I wasn’t particularly impressed with the food here. The Wagyu Sandwich was a disappointment—it was overwhelmed by excessive mayo, sauce, and oil, which completely masked the flavor of the wagyu. I also tried the Mera Mera Soba Noodle Dip, and while it was decent, it didn’t stand out in any memorable way. Overall, the experience fell short of expectations. The service was great. I sat at the bar in front of the open kitchen. I couldn't help to notice the kitchen is a mess. The menu is extensive. I might go back to try other items on the menu.

I visited this cozy, 16-seat spot that truly serves authentic Japanese cuisine. The server was exceptionally friendly and well-versed in their constantly changing menu, offering some delicious options. I decided to try the roast duck ramen, but they substituted chicken for the duck. Despite the change, the broth remained incredibly savory and flavorful, and the generous portion of noodles made for a satisfying meal. It was a great experience, and I’d definitely return.

Best Japanese food I’ve had in New York so far - I savored every bite of my meal. Had the A5 Wagyu Katsu Sandwich (it’s a Menchi Katsu) and the Kamo (Duck) Ramen. I will most definitely be back!!! Note this location was cozy - seats I think 8- 10 people with their counter and one table. Perfect for small groups / solo / couples. They also have a second bigger location close by that I’d like to try.

Walking into the restaurant, I felt as if I’d been transported to Japan. A very cozy vibe with the friendliest service. Ordered the Mera Mera Soba, came out piping hot and was delicious. Can’t wait to come back and try more, highly recommend

Heard about this new spot and had to try it. I was looking for beef but didn’t see much (more pork and chicken dishes) so I got the large warm dipping soba kashiwa, a chicken dish. I was nervous about the simple ingredients but this was actually very flavorful despite being simple. I like that you can add toppings, I added pork and cilantro which was welcomed! The chicken meatball has ginger flavor and the grilled chicken thigh is also really well made. It had a couple mushrooms and some scallions. The size is about the amount of noodles, so a large portion was a good choice for me. It took my group a little while to figure out how to eat this properly, we dipped the soba into the hot (small fire underneath) broth. Super fun- if you like “playing” with your food this is a fun spot.

Sooooo good, honestly I feel bad for people who haven’t been here yet, the soup curry is a must try!!!!!!!!!!! And the stamina don, mama’s hearty soup, I’ve been to almost all the Japanese restaurant in New York, this one is one of those I kept going back!

The wagyu beef sandwich here is one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in NYC. The staff were so kind and welcoming. The vibes are great. Highly recommend.

An absolutely tiny hole in the wall with truly surprising and classic Japanese food. The service is quick and effortless. The entire staff was Japanese. We ordered the bacon covered enoki, the karaage, and two onigiri. Can't recommend any of them enough. Perfectly cooked, tender, and seasoned. The karaage was the standout, using all dark meat, double deep fried, and so hot and juicy I burned the entire roof of my mouth and have zero regrets. The onigiri with eggplant and scallions was the surprise sleeper hit though, and was a textual delight. Everyone was so friendly and obviously cared about the quality of the food and service.

My favorite place!! It's super snug and cozy inside and the food is cooked right over the counter from you. I loved every thing I have ever gotten here. But imo their star of the show is the Onigiri. It beats any other rice ball in the city and I've tried quite a few. The curry dish is also amazing. I just feel like I'm in someone's kitchen and they're cooking up a feast.

phenomenal! a small cozy shop that's bustling and full of heart. I came by on a Saturday afternoon and it was very busy, there were already a couple of parties in front of us. the place is a little cramped but it's cute and I love the homey vibes. the food was amazing and comforting. I got the cucumber, karaage, and curry soba. The cucumber was marinated with a sweet, sesame soy sauce and a great refreshing contrast to the other dishes. The karaage was fantastic-- came out piping hot, crispy, and moist. It came with a side of kewpie mayo, which adds a good umami flavor, but is very rich so you only need a little bit. The curry soba was so rich and comforting. Broth is thick and spicy and delicious; chicken has a charred smoky flavor; soba noodles were tender and slurpable. Even the scallion was flavorful and helped elevate the dish. The curry soba was perfect for the cold weather, heck I'd even get it when it's hot outside. Definitely try this place out, it's worth the wait!

Cozy and intimate spot, been wanting to come here for a while but never could seem to get the opening hours right. So glad I did today. We ordered a homemade tuna rice ball, the vegan dan dan noodles, and the japanese curry with noodles. All were excellent! The dan dan noodles were spicy. The service was very sweet too, it felt like we were in someone's home with them. So fun to get to watch the chefs work right from our table. We found out they have another location down the street, so will probably try that next.

This place is a gem! A hole in the wall sibling to Cocoron that offers a surprisingly extensive menu, an intimate atmosphere (seats only 8), terrific service, and delicious food for a good price, this definitely calls for a return visit. It's walk-in only here but on a weekday evening you should be able to get a seat. Bar seating offers you a close-up view of the chefs (2 when I was there) cooking up your orders. I believe the staff here are all Japanese (and super friendly), and at the end we chatted with one of them about touring Japan. The karaage here is amazing. Do pay extra for the spicy version; the chicken isn't crispy due to being doused in spicy sauce, so if you're looking for crunch then maybe ask for the sauce on the side. The meat is piping hot and so juicy. The rice balls are pretty large and good as well; my favorite is the yuzu salmon. The A5 wagyu sando somewhat reminded me of a burger and was a little too saucy for me. On another visit I'd try the millefeuille katsu sando instead. The chef caps the meal off with complimentary roasted green tea. I loved my experience here, especially talking to the chefs and watching them at work. Between the two of us it was around $60 total, a great deal IMO. Looking forward to my next visit!

Came by for a super late lunch on a weekend. There was one other person inside, but the space is super small, so it already felt crowded. The millefeullie katsu sando was delicious. The pork was crispy and juicy. The sauce was rich and a bit tangy and super flavorful. Shredded cabbage was fresh. There's extra sauce on the side in a syringe for you to squirt in. You can also choose if you want the sando to be spicy. Solid place for a quick meal. The sando was $11. Even if you got one of their heartier meals, I don't think it would run you more than $20. A great place to grab something to eat.

Small and cozy Japanese take out shop with a few bar style seats inside. There's a larger menu than I expected with a variety of bentos and wagyu meats. I came to try the katsu sando! They also have a chicken and wagyu sando as well. I wanted to try fruit sandos but I noticed that it's not on the menu anymore. You order your food first before sitting down. They serve you ice water as well. Katsu sando tasted really good. The katsu was so juicy but I would prefer less sauce. The normal sauce was good and the spicy sauce was a little too spicy for me. Staff was really nice. Would give the other items on the menu a try next time. It would be nicer to have more seating but currently it's really more suited for take out. * I didn't see a bathroom since it's such a small area so I'm not sure if they do (I didn't ask)

I absolutely love shopping at Cocoron Market! Every visit is a new adventure as I always find new snacks and sauces to try. The variety is incredible, and I never get bored of discovering unique items. The customer service is also top-notch; the staff is always friendly, knowledgeable, and ready to assist. It's become my favorite place for authentic Japanese ingredients, and I look forward to every visit. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys cooking or snacking on Japanese treats!

Everything was absolutely delicious here. The chicken is a really good size and super crispy and juicy. On the side it comes with a mayonnaise dipping sauce and a choice of white rice or multigrain. It's nice to have the option. The duck ramen has great flavor and I love the little duck pieces. It's not too heavy and has a clear broth. I really like this place because you can see everything that's happening within the restaurant. It's like a bar style restaurant so it's like a super small and cozy. Everyone is hard working and pretty friendly here. Recommend this place for yourself or w another friend or family member. If you have a larger party I recommend to go to their other location for Cocoron with soba.

This is an amazing spot. I've lived in Tokyo and this place competes with some of the best curry in Tokyo. I can't wait to come back and try the curry ramen and sandwiches. If you're in need of a comforting hot meal, you can't go wrong with Cocoron!

me and my boy stumbled across this spot the other day and it turned out to be the best decision of the day. Service was great, friendly, helpful. Ambience was present, the place has very nice decor and the dishes in which the food was served was real suave. Sandwiches 10/10, delicious almost ordered 2. Definitely hit this spot up.

It is a cute and small Japanese market. It has small selection of Japanese snacks, drinks, and condiments but I find the prices a little on the high side. I would suggest just walk a little bit further and go to Chinatown and grab the snacks at an Asian supermarket for less. They also have Japanese plates and bowls if you are looking to buy souvenirs or something to have in your house. I also noticed a small selection of Japanese beauty products similar to what you can find at Sunrise mart at St. Mark's Place. In the freezer aisle, there were some wagyu beef but when I opened the door and the meat was a little on the brown side so I don't think it is particularly fresh or maybe it is like that because it is imported? I have no idea. The cashier is super nice and polite though. I liked when you walk right in you noticed their display of fruit sandwiches ($5.99) and egg sandos ($6.49). Those would be a great snack if you are looking for something quick to eat.

So happy Cocoron opened a shop like this. This shop sells japanese snacks and groceries, along with sandwiches called "sando", onigiri and kakigori (shaved ice), bento box. The sandos options included the egg salad, kiwi, strawberry or orange sweet sandwich. Onigiris options: eggplant miso or beef. The kakigori flavors included either strawberry or matcha. We tried the beef onigiri, kiwi sando & strawberry kakigori & they were all so damn delicious! We were surprised how authentic and tasty they were. Highly recommend the beef onigiri, kiwi sando and kakigori. Will try their other items next time. The male staff who works there was one of the nicest and friendliest people we have met. They have outdoor seating. Next to the shop, they sell the cocoron noodles and appetizers. P.S - Cash only

Great to go japanese food! Ordered a spicy pork katsu sandwich and the meat was so flavorful. I'd be back to try the bento or noodles. There are a few seats inside and outside but can be stuffy in the summer your best bet is ordering to go.

We got a Kiwi Cream Sando and Strawberry Cream Sando and they were *chef's kiss* Apparently the cream is made over 10 hours so it makes sense why it was so fluffy and rich. The cream for the Kiwi Sando was tart while the Strawberry Sando was on the sweeter side. It was so nostalgic tasting a cream sando like the one's I used to get in Japan. I'm excited to try everything else on their menu. I also bought my second ceramic bowl there amongst their beautiful collection.

Cocoron Market is a shop that sells many things. They have gourmet take out foods (fruit (kiwi, strawberry or orange) or egg salad sandwiches, bento box, onigiri), japanese snacks & drinks, some home goods (japanese cups/plates, chop sticks, etc), groceries (frozen dumplings, sauces, etc). They also have kakigori (strawberry or matcha). I tried the beef onigiri, kiwi sando & strawberry kakigori & they were all very delicious! Highly recommended! Staff was also very nice and friendly.

Cute market offering mix of snacks, personal items, and fresh food! This market offers fresh food like beef bentos, fruit cream sandwiches, asian snacks, and asian skin care. It's a little on the pricier side, but hey, support small businesses instead of large conglomerates! We got a strawberry and kiwi fruit sandwich, as well as some snacks. We sat down outside to eat, and were brought teas on the house by the manager! Aww. Sweet people.

Delicious and surprisingly vegan-friendly hole-in-the-wall for Japanese food and groceries. Cocoron (the restaurant and market) has had a few different locations, and this new one on Delancey and Allen is a must-visit. It's a tiny space designed mostly for grab-and-go, although they have two bar stools if you do want to dine in. They have a few different vegan entrees; I tried the "vegan spicy summer noodle," which is a bowl of chilled fresh ramen noodles, fresh veggies, and vegan ground "meat." The gentleman who served me (the main chef, I believe?) actually warned me about how realistic the fake ground meat was, in case it would bother me to eat something so meat-like. Not to worry. I ordered it and had no regrets. I don't know what it was made of exactly, but it was so savory and packed with flavor that just a dollop on top was enough to make every bite of the bowl delicious. Other vegan options included a tofu appetizer as well as a "vegan taco noodle sandwich" and a "vegan spicy summer noodle sandwich" that seem to be similar to the spicy summer noodle bowl I ordered, but in sandwich format. For non-vegetarian options, they are known for their bento boxes. While you're waiting for your food to be ready, take a glance around their tiny but interesting selection of groceries, or chat with the staff who are funny, welcoming, and knowledgeable.

Cocoron market is right inside of cocoron and is a part of them. They sell Japanese snacks, drinks, condiments, green tea, ramen, plates and bowls. They also sell wagyu beef and washugyu beef. Tiny frozen selection of gyoza and some icecream as well! They had mochi and icecream bars. At the cashier section they sell fruit sandwiches, onigiri, and spicy karaage bento box. They also sold some Japanese beauty products as well like face masks, mascara, beauty tools, and stuff. I was interested in the matcha bowls they had and they sold the whisks too.

Fully maximized space with a really nice atmosphere and big flavors. Menu was comprehensive but not overwhelming. Weekly Specials were excellent, especially the Simmered Pumpkin. Very friendly service, as well. Can't go wrong with the Katsu Sando, but I'd definitely recommend trying out the specials - lots of creativity there.

Stumbled on this place and we took up 4 of the only 8 seats they have. Food was incredible. What an amazing dining experience. GO HERE!

Cocoron Market is a pivot during the era of COVID by the Cocoron team. Formerly, Goemon Curry, the inside is now transformed into a Japanese market filled with traditional goods like Ito-En teas, frozen bags of dumplings, various cup-noodle, japanese snacks, etc. What separates this from any other Japanese market is the fact that you can also purchase A5-Wagyu from the freezer, as well as, freshly prepared foods like Chicken Karaage Bento, Onigiri, and amazing fruit sando at a reasonable price! Though as of now, the market is cash only, its worth the trip for the fruit sando alone! I also ordered the Spicy Karaage Bento and was pleased. I look forward to expanded offerings in the future!

One of the best sandos you will ever have! + everything on the menu is a winner My Journey here: If you can't make it to Okiburi Ramen because of the long lines and if you are in the mood to add to must frequent spots. This is one of my favorite type of restaurants. The one where you pass by that has an interesting feel and uniqueness that makes you want to come in. Where expectations are low but you know the result will end up being enjoyable and memorable. It was exactly that. The intimate set up makes you talk with everyone in the restaurant! Had great conversation with the staff all the way through. It feels like vacation without the airfare. Shame I didn't take photos only videos this round. Will come back and update.

We had the karaage bento and the eggpant mabo bento. Both were incredible. The staff are fantastic and incredibly friendly. Please support them.

Cute market. Sometimes you need a little taste of home in NYC. This hit the spot. Their onigiris were very good.
