Cochino Taco Comes to South Broadway | Eater Denver

"A second location has opened in the Baker section of South Broadway, offering the same playful, vibrant aesthetic and menu as the original Englewood outpost. Known for gourmet tacos and fun snack items such as frito pie and green chili cheese tater tots, the operation traces its roots to a 2016 start inside a former gas station at 3495 South Downing Street. The new spot retains the existing bar from the space's prior tenant and features a large patio that the owner envisions could eventually host live music." - Paul Albani-Burgio

I feel we may have had new staff and servers this time at Cochino Taco, as there were mistakes that I don't remember from our first visit. Spilling water on me and then not cleaning it up from the menu and table is pretty bad, though. I feel the flavors and textures were all over the place too. The standard beef taco was very bland, not even meeting expectations found in a fast food order. The veggie taco was extremely salty, and the more interesting sounding items on the menu (la lengua, pork ears, etc.) also had a lack of flavor that could have lended to the cultural uniqueness of the dishes. The tongue was nicely tender and the freshly crisped shells we delightful. Attention was paid to presentation, and that was another highlight for us.

Google
Super fun neighborhood taco spot! Solid happy time menu. I’m not usually a frozen margarita gal but Cochino is the exception. Several choices— Paloma, new frozen coconut, can’t beat the house option either. You can even get them to go!! Great value on top of it all.

Google
I love it here. Gabby, Lisa, Joel and Dayna are the best. They always give me the best served cold cans of Modelo. It never disappoints. I highly recommend the wings here, but everything on the menu is great.

Edit in response to owners comments: I was referring to the location off of Downing in Englewood, not olde town arvada. I have never been to olde town arvada. The parking lot at the location off of Downing fills up very fast and there have been many times I have gone there and there was nowhere to park. Fantastic tacos. I love the al pastor tacos. These are actually original and unique craft tacos, not just your classic boring old Mexican tacos. They use quality ingredients. They also have really good margaritas, I liked the aloe vera margarita. Highly recommend this place, the only issue would be that their parking is a nightmare when they are busy (and they are usually always pretty busy).

Y'all need to appreciate what you have, here. Cochino Taco consistently has excellent food, great service, and hands-down the best happy hour in the quad-state area. Quad state? Yeah, you heard me. Bring it on, New Mexico. Cochino is the only place to have ever upgraded my beloved double decker taco (Shaggy Style!) and the margs are strong and tasty. We'll be back, again, and again, and again...

Google
This has consistently been a neighborhood staple for our family, ever since they fell from heaven in all their pig-lovin' glory in 2016. It's one of the longstanding places with quality food that doesn't burn a hole in our pockets. Their HAPPY HOUR, Holy Moses... it includes excellent deals on both drinks AND food, and it is forever long, every day of the week (11AM until 6 PM, 7 days a week)! One pair of their crunchy chicken tacos, shaggy style, with a coconut margarita is the way to go, man. Or, even the nachos, (though I leave off the mention of the "evil," cuz who needs more of that in their lives). :) I just tried their fish tacos last night, and the fish was so tender, with just enough of the grill taste and fun sauces on top (try the jalapeño crema, but not if you're a weenie for spice). It's all been fantastic. They introduced me to one of my loves—cotija cheese—and they allow me to escape cilantro whenever I want (which is always). It's a fun all-weather patio spot, because they've fine-tuned the temperature control—even in the winter. We are huge fans of family-friendliness, which they have also mastered with their kids menu (hello taco trucks!). This deserves far more stars than 4.2 IMHO! Here's my attempt at shattering that falsehood! HUZZAH! 5 STARS FROM ME! * * * * *

Google
We love Cochino Taco and visit 1–3 times a week — so choosing it for our wedding reception felt natural, and it could not have been more perfect. From Sean’s warm leadership to every staff member’s thoughtful attention, the team handled every detail with professionalism and heart. The food is consistently outstanding — vibrant flavors, beautiful presentation, and dishes our guests are still raving about. The atmosphere is lively yet intimate, and the staff made the evening flow effortlessly. If you want exceptional food and service that feels like family, book Cochino Taco — we couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate.

Google
The environment and staff is great. The food tastes pretty good. The only issue I have is the corn tortillas seem like they came straight from a wrapper with no caliente!! Not even cooked! It’s like who would serve cold fries with a burger.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite Mexican Restaurants when we visit Denver. The food quality and service are always very good. I ordered the wings with Mexican Buffalo Sauce for the first time. The chicken quality was excellent. I would have liked them to be a bit crispier. We also ordered the Cochino Elote, corn with sauce and cheese. Delicious! This was the third or fourth time we ordered Carnitas and Chorizo tacos along with Cheese Enchiladas. Everything was delicious. They offer a very long happy hour 11-6PM. This establishment is all about value and quality. No photos. I rarely photograph take out because the presentation is not as nice as when you are served in the restaurant. Excellent price/value relationship

Yelp
Now I love Mexican food but this spot has changed over the past few years that I have eaten there. So I order the street corn and two fried Chicken tender tacos. I get my order and my street corn is drowning in crushed hot Cheetos. I know it's not crushed hot Cheetos but the seasoning looks like it and tastes like it - overpowering the taste and flavor of the corn and really salty. So I share with my waitress it's just too much and can I try something else? And so kind, she says yes and I order the queso. Queso comes out and the same thing - it's drowning and covered with the crushed Tajín Clásico Seasoning! I couldn't eat it. My chicken tacos come out and I try and pick them up - my tortillas are soaked from the slaw topping juice and they just tear as I bite into it. . So I just ask for additional flour tortillas to wrap them again and to eat them. It was messy. If you want to get a parking spot you can' forget that park on the street because there is not a lot of parking on the restaurant property. And yes, a Friday night it was busy but you don't have to wait too long. I think I might stick to my chicken quesabrillas from the taco truck.

Yelp
This cute Mexican spot in Englewood is a gem! The service is consistently great, and the atmosphere is cozy. Parking is limited, but we've always managed to find street parking nearby. The heated patio is a nice touch, though I'd recommend avoiding tables too close to the heaters--they get uncomfortably warm, and it can be hard to hear your tablemates. We started with the Doritos nachos, a delicious and creative combo. For tacos, we tried the lengua (a bit salty for my taste), the battered shrimp taco (my favorite), and the rajas taco (spicy but full of flavor). All were generously loaded, though the fillings did make the shells fall apart. Their house margaritas were a great pairing! Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Chips and salsa were delicious! They have 3 different types of salsa, the chips are covered in what taste like chili powder and lime! They do have entrees you can veganize, we had a veggie burrito, avocado tostada, and a mushroom taco! The drinks were pretty bomb too!

Yelp
I have been to Cochino several times and realized I have never reviewed it. Good thing we decided to venture to Englewood for brunch today so I could. Cochino offers several types of Mexican cuisine- I mean they had 3 menus for one meal. I have tried most things on Cochino's menu over the years. Today, I selected the Chilaquiles with carne asada. It was a massive portion of very good food. Eggs were cooked to preference- sunnyside up for me on any chilaquiles, carne asada was cooked to perfection and the beans and corn tortillas were very good. I'm not a fan of Cochino's tomatillo sauce and this dish is covered in it. Their tomatillo has a bitter and sweet taste to it, which I don't find in others' tomatillo sauces. I also had the holiday Mexican Hot Chocolate. This beverage had a heavy pour of tequila in it and was made with cayenne and cinnamon, overall a good cocktail to keep you warm. Highly recommend Cochino! They do really good food! It's worth a visit if you haven't been. Service was attentive as usual and their decor is always a fun time, especially this time of year with their take on the holidays as well as their main mascot, the pig.

Yelp
I don't know how you can't love a place that serves Dorito nachos. Come here! Their happy hour is from 11-6. How is that anything less than awesome!! Get their Hell Jimmy spicy margarita... you're welcome.

Yelp
Stopped by here for lunch while out apartment hunting. Our waiter was friendly and prompt. The food is delicious! We had the Queso Dip with chorizo that came with seasoned tortilla chips. My only complaint is that I wish it was a larger portion. The Cochino Elote was so good with just the perfect amount of cheese and the fresh lime is the perfect touch. I tried the Al Pastor, Cotija Cheese Skirt and Taco De Pescado. My favorites were the Al Pastoe and the Cotija. The fish taco was tasty but it had entirely too much of the spicy Fresno sauce which just overpowered the entire dish and made it borderline inedible. I wish I would've had time to try one of their desserts or numerous cocktail options but I had to get to work. I hope to be back soon!

Yelp
As great as always! Perfect place to bring the kids for the last day of elementary school!

Yelp
This is our answer for dinner when we don't want to cook and want a good meal. Happy Hour is a great deal. Get those tacos shaggy style (with beans and queso)! I also love their mas macho burrito as a bowl...and when our waiter suggested extra crispy carnitas, it made it even better! The service is great. The frozen paloma and the Hey Zeus beer are my favorite drink options. The outdoor patio is great for pups as well! We've taken a number of our foster pups there for socialization and everyone is always so kind!

Yelp
Saw this little restaurant this afternoon and there were quite a lot of people in there. So I checked with YELP and it got a lot of good reviews, so I decided to try it. I am very glad I did. It was quite busy at 2:00 in the afternoon, but I was waited on very quickly. The waitress was extremely helpful and they gave HH From 11 in the Morning ;~} I ordered The HH Tacos, 2a Side of beans $3 (very small) and a Frozen Margarita, The food was Delicious with lots of Chicken on the 2 Tacos. I also Loved the Frozen Margarita I will definitely go back. I was quite full after eating and drinking.
google avatar

Edie A.

Yelp
Cochino has a great HH, 11-6pm daily with plenty of selections. Their house margaritas are always great. Queso is good. 2 chicken soft tacos had plenty of chicken and were filling. Service was attentive as always.

J P.

Yelp
The bartenders will serve you overly strong drinks then proceed to call the cops on you if you go back to your car while waiting for a uber. This place is a joke. Bad food, joke of a staff
google avatar

Shelby F.

Yelp
My husband came here the other day and said it was horrible as well. He got the carne asada burrito and when he opened it up it had maybe 4 pieces of meat in it. He also got extremely sick after eating here so I will no recommend anyone to come here nor will I be returning to here or any location.
google avatar

Shin M.

Yelp
Sat on patio with dog. Queso happy hour chips were alright. I like the seasoning on the chips. Queso was very liquidy tho. The chorizo burrito was okay. Not as good as I remember. Server wasn't very friendly, didn't even look us in the eyes when talking to us. Overall just ok.
google avatar

Jenna W.

Yelp
This place is more of a glorified Taco Bell. Quality of meat is questionable. Got to-go food and they messed up my order and food was in packaging that looked like it could've been sitting under a heat lamp or something. Came out super quick too which worries me.

Ryan R.

Yelp
Been a couple times and it's been so so at best but last night was terrible. The supporting service was ok but our main server was pretty rude. Hands down the worst barbacoa I've ever had. Pozole had literally no ingredients in it, just a big bowl of red broth. Overall, I felt ripped off after leaving this place and wouldn't go back.
google avatar

Savanna B.

Yelp
I had luck here today with my husband and our 2 year old and I was impressed by how kid friendly they are. In addition to the requisite high chair, our waiter brought our a cute lidded kids cup and coloring supplies with our menus. Before my son was born I had no idea how much that kind of thing is appreciated and what a difference it makes in the parent's/caregiver's dining experience. The restaurant is very clean and the decor is fun. It has a very open and bright feel. As the weather was beautiful, we sat on their spacious patio. They have an excellent all day food and drinks happy hour...sadly it's a work day so no drinks...the food was tasty though, especially the burger with poblanos and cheese. The tater tots were a cut above average too- yum!
google avatar

Indigo S.

Yelp
We've been here quite a few times over the years, and it's always been meh but passable. The most recent time, though, the avocado tostado was covered in fresh ingredients that all tasted off (avocado mash, tomato, radish, jicama), the chips were over salted, the funky chicken taco had too much yellow mustard. Even my daughter didn't like her basic beef tacos off the kids' menu - she said the beef didn't taste good. Their staff wear shirts with bad yelp reviews proudly printed on them, which is an odd choice. I guess they've got more shirts to print with this review.

Yelp
The best food , atmosphere, and service. We are regulars and literally the best strawberry margaritas!

Rose S.

Yelp
Cochino Taco in Englewood catered an event for me. The service was wonderful. Sean set up all the food for us. The food was hot on arrival and everyone loved it, there were no negative comments. The cheese tots and chili were especially a big hit! The chips were warm and crispy and seasoned with Tajin soooo good! But all the food was delicious and not much food was left . Several people asked me for the name of the restaurant and I gladly gave it to them. Cochino will have new customers! I highly recommend Cochino Englewood to all Rose, Loveland, CO

Yelp
We finally managed to stop in here for lunch on a Saturday around 2pm. Service was very fast and attentive, however, we were disappointed elsewhere. It was awesome that happy hour exists pretty much all day long so we got 2 margaritas ($5 each) and the chips and queso ($6)z The margaritas were painfully strong, and we both enjoy tequila, but it was honestly like taking a shot every sip. The queso and chips were our favorite part. We then ordered the carnitas, Al pastor, get in my belly, and Barbacoa tacos. They came out in less than 5 minutes from ordering them and unfortunately it was evident that they weren't super fresh. My tortilla on both tacos was chewy and the meat was fine, but nowhere close to Uno Mas or Adelitas where we frequent often. All around, just rather disappointing, and probably not somewhere we will return.

Yelp
Muy Yumm . Food was great! Service was also great! You can bring your dog too ! They had a great st. Patty's day taco and green margaritas!
google avatar

Karianna H.

Yelp
Really cute spot with great food! There were little pigs for decor throughout the restaurant which I loved! We stopped here around 1:30 on a Sunday, so we had brunch and regular options as brunch goes on until 2. They had awesome happy hour and brunch deals. Our server was attentive, and everything we ordered came out quickly and tasted good. This is a smaller place, and the parking lot is small as well (this spot was a former gas station) so keep that in mind when heading over! My only con is that the margarita here was super sour, even for being a fruit flavored one. I'd suggest modifying the mix a bit!
google avatar

N B.

Yelp
I've been twice now with friends. Once at a table & once at the bar & had a great time both times. Enjoyed the staff (waitstaff & bar tenders), felt we had great service and food & drinks came in a timely manner. I'm can be a bit of a princess about cocktails & both times the bartender came up with a delicious jalapeño marg, not too sweet, no salt. And once I have a drink I love, princess fades into the crowd. My only complaint is that I never got a call that I won the Icelandic skis from the Arta Tequilla drawing. I guess it just wasn't my turn to win. Can't blame the staff fo Nice chill non pretentious atmosphere & crowd. I'll definitely keep going back.

Yelp
WHAT AN AMAZING BREATH OF FRESH AIR TO EDGEWATER . Like the other locations, Cucino truly encapsulates, bringing people together with awesome food and great ambience. Bravo to the team (just as the other locations) that treat you like family. What an amazing value to the quality of every dish and trust me, I've tried just about everything on the menu LOL. And while you're at it, the frozen Paloma IS A MUST ........ Congrats to Cochino Taco and welcome to the neighborhood......

Yelp
Cochino Taco is a budget item in our household it's that good! Enough said. Top 5 favorite place in Denver.

Robert G.

Yelp
I met the owner and he is a quirky bloke, but the food is amazing. Great agave and great food. Plus, Karly the bartender is so amazing. Don't cheat yourself, treat yourself. Get in hur.

Ashlynn K.

Yelp
The Pina Pina Peno margarita is the best thing about this place. It's incredible. Best margarita this side of the Mississippi. "Spicy pineapple" flavor won't do.. bring ppp back!
google avatar

Joseph M.

Yelp
I haven't been here in about 2 years and Cochino did not disappoint. Chips, salsa, and guacamole were very tasty. The tacos were great. Service was very good. I need to get here more often.

Kerstin S.

Yelp
This use to be one of our favorite spots. We hadn't been in a while and unfortunately the menu has taken a hit. The Get in my Belly was always our favorite but they completely changed the recipe. Instead of the crispy and savory chunks of pork belly it was a slap drowned in cilantro. Also if you are going to rip off Snowbirds one star review campaign at least do it right. Reviews should be ironic not true.
google avatar

Andrea K.

Yelp
I love how it's hard to miss happy hour around here! Daily from 11-6?! What?! Love that. We came in here for brunch on Sunday and I had the Huevos Rancheros which was quite tasty and hubs went with a carnitas and carbon taco as well as the green chile tots that were on HH. The tacos were pretty good but the tortillas needed to be cooked more. The tots were nice. I honestly didn't need the cheese on them- that green chile was good enough for me and a nice little kick! We also had to try the nachos of course- because it seemed such a novel idea to be served on Doritos. They were ok but way too salty. The doritos themselves are already so salty and then the meat, queso, etc. all had salt. That's saying a lot because I love salty things. The queso on those nachos was the best part. I'd rather have it on regular chips! I went with the Rose during brunch (on HH- $5.50) and Hubs had the Coin Marg (on HH- $6.50). Both were great and we'd order again!

Yelp
Happy hourS 11 am - 6 pm... EVEN on weekends? OK, yeah, definitely.... Montucky michelada with a VICTORIA lager upgrade is the best Ive had. Great tequila selection. Great snacks. A real modern day gem.

Jake S.

Yelp
They sold me a $15 microwaved quesadilla. Possibly the dumbest thing I've ever seen in my life. One star.
google avatar

Megan H.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite neighborhood spots. I love their chips and salads, coin margs, sangria, and their barbacoa and shrimp tacos! I also like getting the beef tacos "shaggy" style (soft wrapped tortilla around your taco with beans and cheese between). The staff here is friendly and relaxed and the crowd is always here for a good time.
google avatar

Bob B.

Yelp
Overall not too impressed. Pleanty of stuffing in the tacos. Shells too small and soggy. Service was not so good took our order and gave us the check and not very friendl. The food runner was more friendly. Margarita not worth $10.

Amy K.

Yelp
Food is fine. Coin margarita excellent. Service slow, non attentive or engaging. Waited a long time to get order taken, get the check, etc.....

Dan L.

Yelp
I'm sorry 1-star Ryan felt compelled to leave a biased review based on his favoritism toward the previous Hampden location manager, but turn-over happens, my dude. We've been coming to Cochino's for years and have been returning because of the staff, the food and the management. Never in any of our visits have we felt ignored, or like we "defiled the place" simply for choosing a seat. The OG restaurant manager, Sean, has never once come across as "unfriendly" or "angry toward patrons". Sean has always displayed the utmost respect toward his staff and patrons alike. He's friendly, accommodating, personable and welcoming, we are happy to visit any chance we can. The food is always spot-on and we come back because it has been and continues to be our favorite taco place. Peace, love and tacos, my friends.
google avatar

Brett J.

Yelp
Taco's are not great; some tacos do not taste good. Also, after I paid my bill and received my text receipt, i noticed a 3% service charge added to my bill. At first I assumed it was an extra fee that was received by the service staff to help with inflation and general cost of high living in Denver. I asked the staff and they said it does not go to the staff, it goes to the restaurant as extra profit. Pretty sneaky of them to add in an extra unexpected charge, and then label in charge in a way that one would assume it would go the the service staff. I will not be eating there again.
google avatar

Donna D.

Yelp
We decided to check this out because the Westword recommended their nachos. My husband is a vegetarian and was THRILLED he could get them with seitan. He was very happy with the vegetarian options. I'm not vegetarian so I loved my tacos and tots. My only recommendation is more options on the kids menu. Check out the happy hour menu! We will definitely be back!
google avatar

Jacob V.

Yelp
If I was reading comments before coming here all I would want to see was upgrade your taco to shaggy style. It was delicious and made it perfect. I only did it to my one but I wish I could all four. My favorites were the carnitas and asada. I tried the pastor and lengua but they weren't my style. The chips and salsa don't come for free but it's 100% worth ordering. We also got the cheese tots and they were filling and delightful. I would give it a 4.3 taste but I always lean towards 5 stars if the service was good and it was. Overall really good food. Nice atmosphere and a good choice for dinner. I would definitely return
google avatar

Rose K.

Yelp
If I were to review the tacos I got completely on their own, I'd say meh. Tortillas were semi raw, the mushroom taco was kinda some sliced mushrooms, and some corn kernels, and not a whole lot else for flavor. The two different pork tacos had more flavor but again, served on raw-ish tortillas. Now for the important part: I got - no exaggeration - the worst case of food poisoning I've ever had in my life from this place. It was like they sprinkled the tacos with norovirus. And I would know, because I got norovirus once a few years ago, and this was worse. I actually had to call in sick to work the day after eating here. Oh man. I will never, ever.... Ever. Go back there. Buyer beware.

Yelp
Cochino has a great happy hour! The food is pretty decent. I'm not sure what is going on when their house margs though. They have always been consistently good over the years but lately they have been SO SOUR. Can't even finish them so sour! The atmosphere is fun and they are usually very clean. Service was great even though it was super busy for a Tuesday lunch. We'll still hit them up for cheap happy hour munchies, but probably skip the margs here.

Michelle F.

Yelp
I will never learn. Visited here back in August (horrible service), went back again a few days ago and sat at the bar. Not sure how the service could have gotten any worse. I think the job interview goes like this...Do you hate to work? Do you dislike people? Are you good at ignoring people? Are you better at chatting with your coworkers than customers? Are you ok with serving subpar food and drink? If you answered yes to all these question then you are hired!!
google avatar

Collin C.

Yelp
Love comin here on that all day everyday happy hour!!! Drinks are so cheap and sooo good!!!! All the food be tasty af. And all this on that happy hour pricing!!!!! Come on this an easy W especially for those mid day mid week happy hour meet ups!!!!

Nick K.

Yelp
White people tacos, poorly executed. Bland at best, strange and unappealing flavors at worst. Had four different tacos, all were bland and greasy while simultaneously dry, and came on the saddest raw tortillas I've ever witnessed. Kinda figured we were in trouble when all three of the salsas were terrible and not even remotely spicy. The naked wings were fine as long as you kept them that way. The Mexican buffalo sauce was just strange. My dad got the chopped salad, reported that the tequila dressing was inedible. My mom got a Caesar salad that could have come from any mediocre diner in the country. Service was fine, if a bit confused. Ambiance was sort of weird - the quantity of TVs is sports bar level. The staff all had shirts quoting a 1-star yelp review saying "this place sucks". About on point. Skip it, and go pay 1/4 the price for delicious tacos at any of the trucks on Federal.

Yelp
My first visit to Cochino Taco was on a Monday night, so I may have to go back for lunch on a weekend to really give you an idea about this place. That said, I loved it and will be more than happy to go back! This place is in a casual but very adorably decorated, renovated old gas station with a patio. The service was friendly and timely. The bathrooms were clean. We ordered chips and salsa to start and the three different salsas were delicious! Very full of flavor. Their margaritas were awesome. Not too strong (remember I said it was a Monday). We both ordered the Tinga and Barbacoa tacos. I especially loved the barbacoa one. I'll be back!

Yelp
It's like a hidden jem that's been here for minute, exceptional food porn options , quality crafted thought about cocktails, amd food that has the ultimate pair options. Check it out and enjoy the patio or view with a bar !!

Yelp
We love this place so much!!! The service is always fantastic and the food is on point too! Make sure to stop by for happy hour because they have $5 margs, queso and guacamole!

Yelp
DORITOS ON THE MENU.....talk about phoning it in! I was here and watched the owner abuse his staff by making the bartender pick up after him TWICE. Once I got my breaded chicken strips in a soft taco shell with little flavoring??? Why double down on the starch? No clue how to season chicken? Then there was bone chips left in the chicken strip. How dose this chicken get through so many hands and NOBODY feels the bone til it goes into my gums??? Total shit show, I have no idea How he stays in business but I know why his previous restaurant partners left him. Dude has no clue how to make a menu OR treat a staff. Fuck this place, total shit. I've only worked in over 75 restaurants, so what the fuck do I know.
