Cochecton Fire Station

Made an early afternoon pit stop on our road trip back home from Livingston Manor after hearing some locals sound the siren at the Cidery near Callicoon. Your appetite will be reduced to rubble at this tapas-style 'backcountry bar' (as per Men's Journal), but there's not enough water in the Delaware to put out the blaze of innovation lit by these backwoods libations, fresh herbs and fruit abound. I would call it a secondary-road speakeasy, with creative and well-executed cocktails that pair nicely with all the food options from the equally-balanced menu. Being an old firehouse, you'll want to cozy up with the love of a lifetime in the equally rustic couches that surround the indoor fireplace. The bartender is perched behind bottles of tinctures that scream alchemy, and they have plenty of freezer and takeout options for another night. To stoke our own embers, we went with the white bean bruschetta, pickled veggies, hasselback potato, Cuban corn, and the Butcher's bacon. Top-notch ingredients, well-seasoned and thoughtfully prepared, we'd order each item again, if there weren't so many great choices to go back for. Awesome spot!

THE BEST COCKTAILS!! This is a must visit. The bar is super cool, staff are all amazingly friendly and the food is wonderful I honestly don’t know where to start with the cocktails. They are the best I’ve had in my 35 years of drinking many of them! Wonderful! Can’t wait to come back!

Carly was THE BEST We have seen behind the bar locally.. the MOST pleasant person you would ever want to meet and damn if this little lady doesn’t know her cocktails then i dunno who does! Fantastic all day!! As for dining.. while a limited menu, they offer a Great skirt steak, mac-n-cheese (with or without lobster!) rice n beans.. delicious!! Other items and dishes to go are also offered. Thanks Carly for turning a dreary rainy afternoon into a wonderful time! Tommy says thanks for the Tshirt! 😁

This is a cool little place to go and have some lunch, or a nice dinner. You can sit at the bar or at these cool little tables, they even have a big dinning section for larger crowds. The food is really good and they have options for 5$ up to 21$. They have a large variety of cocktails to choose from making this a really fun place to go and visit, its definitely worth the trip to check this place out. One of my favorite things is they use paper straws for their cocktails and they have great fresh fruit for their drinks. We will definitely be coming back to try their macaroni and cheese.

This carefully detailed establishment certainly hits the spot with the wood fired menu selection and the mixologist cocktails. A pleasant surprise for the location or anywhere. The proprietors have put a lot of thought and care into this establishment and are super friendly. Try everything on the menu and you will not be disappointed. I will certainly be back on my next visit to the vicinity.

Nice cocktail, ice cold Sunday Beer and a celery kombu dish that was the best bar snack I’ve had this year. You should definitely check it out.

The food is like gourmet bar food! And their handmade soda with handmade syrups that are healthy for you are so good! The environment is super cute. The decor is lovely and the staff was fun and kind. I was able to use Wi-Fi to get some work done on my computer as well, which was very helpful. It’s a lovely little spot

Amazing cocktails and food and a really neat place with nice staff. We had the potato, crispy chicken thigh, skirt steak, and bean bruschetta. All were tasty and I would try anything on their menu. But my favorite was definitely my rum punch drink! You could taste all of the flavors and the quality in each sip. Definitely worth the visit!

What a cozy piece of history! My medium rare skirt steak was cooked perfectly. You could cut it with a dinner knife it was so tender. The Cuban corn was delicious. Luckily I was eating alone because it got a little messy with the tasty coating falling off (not a first date food choice)! The Cosmopolitan was also perfect. Great staff and there were quite a few friendly locals that made me feel welcome. Highly recommend!

The atmosphere is really cool, in an old fire house that's been beautifully renovated. Inside, there's a warm ambience with leather couches along with the chairs and tables. You go up to the bar to order and then someone delivers it to your table. We found the servers to be super friendly and accommodating. Everything on the menu except a few veggies are roasted in a wood fired oven, even the artichoke dip. Everything was delicious. Especially the trout on a cedar plank, the bacon entre and the rustic bread (Whatever they put on it, it's delicious!). I had a cocktail (Mexican firing squad) -- tasty but a little too sweet for me. Should have ordered a margarita or something else from the long cocktail list. Some food items are a little pricey, and the portions are not huge. If you're hungry the bill will add up.

It has been almost 4 years to the day. Tough review to write as my wife passed last Oct. We were last there in March of 2020. This was our go to spot till covid, not just due to the ambiance but the owners and the food were amazing. Returned this past April .. and was not disappoint. My friend who is very picky loved the place. One review suggested a small loan to be able to afford a dinner. $36 gets you 2 chicken thighs, a corn and a potato .. as well as one of the best Old Fashions i have ever had. For my money, it is a steal and i am retired on a fixed income. Was very happily surprised, nice to see the 2 boys making a go of it .. thru covid and onward.

Craft cocktails at their finest. A great place for nibbles and drinks. Service is friendly and professional. Reminds me of the craft pubs In Brooklyn

Excellent food. Menu was definitely kind of mix and match but everything we had was delicious and perfectly cooked.

Enjoyed our stop at the fire station. Great atmosphere and enjoyed the food. The trout was served on a charred wood plank. Very flavorful and perfectly cooked. The Mexican corn was delicious as well

Just stopped for lunch at Cochecton Fire Station since it was suggested to us. It seemed nice and new, and had a cozy vibe. We were a little surprised that they didn't have table service and that we had to order at the bar, but it was fine! Good chocolate egg crème and Mac and cheese. The chicken thigh was fine but basic, and the skirt steak was definitely the star of the show. It came in a delicious pan sauce that we really enjoyed. Everything came to the table very hot and fresh. Overall, not a bad stop for our lunch before our activities for the day.

I was staying in Cochecton for the weekend and was across the street basically from the Cochecton Fire Station. We decided to check it out for dinner one night, and we were glad that we did! As soon as you walk in you're greeted with warmth. We tried a couple of things on the menu and had a drink each. All were delicious! It's definitely cozy and comfortable and would recommend if you're in the area.

When this place opened 5 years ago it was hands down our favorite place to go. Great, friendly staff, (both owners, Brian and the twins) great food and truly crafted cocktails. Always met friendly people at the bar. After Covid, the vibe really changed. Where they used to handcraft all the cocktails, then now seem mixed ahead of time. Bar staff not very enthusiastic or friendly. Have gone many times since Covid and walk out feeling same way. I miss the old vibe!

Too many tables and chairs packed into a small space, but the ambience otherwise is nice. The food is very tasty, however, it is entree prices for less than appetizer size servings. You need a bank loan to eat a meal here.

Ordered ahead for takeout (it's takeout-only right now) and had an awesome experience. My party of four tried basically everything: + Chicken thigh + Cuban corn - my favorite thing that I ate + Mac and cheese + Hasselback potato + Skirt steak + Shrimp & pineapple x 2 - loooved the pineapple + Romaine + Rice and beans + Hook & ladder punch cocktail + Feed & seed cocktail - both cocktails were great Friendly employees and order was ready right on time. Hope to dine in one day! 4.5 stars.

Great spot for a casual dinner. The space is fun with several seating areas, bar seating, an indoor dining area stocked with cozy couches, and an outdoor deck. We ordered a selection of yummy treats including the mac n'cheese (yes!), Hasselback potatoes (crispy and delish!), roasted caprese (excellent!), white bean bruschetta (good, but couldn't eat since I have a red onion allergy), butcher's bacon (giant slab of meat!), and smore (melty and sweet). Come with friends and be merry.

It's a drink place not a food place but the food is great! And the drinks are EXCEPTIONAL!! Super cool people are always behind the bar. Fantastic atmosphere. One of the best hang outs in the area. Everyone is welcome!

The food was good but the service was bad, you have to bring your own drinks to the table they had some bald guy come out and serve the food and he got mad cause we told him he brought the wrong food, and he gave us an attitude I would never eat there again

The food was always great not big selections or portions more appetizers type dining. Unfortunately in last year or so they seem to think takeout should pay a large tip, if not they shame the customer by saying no tip or small tip! After seeing it and heard from others, I have stopped going to this place. Tips on takeout were given during pandemic to help out the workers.

It's important to be discerning when reading Yelp reviews. That said, to those saying that this restaurant offers "small portions," is "too expensive," or the person who gave 1 star, but didn't actually eat here bc the set-up was "awkward"& he "doesn't understand why he can't just eat inside" during a global pandemic, etc.... these people are the type of people who are science-deniers and value quantity over quality--i.e. would have no qualms eating out of a literal trough and fall into the obese-to-morbidly-obese weight range. You know the type of person I'm talking about. This restaurant is not for those people, and they should have known that from the get-go at the first review of the menu, but stupid can't be fixed, unfortunately. This restaurant is outstanding. The quality and preparation of the food rivals many 4-5-star restaurants in Philly (where I hail from). The menu is small and thoughtfully planned. We had the steak, potato, & mac-n-cheese, which was the perfect amount of food for me and my husband. The steak was so delicious - perfectly prepared to medium rare, so tender, and the drippings were so good, I ended up dipping the potato in it. I was initially skeptical about the potato - I thought it might be soggy, but no, the outer crust was so deliciously crispy, & the inside was tender, but not overdone. Fresh dill within the sour cream added such a burst of freshness to the dish. The mac-n-cheese was also exceptional - multiple cheeses make for a complex flavor combination and the right balance of crispy crust to gooey inside. The outdoor seating area is lovely with very nice ambiance. The place has propane heaters & lots of picnic & cafe tables. We brought blankets with us too (as we typically do at places with outdoor seating, as we love sitting outdoors in the cold weather, & blankets keep your tush cozy!) just to make sure we'd be very comfortable and would be able to spend some time there with our drinks if we wanted to. We were plenty warm and comfortable and truly enjoyed the space. If you, like me and my family, value sharing quality time and food with your loved ones during the infrequent times you go out to a restaurant for a meal, then this place is for you. If you are looking for a toilet-bowl full of garbage food to feed you & your obese family, then just go to Burger King.

We enjoyed this place so much. What a diamond in disguise. Unique cocktails and the food was absolutely delicious. The best meal we had in the area and what an interesting/cool location.

We were going to have lunch here but couldn't get past the awkward set up. I have no idea why they don't allow you to eat inside. Instead they make you order through some take out window, then walk to the other side of the building to sit at a picnic table. Not sure what happens once you actually are seated. We decided to pass and went to eat at more traditional restaurant not some overpriced take out window.

Had a horrible experience. place is pretty much self service. Put the order in with bartender. Waited an hour only to find out our was never put in. Totally unacceptable. Very disappointing I was looking forward to a good meal and ended up with nothing

Comfort food with a flare, and (I'm sure) remarkable cocktails. We stopped by en route to dropping a kid at Tyler Hill Camp, so it was a midday visit without an opportunity to partake in all of the interesting cocktails. The menu is clever--all of the food items fall into the "$5" or "Not $5" sections. We ordered all of the $5 items plus an order of plank trout and we shared everything. The Mac and cheese was the best I've ever encountered, and the crispy rice and beans were the perfect blend of crunchy deliciousness with sour cream. The potato is sliced and crunchy on the outside and smooth on the inside again with sour cream (awesome). The plank trout was tasty but over salted. The roasted romaine was also a tasty treat. Nothing was exotic but everything was spectacularly tasty--would be a regular if I lived near here!

Consistently good food and service. We are lucky to have them so close. The menu is small but mighty. I never leave disappointed.

We loved the place when we went. Indoor space is pretty cool with fireplace, cozy bar area, with living room chairs. Crowded even on a cold day. Cocktails were great. Tasty skirt steak, Cheese plates, Mac & cheese. We stopped in during covid-time & got some grab/go once & it was great.

Went here for a friends birthday as a group of 7 and we all enjoyed this place!! The cocktails were fabulous, they make all their juices and carry quality liquors. The menu is simple. We ordered macaroni and cheese, chicken thighs, hassleback potatos, steak and the cheese board. It did not disappoint. The table favorites were the cheese board and the steak - which was cooked to perfection in their brick oven. It's a casual dining experience with no table service, everything is ordered at the bar. It's simple, unique and wonderful. Oh and the detailed woodwork inside is amazing!

Yes-Yes-and more-YES!!! So glad we found this place while visiting the Catskills. Everything was prepared skillfully, simple, and delicious. Cannot wait to return when they fully reopen and get the full experience. It had just rained so we did grab and go but they have a lovely outdoor seating area should decide to eat on premise. If you choose to do so they have an interesting choice of cocktails with a cadre of house made syrups and mixers.

Very cool place, food was very good. You pick the items a la carte. I thought it got a little pricey for what it is once you get enough food for a grown man sized meal.

My fiance and I had an amazing dinner from Cochecton to celebrate our engagement. We were staying at a nearby town and were recommended this restaurant from our host. We were so glad for it - the food was delicious and unique, including a cheese board literally served on plywood and fantastic cocktails. We enjoyed our dinner so much that we had to return for a few more apps to-go. Highly recommend!

Stopped here based on the Yelp recommendations. Seems like a great community bar with very friendly staff. The drinks are amazing and you can even take one for the road as a carryout. The cheese board is wonderful but the rest of our food did not live up to previous reviews. The chicken thigh was dry and the farmers bacon undercooked. The crispy beans and rice was just canned black beans with white rice and a baked top. Bland and unappetizing. I would definitely recommend them for drinks but not dinner

While this is a cool place to go and have a few drinks with friends it's not the place to go for dinner. Limited menu of small dishes most of which leave much to be desired. The macaroni and cheese is good otherwise I wouldn't recommend much on the food menu. staff is friendly and the service is fairly good however

What a sleek, cool bar in one of the oldest, and smallest, towns in Sullivan County. The bartenders are fantastic and super friendly. They're creative, have great technique and put together some of the best cocktails you'll ever have. They make their own soda syrups, bitters, flavored simple syrups, etc. nice local beer selection. Drink prices on their cocktail menu are $10. They have a wood burning oven that adds great extra flavor to a $5 app menu that ranges from mac and cheese, roasted romaine and Mexican street corn. The apps are delicious. They also have entrees that looked good in passing when brought to other tables. You can tell this is a popular gathering spot for people on both sides of the Delaware River. What a fantastic find.

Great ambience with mix of local and tourists. Find a seat and go to the bar to order. Great for big groups or to find a table for two. Loved the drinks, I recommend the old fashion. The food is great and affordable. Got the fish and romaine lettuce with Cuban corn. What a meal, would recommend it.

What an amazing place . The inside was cozy and inviting. Owners and staff are very friendly and are always creating delicious and inventive cocktails. Food is affordable,casual and fun . A great place to hang with friends or a group.Sunken living room , with chesterfield sofas and a 70's vibe wood burning stove ..create a warm and inviting feel. A must go to.. open everyday except Tuesday. They open at 12PM -10 PM so it also makes a great spot for lunch. Looking forward to see what they do in the summer!

I live in Manhattan,NY but have a weekend home in Damascus,Pa and there is no restaurant that are any good near our house. We were so happy to see the fire station turned into a restaurant. The atmosphere is so mellow, friendly and cool. They owners and staff are very friendly and accommodating. We order everything on the menu except the fish and roasted cheese. Food was great, especially the corn, rice, steak and shrimp. We had 2 Drinks, a couple of sodas, 2 egg creams and the s'mores were on point. You order food and drink from the bar and they bring items over to your table. Very causal dining. We will definitely be back again and you should try the restaurant out to support local business owners. One suggestion to the owner is to put a sensor light out the side door near the parking area as it was dark outside getting to your car especially with elderly patrons.

Fabulous food! This is not a regular menu like plates but more like many small servings of many varieties! Brushetta was a cheese tray with breads, amazing, trout was fresh and a one tray serving and baked potato was amazingly tasty! I had hard cider which was very mild and hubby had vodka and grapefruit, very pleasant! Atmosphere was cozy and interesting! Service , friendly! We will return!

The cocktails and the tapas style takeout all contribute to one of the best dining experiences in Sullivan County. Hoping that they are able to reopen fully next year, as the full dining experience simply can't be beat. My friends and I like to joke that this is the best bear bar north of the city. Everyone is friendly and everything on the menu is absolutely delicious. We would know; we have tried everything they have to offer.

Delicious food and awesome drinks at great prices. A great place to go on a Tuesday when everything else is closed. See you next Tuesday!

Following the July 4th parade and fair in Narrowsburg, we came here hungry and thirsty and this restaurant did not disappoint!. Very nice, casual venue with seating both inside and outside -- with a large semi-circular fully stocked bar and the kitchen right behind it - we took a glance at their brick oven where the food gets cooked. You order everything a la carte - and it's a simple menu - and the food was fresh and delicious (note the food is made to order so there was a wait with 'everything' for the 4 of us then brought out all at once). We ordered multiple plates of chicken, baked potatoes, rice/bean casserole and corn. Found the restaurant very clean with nice, pleasant employees.

If you are in the area, Fire Station is amazing place for small bites & signature drinks, draft beer & wine. 5 stars!!! Arrived late last evening with friends, they loved it!

If your visiting Sullivan County in upstate NY , around Bethel, Kenoza Lake, Jeffersonville, Narrowsburg, and your passing through or staying around the small town of Cochecton, with a population of just over 1300 , you would be missing out miserably if you did not stop in and check out the Cochecton Fire Station. Now I'm not talking about the Fire Department that serves the community, I'm talking about an establishment that has been in town for just over a year now who settled in to what use to be the original fire Station now turned into new local HOT spot ( no pun intended) and not just local anymore as as word got out , this place draws a great crowd. We started with the cedar plank trout that was perfectly lightly seasoned and served on the cedar slab followed by a Roasted cheese board with lightly roasted cheeses and bread chunks also ordering the skirt steak strips and a couple of orders of Roasted Romaine and finally a couple of ears of Cuban corn that had a heavy coating of Cuban spices that really accented the corn well. I don't drink but the others in my group enjoyed the Ornery Old fashion and the Back from Manhattan and also the Feed and Seed ( I'm sure getting its name from the Cochecton seed mill just down the road). These drinks were presented garnished and looked as good as they tasted. The building is decorated in a fire department theme with soft lighting and eclectic furniture with burnt walls and comforting music. The crowd is mixed as young and old accept what they have to present and all they have to offer. I don't expect the fire to go out anytime soon at this Hot spot and you can put the hoses away cause this place is not a wash. In fire terms, toss a ladder and grab a rung cause this place is at the top of my list for a return visit real soon...

Bartender Jack is the best. Sit at the bar and watch him work his magic. Food was delicious very friendly atmosphere and very casual. Old Fire Station converted. My wife and I ate here during our visit to Bethel and the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Festival. This place fit right in!!

Incredible! Visiting from Philadelphia, we didn't think we'd find great craft cocktails here. We were wrong. Brian and Will crushed the mixology and even told us everything they were using. Owner and all the rest of the staff were so hospitable, it felt like home. It may have been the highlight of the trip. Food was creative and fantastic as well. 10/10 recommended. Will hopefully be back someday. Cheers.

This is not just the best restaurant in the area, this is one of the best restaurants I've ever been to, period. Fantastic service, amazing food cooked in a wood oven, and super cool ambiance. When I walk into this restaurant I feel like I'm stepping into another world, considering the NYC feel and the rural surroundings. It makes me so happy to see a restaurant like this succeed. The owners clearly took a huge risk that paid off and hired some badass employees that clearly have pride in the restaurant. If you're reading this review you MUST come here.

The old saying: "it is what it is" applies here: the old fire station in a one- horse town, converted into a order-at-the-bar restaurant where you get straightforward service with straightforward cooking. Obviously, it takes balls to open a restaurant in that setting and in that way; perhaps more obvious: this could only work if the food is great. Thankfully, it is. Some of the best mac&cheese I've ever had, a beautiful slab of trout, and a tasty steak. The vibe is amazing. You and your friends can go swimming in the river, show up here afterwards and eat and drink while relaxing by the huge open garage door. Bravo- wishing this restaurant all the success it deserves.

Amazing!!! Just sooo damn good!! We took a long drive into PA from Callicoon and on our way back stopped at this old Fire House revamped into a restaurant spot literally sitting waiting for us at a T Crossing. Cocktails were fantastic and so was the grilled Steak, Chicken and grilled Romaine! Just fabulous in the middle of farmland and forest. A wonderful respite where there is not much of good food around except crappy Italian or same old same old American fair a dime a dozen. Honestly.. can't wait to go back.

So cool. We got take-out. Drove right up, short line, we ordered a bunch of stuff and then waited in the parking lot. Service was super friendly, very local vibe with a couple folks meandering around with cocktails out front. The food was great -- the skirt steak was probably my favorite, but all we had was great. Oh, wait, the smore was my favorite!! So good. Definitely a place to try when you are within driving distance.

Excellent small bites, very good cocktails and great atmosphere. Highly recommend. Take away service during covid but the staff are so friendly and food so good you'll be happy to support this business during these tough times.
