my boyfriend made a reservation here at opening and the host/owner? was extremely welcoming and friendly. The servers were attentive to our questions and gave us recommendations as well as specials for the day. I have trouble eating spicy food but the spicyness was tolerable. I forgot the names of the dishes but they were delicious (see photos)!!! Overall, the vibe was romantic and fancy. Would come back to try more dishes!

Just finished eating here, the 30 walk from my hotel in midtown was worth every minute of it. I can see why they are so highly rated. I got the chicken korma with coriander rice and garlic naan. It was the best Garlic Naan I've ever had. A fluffy thicker naan, made fresh in house, they don't advertise it on the menu but can make a chili garlic naan upon request. The korma was a rich and creamy North Indian korma, very tasty. Planning to make another visit before my trip is done.

Google
What an amazing dining experience…Wow, Wow, Wow!!! From Syed greeting us at the door, to the warm, inviting interior, Cloves did not disappoint. The waitstaff was quite attentive and the ambiance cozy. And from the first bite of our appetizers (Samosas, Shrimp Balboa and Butter Garlic Shrimp…I know, sigh…we couldn’t decide so we got both and glad we were indecisive). The rich Malbec and the bold Mango Lassi with Spiced Rum offset our exceptionally tender Chicken Jalfrezi and Chicken Korma beautifully. Though satisfied and unable to eat another bite halfway through our entrees, we couldn’t resist the deliciously sweet Gulab Jamun. Can’t wait to return. Would love to give this gem more stars. See you soon Syed!

Google
Great Indian food! I ordered the mango lassi, samosas, garlic naan, and chicken tikka masala — all were very good. The atmosphere was clean, modern, yet comforting, and the service was excellent. I highly recommend!

Google
Great service by the owner Syed. Restaurant was booked and although we had reservations it looked like it was going to be a long wait for the table. Syed the owner took it upon himself to make sure we did not have to wait long. Great drinks .. lamb chops were amazing as were all the chicken dishes. Was so good that we went back the next day for lunch prior to leaving for our flight.

Google
10/10 experience! Syed was so sweet it was like a little piece of home. Each piece of food felt home cooked and delicious. I can not emphasize this enough it best meal I have had in awhile!!

Google
I was recommended this place by an Indian friend, whereas another said it’s alright. Though I would’ve loved to try various dishes, I’m glad I at least had their signature fig lamb dish with naan. The fig is mixed into the sauce so it doesn’t really taste like fig but pops in your mouth. It was on the saltier side but quite good. The restaurant is tightly packed yet homey, prone to staff and diners dropping things due to how hectic it is — but it was still a good time. Based on the one dish I had, I would try out other Indian restaurants in the area first, but I wouldn’t be opposed to coming back.

Google
Cloves is one of a kind! All the food was amazing, and the service was impeccable. Syed was so kind and welcoming, it made the experience all the more.

Yelp
Traditional Indian menu, everything we ordered was beautifully cooked and tasted amazing. The lamb Rogan josh was particularly good, meat was very tender, sauce was spiced but not overwhelming. The Aloo Gobi was also very well done. Simple, elegant decor, friendly, attentive staff. I love Indian food and if I lived in New York this would be my go-to restaurant!

Jay S.

Yelp
This place was great. Food was amazing and a nice ambience. Service was also attentive without being overbearing. For a table of 1, this can be hard.

Jonathan M.

Yelp
Fantastic service, great food, very calm and enjoyable atmosphere and lighting for a dinner date.

Yelp
This newish Curry Hill-adjacent restaurant might be our current fave sit-down Indian dinner joint in town. After my second meal here, I can confidently say that it's a worthy addition to our date night rotation. During my most recent visit, I was once again impressed with the superb service (the kind that's magically present whenever you need something, but otherwise leaves you alone), monstrous portions, flavor-packed dishes, and a sophisticated but unpretentious ambiance. I've yet to have a dish I didn't enjoy, but special shoutouts to the palak paneer and garlic naan. Their prices are quite reasonable, as well. With two veg dishes, a side of rice, and a bread, our total rang up to barely $60 -- and we had roughly 50% of each veg to take home for leftovers! We had some initial reservations about the acoustics, but I ascertained that the extreme volume was probably due to our window seating during our first visit. On hand one, it's nice to have a view of the foot traffic passing by along Madison Ave., but the glass bounces sound back pretty aggressively. When seated in the middle of the room, we didn't experience this effect and were able to enjoy a delightful conversation with the pleasant hum of background noise.

Yelp
Enjoyed some good indian food here. The ambiance was lovely and the service iexcellent. The food was perfectly fine- not 5 star but still good. The paladin were crisp. The chicken tikka masala was tasty but not nearly as hot as i ordered. The salad was fresh and generous and the fish was good. There are definitely better indian restaurants in the city but if you are in the area this place is fine.

Yelp
Beautiful ambience and truly delicious Indian cuisine. I went with a staple and ordered chicken tikka masala but opted for the lemon rice. Amazing! My husband ordered chicken kerala which he loved and was a little spicy with his rosemary naan

Yelp
Finally visited the restaurant. It was so fabulous. The dahl was amazing. we have the tandoori fish, the saffron shrimp, and the tandoori chicken. All of it was fabulous. The vegetable dish we had was phenomenal. It had paneer and bell peppers and was spiced perfectly. a great experience. We also met the owner who came over who is super nice and very accommodating.

Yelp
Very good service, food was very customized to our taste. Nice to have a fit for family restaurant in city.

Yelp
This is an unusually good Indian restaurant. They have several unique dishes. I tried the lobster and it was exquisitely spiced. The owner is warm and takes pride in his cuisine and his restaurant. I'd visit again any day.

Yelp
Very attentive service, great food, and a nice atmosphere. I stopped in while in town on my own, so didn't have the chance to try as many dishes as I would have liked; but all that I did try were very good. The samosas were piping hot and nice and crispy shell, and filled perfectly with no air pockets. They had a bit of heat to them (not hot peppers, just a nice subtle heat, I believe from cinnamon) which was unexpected but a pleasant surprise. The lamb biryani was very flavorful and tender. The raita was well prepared and not watery. Will definitely be back next time I'm in town.

Dee W.

Yelp
The food, service and ambiance was phenomenal! We are from out of town and came because it shows 5/5 stars. The reviews were accurate - this place is absolutely wonderful Would highly recommend! Syed was a wonderful host!

Yelp
Fantastic food. Amazing service. Classy ambiance. Highly recommend Syed and his crew. Thanks for the wonderful meal!!!

Yelp
My family and I came in from California and have never tried Indian cuisine before. I must say it was probably the best choice we made the whole trip! The manger/ owner was so welcoming and made sure our food was up standard (PERFECTION)! We went and had a glass of rose well we waited and staff was very knowledgeable of their wines on hand. We had placed our order over the phone and when we got home the food was still hot! Wish I had pictures but we ate it all by the time we thought about it!

Yelp
I have tried Indian food across many countries and many places in the US as it is one of my favorites, however, I must say, by far the food at Clove's and their service is at another level. The quality of the ingredients used in every dish we ordered are of very high quality. All the staff we interacted with were very attentive. Overall, if yelp awarded 6 starts, this place would be worth that and more. I highly recommend it and will definitely come back!

Yelp
My husband and I have been visited this restaurant a few times now and the quality is just the best. It's definitely the best Indian food we've ever had, the restaurant is clean and tastefully decorated inside, and the service is wonderful - very pleasant staff :) 100% recommend for an amazing Indian food experience in NYC!

Mariel V.

Yelp
Lunch special was very reasonable-- lots of food and delicious too! Service was very attentive and atmosphere was quiet, somewhat formal.

Yelp
I work in the neighborhood, and based on the glowing reviews, I decided to give this Indian restaurant a try for lunch. In my opinion, the service was very good, but the food was mediocre. The interior of the restaurant is very nice and clean. The tables, however, are spaced too close together for my comfort. The bathroom is immaculate. The lunch menu is misleading. It states that there is a lunch "buffet". There is no buffet. Their "buffet" consists of you picking an entree off the menu which comes with rice, pita and a vegetable dish. I ordered the so-called buffet and it was disappointing. I ordered the fig chicken. The portion size was minuscule, consisting of 3 small chunks of chicken in a bland sauce. I could not taste any fig nor see any pieces of fig in the sauce. The portion size of the vegetables and rice were similarly very small and bland. The "buffet" came with 1/2 of a small plain pita. No desert was included. I left hungry.

Michael F.

Yelp
This is an Indian restaurant that can be said, simply, to have a Chef. We've been there 4-6 times, introducing new sets of our friends. They all marvel at the perfect balance of spices and sauces. The Fig Lamb is a "must have" each time. Likewise, the palak paneer (spinach with Indian cheese - often a "meh" in other restaurants. Their Bindi Baji (an okra dish) is outstanding. We'd like even more vegetable dishes. The service is impeccable, always attentive but never obtrusive. Pour from the bar are generous and the cocktails creative. We haven't ever had a really great Indian restaurant in our Chelsea neighborhood where I've lived for over 40 years. Dhanyavaad (Hindi for Thanks), Cloves.

Yelp
I've found a great Indian restaurant amongst the dozens of takeout spots in Curry Hill. Wonderful Indian food here. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and Peshawari Naan, to go. The sauce was thick, flavorful and rich (not creamy and "shiny" like a lot of meh CTMs). The Peshawari Naan was incredible - a very hard bread to find and this was really solid. The CTM came with white rice. Serving sizes are BIG (I split in half and the half was still a LOT). They weren't busy at all when I entered to pick up - which makes me think the restaurant is new. Don't let that put you off. This is a great Indian. I really hope it doesn't randomly close like a lot of new restaurants.

Yelp
First time I've left a review on yelp but this is worth it!! Friendly family run restaurant spotlessly clean with lovely ambiance. Enjoyed a great old fashioned, amazing appetizers (tandoori broccoli - wow), and amazing dishes, breads, and dessert. Amazing tastes and beautiful plating. Staff constantly checked in and we enjoyed multiple nice chats with the co-owner who checked in personally. Best Indian I've food I've had in quite some time (everything seemed freshly prepared)! One of those special and enjoyable dinners that we will remember for some time. Thank you!

Yelp
A delightful addition to the NoMad neighborhood, this authentic Indian restaurant has made its debut at 66 Madison Avenue, and it's worth raving about. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by an exceptionally friendly staff who guided us through an extensive menu brimming with an array of Indian delicacies. The drink selection didn't disappoint either, offering an excellent line-up of cocktails, beers, and wines to complement the spices and flavors. We kicked off our culinary journey with scrumptious samosas that set the bar high for what was to come. Our main courses of Tandoori Chicken and Lamb Chops were flavorful and cooked to perfection. To round out our meal, we opted for some Garlic Naan bread, Papadams and Basmati rice, which proved to be the perfect companions to our mouth-watering entrées. We were tempted by the dessert menu but we ran out of room so we will save that for our next trip. We were told that the management behind this spot also owns a few other successful restaurants. All in all, it's a dining experience you should try..

Yelp
I'm British. I'm from London. My friends own a curry house. I know Indian food. This place is the best Indian Food I've had in 12 years of living in the USA. The service is excellent, too. This is worth every single penny.

Yelp
Stumbled upon the gem of an Indian restaurant tonight. The food was terrific and the ambience wonderful. The service was solid as well. I am looking forward to coming back. I felt like I was treated as family and there is nothing better than that.

Miinno N.

Yelp
We know Indian food and confidently we give 5 stars. It has an extensive menu -including variety types of Indian breads and rice dishes, too. We so enjoyed different flavors of different dishes. All items of its tandoor sampler were juicy and we all loved them. The service was good - attentive and polite staff. Ambiance of the restaurant was good - classy without being pretentious. We had a birthday celebration, which they brought a nice dessert plate for. We can say that this will be one of our go-to Indian restaurants in Manhattan.

Yelp
My first trip to NY and wanted to try Indian food. I would highly recommend this place. The food was amazing and so was the service. Everyone was very friendly and catering.

Jim K.

Yelp
Having enjoyed Indian food on two continents, we found Cloves to be exceptional. The serving staff was attentive and helpful. The meal had subtle nuances in each dish. There was an extensive menu and a comprehensive wine list as well.

Sydney S.

Yelp
Amazing food. The samosas were great, I would give a 10/10. I also loved the paneer tikka masala and the shrimp with spinach. My only wish is that the course would come with rice, instead of having to order it as well. Other than that, highly recommended!!

T A.

Yelp
Three of us dined at Cloves for dinner on May 31, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The first aspect that anyone would notice upon arrival is the ambiance, which is classy with the clean, white tablecloths, yet not fussy or overly formal. Despite the fact that they seemed to forget about one of our appetizers that we had to ask for, the service was top notch. Everyone was polite, and the owner, Syed Haider, came to our table personally to ask how we enjoyed our meal. Speaking of the food, it was all incredible. We all split everything so we had the opportunity to try as much as possible, and we all enjoyed both the food and the wine. A must try!

Yelp
I love the food, the service, the ambience! The owner and his entire staff are so friendly, hospitable, helpful, and patient. They really welcome you. I have been there about four times now since their recent opening. I've had various items on the menu and they were very delicious! Immaculate restaurant with beautiful white table and fresh flowers on every table. A contemporary gorgeous bar with fresh flowers as well! Excellent service and they really care. This is about my third ofr fourth review! Did so entirely on my own and with pleasure each time. Barbara

Yelp
I can't list enough superlatives for the staff and owner of Cloves Indian Cuisine!! I love spice, my companion is spice adverse. Syed had his kitchen make me a fabulous Chicken Madras. It was tender, full of flavor, and had all the heat I could handle. I loved it. While I was throughly enjoying my entree, Syed had a variation of the Ginger chicken prepared for my companion. She totally enjoyed it and was very happy it was not spicy. It was served with sautéed broccoli on a bed of rice. A very enjoyable night at a very special place. A great addition to the neighborhood. Thanks Guys!!! see you soon.

Alexander G.

Yelp
Went to Cloves with my family and we were treated to delicious and authentic Indian food with a charming host. The range of spices and flavors were a broad palate of both traditional dishes with a slightly modern take. Original specials are available and the prices are reasonable. Will be going back.

Shilpa P.

Yelp
Great new place! Entrée's were pretty good. Really authentic. We had bhendi masala, vegetable jalfreji, and yellow dal. All were really yummy! Rotis were great too. Appetizers could have been a bit better. Service was really top class. Loved the ambiance.

Sunder S.

Yelp
Great Indian food, nice ambience and friendly owners, team. Loved everything ! Coming from the SF Bay Area, I don't lack good Indian food, this was still worth writing a review about.
google avatar

Chuck B.

Yelp
Well done! My takeout order was prepared perfectly. Great flavors and just the right spice level. The owner and team are welcoming and attentive while I waited.

Rachel C.

Yelp
We happened upon this gem while traveling to NYC. They've apparently been opened just over two months and the food was delicious. We ordered samosa, butter chicken and rice plus garlic naan and we were not disappointed. I wish it had been more than two of us so we could have tried more dishes. The prices were very reasonable and the service was attentive without being annoying. The decor was classic and made for a very pleasant dining experience. Wish we lived locally so we could come often and help Cloves get established. It would be a shame to see this newcomer not make it in the competitive restaurant market. If you are local, do yourself a favor and give them a visit.

Yelp
amazing food and hospitality by the owner , with a blend of indian and pakistani heritage. The daal, achari aaloo/ gobi , aaloo mattar all so tasty ! The italian pineapple and coconut gelato were mind boggling. Kulfi out of the world. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Terrific. Terrific food. Terrific service. The owner was nice and gave us free dessert. Try this place. You will likely enjoy it.
google avatar

Kai G.

Yelp
The food from this establishment was superb, and it included special dishes that other indian restaurants don't have. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the ambiance of the restaurant was relaxed and calm. I recommend the lamb chops which are marinated for 14 hours, and the palak paneer which was superb. Paired with the garlic naan and the goat curry, you have yourself a feast of delectables!
google avatar

Carla B.

Yelp
BEST Indian food I've ever had and what makes it even more amazing is the service that you get as soon as you walk in. We were welcomed by the owner, Syed. He treated us like royals and made sure we were happy with the choices of our food. Our server was very friendly and helpful as well. This place exceeded all expectations and this will def be our go to restaurant whenever we are in a mood for Indian food.

Yelp
The most AMAZING Indian meal! My friend has been telling me about this place for a few weeks. My daughter and I don't live in NYC, but were so excited to try it on our visit this weekend. Dinner here was one of the absolute highlights of our trip!! The atmosphere was great! It is a lovely place and everything is beautifully thought out! The owner greeted us at the door, and was so friendly! I felt like we were royalty, and he made us feel so special and well cared for. He even steered us toward dishes that were especially good that night. And...wow, he wasn't kidding. EVERYTHING we had was AMAZING! I love Indian food, and this was the freshest, and tastiest Indian food I have ever had! The Atlantic salmon appetizer was simple with just a little citrus and char flavor, but oh so fresh and delicious! The samosas were flaky and full of flavor, and not at all oily. The owner heard us talking about lassi, and brought my daughter a mango lassi as a a surprise. Wow!! It was so fresh and tasty! I will definitely be ordering one for myself next time! The garlic naan was light and full of flavor! We had the lamb Josh Rogan...which was super tender and delicious. The chicken biryani was a great balance of flavor with just enough heat! And the butter chicken...had sauce that I could have licked off of the plate!! Amazing!!! For dessert we each had a honey ball...which was a little piece of honey soaked heaven! The entire meal, from start to finish was a delight for all the senses! Everything felt special and tasted SO, SO good. I am excited about having leftovers tomorrow, and can't wait to come back to the City for another fantastic Indian meal at Cloves!

Ray N.

Yelp
Ambiance, service, and food was amazing. Each dish was fresh, very tasty and the presentation was just as good. Anyone looking for delicious Indian food should definitely try Cloves!

R K.

Yelp
We had an excellent meal at Cloves! I am Indian and always on the lookout for good Indian food but also with an ambiance and service where I can take guests less familiar with Indian food. Cloves was fabulous and the food was flavorful without being too hot. We all had a great time and I strongly recommend it.

Platinum 1.

Yelp
I am Indian food connoisseur. And Cloves was just amazing. I wish I could give this restaurant six stars. It really kills the competition in NYC, having eaten at most of the toniest restaurants. Across all three categories - taste, service and cleanliness - it was a 10+. Taste: I ordered three dishes, the mix grill, seekh kebab and saag panner. Not only were the flavors nuanced and delicate, but everything tasted super fresh. The saag paneer, for instance, wasn't creamed to death but still had the creamy and soft texture. You could tell they used fresh spinach. The paneer just melted in your mouth. All three dishes were out of this world. Service: Raju, who manages the place, was professional like no other. Incredibly meticulous. You could tell other servers were very well trained. They were attentive. Just one example: When pouring my beer or water, they held the glass from the bottom end. Cleanliness: not only was the restaurant clean, but the bathroom - a key litmus test - was completely remodeled and spotless. Most Indian restaurants lack hygiene, and the bathrooms is where it first manifests. Not Cloves, they nailed it. Finally, prices were super reasonable. All in all, this one gets six stars. On, one more thing, the interior design of the restaurant was done with a lot of thought.

Yelp
Great ambiance, wonderful service, and the food is perfect. The attention to detail here is amazing, even in the to go bags.

Todd L.

Yelp
Definitely one of the best Indian restaurants I've been to on the upper west side. Every dish came out flavorful, well presented, and colorful. The service is unmatched and owner was present the entire time in case we needed anything. If you're looking for good traditional Indian food, this is the place. It's a hidden gem that won't stay like that for too long. I'll definitely be back.

Kate H.

Yelp
Really had a lovely dinner with my husband and two teenagers. The owner is indeed super welcoming and attentive as others have mentioned. You can tell he wants this business to do well and to please customers. We had samosas as an appetizer, and shared chicken tikka masala, chicken madras (my favorite) and tandoori chicken. And of course- naan! I recommend skipping the plain as the garlic naan was delicious and not too garlicky. I love a restaurant experience with a very professional staff. You should try it!

Zachary B.

Yelp
Exceptional service and food. Visited and was absolutely overjoyed by the authentic food. We were treated like family and the food was some of the best indian i've ever had. The place is new but they have completely figured it out! Waiters and staff were extremely pleasant and helped us make good choices. Ambiance was perfect for any sort of dinner occasion. It was one of the best and most special meals i've had in the last year, couldn't recommend more!

Karthik R.

Yelp
This place was fantastic. Great ambiance, the food is the standard North Indian fair (not fusion-y) but very tasty and rich. The service was fine too, the staff was attentive and changed the music when we asked. I plan to go back soon
