21 Must-Try Steaks in Houston

"This Montrose newbie, with dark and dramatic interiors, is helmed by executive chef Erick Anaya who brings more than 20 years of steakhouse experience to the table. Settle into one of the cozy red banquettes, and prepare for a feast. Start with deluxe deviled eggs topped with fried shrimp and bacon jam or baked oysters on the half shell, before splurging on the 16-ounce Delmonico steak. If you love Gatsby’s, try the group’s follow-up restaurants, Gatsby’s Seafood and Gatsby’s Grill." - Brittany Britto Garley, Megha McSwain

to start we had a reservation and waited 10 min before they had a table ready. the del monico steak was good. my bf ordered the wagyu with a blue cheese crust and he loved it. the lobster bisque had a bit of a kick but it was good. the tomato salad was great. the sides were 1/3. meaning we liked one out of three. we had the corn which was excellent. the brussel sprouts could have been crispier. the mashed potato was way too watery. the dessert, 2/10. it was a cheesecake that wasn’t amazing. the service really brought down the star for me. the server kept us waiting way too long. at one point my bf started doing duolingo while were waiting between meals. there’s only so much talking you want to do before you start wondering where the dessert it. and for the server to forget it was my birthday was crumby. the table next to us got the little birthday candle with their dessert so you know it’s something they do but just forgot.

First time to eat there. Upon arrival we had a seating issue, the staff addressed it quickly and with good grace. The floor manager throughout the night checked on us and ensured we were enjoying ourselves and our dinner. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable on the menu and wine list. Overall the staff was great. We enjoyed our appetizers, entree's, and desserts. We will definitely go back. Great restaurant.

My husband and I came for a birthday dinner with friends here during Houston Restaurant Week. Our starters: - Caesar salad | He loved it. We both love a good caesar salad and this was caesaring! - Calamari (up charge) | Big portion and love the mix of the peppers as well. Entree: - Delmonico 16 oz (up charge) | Worth the upcharge. Please get this. Please lol - Salmon 10 oz | Great option. I had it because i’ve been crazy salmon and it was cooked and seasoned well. Al la carte sides (not included in restaurant week): - Cream spinach | Very creamy. My order. - Mac & Cheese | Highly recommend. - Fries | They were good but not worth it. They were like big spuds with parm on top. All huge portion ^^ Dessert: - Chocolate Cake | If you enjoy dark chocolate, so good. If you are not a chocolate fan, do not get. - Sherbet | Very good After our experience last night, my husband and I are adding this restaurant to our “date night/ celebration list”.

I took my girlfriend here to celebrate us being together for a few months and I wanted a fancy place with a nice dinner and a unique atmosphere. The atmosphere was definitely elegant and modern, exactly what I wanted. We started off with wine, which was something we both enjoyed. However the Caesar salads tasted like cheese, it was so overpowering and the lettuce was soaked in dressing. Gatsby could benefit from cutting back on the cheese and using less dressing. We also selected the calamari which was so salty it tasted like I was eating a salt block, very unimpressed and disappointed. My girlfriend enjoyed her salmon but the lobster Mac and cheese was underwhelming especially considering the price. I had the bone in steak and I was disappointed in the taste and the shrimp topping which was overcooked and tough. The highlight of my steak was the truffle butter. I also ordered the broccoli which was delicious. We finished our meal off with cheesecake which was pretty close to perfect, especially since Gatsby wrote I love you on the plate for me. It could use a few more strawberries but other than that it was very rich and smooth. I had high expectations for Gatsby that simply were not met, so sadly I can not rate it better. But as I mentioned it does have some elements I enjoyed but overall the quality for the price was inadequate.

Food: PHENOMENAL! i got the lamb chops and they where savoring! My son didn’t even speak as he enjoyed his chicken! My boyfriend enjoyed his meal as well, barely sharing with us (lol). The sides where delicious, by far the one my tastebuds enjoyed the most was the creamed corn! Can we get seconds please! Service: Jared our server was very professional, cordial, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. he recommended the creamed corn. We arrived 15min early prior to opening, unfortunately the valet did not immediately meet us to exchange keys. He did verbalize we where in the business prior to opening. After speaking to him, he went ahead and parked our vehicle. We stood in the bar area/waiting station for like 10 min prior to getting acknowledged (reason why i put 4 stars in service). But after, Jared our server made it a top notch experience. Atmosphere: Oh the beauty of this place is undeniable. The beautiful red chairs with black decor. it’s like I was walking on a Christian Louboutini atmosphere. The cute little lamps gave a wonderful and romantic ambiance. overall, a great experience (minus the initial encounter).

Just an awesome experience from top to bottom. Drinks were stellar. The sautéed Shrimp and the Baked Oysters were insane. I had the porterhouse with lobster and shrimp with truffle butter… SO GOOD! Not to mention our server Big Jess (Jessica) was the best server I’ve ever had. She was fun and gave great recommendations. I went in expecting this to be a 4 star place and came out just wowed by the whole experience. By far my favorite steakhouse in Houston.

The experience was suboptimal. Food was salty and scorched plates are never a good sign. Oysters are sold 4/serving instead of half a dozen or dozen. Overpriced food and watered down drinks. Sides were the best part of this meal. I got loaded mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts. About halfway into my meal I was munching on someone’s blonde hair found in my food. I immediately threw up! The manager was reasonable enough to remove all the hot food from my check and we still paid about $170. I had such high hopes for this place and was let down tremendously! Overall will NOT be returning for another subpar meal. Would NOT recommend!

I went here with my sister for her birthday and we really enjoyed it. We did not have a reservation but we went around the time they opened on a weekday. The manager was nice and we were able to dine quickly with no wait. Our server was very nice; he recommended the deviled eggs. I don’t really like deviled eggs but theirs are delicious. This is a great place to go for a date or special occasion.
