All The Notable Restaurant Controversies in Montreal for 2019 | Eater Montreal

"I found that Waseem Ramli, owner of the downtown restaurant Cocktail Hawaii, was appointed as an honorary consul for the Syrian government in Canada—a fact that was approved by a Canadian government agency." - Eater Staff

Syria Appoints Owner of Montreal’s Cocktail Hawaii as Honorary Consul | Eater Montreal

"I noted the spot’s kitschy, somewhat dated tropical décor and a menu loaded with crepes — there are no cocktails or Hawaiian dishes despite the name — giving it a tone that feels a far cry from a government that has waged a brutal, years-long civil war. Inside there are no signs of owner Waseem Ramli’s fondness for Syrian president Bashar al-Assad, but Maclean’s reports he prominently displays that affinity elsewhere in Montreal (a red Hummer with a picture of Assad in the window) and on his main Facebook profile photo where he poses with Assad; Ramli, who also works as a management consultant, was appointed an honorary consul for Syria, a development that prompted concern from Syrian refugees in Canada who said they felt intimidated and feared he could deny them consular services or relay information back to the Syrian government." - Tim Forster

Tasty selections of sweet and sour pancakes served with fresh fruits that are sure to fill you up! The portions are huge. The interior is very cozy and calm. Conveniently located next to a metro station, it’s a great place if you’re craving a late night treat or just a midday snack. Only downside is that it could be on the pricier side but if you’re willing to pay you’re in for a beautiful time.

This place had some great pictures of their food so I wanted to check it out. I went one morning during my trip and the store was empty, which surprised me. Maybe everyone was late to work that morning. I ordered the Alma some pancakes, which had kiwi, pineapple, strawberry and banana. The pancakes were tasty and very filling!! I’d recommend two people for a single order. The prices were a little high considering the food. It’s a cool place to check out.

On a whim we visited this crepe waffle place one evening. I was surprised by the quality of the waffles! They were spongy on the outside and soft on the inside - the perfect texture. Most places I have tried rarely get the texture right and I was pleasantly surprised. So far it is the best dessert waffle I have experienced in Montreal so far. We also ordered ice cream on the side. The portions are generous. Altogether, the Sacramento waffle with ice cream was sufficient for the two of us. The presentation was beautiful. The interior has a very rustic summer vibe. The staff were a little disorganized yet super happy and friendly, which more than made up for it. The menu is appropriate for both dessert or brunch. Entire dessert menu is vegetarian. We would definitely return to explore more of the menu.

Crepes you say? Why yes! Went in with no expectations, and was very surprised with the service, that was great, and the food, which was exceptional! If crepes are your game, I can't think of any other spot to try. I had the Rosa crepes, with whip cream and strawberries. Mom used to make crepes like no other, and these were comparable. That is a high bar that Cocktail Hawaiian meets. I was very happy and satisfied with the food and atmosphere. Eat here, you will not be disappointed!

Updated review after visiting the place for the first time, the other review was about my delivery experience. The food was really tasty, the juice was really good. The size is actually big and worth the price more than when it’s delivery. The thing I didn’t really like and understood is the tipping. I don’t know why I paid 15% while everything was self service. I ordered than went to the table than went to get the food than returned the tray after finish and left. I’ll definitely come back again the food was delicious but I won’t be tipping just because they did their job by preparing the meal. 😀❤️ — Really tasty fresh juice 😋😋 it’s a bit expensive but really good 👍🏻

Late night snack adventure and it was totally worth it. This place is amazing and I wish there was one of these in NYC. The waffles and crapes are delicious. The juices are fresh and yummy. 100% recommend this place to everyone to give it a try at least once. The staff is very nice and prices are affordable for how much they give. Mountain of fresh fruit and so much Nutella your mouth will stick together. Give it a try!

A piece of Hawaii right in downtown Montreal! Had breakfast here and the proportions were perfect. Pleasant staff, and accommodated my broken French 😂(Ottawa Valley Twang hiding it). Super kind to all customers, and a relaxing environment earlier in the day.
