Cocina Abierta is chef Martin Louzao's tasting menu. Since the weather on the island was lovely we decided to dine Alfresco. The menu was simple and easy to understand. We decided to select a few dishes from the different acts and share them family style.
For small plates we ordered:
1. Fresh catch ceviche; Leche de Tigre, peanuts, tostones
2. Mushroom Al Pastor tacos; Sweet potato tortillas, seasonal fruit pico de gallo; we enjoyed this on our table since we had to prepare it ourselves, as in what sauce and pickles we want to put in our tacos.
3. Yellowfin tuna tataki; Cassava fritter, Lulo & cabezon pineapple ponzu, onion & fennel marmalade
4. Spiny lobster; Orangelo miso glaze, white bean and cashew purée, roasted vegetables
All the small plates came in a timely fashion and we both agreed that our small plate selection was on point. It was delicious with lots of flavors to enjoy.
For the main entree, we selected:
1. Beef Wellington; Rosa Bianca eggplant, mushroom, and bacon duxelles, demi-glace
2. Plantain Mofongo; Smoked pork bondiola, ginger BBQ sauce Shiitake soy consommé
Both dishes are equally impressive, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The portion was good for sharing as well.
The entire experience blew us away, the dishes are delicious and the staff are attentive and nearby when you need something. This place is worth the visit while on the island.
