"Cocoin Kitchen is a quick-service strip mall spot in Hacienda Heights that offers simple, visibly juicy hainan chicken plates for $15. The poultry here glistens under the restaurant’s fluorescent lights, which, as a result, tells our brain to eat this sliced poultry immediately. Thankfully, it tastes as good as it looks. The skin falls off the meat, there’s a subtle hint of soy sauce in each bite, and the soft rice is rich with chicken fat without overdoing it." - Sylvio Martins

Google
I tried the Hainan chicken set and it was a solid. The rice was flavorful and the chicken was juicy. The customer service was friendly and quick. I would come back again to try some other dishes.

Google
Great food and service! They didn’t had enough help but the lady that was serving us was doing extremely well to meet our needs. My stomach was very satisfied when we leave the place

Google
The food was alright. The Kung Pao tofu was not authentic.”, but doesn’t taste bad.

Google
Renovated interior that looks better than before. A good mom and pop place that has very good Hunan chicken. Otherwise other dishes are average. The prices are slightly higher than average too. I would go back just for their Hunan chicken.

Brittany

Google
Hainan chicken was really good! We also ordered seafood fried noodles and seafood fried rice. The shrimp was pretty fresh. They were kind enough to accept our special requests for reduced sodium. The staff are very friendly despite being busy.

Honeybread_ Everything!!

Google
I love this place!! The staff is so friendly and willing to help when you ask questions. I definitely recommend trying the Beef Chow Fun, the French Style Filet mignon, and the iced Jasmine Green Tea (Sweetened) :3

Delicious and amazing. My first time eating Chinese food in LA and it was absolutely delicious!

One of the best and most authentic vegetarian restaurants in HoiAn. Love the food, very welcoming staffs and cleanliness.

Yelp
So... I live across the street and I've never ate here. I typically eat at Cyndi's kitchen and Mama Lu's regularly for Chinese cuisine. On New Year's Eve I could not find a restaurant open. I ordered over the phone. The food took roughly an hour to receive. The restaurant was actually very busy for NYE. While I waited they gave me a free tea, offered me some food while I waited. The service was great and the staff were amazing for a busy night. Now to the food... I was worried because I'd never ate here and it was never on my list to try. Wow!!! The food was delicious. I was surprised how good everything we ordered was. Honestly, I don't write too many reviews. But this place hit the mark with service and food quality. The interior of the building looks clean but it's older. Nothing special. Plain yellow walls standard small family owned business restaurant. Our order; Garlic green beans 8/10 Orange chicken 9/10 House Noodles 8/10 Kung pao chicken 7/10 Steamed rice 8/10

Yelp
Placed an online order in the morning through their website for pick up. I don't recommend placing the order online, but calling instead. We arrived a little after pick up time and they didn't know we had placed an order. Had to wait 20-25 minutes for them to make our order. (It was a large, 6 item order.) They were apologetic and kind, but had to double check things a couple times. Inside was clean and had a constant flow of customers. The food was great though!

Yelp
I had no idea that there was a traditional chicken rice store located in the city of Hacienda Heights. I have passed by this plaza hundreds of times when I use to live in La Mirada and cut through by using Colima Road. Never once did I have it until recently a friend wanted to have lunch and decided to pick this place. The parking lot is quiet and everywhere seems quite empty for lunch. This place is small but they were receiving phone orders while we were eating. About four different groups came and also had lunch. The chicken rice is delicious. I love their sauces that they give you. It is nice and this to me is a very traditional Asian style chicken rice. So if you are in the area I would say come give this place a try.

Yelp
Cocoin Kitchen used to be my favorite Hainan chicken restaurant. However, we were disappointed with their Hainan chicken and wonton soup this time. We ordered the following on last Friday: -#10 Hainan Chicken rice $14.99 -#22 wonton soup $16.99 -#11 Hainan steamed chicken (half) $19.99? -chicken flavored rice (one big bowl) $3.5 Their Hainan chicken-flavored rice used to be very tasty and addictive. We were disappointed with their chicken-flavored rice this time because they were not flavorful and too dry. It tasted different than before. Their Hainan Chicken meat used to be more tender and smooth. They gave us less chicken meat from the Hainan steamed chicken (not much chicken meat from the #11 order). The wonton soup also tasted different than before. The broth was so bland and the pork meat inside of the wonton was flavorless. I also found a shrimp shell inside one of the wontons. My daughters used to like their chicken-flavored rice a lot. They kept saying the taste was different than before. Not sure if they changed the chef but it did not taste as good as before.

Yelp
Cocoin Kitchen is a neighborhood spot that has great selection for classic Chinese dishes, particularly Cantonese style. The staff is friendly and remembers me everytime I go for take out. Prices are reasonable and the portion is generous. I would recommend this restaurant and would continue my patronage there.

Ryan S.

Yelp
The food here is delicious and the service is excellent! One of the better Hainan chicken dishes in this area

Sarah L.

Yelp
I love their chicken rice noodles. It's light and healthy. And hainan chicken rice is awesome too

Mike C.

Yelp
I picked this restaurant because of the food rating. I ordered Fish in Garlic sauce. When my order arrived, it didn't look like it. I asked the waitress if the chef made a mistake. She checked and said that it was fish in garlic sauce. This was the WORST Chinese's fish in garlic sauce I've ever tasted. The food didn't even taste like Chinese. To make matters worst, I should have known better. There were no other customers during the lunch hour. How this restaurant got such a high rating is beyond me. Never again !!!

Jon C.

Yelp
If you're looking for authentic Cantonese/Food off the beaten path (on the west side of HH) without having to compete with all the traffic (between Azusa Road and Nogales), check out Cocoin. It's run by a really cool couple. I'd say their food is definitely a strong 4 but their service and how nice they are bumps it up to a 5. There's plenty of seating inside. It's not huge but if you need tables for large parties of 8 to 10, they have those as well as smaller tables for parties of 4 or 6. There's plenty of parking outside. I've visited numerous times over the last few years and I'd say everything we've eaten so far from beef chow fun to hainan chicken hovers around 4 stars. Their hainan chicken is bone-in unlike Cluck 2 Go. Their portion size like their pork chop dishes (i.e ging do pai gwut) is a really good value (especially now a days) and their wok hay for their stir fries and chow fun is good. I particularly enjoy their herbal drinks which can vary from day to day.

Yelp
This place is hidden and worth finding. Love coming here to grab to go and make it a easy dinner and movie night.

Yun C.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! The dish to get here is the Hainan chicken. I came here a few times but always eat my Hainan chicken dish right away and forget to take a picture. Actually all their chicken dishes are delicious because the chicken is so tender and flavorful. It really reminds me of the Hainan chicken in Singapore! I have yet to see someone come eat here and NOT get take out after eating. It is so good that you just wanna share with your loved ones. The service is pretty fast too. It can get hard to flag someone but once you get someone, everything moves quickly and you will eat in no time. Sorry savoy kitchen cannot compare to this place . The chicken here is way better! Whenever I wanna eat Singapore quality Hainan chicken, I come here for sure!

Eliza L.

Yelp
There is calming oriental music and the place is nice. The service is good. The Hainan chicken and flavored rice is really delicious. The chicken is soft and juicy. The Salt and Pepper Chicken appetizer is very savory and crispy as well.

Gardenia B.

Yelp
LOOOOOVE this place. It's a small local business and gives off very homey and I love it. They always have the best food and the best service! I can't tell you how many times I've been here. My parents LOVE coming here and I've grown to love it as well. I have SO many favorites from this place, but the ones worth mentioning are the hainan chicken with rice, the laksa, french style filet mignon, and the bitter melon chicken with egg. OH, their honey garlic spare ribs! Those are good too. They have this special cranberry drink (I forgot what it's called!) but it is soooooo good. Super sweet so beware, but so yummy! Just go with an open mind and willingness to share and it'll be an awesome time. :)

Supardi D.

Yelp
This is a nice restaurant in the back corner of a strip mall. Not very visible from the street. They have a delicious French Style Filet Mignon/Bo Lu Lac. As entree or meal with tasty Red Rice. The beef is very tender, juicy and sweet. Their signature Hainan Chicken Rice is savory. The chicken meat is tender, rice is fluffy and tasty. Ginger Chili Sauce/Condiment is so good and not spicy at all. Portion is right size with reasonable price. Price increases a bit to mid $15. Today the beef have more fat than usual. Lots of regular customer, especially for to go. Including us. We usually buy for to go. Dine in is open now with full regular table setting. They have Barley Drink, made in house. Refreshing drink in the hot weather. Overall, good authentic Chinese restaurant with reasonable price.

Yelp
After looking at the food on yelp, myself and a few friends from high school came here as a mini reunion of sorts. Despite the cars parked in front of the place, there was no one in the restaurant after 12pm on a Saturday. It could've been because it was right before New Years Eve and it was raining? Some of us craved soup and ordered the chicken soup with noodles. I had hot pot recently so I ordered the Hainan chicken rice. The menu showed a difference in price for dark and white meat. When I told the waitress I only wanted white meat, she said it was a mix of meat anyways. So why the difference in price? We even got the spicy ginger sauce and the green ginger sauce for our meal. It was delicious, meat was tender and we ate it all up. My friends who got the soup had a HUGE bowl. Definitely worth the money. The restaurant did pick up a bit right before we left. Worth checking out.

Chloe H.

Yelp
The chicken dish is so good, we ordered a scallion chicken and the chicken in the soup (forgot the name ) both are really tasty, recommended to everyone !

Anita C.

Yelp
I love their Hainan chicken. It's the best in town. I always ask for a whole chicken, deboned, and the price is very reasonable. They always give extras.

ToRo G.

Yelp
The best Hainan chicken rice I've ever had. My friend ordered the kungpao chicken and he liked it also. The waitress was very nice and attentive. I will come back next time to try other items on the menu.

Wall-E N.

Yelp
Food always taste great, 10 Stars if I could. Orange chicken is my favorite because it's crunchy and doesn't get soggy like other places.

Linh T.

Yelp
I have not had a chance to dine-in at Cocoin. I had the pleasure to tried their food at home gatherings. Their Hainan Chicken Rice is the best. The chicken had all the bones removed which I love. The flavor of the rice is just right, the texture was soft and not too oily. Also loved their salt and pepper chicken wings. And their Poon Choi had the most ingredients out of all 3 other restaurants that I've tried. Price was very reasonable.

Tim E.

Yelp
First time going in for a sit down meal. I had to try the Hainan chicken over rice. Lunch special. It was pretty good and I'll definitely come back and order to go in the future. I also order the sweet and sour HK style spare ribs which I've ordered in the past to go. That was also a winner for my mom when I dropped it off. The chicken over noodles was on the bland side my friend stated but she enjoyed it anyways because of the ginger sauce that was included. I'd like more of the ginger sauce next time myself but it's all good the chicken was tender and rice was tasty. The string beans were okay nothing to write home about.

Ana M.

Yelp
This place hit the spot after my mom and I were famished from a day of errands. We were skeptical at first because a plate of vegetarian chow mein cost $17 after tax. But they really put in a lot of vegetables: broccoli, Brussels sprouts, etc. And the plate was HUGE! And it tasted so delicious that my mom and I nearly finished all of it in one sitting. I can tell many of their vegetables are fresh; one of the owners was cutting fresh green beans by hand when we came in. They forgot to include tofu in the dish when I asked, though, but nevertheless it was worth stopping here for the chow mein.

Jonathan F.

Yelp
Not sure what the hype is about. Based on the reviews, I tried the hainanese chicken rice. It was mediocre. The rice was bland and the chicken portion small. There was no accompanying soup. Friendly boss lady.

Henry L.

Yelp
Seems best Hainan Chicken rice thus far in San Gabriel Valley area. Dark meat chicken rice perfect with their delicious sauces! I've always order Togo and they taste great event put in the refrigerator for 2 days! Lol ! Services are prompt and fast.

Alix L.

Yelp
I really want to see this place do well but it seems they don't always have certain items during lunch- lunch menu differs from dinner menu. Also for -$3 lunch special hours you have to remind them otherwise they charge you. Didn't have the sweet and sour pork for lunch (dinner item only and this one chicken dish) so I went with the recommended (Orange) pork - it was a good and well done dish with rice for $15. Native Canto workers- short staff during lunch rush

Enning C.

Yelp
The Hainan chicken rice was so good. Walnut shrimps with sauce was also great! I will definitely come back again to try other dishes!

Deedee T.

Yelp
Food is good and up to standard and I usually come here for pick up order as there is no service in this restaurant... mostly for to go ... Chicken rice is with good portion ....

Lou G.

Yelp
Went here specifically for the hainan chicken rice. It's a hole in the wall small place tucked into a corner of the plaza. The staff was very nice. Food came out in reasonable time. Onto my review on the dish: [Rice] Rice was perfect wasn't underdone nor too much water to make it mushy so it was great. The flavor is excellent. [Chicken] I always opt for full dark meat and each piece was delicious made just right. [Sauces] Loved both the orange garlic ginger and ginger scallion sauce. Didn't see the black soy sauce. [Soup] Glad to have soup with it not all places will give you soup on the side. It tasted good. Final takes would be portions aren't that big and prices is a bit on higher end especially if you opt for dark meat but because each time I ate there it was a satisfactory experience I didn't mind it as much. It's a bit far from my work and home but when in the area definitely always take the chance to stop by for a meal.

Leslie Y.

Yelp
There are so many "kitchens" in the restaurant world--Tasty Kitchen, China Kitchen, Aunt Ma's Kitchen, but nothing evokes of home cooking like the food at Cocoin Kitchen. It's one of the few places that actually deserves the title. We ordered Mapo tofu and stirred fried string beans, neither is their specialty or even Cantonese, but both turned out so well-prepared and tasty that everyone in my family stuffed ourselves silly with them. We also ordered their famous Hainan chicken, and that's no joke either. I wish they had more variety of sauces for the Hainan chicken, but that's picking bones from an egg. Service was not only prompt and friendly, but it was also very sanitary in this brave new world of COVID. They do accept credit card, which is always nice for an Asian restaurant in Rowland Heights.

Nancy T.

Yelp
Awesome food and service! A family favorite. Recommend the Hainan chicken, beef noodle, and shrimp fried rice.

Rebecca L.

Yelp
A delightful new find -- a hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant with surprisingly delicious Cantonese dishes in a less crowded part of Hacienda Heights. We ordered: *Salt & Pepper Bean Curd (Fried Tofu) 椒鹽豆腐* - 5/5 Freshly fried without being too oily *Hainan Chicken 海南雞* - 3.5/5 Half portion comes with a bowl of rice, of which we chose the chicken oil rice. Strong flavor of sesame oil. The dark meat was tender, but the white meat was on the dry side. Some parts, e.g. around the wing area, was saltier than the other parts. A lot of reviewers ordered with noodles instead. *French Style Filet Mignon 法式牛柳粒* - 4.5/5 The beef was very tender; it was probably treated with baking soda and water and washed properly so there is no nasty after-taste. The beef was slighly crispy with a very nice sweet sauce. I think there can be a bit more basil, but we enjoyed every bit until the very last piece! *Beef Brisket in Hot Pot 柱侯牛腩煲* 4/5 Very tender meat stew with vegetables to soak up the sauce. I wish there were more tendon than the meat. *Fried Rice Noodles with Beef 乾炒牛河* - 4/5 There were more bean sprouts than rice noodles, but the imbalance was quite refreshing and less stuffing in the stomach. I also ordered the Lime Barley drink (3/5) -- it was ok but no refill. Note that the place was short-staffed: only 1 waitress, 1 chef and 1 kitchen helper. The restaurant had equal share of dine-in and take-outs, so be prepared to wait either way.

Jordan C.

Yelp
Good food with friendly service. What one would expect. They're very kind to my kids which I appreciate.

Yelper Y.

Yelp
The best hainan chicken in the entire LA area! Not sure why Cocoin never pops up when I Yelp for hainan chicken and I always have to type its name to search, but the taste and quality of their Hainan chicken and other dishes are unbeatable. Not only that, the service is so friendly and helpful. This is one of our regular go to places and they have never failed the high standard

Andrew B.

Yelp
Friendly staff. I always order the Hainan chicken rice meal or the fillet mignon cubes with red rice.

Jan C.

Yelp
Ughh they were nice They forgot about me for a whole at the beginning. The Hanian chicken is way overpriced . Overall OK with high prices for being a little hole in the wall

Steven H.

Yelp
Great place in Hacienda when you're in the mood for some cantonese food. First time here and tried 3 of their dishes. Laksa - curry soup noodles X.O. Sauce string beans Hainan chicken rice All 3 items were good but the one that i enjoyed the most the the Hainan chicken rice. Parking here should not be a problem being that they are located in a huge shopping center thats pretty desolated.

G T.

Yelp
I like their Hainan chicken rice. Since I didn't order any other food, no comment. Their service is good.

Aliza C.

Yelp
Long overdue review. This restaurant is located in the corner of a large plaza with ample parking. It's my go to restaurant for specific take out items: beef chow fun, house special noodles, and wor wonton. I've tried other dishes but these three are solid and much loved by my kids. Since we have a peanut allergy in the family, I very much appreciate the customer service here. The lady will always verify with the chef and reassure me, even though I order the same items over and over. She too wants to be sure in case there were ingredient changes. We always enjoy what we order here because flavors, quality, and generous portions are consistent. I highly recommend the dishes we order.

Derrick K.

Yelp
I used to come here quite often but the last time I came the prices were raised and everything was in takeout containers. The food is pretty decent, but the area can is poorly lit at night and the restaurant is like an old school Chinese restaurant cafes. Service can be a bit slow since they typically understaff, but I think the main complaint is the increase in prices and the takeout containers which ruin the dining experience.

Peggy F.

Yelp
5 Star. Overall. Been coming here for years now, located in a remote corner of a pretty abandoned plaza that no one visits, but the food here is consistently pretty good and homey. A mom-and-pop feel. Known for their Hainan Chicken Rice and Soup dishes, they make it pretty well, close enough to the super popular Savoy located in Alhambra. It's satisfying enough for me not have to drive down there. This place has a Cantonese twist to the dishes. We ordered numerous dishes for large party lunch a few times and all the dishes are delicious. Only once, the soup was too salty. All other times, satisfying. Can request for no MSG, but they do use chicken broth as substitute. Good place to call in and pick up to-go food after work and forget cooking dinner. A friend of mine orders to-go 2 to 4 times a week... Friendly owners. The owner lady is super nice. When I had a young infant, she told me to phone in my order next time and she can deliver my order to my car so I don't have to come down on a raining day with a baby in hand. That, is true customer service. Definitely under valued and deserves more popularity. But I don't mind. I love not having to wait for seats here on the weekends.

Binh L.

Yelp
Great friendly service and great food in Hacienda Heights! The owners are cheerful and helpful.

Dirk B.

Yelp
One of the most busiest day for Chinese restaurant is on the Chinese New Year's Eve because traditionally this is the day for a reunion dinner with family and relatives. Since this year all restaurants are closed for indoor dining, most people like me will want to get a nice takeout dinner and head home for the reunion dinner. I call them 2 weeks ahead with my custom made menu with food that has symbolic meanings, Poon Choi (盆滿缽滿) , Pork Knuckles (橫財就手), Steam Fish (年年有餘), etc. Each take out tray was well presented and packed, not to mention they are perfectly cooked and tasty. It is just like restaurant dine in style at home. As I already anticipate a busy night for Cocoin Kitchen, there are at least 7 to 10 customers waiting outside, but the owner and staffs handle the crowd very well and most of customers there like me are regulars which the owner Emily know by name. Good food and friendly service is what brings me back to Cocoin Kitchen for many years.

Karen C.

Yelp
Interesting little establishment in the back corner of the shopping center, not much to look at but the food was pretty good. The food was authentic Chinese, and definitely acceptable to the taste of my parents. We ordered a chow mein, which was pretty standard but still tasty, and sauteed vegetables which paired well with the chow mein. The food was tasty and we'd return to try some other things. The dining area had only 3 tables because it was still on COVID protocol so it didn't have very many tables, so a lot of their food was for take out and most people just picked up food. It seems like it would only have like 8 -10 tables if we weren't in COVID, so it's a small cozy spot for sure.

L T.

Yelp
First time visit this nice little place near the Hsi Lai Temple. The chicken wings were fried to perfection and the quality is fresh & good - so tasty. Was going to try their braised pork but were out. The lady boss is very friendly and accommodating. Will go back for sure to try the Hainan Chicken and other dishes.

Sandy E.

Yelp
Food at this place is really delicious. No complaint. The waitress/owner is really nice too.

Becky S.

Yelp
Love the shrimp fried rice. Always my go to. Fast friendly service. Many other food choices but the rice is my favorite

Sophie D.

Yelp
This is my go to spot when I'm in LA. Been going here for years. Tried most of the dishes on the menu. Everything is fresh, authentic and delicious. My favorite dish is the Hainan Chicken. Drinks are also very good here. Emily is very friendly and sweet, always provide excellent service. Recommended this place to my friends/ family and they love it. Definitely will continue to support her restaurant.

Ray L.

Yelp
This is a place like many other restaurants in San Gabriel with a cantonese-style dishes. They do have a lunch special offer, and many popular items like kung pao chicken or orange chicken are available with a side of white rice. Prices are fairly reasonable, and the taste is the food is on par with other restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant!

William L.

Yelp
They serve very good food. Foods are very tasty. Can customize how salty and oily you want. Emily is a good server. Talk to you nicely. Quiet place.
