"Coconana, run by the chef Hanh 'Hannah' Nguyen, has been operating out of the downstairs kitchen of 390 Social during the bar's off-hours since late February. From out front, the only indicator that there’s a restaurant on the premises is a small sandwich board propped up out front advertising grilled chicken banh mi and pea flower lattes. Step inside, and Nguyen will emerge from the basement to take your order. She makes banh mi in a half-dozen fashions, though probably not the ones you’re thinking of. Her sandwiches are soft, not crusty, falling somewhere between a canceled Martin’s potato bun and a hero roll plucked from a bodega display case. The classic cold-cut version is made with slices of ham, pork roll, pork liver pate, pickled daikon and carrot, cucumber, jalapeno, cilantro, and mayonnaise. Nguyen finishes the sandwich with slices of pork jelly, made by combining nose, ear, and tongue meats with collagen, refrigerating the mixture in a metal can for shape, then slicing the log into soft discs of meat that crunch with cartilage." - Luke Fortney

The coolest new addition to park slope’s 5th Ave. The setting couldn’t be more chilling, the food couldn’t be more delicious. I totally loved the vibe of this little green escape at the heart of the city. I had the Matcha 🍵 cold tea, the banh mi, the cold cuts, the pork needle and the beef pho 🍜 The Vietnamese coffee at the end was memorable 😊 It was a real feast. I loved it. It is open during the week from Monday to Friday 11-4.

I just had the chicken pate chaud and it was delicious!!!! Perfect little afternoon snack. They have a full Bahn Mi menu. With grilled chicken, chicken meatballs, grilled pork, lemongrass tofu, fried egg and a cold cut Bahn mi with ham and pate. I look forward to coming back for more sandwiches They're in the gorgeous 390 Social space during the week from Monday to Friday 11-4 with food and drinks like Vietnamese coffee, hot or cold also peach iced tea, lattes, etc...

My favorite cafe to catch up with friends, bring my laptop to get work done, or read a book. It is spacious, quiet, and the seats are very comfortable. The music is always very good and the atmosphere is cozy. Such a calming space. Hannah, the owner and chef, is very welcoming, friendly, and attentive. By far, Coconana has the most delicious Vietnamese coffee and I cannot start my day without it! All of their banh mi is so amazing but my favorite is the meatball - it is perfection. I highly recommend trying everything on the menu and supporting a local business!

This restaurant is beautiful inside and the server/owner was very kind and hospitable. I had high hopes for the food but was unfortunately disappointed. I ordered a tofu banh mi and a classic banh mi. Both were surprisingly small with not much filling on either sandwich. They didn’t taste particularly fresh. I wouldn’t recommended the food here based on my experience.

Really loved the softer bread style of banh mi from here! The bread was still toasty but the inside was pillowy soft. We've been to many of the "best" + local NYC banh mi spots (Banh Mi Saigon, Ba Xuyen, Saigon Shack, Hanco's to name a few!) but have struggled to find banh mi's that were as soft and balanced as the ones we had in Vietnam. Coconana was probably the closest to it we've found! Most of banh mi you'll find in the city is really crusty, shattering bread but sometimes SO crusty that it's difficult to eat. I also really loved that they had fried egg banh mi on the menu - we would have this for breakfast in Vietnam and this really brought us back. No pics because we devoured everything :) The owner is also so kind and made us a solid Vietnamese coffee. We'll be coming back!

Such nice people and I loved the food and coffee. The Vietnamese fried egg sandwich was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had! Yum!

Very welcoming, laptop friendly, and great coffee. The hours are limited (weekdays 11-4) but if they were open a weekend morning I would go much more often.

Great place for a Vietnamese coffee, and low-key/quiet place to work

Yelp
Coconana is a cafe in the day, but for one night each month it becomes an intimate date spot for an 8 course dinner! There are 3 appetizers, 4 entrees and 1 dessert. I tried their seafood tasting menu and it did not disappoint! 8 courses: Appetizers - hến xúc bánh tráng: Baby clams with rice paper crackers - tôm sống: cured shrimp with spicy lime sauce - súp măng cua: egg drop soup with crab meat and asparagus Entrees - gỏi xoài với cá chiên: pan seared king fish with mango salad - bánh xèo mực: cuttlefish sizzling crepe - cá kho ăn với bún: stew mackerel with vermicelli noodle - xôi cá: sticky rice with anchovies Dessert - rau câu chân vịt: seamoss jelly in coconut milk I especially loved the mango salad and king fish! The sweetness of the mangos paired really well with the king fish. Also loved the mackerel with rice noodles. I literally want to eat my fish with vermicelli noodles from now on. There were familiar flavors from the chili fish sauce and coconuttiness in the banh xeo (Vietnamese crepe) , but also many new ones like the anchovies in sticky rice and seamoss ube jelly! The seamoss jelly is a mix of ginger and calamansi too to get rid of the fishiness. Such a great way to end the meal - I need a tub of the dessert asap!! The menu changes every month to keep you on your toes. This incredible dinner has truly made me rethink how I can pair and incorporate more fish into my meals! I met Hannah, who's the owner and chef, and she shared her beautiful story about how her coastal hometown, Nha Trang, inspired each dish, from the first course to dessert! She is really sweet! The servers were also really friendly and I truly enjoyed my experience, where all the dishes were well paced. I would definitely come back to try the cafe!

Yelp
Food (5/5): - I got the Vietnamese iced coffee and the classic banh mi - Vietnamese coffee was really tasty! It was creamy and sweet, but not too sweet. It was perfect for a hot day! - Banh mi was also pretty good. Like others have mentioned, it's not as sweet as your typical banh mi but I still found it to be pretty yummy and savory. Service (10/5): - Amazing service! The server was very attentive to me and even offered to charge my laptop (I came there to work) - She was very helpful with all questions and very friendly in general Ambiance (5/5): - Very cute and aesthetic! - Laptop friendly - My only complaint is that there aren't enough outlets for you to charge your laptop if you want to come here to work

Yelp
The banh mi here is different from other banh mi places in NYC. 1) They do not put the usual sweet ground pork that's in every other "classic" banh mi. That's actually good because this is filled with other deliciousness like Vietnamese ham and headcheese. 2) The bread is small (think lobster roll size), crispy, and not too doughy. In terms of size and taste, this is closer to the authentic banh mis sold in Viet Nam than the larger variety you see in NYC--which resembles a bodega hoagie. The ambience here cannot be beat. Clean, quiet, extremely relaxing atmosphere. The Vietnamese coffee was strong, sweet, and creamy...exactly how it's supposed to taste. The little pate chaud was not a hit for me. The flavor was off to me-sour, and it's not supposed to be...so I wouldn't order it again. Their sandwich was delicious. The coffee was perfect, and the ambience is an 11/10, so this place gets 5 stars and I'd highly recommend it. Just skip the pate chaud.

Yelp
Where the beautiful relaxing atmosphere of 390 Social meets sandwich perfection, Park Slope has something really special. A speakeasy style event space, that also doubles as a communal work space that serves some of the best Vietnamese food in NYC. I ordered a Grilled Pork Banh Mi that hit all the right notes in perfect harmony. The fresh baked baguette encased; sweet and tender pork, the perfect crunch of pickled daikon and carrots, fresh cucumbers and cilantro, with an ever pleasant kick from jalapeños and Sriracha, and topped with creamy Mayo and pate you have a perfect bite. I also enjoyed the Vietnamese iced coffee. A sweet and creamy offering of pure caffeinated bliss. I look forward to coming back and checking out the rest of the menu, and the daily specials. Coconanas @ 390 Social is a MUST TRY!

Yelp
Sandwhich was so so small. Good flavors but more like a snack than lunch....ordered the lemongrass tofu and it was also very oily and had like 2 carrots in it. Try Hancos for a better bet. Restaurant itself was extremely hot and stuffy, not sure how anymore could eat there. So sad because I was so excited to check this place out

Yelp
Best viet coffee in NYC! The owner is super friendly and a great chef . The banh mi was good - not the most authentic but still very flavorful and doesn't leave you feeling heavy. The pate chaud filling is amazing and filled to the brim but the pastry could be flakier. The interior has nice greenery and green furniture to match. Overall very enjoyable and will go back!

Yelp
The owner is so sweet and attentive. They have excellent food and drink options. I highly recommend trying their boba tea it's quite unique :)

Yelp
What a delightful experience! We did a pre order of banh beo, banh nam, and banh bot loc, which were all delicious. Banh beo was a little thick, but given how hard it is to find in NYC without mung bean, it was definitely worth it. The fish sauce was chef's kiss good. We also tried banh mi, and both of options we tried were amazing, from the bread, down to the meat and condiments. The Viet coffee was super strong and tasted just like coffee you'd get in Vietnam. Also, the service was absolutely wonderful!
