I ordered Indonesian Fried Rice (with Fried chicken), and it was a huge disappointment. The chicken was overcooked so bad or ages ago to the point that the meat was black, hard, and incredibly tough to chew. It was one of the worst experiences I’ve had. The rice was passable but I would not say it’s decent fried rice. I wouldn’t recommend this place based on my experience. I ordered delivery.

First time here. Server was very nice. We didn’t wait too long for food. The pad Thai was very sweet. Too sweet. The chicken red curry was tasty. Could have used a piece or two more of chicken. The fried chicken was very good. I ordered chicken wings and got boneless bites by mistake. They were dark meat and delicious. That dish saved them with this review.

Good location. Easy parking. Good and fast services. Delicious foods. Authentic Thai foods. Affordable prices. Recommended for all families.

We have not returned into the restaurant to know if service is any better, but the food is still amazing (we order delivery often). Hence I am revising my rating upwards to 4stats. We’ll continue ordering from here for sure: the food is just very good! ——— Have to reduce my rating from 5 to to 2 stars. Food remains excellent, but tonight I got yelled at by the guy who assigns your table. My kids wanted inside but there wasn’t space inside. So I said, outside is ok. But then my kids wouldn’t go outside. So, when I went out to discuss the situation the server started yelling at me as he apparently he didn’t appreciate the 1 min wait while we sorted out sitting preferences. He thought I knew that the restaurant next door was also their property. I did not know that. That’s where they had tables available, inside. He did not apologize for yelling at me and I didn’t address this issue because I didn’t want to be punched in the face the same day. The guy has obvious anger issues. Needless to say that I will not return. This is a pity because we live in the area and this was one of my favorite restaurants. Here is my previous review from our first visit: This place is amazing. We were 3 adults and 2 kids and all loved our food. All preferences we’re satisfied: Vegetarian, mea eater, picky eater. Delicious. The “eggplant delight” was so tasty. The eggplant was cooked perfectly (smooth and creamy), the tofu was full of flavor and the sauce was yummy, not molasses like. So happy we found this place! Thanks to the owners and team for such beautifully cooked dishes!

Google
Indonesian fried rice and pad Thai are really large portions. Crispy chicken is juicy unlike most other Thai places which makes it awesome. The pad Thai sauce however is a little too much and thick. Lots of other places don’t use that much sauce. Chicken satay is a must have here.

Google
I really liked my Indonesian fried rice and the peices of chicken on top. I also really like the giant mural too. I really liked these vegetable patties that where really good, the texture where very savory. I also liked the the chicken on top of the fried rice cause it wassuper crispy. The soft shell crab tasted like the ocean. I also liked the beverage such as the the mago juice, a little sugary though.

Google
Such a great dinner for a great night tonight. We had fried oysters and coco bund with peanut sauce on top for appetizers and a real ground Chicken Thai hot basil, Pat Thai with shrimp for main dishes. For dessert we had mango with sticky rice and coconut milk on top. Everything so delicious.

Google
The lunch sets are perfect portion sizes (see pic) and good price ~$10. You get to pick a small app (I got spring rolls) and a main dish (got yellow curry). Super tiny inside only like 4 tables so be aware of that! The staff were really nice to me each time I went!

Yelp
Dined in tonight sitting on the Thai side of restaurant. My husband ordered the drunken noodles and was happy with portion and taste. The other four of us ordered ramen.. they share kitchen with ramen restaurant on other side. We all loved our big bowls of steaming hot delishessness ..two spicy, one vegetarian and one called dirty ramen. Our waitress was very pleasant and although it took a while to get our food, I imagine she was working both sides. Prices were very reasonable.

Yelp
Did a take out order online on a Friday around 5:15pm. We ordered Coconut soup with shrimp, Pineapple fried rice and Spicy basil with tofu. The soup is a small portion with 2 shrimp. Overly salty, but also tasty with nice lemongrass and cilantro and mushrooms. The fried rice is a decent portion. Two pieces of broccoli, which is stingy, plenty of onions and baby corn. It's both sweet and spicy. The spicy basil with tofu is very tasty, but not a large dish. Next time I would add more veggies because onions and peppers and carrots are not enough. The tofu is good and plentiful, but the pieces are very large, especially compared to the smaller cut veggies. If the tofu was half the size, it would work better. The dish comes with jasmine rice which goes very well with it. The prices here are lower than the local competition which is a plus and the food was ready really quickly. It's a solid B option, nothing wrong with that!

Yelp
Not bad at all - I stuck to the Thai menu and ordered the fresh summer rolls and the papaya salad. The rolls were neatly packed and I loved the peanut sauce that came on the side. I've eaten my fair share of papaya salads; this iteration had a good amount of fish sauce and rice vinegar in it, which I liked - though the dish could have done without the bed of cheap lettuce underneath. Both great items to get when it's super hot. It's pretty small, with only a few tables inside and three or four tables outside. And very affordable prices, particularly in an area with some $31-60 restaurants around. My two dishes plus my friend's curry came out to about $40 after tax. Free parking in the lot across the street after 6pm.

Ashley C.

Yelp
I'm surprised this only has 3.5 stars on yelp for a good and affordable Thai option in Boston! All of our dishes were solid, and I was happy to see fair prices. The restaurant is pretty small with only 3-4 main dining tables, mostly take out. I also got a Thai iced tea which was good and they have unique sodas. Overall this was a solid spot with great papaya salad that actually had a small spicy kick as well, a dish I do not see prepared very authentically elsewhere. Definitely a spot to add to your routine!

Jay M.

Yelp
Driven by a thousand times... stopped in as in mood for chicken satay... very good food,, prices very reasonable and look's excellent take out or delivery food spot... Ordered some apps and under 26 bucks total.

Rad N.

Yelp
They offer tasty food at a reasonable price with vegan options. My family all enjoy it.

Jillian O.

Yelp
If I could give it a zero, I would. WORST customer service ever. Made my order incorrectly and then refused to send me another one. Told me I had to reorder so they could make it again. EXTREMELY disappointed because we had ordered from here before. The women were so rude and gave me attitude when it was their fault for not reading the order.

ells w.

Yelp
Surprise, surprise ... waduh surprise! Walked by this smallish Thai café for the past ten years en route to other restaurants. Today, my bride went with a vegan friend and returned with leftovers. Shrimp Fresh Basil Rolls...fresh and tasty 40 minutes later... Plus, Shrimp Papaya Salad. Light and refreshing ...and get this, reasonably priced. All out of a tiny space - 3 to 4 tables with a menu big enough for a 60 seat venue. Perhaps, it's for the take out crowd. Their website seems set up to take orders off of the menu...however, not on the site the fact they are closed on Tuesday. What!?! We'll be back for more.

Yelp
This was a cute find on my rainy day exploring the Boston College neighborhood. Lots of eateries here for the studious. Despite being a cold rainy day, I was happy this place was available. On the small side compared to a restaurant but for a good reason. Small places tend to have the best quality food and I can say the expectations lived up. Got the Krapow Crispy Chicken on a bed of white rice and sweet and savory sauce with spiced stir fried veggies. This isn't a common Thai dish I see available in Thai restaurants but I'm glad my experimental choice worked and this was so savory and sauced. Had to eat it the moment this dish made out of the kitchen. Only one staff member was at the front and this place is tiny enough to service both diners and quick service takeouts. Highly recommended if you want some homely comfort Thai food in the Boston campus neighborhoods. And if Coconut Newton does well for a bigger space, I know they'll happily have more staff for their customers.

Fud S.

Yelp
Very friendly service but just average foods. Had the Indonesian fried rice ($11.95, just ok as the fried egg was cold on very hot fried rice), scallion pancake ($5.95, just ok, could not see any scallions inside the pancake at all) and dirty shoyu ramen ($13.50, not so good, seems like MSG broth, the cha siu was not fatty and the ramen is like ones could be bought at HMart, meh). Perhaps we ordered the wrong stuff? Or it is another nothing special restaurant...

Winter B.

Yelp
We ordered a variety of dishes from coconut Thai. Some we really liked. The pad Thai and pad see ew were great. The scallion pancakes were a little too thin and crispy, but if you like them that way then you would like these. I was impressed by all the indoor and outdoor seating they had. So if you wanted to dine in you could do that too. The owners were really friendly when I picked up my order and it was ready on time. They did forget one appetizer we ordered but it was no big deal and we easily got a refund after calling. Overall, it's an average Thai restaurant.

Alyssa Marie I.

Yelp
Cute little place, very affordable, good food. Keep in mind that the inside is small if you're looking to dine in.

Tyler S.

Yelp
I have been going to Coconut Newton with my girlfriend for almost four years. We've seen interior and menu changes, and a new collaboration with the ramen place next door. Their pad thai is our favorite by far, and I would recommend the regular pad thai, crispy pad thai, and country style pad thai. The service is friendly, fast, and attentive to their diners!

Madman M.

Yelp
Tough to beat the combination of great food, portions & and prices, and Thai Coconut has both. Been back 2x-3x & never had a bad choice. Definitely worth the visit!

Pauline S.

Yelp
Fried oyster was perfectly crunchy yet still juicy inside. Pad Thai was flavorful and not dry. Pineapple fried rice was really good esp with the crispy chicken yet again being crispy and juicy (the cashews in there also added to the texture). Had to knock one star off since we did find the pad see ew a bit too salty for us. Portions were decent (there were three of us that went) ended up with leftovers.

Kib L.

Yelp
Was really looking forward to some delicious Thai. Ordered cha shu buns, spring rolls, crab rangoon, pad Thai and Drunken Noodles. All the orders were all lacking meat. I was really looking forward to the buns and asked myself, "where's the pork?!". The spring rolls had no basil in it. The pad Thai didn't have the traditional spring onion and limes. The only decent thing was the drunken noodle. I love the name of the restaurant. I will give them that. Food was very "ehhh". Sorry to say, will not trek out to Newton for mediocre Thai.

Jeff C.

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of Tom Yum soup and decided to check this place out for the first time and get an cup of soup for a quick snack. I didn't specify if I wanted it for dine-in or to go, but it's a tiny place with just a few tables so I figured I'd just sit and eat from the take out container. The owner told me I couldn't eat from a take-out container in the store, so now I'm eating hot soup in my car. I noticed I wasn't the first person on Yelp that this happened to. Power trip much? The soup is OK, but I won't be coming back.

Steve L.

Yelp
Had a good meal here. It's a smaller restaurant, clean and pleasant. We had the drunken noodles with beef and the Massaman curry. Both were enjoyable, the ingredients seemed high quality, and the price was very fair. Our one suggestion is that they could have maybe bumped up the flavors and spiciness a little bit. (We ended up putting on some extra salt.) But we were happy with our meal and would come in again. Service was great, people working there were very nice.

Miriam E.

Yelp
Give it a skip! I stopped for a take-out lunch. Drunken noodles with chicken. Ready in less than 10 minutes when I ordered said it would be 20 minutes. They SERVE LEFTOVERS! Everything was overcooked! Suggest: when ordering take-out. open the lid and look @ it THERE! Take a bit! Send it back if it's sub-par!! So different from food the in-house diner were enjoying. I would NOT go back.

Victoria C.

Yelp
I came across Coconut Newton when searching for Thai food, so ordered delivery and the food was still piping hot when it arrived. We ordered pork drunken noodles, crispy chicken pad thai, crispy duck, curry puffs, and mango sticky rice for dessert. Both the noodle dishes were pretty good for taking out considering the noodles weren't sticking together (very oily dishes) and still captured great flavor and crunch from the peanuts and vegetables. I loved the curry puffs, so I'd highly recommend if you like a crispy flakey shell and a potatoey warm inside. The rice from the mango sticky rice was dyed blue, which is a great contrast to the mango color. Although mangoes are not in season, this mango was still quite tasty. Overall, a solid Thai food place that I wouldn't mind ordering from again!

Carolina N.

Yelp
Me and my family members always order delivery from you via uber eats, today I order take out in person and decided to eat it there, the gentleman at the register told me that we couldn't eat inside the restaurant, I thought that was rude specially after all the business we were giving you. NOT RECOMMENDED!

Julie B.

Yelp
Ordered a few things from this restaurant and all I can say is WOW. Some of the best Thai food I've ever had. The mango sticky rice is AMAZING. 10/10

Melena S.

Yelp
This is a cute, little family owned reataurant. There isn't much seating but there wasn't a wait on a Sunday evening. I got the papaya salad and it was very limey. I wasn't too impressed with it but it did the job. Their fried chicken, however, was great. It really held down the papaya salad. The crispy chicken entree and the duck entree were great tho. I'd recommend those!

X D.

Yelp
Pros: - pad see you is good - quick service at lunch time Cons: - seating area is a little cramped for dine-in - no or little heating during the winter

G L.

Yelp
Incorrect hours on their website. Wasted my lunch hour trying to go there on a Tuesday.

Mrs. P.

Yelp
Ordered takeout lunch from here last week. The shop is immaculate and the gentleman who assisted me was lovely. And the Tofu Pad Thai...perfect, not too sweet as it usually is. Drunken Noodles with chicken had nice al dente vegetables and a generous amount of tender chicken. The spring rolls were light and not at all greasy, as was the crab Rangoon. Highly recommended.

Allison B.

Yelp
Sadly this used to be a 5 star place based on over 17 years of ordering. But under the new management it has really fallen down. I'd say that 3 stars is generous. The fresh rolls are good but are now only 2 in an order not 3. The pad see ew used to be outstanding. Now it's just bad. No Chinese broccoli and the flavor is just fair. It is truly a bummer.

Laura C.

Yelp
We got the pad thai (decent, a little too vinegary), pad see ew (not enough flavor) crab rangoons (no complaints), and Thai ravioli fried (good taste but wish we got steamed). The chicken in both pad dishes was overcooked. Prices were very reasonable compared to other places in the area!

Yilbert J.

Yelp
Great place for lovers of Asian food, the flavors of the dishes are exquisite..!!!!!!

Aradhna M.

Yelp
Had a pretty bad experience. Food was not fresh. Greens were very old and yellowing. Hope they fix things soon.

Arta S.

Yelp
Perfect place for ramen and Thai food. I am being serious when I say there really good food there.

Kevin A.

Yelp
They tell you it will be ready in 25 minutes. It takes over an hour. While the food is OK, there are like three other Thai places in Newton Center area that are just as good, if not better, and seem to care about their customers. Just keep walking by....

Kyle K.

Yelp
I have no idea how these people are still in business. I feel bad about writing a bad review since they did their best to right their wrong but the padthai tasted like absolutely nothing. I had to drown my padthai in hot chili sauce to make it taste like something. Their tofu soup is basically hot water with tofu in it and their sticky rice portion isn't even enough to satisfy a newborn infant and it comes bunched up in a plastic bag and feels like putty.. They tried to right their wrong by offering us free food to replace the disgusting previous order so we ordered their -pineapple fried rice (which I rate 5/10) -coconut soup (3/10)

R c.

Yelp
I use to dine here years ago and always ordered the Chicken Pad Thai. They have changed ownership since and so has the quality of the food. I ordered a Chicken Pad Thai form their lunch special. My order took over 20 min. The food was terrible! Pad Thai is a noodle dish and it was swimming in liquid and had a strong taste of vinegar. It was not edible. I let the server know and they offered to "remove" the liquid and it would be sweeter. But the flavor was so off. I will not be returning.

Fabiola W.

Yelp
Divine Thai food! Our new go-to for Thai. We ordered from their website and delivery was quick. Delicious drunken noodles, coconut chicken soup and super crispy crab rangoon plus fresh spring rolls. We are super picky about Thai foods and this place did it perfectly. Yum!

amy e.

Yelp
I cannot overstate how awesome this restaurant is! I have enjoyed several different dishes recently and each experience has been excellent! The flavors, presentation and service are all 5 stars and the enthusiasm and gratitude that I have received completes the amazing experience!

Natalie W.

Yelp
Nice Thai restaurant in newton centre , we order crispy Scallion Pancake for appetiser , Chicken Thai Fired Rice and my favour Pork Pas See Ew. Yum Yum! Staffs were friendly too , it made my day:)

Karen W.

Yelp
This restaurant is in the same place as Coxonut Cafe was but under new ownership. We had a great dinner and thought the quality exceeded the former restaurant. The udon noodles in green curry sauce was delicious with a nice slightly spicy green sauce , tasty eggplant and fresh tasting udon noodles. and grilled chicken safe. The garlic special stir fry is accompanied by delicious crunchy, lightly sautéed vegetables in a tasty garlic sauce topped with a protein of choice. (We had tofu) Based on this visit , I think Coconut is am addition to the neighborhood.

Steve G.

Yelp
Unfortunately I don't recommend. I had stopped going when the previous owner had it for the same reason. It was excellent for a brief time when I ordered during the week. The weekends were horrible and I figured it was due to them being super busy on weekends. I confirmed this with someone else I knew who only went during the week. Now even when I order during the week the quality is terrible. Food is soggy or seems reheated or just not fresh. People that work there are really nice but the food isn't good. I'm not going there anymore and I don't recommend.

Hung T.

Yelp
Favorite Thai place in Newton center for me. Kai sub kapow- ground chicken, pepper and basil is great. Basil fried rice is awesome as well.

Andrew F.

Yelp
This is our local Go-To place for Thai food. Large portions with the containers filled to the brim, and they spice to your specification. We order by phone, and the food is ready by the time we get there (about four blocks away). Friendly service, too.

Alekhya C.

Yelp
My family loves Coconut- it is our go-to takeout spot, especially during the pandemic. Their noodle dishes and curries are great - my favorites are their country-style pad Thai and drunken noodles. Service is fast and prices are reasonable. A dependable little spot in the heart of Newton Centre!

Lynn B.

Yelp
The country style pad Thai (little spicy) and crab Rangoon are ok. I found the spring rolls, and Thai ravioli to taste only like fried oil and not the actual food. I also didn't like the chicken teriyaki skewers or either the chicken or pork in the pad Thai. I would maybe try country style pad Thai with something other than meat. I don't like enough to order from here again

Craig S.

Yelp
We live in the neighborhood and this is the first time we tried Coconut Newton. We ordered brown rice and got white rice and the pad Thai had no taste. I called them and to their credit, they apologized. But no offer to make it right. We won't be back.

LindsandBran I.

Yelp
So delicious I would literally sleep on a bed of scallion pancakes from this establishment. If I was stranded on an island honest to God in my heart I would pack the pancakes and the sauce it comes with bless up

Emily F.

Yelp
I can't say enough good things about this place. I bring all my friends from out of town. The inside is small but very cute, and obviously the food is amazing. I recommend the duck noodle soup and fried dumplings as an appetizer, and Thai iced tea as a drink. This place is always very busy with takeout and delivery orders, but I've always dined in for the full experience! The man who works the counter and takes your order is very nice and I commend him for the excellent customer service every time. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for hearty comfort food at a very reasonable price.

Young Hoon O.

Yelp
I ordered pad Thai from the lunch menu and was expecting a small dish for the cheap price but was pleasantly surprised by the big portions and the appetizer & drink that was included. I was very satisfied by the meal and would come again when craving Thai!

20Kelsey H.

Yelp
Great spot! Had the spring rolls, pad see ew and pad Thai with tofu - everything was delicious! Will definitely be ordering again!

Emily Q.

Yelp
I got the pad thai....yes i know very basic, but it was very yummy. It tasted like the basic pad thai and hit the thai food satisfaction I was looking for. My friend got the avocado curry and she also really liked her food! Will definitely be willing to come back here if I am looking to eat thai good again in the future.
