Best Restaurants and Bars Near the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival - Eater Seattle

"This modest Mount Vernon Mexican spot — with a branch in La Conner — is located in a residential neighborhood east of downtown, and has plenty to offer. Diners can get tacos and burritos, but the larger entrees — bacon-wrapped prawns, carne asada — are the most rewarding, best washed down with any of the potent margaritas. Open for takeout and limited dine-in." - Matthew Lombardi, Maggy Lehmicke

Google
A perfect little spot for delicious Mexican food! We stopped by after a walk with Diego and instantly loved the cozy, colorful vibe — it smelled like spices, grilled tortillas, and good decisions. We started with crispy tortilla chips and fresh guacamole — smooth, zesty, and just right. Honestly, I could’ve eaten a whole bowl of that guac by myself. I ordered enchiladas and they were packed with flavor — warm, comforting, perfectly sauced, and nicely portioned. To top it off, I had a glass of sangria — fruity, refreshing, and perfect for a summer afternoon. Friendly service, great atmosphere, and super tasty food. 📍If you’re in Burlington and craving Mexican — COA is totally worth a stop. ⭐ 10/10 – would definitely come back (especially for the guac and sangria combo!).

We had a fantastic experience here! The food was delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented — every dish exceeded our expectations. What really made the evening special, though, was our server, Adriana. She was warm, attentive, and incredibly professional throughout the entire meal. She made sure everything was perfect without ever being intrusive and offered great recommendations as well. Her friendly attitude and genuine care really elevated our visit. Highly recommend this place — and if you can, ask for Adriana, she’s wonderful!

Google
I found the food and drinks to be amazing. Very authentic nice portions and great service. Will definitely be back. It is also a chain of restaurants I will have to check them out as well!

Google
We had a large group reservation and they forgot about it. They did a great job getting things set up, excellent service. Good drinks. I'd go back anytime. Great job

Google
The food we had did not taste like any Mexican food I've ever tasted before. I think they forgot to put the spices in it. I didn't even see a jalapeño pepper anywhere. Granted the guacamole was very good and the service was good .

Google

Google
Absolutely amazing meal And Cadillac margaritas. We shared the bacon wrapped shrimp with green sauce and carne asada. Plenty of food for the two of us. Delicious down to the rice and beans. The green sauce was perfect don't skip that! Great staff and atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Mind Blowing! Excellent food, excellent service, and extremely knowledgeable of gluten allergies and sensitivities. I ordered 3 Enchiladas with a side of rice and beans. This dish was beyond words DELICIOUS. I have never tasted such delicious rice and beans! I ordered an extra side to go! The iced tea was even delicious! I look forward to my next visit!!!

Yelp
We stop at this place after our visit to Deseption Pass. The food was delicious. I ordered 3 enchiladas y the poblano sauce was very good cooked and made with real ponlanos. I'm planning to be back because it was very worthed place.

Yelp
The Mocajete is fabulous, comes sizzling in a large black cauldron pot and smoking, so appetizing. What a fun item and tasty too! Food came out so fast House margarita is great. $10. Came with a dehydrated citrus which was so good, crispy and sweet. Just perfect

Yelp
Oh, the mole! Soooo good! Layers of flavors spicy and a little sweet. Tastes like someone's grandmother made it. Wow. The fish tacos were also great. Not fried, you could really taste and enjoy the fish. Not your ordinary beans, white beans, tasted cooked from dried. This place is the real deal. Wish we had a Mexican place this goid in Bellevue!

Yelp
It's been a hot minute since I visited COA. In fact, the last time I was there they were still in their old location up on the hill. They're now closer to town, on Riverside near College Way. The restaurant is larger, and the decor is on point. Walking inside to enjoy some lunch on a lazy weekend, my daughter and I loved their festive decor and light, bright atmosphere. We were seated quickly, and our server arrived to bring us some drinks. I ordered a negra modelo because, well, Saturday. Everything on the menu sounded good, but the molcajete was calling our name. At $39 for two people, it even felt like a good deal (though maybe a bit extravagant for lunch). It soon arrived in the signature "volcanic rock" bowl that this dish is known for. The contents, a rich stew made of different kinds of meat, was still bubbling it was so hot. The top was adorned with strips of grilled cactus and some seriously jumbo shrimp. It also came with fresh tortillas and a plate of beans, rice, and all the fixins. This was so delicious! My only regret was there was no possible way we could finish it. Luckily, they had takeout containers at the ready, so it made a good breakfast the next day. This would definitely feed at least 3 people. Maybe even 4! I'm glad COA is back on my radar, and I look forward to returning soon.

Yelp
The three of us came to COA for lunch after a long time. The interior of the restaurant felt better than before. Our server is a good service. We ordered Chile Relleno, Los Tacos and Three Cheese Quesadilla. After that, they brought me warm chips and salsa. This was so delicious and I couldn't stop eating it. I tasted three dishes. The most delicious one was Chile Relleno, the second was three cheeses Quesadilla and the third was Los Tacos. I just realized that if you look at the menu, Chile Relleno is Mount Vernon Farmers Market Winner 2014. There was also a group of children celebrating their birthday in the restaurant, which seemed to be fun. When you are near here, stop by here and try some delicious Mexican food.

Yelp
The restaurant has nice decor but the flavors were too experimental. My burrito had two kinds of sauce on it. It also had pimento cheese which I thought was out of place. The fish tacos were bland. The enchiladas were served in a bowl with the beans and rice on a separate plate so you can't mix your food together for the perfect bite. Also the bowl made it difficult to cut the enchiladas with your fork.

Yelp
Went here around 12pm with my sisters yesterday, and we were able to sit right away. Chips and salsa came out first as an appetizer which was complimentary. We asked for only guacamole before we order, but they gave us guacamole and the chips, which we didn't expect it. We ordered enchiladas, molcajete, mango margaritas, and House margaritas. Everything was so good. The portion for both dishes were generous, and they were well seasoned. Both the Enchiladas and molcajete were served with rice and pinto beans. The corn tortillas were soft which I loved when I took bites. The molcajete had lots of meat in it. There were chicken, beef, and shrimp. The sauce with mozzarella cheese made it taste perfect. Plus, this dish with tortillas was amazing. As the menu states it serves 2 people, the portion for the molcajete was a lot. For the margaritas, both were so good and the sizes were quite large. I don't know why, but the mango margaritas tasted more like pineapple than mango. But I really loved it though since I love pineapple as well. For the house margaritas, I could taste the alcohol more than in mango margaritas. It was also sweet so I loved it as well. The ambiance was so cute and pretty. The service was okay:)

Yelp
The vegan(ized) burrito was good but I wish the filling had vegetables instead of just beans. Also the mole sauce was too sweet. Eventhough they said they can veganize almost any dish on the menu, there wasn't any dish with vegetables in it. My partner loved his chicken enchilada with creamy poblano sauce.

Yelp
I will definitely be back to COA after my first lunch there. Everything about the service experience was perfect. I was seated immediately, ordered quickly, the food came out fast too! My server was very friendly. I have to admit I was spoiled by my Mexican restaurant in north Seattle. I had the Chile Relleno and it was good. It's just not quite what the other one is. But I do want to come back and try the burritos. And one day I will cajole someone into joining me and splitting the Molcajete!

Yelp
Very cute and open restaurant with big and yummy portions! Ordered the chicken chimichanga and the fish tacos and both were very large portions. the rice and beans were AMAZING here and highly recommend getting any dish with these as a side. The fish tacos were build your own which was nice, chicken chimichanga was FULL of chicken! The service was super friendly and everyone gets a free order of chips and salsa!

Yelp
The staff was very friendly and politely genuine the drink I had was amazing the mole enchiladas were so flavorful and tasty the mole was a perfect consistency and Jada little spicyness and another thing that pleased me was you get to pick 3 different enchiladas most restaurants you have to choose all the same this was great because it was my first time here and couldn't decide I got chicken beef pork all were delicious the rice and beans were delicious all the food was hot chips and salsa great as well will definitely return and recommend this restaurant it's absolutely delicious and has authentic flavor

Yelp
we tried the Burrito Loco and El Conquistador! portions are huge here, food is amazing, and service was great. they greet you with chips & salsa. I recommend going after you visit the tulip fields. btw theres parking behind the building.

Yelp
Very busy on Sunday morning. The place smelled amazing. I got the enchilada with green sauce. The green sauce is to die for! Would recommend getting the tres enchiladas for just a couple of dollars more, the enchilada was smaller than I expected.

Yelp
Tasty Margarita Menu - Interesting Charges - Quick Service Came with a group of five for dinner, we were in and out in less than an hour! Our food came fast, we loved our margaritas, and fajitas made for two meals. Restaurant was clean, hostesses seated us quickly, and waitresses were personable and friendly. We appreciated their recommendations! My only complaint is their choice in charges. They provide the first chips and salsa for free, after you are charged for each side of salsa and each cup of chips provided. Small cups of sour cream and salsa on the side are charged as well. Prices on the menu are a little misleading, if you dish says "with your choice of meat", depending on the selection, each type has a charge to add.

Yelp
This place was incredible and I'd already like to go back to try their drinks and all the other delicious items I've seen online! The ambiance was nice and lively and they even had beautiful tulips for center pieces. I had the slow roasted chimichanga and it has this amazing poblano cream sauce which was so flavorful! I took my man's because he said it was too spicy :) I thought it was perfection with the amount of cream and spice! The pork was fantastic and I enjoyed the beans and rice as well. My boyfriend ordered the carne asada burrito which was huge! His mama ordered tacos and everything was amazing. Don't get me started on the chips and salsa because we threw down on a few servings. The salsa was so flavorful and chunky and delicious. The chips were warm and fresh and I even dipped them in the poblano cream sauce. Amazing!

Yelp
My girlfriend and I met at COA for lunch. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Outdoor covered seating with propane heaters is available. COA offers lounge seating with a full bar. Large parties can easily be accommodated in the lounge by putting tables together. The food menu is entertaining with all the local businesses. Menu is much more limited than other Mexican restaurants. The first round of chips and salsa is complimentary. Additional rounds cost $5.40. We sipped on a bottle of Negra Modelo for $6 while deciding on our lunch choice. My friend chose the Taquitos Fritos for $13.50: crispy corn tortillas filled with chicken, rolled and fried. Served over greens. Topped with poblano crema, mango Pico de gallo and guacamole. I chose the Nachos for $14.50: crispy corn tortillas topped with beans, melted cheese, jalapeños, Pico mango, sour cream, queso fresco and guacamole. Serving size is generous; however, the nachos became too soggy for my taste. Service was friendly. Overall, COA offers a much more limited menu with steeper prices than other Mexican restaurants. I was not overly impressed on my first visit.

Yelp
Amazing mexican food, especially the carne asada plate and enchiladas with green poblano crema sauce and mole sauce. Try the Molcajete for 2 people, which is excellent. This time i got two crispy tacos w carne asada, rice & beans and it was very good. House made chips and salsa are addictive too.

Shivani K.

Yelp
This restaurant was beautiful. The servers were attentive and always making sure everything was going fine and tasting good. The food was AMAZING, I definitely recommend the enchiladas with the green sauce, it was creamy and delicious. This place is a good find! In the middle of mount Vernon this was definitely one of the best Mexican food I've had in the greater Seattle area!! 10/10
google avatar

Billy D.

Yelp
The whole experience. Great food. Excellent service. It's always good here. Can get crowded around lunch time but it's okay. They are still prompt with the service. This time I had the Chimichanga with shredded beef. It was very good.
google avatar

Cole D.

Yelp
Good meal for $27. Guac and chips is totally worth it. Incredible Guac that was smooth and well blended. Beautiful display. I got the burrito Chiquito which was massive. For $16 you get a big burrito that is well sauced. The pork inside is good. A little dry but very tasty. The horchata was good. Nothing insane but very refreshing and cold. Service was speedy. They ask you about pico de gallo and Guac right when you sit down and I didn't know they weren't free, especially the pico--which was incredibly bland. No salt. Not flavorful at all.
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
The prettiest and most flavorful Mexican food ever. So good. Great service and very careful if you have food allergies.
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
One of the better perhaps best Mexican restaurants in the Mount Vernon and Burlington area. It's pretty popular, but the service is fast and the food is delicious, chips and salsa is good and the nachos are great.
google avatar

Becky K.

Yelp
The food was too pretentious to be authentic, and way overpriced for what you got. Parking is very hard to come by and there was not handicap parking available so we had to walk a few blocks in the rain. (I'm handicapped and my mom is 81 so the walk was a big deal.)
google avatar

Meenashree C.

Yelp
On our way to tulip town, it is a decent place for good food. It is definitely not authentic Mexican. We ordered the guacamole and chips. It was really tasty. Coming to the main course, we ordered a street burrito and chimichanga. Every item on the menu can be adjusted to a vegetarian version. Finally, ended the lunch with churros and might I say it was really yum. All I wish they would have added the same zing to the entrees. The interiors were clean and service was prompt.
google avatar

Marco A.

Yelp
Great food and service. Not a food chain. The reason why it has so many good reviews is because it is really good
google avatar

Ankita Rao M.

Yelp
We tried the vegetarian enchiladas, chimichangas, and taquitos, and everything was packed with flavor. Definitely a great choice for vegetarians--highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious. Atmosphere can be a bit loud at times. Not overly expensive. Great service. Nice tequilla selection.

Yelp
We may never be in Mt. Vernon, Washington again, but if we were we would most certainly come back to COA Mexican Eatery and Tequileria. It was absolutely delicious. Our party of 7 enjoyed the chips and salsa (heavenly...like a salty molé sauce), guacamole, cheese quesadilla, crispy tacos, chili relleno, street burrito, chimichanga, and burrito chicquito. Everyone's food was spectacular. The portions were huge. Most of us did not finish our plates! Everything was very fresh and well-seasoned...even the beans were something special. The service was also stellar. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Maddie L.

Yelp
We stopped by to try COA for lunch because we were craving Mexican food and were in the area. Nothing but amazing things to say about this place! The free chips and salsa were delicious. The salsa was perfectly seasoned and the chips were warm, fresh, and crispy. We also ordered the guacamole and it was wonderful as well. For our main dishes, we ordered a carne asada burrito chiquito and the carne asada y camarones. Absolutely amazing food! My burrito was tasty, I do wish that I got all of the different sauces on the side because it was difficult to eat since it was a wet burrito. My boyfriend ordered the bacon wrapped shrimp for his dish and we both loved it. So so good! I also ordered a mango margarita and it was a 10/10. The service was amazing as well which made our experience even better! Our server and the food runners/bussers consistently came by to check on us, refill our waters, take plates away, etc and were so sweet. I love the ambiance here. It's such a cute and fun spot! Will definitely be back here the next time I'm in the area - highly recommend this place!!

Yelp
Amazing food and fantastic service! This restaurant is very clean, well decorated and very welcoming! Perfect for a date night or night with the family. Everything on the menu looked amazing! We had the chimichanga which was amazing and the fried ice cream at the end was epic!

Yelp
We took a day trip to Mnt. Vernon just to give this place a try after a friend recommended it. Service was wonderful from the moment we arrived all the way through the meal. They bring 1 round of courtesy chips and salsa and we ordered the guacamole as well. For our entrees we ordered the chili relleno, and the skirt skate fajitas. Their steak is very well made and my wife loved the chili relleno. The dining room was very clean and offered plenty of space between tables which was great for retaining some semblance of privacy.
google avatar

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Amazing food and drinks. Stopped by while waiting in between my son's basketball tournament and will be back again!
google avatar

Anna H.

Yelp
Food is excellent as always but a bit pricey. Highly recommended the carne asada loco burrito. It is very large and great for splitting if you want to share that is. The burrito is covered with beautifully done mole and poblano sauces. Yum! Checkout was speedy even though they seemed busy and the place was clean.

Spencer ..

Yelp
Food is good but overpriced. Would never go on a day that isn't taco Tuesday where they have a special.

Yelp
Having lived in California for the past 30 years and originally from Austin, TX, my expectations for a Mexican restaurant in Mt. Vernon, WA were adjusted. Intrigued by some of the menu items, we decided to give it a try, and it turned out to be a great choice. All their sauces are homemade, and the verde, mole, and salsa were absolutely amazing. We started with the ceviche, which was very good, and tried the three enchiladas: chicken, beef, and pork, with a mix of verde and mole sauces. I ventured to try their skinny margarita despite being very picky about margaritas, and it was unlike any I've had before, with seltzer water making it clean, pure, and refreshing. The service was excellent, and if I find myself in the area again, I would love to return and try the chili rellenos.

MJ B.

Yelp
Nice place! Nicer looking inside that it looks from the outside. Fast service! Chips, salsa and house margs were great. We both had the chicken enchiladas with poblano crema, loved the crema! Great place to stop on the way to tulips as well--this was our second year doing so. We'll be back!

Jacinto L.

Yelp
Came here on a work trip.Good food, reasonably priced, good service, clean establishment and friendly staff.
google avatar

Yuki Y.

Yelp
Stopped in for a late lunch after many recommendations. We had the guacamole which was amazing. Entrees included carne asada and tres enchiladas. Both were flavorful and deliciousness. Awesome frijoles and Spanish rice too. Definitely see what the hype is all about. We'll be back.

Yelp
Coming from Los Angeles on a business trip stoped by "COA" Mexican restaurant food was amazing !!! Got the 3 enchiladas and man they did not disappoint. Love the atmosphere definitely coming back.

Jessie M.

Yelp
Our waitress Patricia was super sweet and efficient. She made our experience chill and comfortable. The food was off the hook. Not your run of the mill mexican food restaurant. Definitely getting fresh, higher quality food for a shockingly reasonable price. We drove here from Arlington because we have heard so many good things from friends. They did not disappoint, we will for sure be back!

Yelp
(Not me previously reviewed the wrong COA . Pasting my OG review here instead:) LOVE Coa. Living in Seattle, this one is pretty far for me, but I always think about their molcajete. think of it as Mexican hot pot lol. It's SO GOOD. Chicken, carne asada, cactus, shrimp, jalapeños, and the savory sauce--it's an experience. I've been here multiple times and it never missed. Great service. Great vibes. Absolutely great food. I'd highly recommend whenever you're in the area.

colleen s.

Yelp
AWESOME food, large selection and HUGE portions. Esteban (sp) and staff are so nice and personable. Definitely love this place for a nice casual or fancy dining experience. They are there to accommodate their customers for sure. Thank you for another great experience. We will be back for sure
google avatar

Jordan G.

Yelp
Absolutely hands down AMAZING!! The food is immaculate and the customer service was excellent! Completely worth the price and the atmosphere is so fun! Family friendly and fun!! Worth a visit for sure, will be back and is now our favorite Mexican restaurant!!

Betsy E.

Yelp
Love the modern aesthetic and the food was delicious- enchilada with verde sauce was lick-the-plate good. And nice to have fresh beans (not refried). Decent kids menu ($8 per) - wish they had crayons. Beware that pico de gallo is an extra charge (wish they'd mentioned that when suggested as we sat down). Overall great and I'll be back!
google avatar

Susan C.

Yelp
Great! Really wonderful Excellent guacamole, super chile relleno! Interesting sauces, Well served and presented. Friendly an unpretentious, yet gourmet and beautiful.

Yelp
Best Mexican food I've had in Washington !!! I've had enchiladas, the molcajete and a Cadillac margarita. All amazing

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow! Great food, service, and setting--COA has it all. Last night my boyfriend wanted me to make a decision about dinner, and I chose COA based on a friend's recommendation and Yelp reviews. My boyfriend started complaining about driving a half hour to Mount Vernon, but after all was said and done, he was glad that we did. We ordered the three dip appetizer to accompany the housemaid chips, which were served warm. This always makes me happy. My boyfriend's favorite was the bean dip. Mine was the guacamole. The pico de gallo included mango, which was a lovely touch. I ordered the carne asada with the camarones a la diabla. The shrimp blew my mind. The carne asada was good. The beans that were served alongside the entree were very good. My boyfriend ordered the burrito loco with steak. That deep fried tortilla with something special. As I mentioned earlier, I was a big fan of the beans, but he did not care for them. Service was absolutely outstanding from beginning to end.

Yelp
Loved the vibes, energy, food, drinks and customer service. Will be coming back soon to bring friends and family.
