly relax and enjoy the moment. I came for a casual drink, but after seeing their tea offerings, I’m already planning my next visit to try their afternoon tea service. The idea of sipping on champagne with delicate scones sounds like the ultimate way to unwind. I can’t wait to go back for that experience I have a feeling it’s going to be just as wonderful as the first time. Highly recommend it if you’re looking for an elegant spot to treat yourself!

I had a wonderful dining experience here. The tea, food and atmosphere are to die for! The afternoon tea set menu is well curated. A few Items that stood out for me were the scones, egg salad sandwich and the strawberry panna cotta. My new favourite place! The staff were hospitable and considerate. Lois was a delightful hostess ☺️🫖

Came here for girls outing. The high tea is located in the lobby of the hotel. It was rather spacious, the atmosphere was really nice, the staff were friendly. The tea tasted great. The high tea came with lots of food. The sandwich bread was a lil dry tho, and the pea tart tasted a bit oxidized. Otherwise all the other items tasted great. It's quite pricey high tea so i did expect more high end finger foods, but overall it was a nice experience.

Google
Boujee, instagram-worthy place for high tea. The food and tea is nice. But nothing mind blowing. The big price is mainly for your spot to sit at the Fairmont 😂. They also have live music, it can make it a little hard to chat with friends. But overall still a great vibe!

Google
Great experience overall! Delicious cocktails. Food is more small plates, but exactly what I expect to see at the bar. Service was great too.

Google
I had heard so much about how good afternoon tea was here and decided to go to celebrate a birthday. I have been to a number of places for afternoon tea so am comparing to my other experiences. Firstly the service was over the top and the staff were very attentive. The presentation of the food was really nice although I don’t think it matched the delicate theme of afternoon tea. The tea selection was limited and they were happy to replace mine when I didn’t like the one I had chosen. The scones tasted good but were very small. The sandwiches were interesting in looks, flavours and textures. There were two I didn’t like but tried them all. Overall I feel it is overpriced for what you get and I much prefer The Drawing Room at the Prince of Wales hotel in Niagara on the Lake which is $40 less than the cost at Clockworks.

Google
Loooove the atmosphere here everytime I visit. Hightea is a must do if you’re here on a special occasion. The scones were soft and warm, the mini sandwiches and dessert weren’t impressive though, panna cotta was the only decent thing from the pastry options.. Teas are, indeed, yummy. Wish they could let us smell it before choosing the tea, like how they do it in epoch bar.

Yelp
Highly recommend the Afternoon Tea option at Clockwork. Served Saturday & Sunday, you have a great selection of tea from which to choose, and a good serving of savoury sandwiches, and delicious scones and other mini desserts. Also included is traditional English double cream & jam. Even more enjoyable is the festive themed afternoon tea in December! The service is friendly & the ambiance is always elegant! It is one of the higher priced afternoon teas, but as it's at a hotel, that is generally to be expected here. Most hotels offer an alcoholic beverage with the higher rate but only tea is included here.

Yelp
Came to the clockwork champagne bar a few times during our toronto stay! Met this lovely bartender can't remember her name but I do remember Elyse she was absolutely amazing. The entire Royal york Staff were incredibly amazing and superb! The amaretto Sours were fantasy. Chicken ceasar salad was deeelish and super fresh my Babaganoush dip was my favourite here. Service, food and vibe was amazing and had a blast here getting great recommendations. This place is definitely worthwhile !! Cheers

Yelp
Some friends and I were in town for a weekend trip and wanted somewhere nice to enjoy some drinks without it being too loud or crazy. Clockwork was a short walk away and located in the Fairmont Royal York lobby. There was a bit of a wait for a table, around 30 mins which wasn't too bad. I loved the dim lighting and beautiful clock bar. There was also a dj playing vibey house music. Drinks were pricey but worth it! I had the Meet Me At The Clock which was really good & beautiful. My friend had the speciality cocktail of the night which was one of the best things I have ever tasted. They really know what they're doing here. Worth a visit for sure!

Yelp
Sorry guys I forgot a food & bev pic! Lol long travel day & this was a rush stop. Located in the center of the historic Fairmont Royal York hotel this cute & classy bar lounge with live dj is lovely. I had heard coffee espresso martinis were sweet & bearable for non-coffee/non-alcohol drinkers, so i tried it. Not bad! Definitely had to force myself to chug it to prevent wasting the $18 but at least I can say I tried it. According to my friend who frequents this drink, it is the best one ever made. So, if it's your thing or you want to try it for a first time, try it here! I ordered the spicy chicken bites from the small plates menu. They were good. Nothing spectacular but good. As mentioned on a previous post I think Canadians have a thing for mayo on fried food, the chicken bites were served with a random side of mayo. Again I tried, again I couldn't get with it. Lol. Go, enjoy!!

Yelp
I enjoyed my time here. I would really like to give this sport a 4.5 there were aspects that I was not fond of. First we were a group of 4 and they sat us on two parallel couch's, which would have been fine. Except the table they served us on was a low coffee table, which is nice for lounging. But high tea not so much. The host was just okay. I got there early she showed me to the table, I mentioned that I wasn't found of it. She showed me two other tables and I said I would wait to see what the other guests in my party thought. When we can back 4 minutes after our reservation time all of the tables were given away. The table service was wonderful! The servers were lovely and caring. To be honest I did not think the tea was top notch. I asked for cream of earl grey. It tasted more like orange pekoe. I am kind of a tea snob. So I know the taste of a good black tea. I asked about their tea sourcing and they use a house brand called lot 35. It was nothing special. Most of the sandwich were exceptional. I wasn't fond of the chicken style pate. There were too many contrasting flavours, and the textures were soft on soft. The scones were very small and delightful. The cranberry was my favourite out of the two. The fruit compote was nice, not as sweet as I might have liked. The deserts made up for the lack of sweetness in the compote. There were was a very diverse selection of deserts. I left feeling very content & not over full. I would go back!

Yelp
We came to Clockwork for their Festive Afternoon Tea. Lobby and Clockwork were decorated nicely. Lots of different sized trees, ambience is a 5/5. Service was alright, no issues but they were busy. And there is a 1.5 hour seating limit. We ended up sitting there for a little over 2 hours but still feel rushed. Had to pack some food to go. Food was alright. One savoury item I really liked was the salmon on toast and one sweet item I really liked was the candy cane macaron. Everything else was meh or at most decent. Food for me was a 3/5 Scones were okay too. They had three festive tea selections on top of their regular tea. We tried the milk and cookies and the eggnog tea but couldn't really taste much flavour in either. I find their teas lighter than other places. Also it god cold fast and no tea light to keep it warm. $89 pp, $118 after tax and tips. It was okay If I am being honest I went to check out the ambience but if you care more about the food you may want to try some other placea

Yelp
So prices are a little higher than other places, but the atmosphere alone is worth it. The old Fairmont hotel is amazing. I had a cider, but several in the group had fancier drinks and were happy. I chose the sliders for done food, and they were good. Another member of the party had the fries and she exclaimed they were the best fries she had ever had! As for the service? At a place this fancy, you would expect excellent service, and that is what we got. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Today's afternoon tea!! It was ok till it wasn't. Ambiance: it was all about the ambiance. Beautiful cherry blossom tree right in the middle of this champagne cafe. Kind of magical. High tea/ afternoon tea is $150 per person, reservations required. We came at the same time as the blue jay game and forget parking, even turning into this street was next to impossible. We were about 15-20 minutes late. Valet saved us time for sure ($60 valet)! Now the lounge is gorgeous. Our table was gorgeous. I was excited to catch up with my girlfriend who lives here. Haven't seen since Covid. We didn't have to pick ( it was a set menu after all), but still felt so rushed for some reason. There were a few servers: some were nice but one older Asian lady: she's so rude. Every time she comes around, just awkwardly rude and interrupt for no reason. We just had to pick the type of tea. No reason to rush! Or be rude, And champagne! We got champagne. Still. I ended up taking most things home because, 1; I'm a slow eater. 2; too much food. 3: too rushed to sip, savor and eat. Scones with different butters were good though. Overall, beautiful place, food. Service didn't match the decor or the food. Bummer for a very rushed, no refill on tea or anything after ordering afternoon tea.

Yelp
I pre-ordered the Mother's Day afternoon tea set from Clockwork for pickup. The basic set was $98 and served 2 people. I also ordered a few add-ons including a 6 piece macaron set and a 6 piece scone set. They made the pickup as easy as possible. We pulled into valet where there were staff checking off pickup info. My order somehow got a little mixed up since I was the only person on the list with only a first name...I'm up there with the one name celebs like Prince and Drake now lol. The tea set was in really cool packaging. I think one of the iconic images of afternoon tea is having all the goodies lined up on their tiers. The set came on a 3-tier cardboard set complete with a cover. Super cute! I kind of wish it came with a menu so you could tell what you're eating like in those big chocolate boxes. The set came with different jams (complete in little mini jars!) and creams as well, and again I felt like a menu would have been nice to help guide what to put things on. There were some pieces that were kind of disappointing. Some of the tea sandwiches with bread were sort of dry. My guess was that they had to prep early so the bread kind of dried out while it sat. The curried chicken croissant sandwich was very tasty though. The meringues were light and fluffy. The scones were all very good, both the sweet and savory. As for the add-on macarons, it was 3 macarons (vanilla, pistachio, and coffee) and 3 macaroons. They didn't specify that macaroons came with the set so I was a little disappointed to see them in there. The set did come with teabags. There were 5 in total of different kinds. One thing I noticed was that the tea was really smooth. They were all Lot 35 brand which is the official purveyor of teas for the Fairmont chain of hotels. The only real blips were that I had an add-on that they forgot. It was the 4 piece Fogo Island Shrimp Roll. It sounded really good so I was super sad that they didn't have it. The good thing is that I was able to easily reach the Fairmont. They weren't able to easily route my call over to Clockwork. I was able to tell them about the error and they passed along my message to the restaurant. I received a voicemail from them with an apology and information that they already processed the return. I received an email about it afterward. They took care of it really quickly which I was very pleased about!

Yelp
One of my favourite afternoon tea spots in Toronto. It is absolutely perfect. The service is excellent servers are very professional, kind and explained everything along the way, even explained every single food item we received. Each food item was high end and well balanced between sweet items and savoury. The taste was absolutely amazing, from the food to the tea and mimosas. The silverware and plating was absolutely beautiful, and the location of the restaurant in the fairmont was perfect. The ambiance was lovely with piano music in the background. Overall my favourite afternoon tea and will definitely be back!

Yelp
Lively lobby bar located in the Fairmont Royal York. Somehow the seating and seasonal decor makes a vast open space feel very intimate. You'll know you are there when you spot the clock (they really lean into the theme here). My drink of choice for the evening was their "Meet Me At the Clock" with the frose ice sphere in the center: gorgeous presentation and equally tasty. Like their other bar, I thought the menu good, albeit random. I dined on fries, salmon tartare, and torched tuna, very very delicious and perfectly portioned, but didn't pair well with the drink. The service was impeccable - we were well taken care of all night as if we were the only ones there. We stayed until the clock struck midnight, also very on theme.

Yelp
This is such a cute brunch place! The food was good, and they have a huge drinks menu. I love the space and overall vibe of this outdoor terrace. There's also cover in case it rains. Great place for drinks or brunch to catch up with some friends. It's on the pricier side since it's a Fairmont pop-up but I really enjoyed the experience!

Yelp
I love this place for so many reasons! If you haven't been to the revamped and renovated Rotal York hotel you must visit soon! There's always a new and beautiful display in the lobby with seasonal decor that I love. I absolutely love coming to clockwork as there is a unique vibe here. They have after work cocktails that go into the late night hour and live DJs as well. If you're looking for afternoon tea, they have a beautiful tea service on the weekends as well. They have a unique menu of cocktails of their own as well as the classics. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Clockwork is a cute patio bar&restaurant located in Fairmount Royal York. They have beautifully decorated spots for photos, delicious cocktails. And the home fries here is super good!

Yelp
THEIR PATIO IS SO PRETTY!!! honestly just come here to sit outside - they have a huge flower wall which is perfect for photos, lots of greenery so you feel a bit more secluded from the sidewalk and a stunning greenhouse with chandeliers hanging. perfect for a girls brunch which is most of their clientele I got the salmon eggs benny - good portion and it filled me up. standard and solid wasn't mind blowing but what you want - bread was a little chewy but it was made up for the good runny eggs and lots of hollandaise sauce. We were never rushed during our meal and the server was very nice and attentive. We were able to really enjoy the patio and chat.

Yelp
A rock-solid hit. Loved the show-stopping design, loved the crisp service, loved the sink-into-the-luxury seating, even loved the fabric coasters. There's a reason why this is one of the top 50 bars in Canada. It's in the middle of the Royal York lobby, so not the place for sharing intimacies, but groups of two or ten will make merry in the open-concept setting. My benevolent hostess sprang for the signature Meet Me At The Clock, which I happily sipped and savoured. She partook of Tock of the Town, which was very well received indeed. I would happily return to try the tasty tidbits on food menu. Think that I can get the hostess to invite me for a return trip?

Yelp
This place is instagram heaven for anyone who cares. LOL. We had a fantastic server - during these covid times it can be hard to come by. The food was great and the cocktails greater. The patio is so pretty and prime for people watching which is a nice bonus for dining here. We had a great time. The Royal York has outdone themselves with this gem. Their fries are really good - for someone who is looking for an opinion on the actual eats.

Yelp
We absolutely loved it!! The Veuve Clicquot, brussel sprouts, shrimp roll and steak were amazing!! Mike was an awesome waiter. We can't wait to come back..... in a few weeks. See you so Mike!

Yelp
When staying at the Royal York, best bar they have. Library bar use to be the best and now this has certainly taken its place. The only downside if you want a table you must wait. Anywhere from15min to an hour depending on when you are staying. Raptors or leafs game, the later is your wait. Food is quite nice. Staff are generally attentive.
google avatar

Michelle K.

Yelp
This was a pop up patio at Fairmont so it is a nicer patio with quite pricey drinks. The food was amazing, nothing to complain about however service is a bit slow. The flower wall is great for photos but other than that, the patio is quite small and not as grand as I thought it would be as seen on social media. Good experience but probably wouldn't come back on purpose.

Yelp
Upscale bar in the Fairmont Royal York lobby. It's a comfortable spot for a drink or meal. Menu has limited options but I really enjoyed my burger and salad. Cocktail selection is good as well as the selection of beers, wine and spirits. Attentive and friendly service.

Yelp
My friend and I went to the Clockwork on a Saturday. It was a spontaneous decision but luckily we found seats. The atmosphere and interior design are nice, seats are very comfortable and the staff is kind. We tried their sliders, pork belly and their salmon tartar. Aside from that we had wine and cocktails. Everything was great EXCEPT for one thing. The only places I had eaten food at on that day was CNE vendors. Prior to the Clockwork I had Tiny Tom's donuts and a Japanese street style burger. That's it. Next morning I had stomach issues without going into detail. I obviously have no proof for the following claim but I doubt that any of the food I ate at the CNE caused the issues. Since the salmon tartar was raw I can only imagine that to be the culprit. This is a suspicion I cannot medically back up but the timing seems suspicious. We will go back but will avoid the raw food or food altogether. Still a great place for drinks.

Yelp
Perfect spot for a date night or Girls Night Out! Amazing cocktails by the talented Rus - ALL are top notch! Delicious eats - highly recommend the Reign burger & Lobster Rolls! Beautiful Terrace that is perfect for photo-ops

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, upbeat environment, but not too much. Professional and pleasant staff. Wine selection requires better choices. Overall experience is very good. If you need to grab a quick drink and small snack - you are in a right place.
