So we've been to Coconut's fish cafe in Maui and Kauai several times in the past, and we absolutely loved it.
Just a month ago we were in Kauai again and thought we'd go for lunch, but we discovered that it was permanently closed. Our hearts were broken, broken I tell you!
Sadly, we learned that many places permanently shut down due to limited tourism in Hawaii that first year or two of COVID. Boooooo!
The day after we got back from Kauai, we took a road trip to Scottsdale, AZ to see some friends. Guess what?! We see a Coconut's Fish Cafe! Say whaaaaat!
From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming and cozy, with that laid-back island vibe that we hadn't snapped out of just yet. What a gracious way to ease back into reality, slowly. Haha!
The staff was so incredibly nice. The restaurant was immaculate. The bathroom was SO clean. You can tell the staff was on top of maintaining this joint. Constantly cleaning up everything, everywhere.
But the real star of the show, of course, was the food. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The fish tacos were as good as I remember them. Dead lord. The mahi mahi was tender and juicy, and the homemade salsa was the perfect complement.
It was our first time getting the blackened mahi mahi and I was so blown away. The photo doesn't do it any justice. It was super yummy, even the brown rice and the coleslaw were so so good. Can't wait to get this dish again.
Meanwhile, we just gotta hope they open up a location in LA. Highly recommend this place!
