When you walk in, you may think you're in a high-end restaurant. But, once you look at the menu, you realize that the prices are reasonable. If you don't speak French, you will also realize that you don't know what most of the menu says. Fortunately, Cocotte has a menu in English upon request.
The service was a bit slow because they were understaffed for the number of people, but it wasn't bad. Everything came out at the proper temperature as the staff put together a solid team effort.
Mixed drinks were inconsistent: an Irish coffee packed a punch while a Long Island Iced Tea - while tasty - needed an extra shot of vodka to be right.
Things improved once the food arrived. The vegetable soup was a purée, not a chunky soup, but it was rich and savory.
The goat cheese salad was magnificent: massive chunks of breaded and fried goat cheese intermingled with lentils and a variety of greens tossed in a light vinaigrette.
The pizza was...okay. It looked the part, but the sauce lacked the kick of oregano that I expect in a good pie.
I was full after eating, but the raspberry macaron caught my eye. I'm not a dessert-must-follow-dinner sort of guy, but I had to try a macaron in France, right? Holy meringue this was mind blowingly good. The meringue had a mildly sweet crunch that worked so well with the syrupy goodness of the raspberries. Every bite was like angels singing. I was thoroughly stuffed, but I didn't want to stop eating. I don't know how to break this to my wife, but I think I'm in love.
One more day in Paris, but that macaron will haunt my dreams until I have it again. I wonder how many I can sneak past Custo
