Coastal Roots Farm

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We went to Coastal Roots Farm for a field trip, and it was such a wonderful experience! Our guide, Sunshine, was amazing — she was so knowledgeable, patient, and engaging with the kids. She made learning about the farm, plants, and animals both fun and educational. The walk around the farm was beautiful, and the kids had a great time exploring and asking questions. We left feeling inspired and grateful for the experience. Highly recommend visiting — especially if you get Sunshine as your guide!

I stopped by for the first time yesterday and got the world’s juiciest, best cantaloupe. It was little, so I wasn’t sure how much flesh would be inside. I was pleasantly surprised this morning when I cut it open. The cucumbers I got there were also amazing. Fresh and crunchy. They also had fresh lemongrass, Thai basil, and lots of other different types of very fresh organic veggies. Go support this farm!

Coastal roots is a magical place where you always learn something new, see something new, or meet someone new. The space is beautiful, the people are warm and welcoming, and more importantly, you always leave feeling fulfilled one way or another.

Yeah! The Coffee Cart is now open Thursday, Friday and Sunday 8:00-3:00! I stopped by and ordered an iced Matcha w/oatmilk and my friend got a Latte - both delicious and the new seating area gives you a great view of the farm. The Farm Store next to Coffee Cart is also open and has some fun CR swag and handmade items. A perfect retreat spot to enjoy a coffee and pick up some organic veggies 🥕 🌽 🥦 🥗

Amazing! All of the food is fresh and organic, and the events are just amazing. The community is welcoming and kind, and there is always something new! The coffee cart is fresh and healthy, and overall best farm in SD!

This was an AMAZING place to visit! You won't be disappointed! Update April 2023: This was a great place to do a Field Trip! The staff was understanding, engaging, and flexible!

The real gem here, is the Butterfly Farm. Endlessly captivating, invigorating and mesmerizing. Should be on your bucket list for each season of the year.

Our friends told us about this farm and we were honestly blown away. We were visiting North County and kept saying the whole time how much we wish we had a place exactly like this closer to us! The farm stand is absolutely adorable. I love the concept of making fresh food accessible to everyone and anyone. It's such a great mission. The highlight for us was the nature play area; my little one could have stayed there for hours. They've done a fantastic job creating an outdoor experience that's genuinely fun and engaging for kids of all ages. I also loved the "lead experiences" they host every hour. We joined the chicken feeding, which was a huge hit thanks to Daniel! We felt very safe throughout our visit, and the security team was incredibly helpful and a special thanks to Stephanie for that. We're already looking forward to our next trip back!

I cannot say enough good things about coastal roots farm! Four years it has been a favorite spot of mine to pick up fresh organic fruits and vegetables. The farm has on Thursdays and Sundays a pay what you can farm stand. This has been a tremendous help to the community, especially when Covid hit. When purchasing items it is private so other people cannot see if you need to use the opportunity to purchase items at a discounted price or at full price. There are also many educational opportunities on the farm. Camps for kids, after school programs and other events are available throughout the year. The farm recently opened a coffee cart as well. Swing by and get fresh coffee along with your fruits and vegetables. There are also chickens on the farm and fresh eggs are sold every Sunday. If you like to eat the rainbow, or try new vegetables, this might be the spot for you as well, depending on when you arrive at the farm, you can see the vegetables coming in just after they have been picked to be sold.

They have a great local farm stand here on Sundays with so much variety each week and abundance!!! The produce here is so fresh, delicious, and all organic. I appreciate what they do for the community and their pay-what-you-can model is amazing. Please check it out and support if you can.

Always love volunteering here and everything it stands for. The volunteering is physically laborious but it is worth it to support our mother Earth.

I went to Coastal Roots Farm as a chaperone for my child's field trip. The staff was attentive and kind. The parking attendant was friendly and guided me to my group. The kids participated in various activities and even made a snack from all of the produce that was grown in the farm. Overall it was a fun experience and we can't wait to go back as a family.

Great place- pay what you can and donate when you can. Fresh, delicious produce. My kids love the place, too.

Really nice farm stand next to the Butterfly Garden. Lots of parking. Nice fresh seasonal produce. A few things you can't find in stores. I got a watermelon radish and some baby eggplant, both delicious and unique. There s bagged spring mix. They also have farm fresh eggs. Nice little place to visit or shop regularly if you're nearby.

Went on a field trip w my sons school. Very educational and beautiful atmosphere. The kids really enjoyed this experience!

This is a wonderful produce stand conveniently located next to a butterfly farm we were visiting. We stopped in and picked up some freshly harvested kale and collards. There was a nice variety of produce available and the attendants were extremely helpful and friendly. Definitely looking forward to stopping here again.

Flavorful, fresh, organic, non-GMO fruits and vegetables. Lovely gardens and ample parking.

My son's school had a field trip here today. It was a lot of fun! There were three stations set up: 1. Nature snack, which consisted of teaching the kids how to harvest chard or Dino kale for the taco shell of their snack. Kids learned what to look for when selecting a healthy piece of chard or lettuce. 2. Worms! Kids were given a small pile of compost they had to sort through and separate by worms, soil, plants and other matter. Kids of course just played with the worms 3. Take home a plant. Kids learned how to plant a seed in their own pea pots. They planted sugar snap peas! They were also given paper bags to transport their potted plants so soil and seeds wouldn't end up all over the car. At the end, in the back they had a play section for the kids to run around and burn as much energy. The farm also gives away produce for up to $30 to those that cannot afford to pay. For those that can, the produce can be purchased by donations. Very awesome place and will be coming back here again!

The bi-weekly farm stand offers a bounty of freshly harvested produce. Typical greens include kale, chard, mustards, dandelion, amaranth, spring, gem, romaine. Other standards are radishes, eggplant, onion, tomatoes, beets, carrots, zucchini, squash. Various seasonal herbs are available. Supply depends upon the harvest. A very positive presence in the neighborhood!

Such an amazing place to go and get some perfect veggies and take the kiddos to expel the amazing surroundings and best days to go are Thursday andSundays. I can't wait to go back again. Btw all the people that work there are so sweet.

These guys are my goto for fresh veggies - twice a week without fail. I am almost hesitant to post this review as I want it to be my little secret, but the people that run this place are such good people and give so much back to the community, my less selfish side wants the world to know about them. They do have limited options, but that is a good thing as it helps to not get into a rut. Also, everything is so fresh, you will not let anything go to waste because the flavors are so amazing. Love you guys and the work you do. I wear my Coastal Roots Farm hat everywhere. Looks way better than a MAGA hat. :-)

My family visited Coastal Roots Farm Tour. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable about farming practice, operations, research, and the overall philosophy of the farm. The produce is excellent and fresh picked. They have a pay as you can afford model, so you can get top produce at very reasonable prices. It is awesome to see a thriving initiative that's purpose driven and not solely based on profit. This farm adds a lot to the community. Overall, we had a great time experiencing the farm and asking questions. Highly recommend.

What a wonderfully healthy farm and business! We'll be going back often! Staff is fantastic! Prices are very reasonable and if you are poor, you just pay what you can! I wish they were open daily!!

This hidden produce gem is in the heart of Encinitas. I volunteered at an event to pick excess produce for needy military families so I saw many aspects of the farm. The farm is well maintained as a CSA and donates regularly to the community. Their produce is now certified organic, and they have pretty much everything you could ask for. We picked strawberries, fairy tale eggplant, beans and tomatoes. The produce then goes to the prep and cleaning station where it is sorted for quality. The farm stand has prices, but it's 'pay what you can'. I watched them pick flowers and expertly craft them into bouquets to sell at the shop. It was amazing how a colorful menagerie of blossoms was organized into symmetrical bouquets. Chickens are kept onsite as well, and they are working on their organic designation for the eggs. The food is fresh, and you know all aspects that went into the process. Reduce you carbon footprint and support local!

Very happy to have the farm down the street. Not too happy with the polite but not so friendly security guard who explained to me while the public event is advertised until 730 the cut off time to get in is 7. Not a very organic experience.

They are really here to help the community and have really helped me stay healthy, especially in this time of need. The staff are unbelievably nice and we actually really look forward to our time there as it feels like a mini get away

Great farm stand! This place is right off of Saxony so it's pretty easy to get to. Their produce is great and the farm stand has a pay-what-you-can model, so that everyone can have access to organic produce. Overall, the pros are great produce, nice people, and supporting the farm means supporting a good cause!
