Walking up to the building, the aroma of the food cooking in the kitchen filled the air with the most delicious scents. I was greeted immediately upon entering -my order was placed online and ready to go on a Saturday afternoon within 15 minutes. The food was fresh aromatic and delicious. I’ve never been here before and this will be my new go to. I got the tofu spring rolls which were out of this world Fresh and delicious with all the flavors you want and ended up getting the red curry, which was plentiful a very large portion with a side of the rice, jasmine and some pineapple juice. I brought it to the summit overlook Park to have a little picnic, and my senses are delighted, and my tummy is pleased.

In St. Paul for business and had a craving for Thai. After looking at several places, I settled on Coconut Thai. We were immediately seated at a small table for two. The place was busy but not packed. The Curry Puffs and Spring Rolls caught my eye for starters. The Spring Rolls were fat, and the peanut dipping sauce was tasty. The Curry Puffs were a lot like samosas, but with a sweeter filling. They were smoking hot out of the fryer and had to sit for a few minutes before I could eat them. They came with a very interesting dipping sauce. The best I can describe is that it was like a mignonette with a hint of cucumber. Very good! For the main course, we ordered Pad Thai with shrimp and Thai Basil Stir Fry with chicken. The veggies in the stir fry were plentiful and cooked just right. The chicken was good but not spectacular. The Pad Thai had good flavor but could have had some heat, and the shrimp was on the small side and a little overcooked. The service was very good. The servers were attentive and friendly.

Google
service was friendly and really quick, most dishes were fine. the spice levels are less intense than other thai places. only item i didnt like was the thai tea. too sweet for my taste, probably because of the coconut milk. highlight was the seafood tom yom soup, so much squid 😋😋

💫💫😋 Walked in & the air 👃🏼ed delicious ☺️. Every plate contained extremely fresh ingredients, deliciousness w/every bite, & (most importantly) made w/🫶🏼! The thai curry was unique & not the typical sweet thai curry around town. Have to say it was perfectly made with FRESH ginger (notable in the curry dish) w/soft diced cooked 🥔s (a surprising & unique twist!💫🙂 Luvv the🫙mason mugs. Found it fun 2 sip the beautifully-made thai drinks out of 😌. Customer service was patient, refreshing, & outstanding to witness 👏🏼💫. & on a Friday night I enjoyed the vibes 🙂‍↔️ ~ When exiting, 4got 1 of the 🥡 boxes on the table. After sitting in the 🚙 4 quite some time, Charley caught up to my vehicle & returned the precious salmon & 🍚 to its rightful owner 🙂. Taking a chance to see if I was still out there in the wind or not 🥹. Thanks so very much y'all 4 the attentive service & the very fulfilling meal! 🍛💫🌌.

How can you rate this place anything less than 5 stars! This restaurant is literally a hidden gem! I came here for the 1st time yesterday, due to craving a type of Chinese cuisine. We settled on Thai. I ordered the Thai fried egg rolls, and the yum soup. Our order arrived very quickly and the food was absolutely amazing. The soup was the best I’ve ever had. It was very flavourful. I would absolutely return!

Google
The level of service we received was EXCEPTIONAL. While ordering, we asked to remove one of the ingredients from a dish. From that one request, our server asked if there was an allergy so that she could ensure we would be ok. After we told her it was just a matter of taste/preference, she kept that in mind and would mention when the ingredient was included in other dishes and asked us if we also wanted it left out of them. I’m not sure if I’ve ever had this level of almost consultative service before. It was amazing. And the food was just as good! The massman curry was the most flavorful I’ve had in the Twin Cities and the fried green beans are DANGEROUSLY good. Can’t wait to come back!

“I love the drunken noodles and the curry. The only downside is that the chicken curry is made with chicken breast, which makes it feel a bit less authentic.

Amazing Thai food! Everything comes hot and the portions are huge and totally worth it. Inside it’s clean, modern and a large space. We didn’t have a reservation for a Friday night but were able to get seated right away. I started with a Thai iced tea and we (party of 3) shared the chicken satay as a starter. The iced tea was perfectly sweet and the satay, which comes with 4 pieces was delicious. For my entree I got the pad see yew with chicken. They have a spice scale from 1-5 with 5 being Thai spicy. I ordered a level 4 and thought it was the perfect amount of spice, but I usually handle spice well. The portion was big enough that I had plenty to take home. Our waiter was very friendly and checked on us often. There’s street parking right on grand Ave or any of the neighborhood streets. Overall an amazing dinner and I definitely see myself coming back!

Yelp
We went back again last night for one final try here. But once again, the curry dishes had the tails on the shrimp. Not only were the shrimp very small, slightly overcooked, and very weak in comparison to other Thai restaurants in the area like Pad Thai, but they (still!) have the tails on the shrimp! There's almost nothing more unpleasant when you're trying to eat a bowl of shrimp curry than to have to pull every single tail off of each shrimp in the dish. It makes a huge mess, it's totally unnecessary, and it makes me never want to come to the restaurant ever again. I don't know why they wouldn't finish cleaning the shrimp in the kitchen. As I've noted previously, they do remove the feathers from the chicken, and the fur from the beef. But I don't know why they leave the tails on the shrimp? It's a horrendous experience and I will never come here ever again.

Yelp
I like the food here, we ordered pad Thai and tong ka. We asked their spice level and the server described they are Asian level spice so I ordered 3, but they are still pretty mild to our liking. I asked for a side of hot sauce and it never arrived. The server also never refilled our water and therefore taking off one star. we arrived around 11 AM on a Friday, the restaurant is not very busy, I would say about 4 group of guests. The tastes of the food was very good. The Tom Kah soup was very delicious. Creamy and thick. I love the mushroom and the amount given was very generous. Definitely is the highlight of the meal for me. The portion of each plate is very big, we definitely have lots of leftovers. We overall enjoyed the food and their flavors.

Yelp
My friend raved about this place and honestly I was underwhelmed. Wings - large and battered - different spin on wings but it was alright. Egg Rolls - They were good, probably one of the best things here! Fried Rice - Decent, had the chicken fried rice, should have went for the vegetable fried rice. Pad Thai - overly sweet, no one liked this, considered rinsing it off to help with the sweetness. But it just wasn't palatable. Drunken Noodles - Nothing to rave about here. The ambiance of this place was okay Service was not good, when we arrived there were barely people there and it took them forever to take our order. Also, what is up with the $3 charges for the meat?? There were $12 in extra charges for all of the chicken! Not the best experience..
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing Thai food! Our waitress was very pleasant and our waters were refilled often. I had red curry with chicken at a medium spice level. It definitely had some heat but had great flavor. Will definitely be back for more Thai food!

Yelp
Parking was limited, for some reason, I couldn't find the lot that people were writing about in the back but I was able to find street parking after a few minutes. We got huge portions of food, which definitely made us happy. We both ordered our own chicken satay dish, and the chicken was pretty meaty. He had the Tom Kha soup and we thought it would be a bowl but not a ginormous bowl that we got. Overall, everything was good including the quality. The service was excellent, they took our order and our food came out relatively quickly.

Yelp
Coconut Thai looks unassuming on the outside but inside you're met with a lively atmosphere and great food (not to mention massive portions). I got the young ginger stir fry with chicken which comes with a heaping side of jasmine rice and my partner got the pad thai with tofu. We both loved our meals and had no edits. The spiciness levels are true to scale so don't be shy. We ordered the stir fry at a spiciness of 1 out of 5 fearing that these scale would be pretty intense (it was not) and while tasty, more spice would have been fine. The pad thai was a 3 out of 5 and only marginally more spicy than the 1. The service was great. We received our food very quickly and the staff was eager to help. Great restaurant. Will definitely go back!

Yelp
It's a very modern interior! Kind of surprising because Thai places can sometimes be a bit dingy. The menu is significantly smaller than normal Thai restaurants. There's not hundreds of items... which I actually appreciate! The presentation for the Pineapple fried rice might be the best I've ever seen... it's actually served in the pineapple! The stir fry was very green and vibrant. You can tell the vegetables were fresh! The green curry was a little too sweet and creamy for my liking. The mango sticky rice is a Thai staple, and this one was absolutely delicious. Perfectly ripe s!

Yelp
I typically frequent the Coconut Thai in Edina, but I was closer to this area so St. Paul it was. Panang Curry - the curry was actually delicious. Unfortunately, someone either spilt half of its contents prior to packaging it up for me, or they deliberately filled the container less than halfway. I don't know which is worse. Veggie Egg Rolls - good I had an issue with customer service at this location which left a bad taste in my mouth. I will stick to my normal location, where I'm more familiar with their brand of bad service.

Yelp
We walked in Friday night without a reservation. They were busy but very accommodating. Our waiter was very helpful and the food was delicious. I can't wait to go back and try something else. The drunken noodles were excellent. Spicy!!

Yelp
This place was really really good. Their food is very fresh and the portions were very generous. The ambience is casual but a bit refined. The server was very attentive and friendly. The wonton soup and curry was delicious. I would definitely go back again.

Yelp
We do take out due to my heath concerns. It is very good! It reminds us if our favorite Thai place in Denver.

Yelp
The food was okay but anytime I go to a restaurant without n.a. Beer or wine it would have to be pretty great to get more than a couple of stars.

Yelp
Clean, modern, spacious and inviting restaurant located right on the strip with nearby parking. Food came out hot, fresh and beautifully plated. The dishes were really well seasoned. I will definitely be back!! Great menu and overall nice service!

Yelp
I think this place is great! Was very pleased with the Tom kha soup, I love the chicken satay here, and we have had good luck with the different curries as well. also fast and very competent with takeout food. A great neighborhood go to and a very pretty ambience inside the restaurant.

Yelp
The service here is awesome as per usual. Pam is so sweet and so efficient. The food is so yummy, we had the crab fried rice and they put a good amount of crab and egg in the fried rice. The Thai tea and iced coffee are also superb here! Coming back again and again.

Yelp
Great food!!! The Thai Fried Rice is the best in the Twin Cities! Pineapple Curry was wonderful! We highly recommend!

Yelp
We went to coconut Thai for a friends birthday last night. There was a 45 minute wait when we got there at 6:50 pm and it was packed until about 8 pm. After we got seated the service was a little slow with how busy it was and how many to go orders they were working on. For an appetizer we got edamame and gyoza. I have celiac and could only eat the edamame but it was good. Almost all of their menu was gluten free. For a meal I got the Chicken Pad Thai that was a ton of food for 16 dollars and I had a lot of leftover. Overall the meal was well priced but the service was a little slow. I would still come back and try more things on their menu!

Yelp
Was in St Paul and love their Edina location so decided to try to his one! We came for lunch on the weekend. Surprised that the lunch menu wasn't offered on the weekends. However, the menu is pretty much the exact same as the Edina location. Restaurant is fairly large but has a lack of parking- only street parking on Grand or side roads. Decided to go with their wontons, pad Thai and basil fried rice. Wontons were good- sauce was interesting. Definitely would go again for their pad Thai. Flavorful! Disappointed with their fried rice- love it at the Edina location, but this location it was extremely try and flavorless. Would be interested in trying their stirfrys and curries when we return. Staff was very friendly and attentive.

Jay B.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Was there with friend for dinner. Both of us said food was great. Prices very fair. Everything available as vegetarian option, love that. Friend had calamari stir fry. Also choice of how spicy. Staff knowledgeable and friendly. Only downside, decor and ambiance pretty generic. Also not a good place for drinks (alcohol).
google avatar

Tina A.

Yelp
Really delicious Thai food! We also ordered the Tom Yum Soup and a few other dishes. Will be going back for sure!
google avatar

Molly M.

Yelp
Ordered our meal choices to go-there is parking behind the building! Had a lot of different entrees (whole family) and everyone was satisfied. I didn't get the warm welcome that we usually experience at the Edina location but we were just there to pickup our food. Good Thai cuisine, not the least expensive in the are-but everyone in our family like their food.
google avatar

Kevin S.

Yelp
Food was really good. Came out quickly and was very tasty. Enjoyed very much. We had the fresh spring rolls, and cream cheese wantons for starters. The wantons are very small. You get six, but very small. Entrees were the pineapple curry and the squash curry. Both delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic. A weekday lunch visit - we both had the green curry with tofu and it was so very good. Service was fast and efficient. I'm getting old, so all the hard surfaces make the space a bit cavernous and echo-y, but other than that it was a fantastic experience and I will be back!
google avatar

Andrea K.

Yelp
I have been twice now and have really enjoyed the food both times! They were pretty short staffed and only had one hostess and one waitress for a Sunday evening. Even with that, the food came out relatively quickly. I this is definitely not your hole in the wall type place - most of the entrées are over $15 if you're getting meat.
google avatar

Tanu P.

Yelp
I'm extremely picky with my pad Thai but this place did pretty well in my opinion! It was a little too salty and missing a good tang that I think usually comes from tamarind. But super solid option! Cream cheese wontons also surprised me because of the sauce they came with. The sauce was on the sweeter side and I think used some cinnamon or nutmeg. Amazing! There's some parking in the back but it's limited so if you can I would just do street parking

Cassandra Q.

Yelp
Huge portions, great and fast service, delicious and authentic Thai, casual ambiance but upscale presentation. We are fans!

Yelp
Stop EVERYTHING ‼ Go here‼ Ok first of this place is very well done and super cute. But more than that. THE FOOD IS FANTASTIC ‼‼‼ We had various appetizers and pineapple fried rice... Chicken Satay lite curry perfection! Pork spring rolls nice and fresh Pork and veggie egg rolls lite, crispy Pineapple Fried rice mind blowing I'm not kidding when I say this all was so fresh, great dipping sauces and that pineapple friend rice served in a pineapple was perfection ‼

Yelp
Fresh, well prepared tasty food. Cleam space, good service..our go to Thai.. excellent selection of vegetarian dishes. We like the service Always very busy
google avatar

Yelp
The food here is pretty good and with generous portions. I highly recommend the curries. Service was decent. The only thing I don't like here is the interior design, but that has little impact on my experience here.
google avatar

Yelp
This was my first experience at Coconut Thai and I was craving my favorite dish: kabocha squash curry with chicken. Which is actually harder to find around the TC than I thought it would be; many Thai restaurants don't offer it. I love that this restaurant makes the environmental and financial commitment to provide nearly ALL compostable containers (I don't think the tiny sweet and sour sauce container was compostable). The kabocha squash curry with chicken is unbelievably flavorful. The perfect blend of spices and coconut milk. With huge pieces of squash and generous amounts of chicken and vegetables. The medium-spicy level had a tiny kick to it. I tried their cream cheese wontons and they are very good. I can't wait to go back with other people so that I can try more of their dishes.

Yelp
Overall, very good Thai in the city. Takeout is easy though no delivery option (at least via yelp) might be inconvenient for some. Plenty of options and the standard fare for Thai/SE Asian cuisine so you can't go too far afield. Ordered the crab fried rice and the curry fried rice. The curry fried rice was an impulse swapout for the thai fried rice (which looks pretty good, if conventional - so a solid starting point if you're new to Thai or looking to leave a general restaurant review haha). Being takeout, my enjoyment reflects on food that can be eaten 1ish hours after cooking and it's leftover potential. Fried rices are good for that, and both of these held up. Crab fried rice was a bit dry, perhaps as a result of being takeout, but on reheat/rebake with a dab of oil and water it was fine as leftovers. AND to put any doubts to rest, the rice contains crab claws just to drive home that yes, you got real crab meat. If it was slightly less dry on first tasting it'd have been perfect, but I was happy generally. Curry fried rice was eaten as leftovers, and I took the lesson from the crab fried rice and started with reheating in a pot with oil. It was similarly tasty as a leftover, holding up very well after 2 days in the fridge. The curry was a nice and first-time-for-me variation on the theme. Not a whole lot of heat, but enough to pass the leftover test. Will pickup-from again.

Yelp
An outstanding Thai place! I was here with colleagues a couple of months ago to celebrate something, and it was a great time. They had great food, great service, and while the decor is minimalist, it didn't detract from the quality of the experience.

Jeffrey Z.

Yelp
Is ok. Beware of raisins in fried rice. Should be listed. The food wasn't bad, but I wouldn't go again only for the raisins.
google avatar

Tiffany W.

Yelp
Fresh as can be! The Grand Avenue location is slightly hidden (not the greatest signage) but once you discover it, you'll keep coming back. I had my birthday dinner here and I've come back other various times because the Thai food is made fresh and served beautifully. The interior is clean, fun lighting, and they allow reservations. I've also ordered take-out before and the process is seamless. My go- to item is the pineapple fried rice, iced Thai tea, and cream cheese wontons. Note: when you dine in, the pineapple rice is served in a pineapple (so fun) but when you order takeout, no pineapple.
google avatar

Tony W.

Yelp
Fresh!!!! This place was great I loved it! Staff were very nice and the restaurant was very clean! We shared some appetizers and everybody got some thing different everything looked amazing and taste amazing! I will be coming back.

Yelp
We had seen the "Coming Soon!" sign for so long, but the wait was worth it! Our family ordered take out via online and it was so easy. The food was delicious. Put it this way. The husband thinks pad Thai is just "meh." tasting. Not any more. He loved it and has been raving about Coconut Thai to our friends. We ordered: Drunken Noodles Pad Thai Fried Rice Cream Cheese wontons Nice portion size also. So glad it's in our neighborhood in St Paul.

Yelp
Loved the interior of this Grand Ave spot. Wish I could say more about the food and service. With a vegetarian among our group we chose Coconut Thai for the many vegetarian options. We visited on a Friday night after 7pm. The dining room was fairly empty only two others tables besides ours. Took far too long to order. There were two young men at the hostess station, yet all the work of serving was done by the lone young woman. The curry puff appetizer while tasty, was a bit sweet; was expecting more or a savory taste. The best food of the night was the chicken wing appetizer; hot and crispy and super juicy inside. We had the of Thai and the drunken noodles for our entrees. I will say, the portion was very large and could easily be split. In fact, the table next to us ordered pineapple fried rice and it was served in a half pineapple, lots of foos there! The pad Thai was the tree so the two dishes. The drunken noodles were far too sweet. The bio of the chef was interesting but I wonder if she has altered the recipes to the tastebuds of America. If you are vegan or GF there are many options available.

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch. Nice little place with great food, friendly service, happy tummy.

Yelp
Great spot to grab some delicious Thai on Grand Ave! I had the Pad See Yew, it was very tasty and generous portions so I could save some for lunch the next day. Inside is very nice as well!

Yelp
Really awesome waitress who was so great even though she was so busy. I had super flavorful curry with pineapple and rice. Great place to go!

Yelp
The best Thai I've ever had. Ambiance is nice, not intimidating and casual. We ordered: - tofu spring rolls: not the best I've had but very refreshing. - pad Thai: had an incredible flavor, some of the best pad Thai I've ever had - pineapple fried rice: I'm speechless. We got it with brown rice and it was amazing! I wish I could eat this every day. You have to come try this place.

Marissa M.

Yelp
I love Thai food and I usually judge a restaurant on its pad thai, and Coconut Thai's is some of the best I've had, as are the fresh spring rolls, which are perfectly balanced with the herbs tasting fresh and not too 'leafy' (I've had a fair amount of bad luck with that at many Thai and Vietnamese restaurants in the cities). I've only had their food twice so I can't vouch for its curries or stir fried dishes, but it all looks pretty solid. I recently moved to St. Paul and this will definitely be a take-out favorite for me. A little pricey, but nothing wild (unless you're ordering through DoorDash). If you like Thai food, I highly recommend giving it a try. I'm excited to have this restaurant in my current rotation and get to try more dishes.

Yelp
A fantastic addition to the neighborhood. We learned about it after our beloved Supatra Thai closed and former staff moved here and called it out. It doesn't disappoint at all. So fresh, fast and delicious. We had the curry puffs (delicious and different than your typical appetizer) spring rolls (substantial and tasty) and the pad Thai, red curry and drunken noodles. Would order all again. We like spice (not Minnesota spice, actual spice) and "medium" was spicy but not too hot. Definitely check this out!

Pamela M.

Yelp
The ginger stir fry was delicious. On a scale of 1-5 on the spicy scale, the 5 was legit spicy. It wasn't too hot to eat but it had a great kick. The service was good. The staff were very attentive.

Yelp
I'd say 4.5 stars! Let me tell you why! The online ordering is clutch! Super easy!! And I love the time stamp, where to park, and email! Huge bonus for that! Spring rolls: (regular). Really good, and a different sauce.. not the usual red Thai sweet sauce. Highly recommend! Drunken Noodles: SOOOO fresh! The veggies were perfect! The chicken sliced extra thin... so it was super tender!! The sauce was good, and I'd order again... but I'd try to go with a spice level. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious.. but could have used more zip. Basil fried rice: very very tasty! The shrimp still had tails on, so that was odd to eat. The rice was perfect, lots of shrimp and a nice smooth flavor! I might ask for some spice on this next time as well!!! So.. YES! There will be a next time! With all the choices available... I'd have to say this is one of my favs! The restaurant itself is really cute, and EXTREMELY clean!! Enjoy!! I know you will love it!!

Yelp
The restaurant looked very promising, very nice interior with a modern look. We had the cream cheese wontons and the fresh spring rolls as appetizers - these were both ok. As main dishes we had the padthai and the pad see ew, good portions and reasonably priced. The Pad Thai was ok but the sauce was overpowered by the peanut flavor. Unfortunately, the Pad See Ew looked much better and more appealing than what it tasted. The tofu was well cooked but not seasoned, the noodles and greens had the right texture but did not have a lot of flavor. I did order the pad see ew mild, and maybe there is more flavor in the spicy ones but this one completely fell flat. I hoped to get more garlic and dark soysauce/oyster sauce punch. The staff was kind, professional and prompt. We did not have to wait long for food. Overall, its a shame that the mains were underwhelming as everything else had great potential.

Yelp
Awesome food. Quick and friendly service. Beautifully clean dining area, plates, cups, and silverware. Zero unnecessary funk or burnt taste in the food which is very uncommon lately. Highly recommended.

Aaron W.

Yelp
This place makes the best Pad Thai in all of Minnesota. Fresh, delicious, large portions and the staff is friendly and fast. The restaurant is clean and very well put together.

Yelp
I went in April and loved this place. came back in July and something was off with the curry ... but the stir fry we ordered was good. for the price won't return
