I have been coming to Coach House for the better part of 30 years now and I will say that the new updates are INCREDIBLY disappointing. I will start off by saying that service was great and while it felt a little new, it was sincere and it's always appreciated.
The food now is absolutely atrocious. The original Coach House diner recently rebranded itself as a steakhouse and interestingly enough got rid of one of their best steaks from their time as a diner, the prime rib.
I came here and ordered three appetizers, the mushroom croquettes, calamari, and the garlic shrimp. The appetizers are fine, good even but not worth the price.
I ordered, what I was told is, a 14oz rib eye medium rare and I was highly disappointed by the very thin, very pale steak that came out. Sending it back to be seared would have certainly meant it'd be overcooked but having this kind of steak from a "steakhouse" is ABSOLUTELY a no go for me. The cream of spinach was bland, and gelatinous. The mashed potatoes were good but just acceptable, again, for a steakhouse.
The steak itself tasted good but it's a far cry from what would be expected of a steak from a steakhouse.
The desserts and drinks were actually good and I think this is where this place shines.
In the end, this place isn't a steakhouse. It isn't a diner. I don't know what it is or what it's trying to be, but it definitely needs work.
