Coffeelato - Review - Astoria - New York - The Infatuation

"Coffeelato sells just what you think they would in Astoria: caffeinated drinks and gelato. But they also have some Venezuelan and Argentinean empanadas, cachitos, and tequenos." - Will Hartman

Undoubtedly the best espresso AND service in coffee. Loren asks all the right questions and will not let you leave with a drink you don't love. Having experience with coffee makes me picky as hell but she does not mind at all. A couple of my favorite drinks so far: 1. Matchalato with vanilla and espresso chip gelato 2. Lattelato with vanilla and smores Gelato 3. DIRTY ICED CHAI IS THE BEST IVE EVER HAD! (Spiced it up in the fall with pumpkin syrup or pumpkin gelato)

I have never felt so personally taken care of or welcome in a cafe like I did in Coffeelato. Loren was so sweet and knowledgeable, telling me and my friend all about where she sources her gelato and snacks from. I had an absolutely delicious empanada. One of the best I’ve ever had. The cafe is obviously becoming an institution in the community. Loren takes the time to get to know her customers and makes seriously delicious drinks! I had a chai with cardamom. My friend had a s’mores affogato. I cannot recommend Coffeelato enough.

First time having a Portuguese Coffee ☕ super delicious and had deep dark flavor I love.... I couldn't help but notice the tequenos absolutely mid blowing fresh and delicious gooey stretchy cheese... Great addition to the neighborhood

This isn’t just a coffee shop that happens to sell gelato—it’s a coffee shop that sells coffee with gelato in it. When I first heard about this place, my curiosity was definitely piqued. I’ve tried affogato al caffè before (the classic Italian dessert of gelato topped with espresso), but what I saw on their social media looked a little different—iced coffee topped with gelato. I ordered a small Matchalato ($10) made with oat milk, vanilla gelato, and hazelnut swirl, plus a scoop of chocolate gelato ($7) and an Argentine beef empanada ($5). For the empanada, I had the option of corn or wheat, and I went with wheat. It came stuffed with ground beef and onions and I thought it was pretty good. I appreciated that they warmed it up in the air fryer. The chocolate gelato was rich and creamy—solid, though not the best I’ve ever had. The Matchalato, which is essentially a matcha latte topped with gelato, was the highlight. You can pick any gelato flavor, but I played it safe and got vanilla. The gelato gave this drink a velvety texture and enhanced the matcha flavor by tempering the bitterness of matcha. Maybe next time I’ll be more adventurous and try pairing it with something more unusual like their salted caramel chocolate pretzel gelato—something to look forward to. Overall, this place puts a fun twist on coffee and gelato. Definitely worth trying if you’re looking for something a little different. I loved this place! It was a great, warm welcome to New York. Lauren is amazing and has done a phenomenal job with the place. We'd definitely visit again next time we are back! That pistachio gelato actually tastes like pistachios, which is a really good sign imo. And the coffee and espresso was delicious.

Great, chilled and local cafe! Just wanted to grab a bite and a coffee, and this new place showed up as a recommendation! I'm happy I went here! The owner was wonderful, walked me through all my options and the coffee was fresh! (Unlike some other cafes that serve coffee that's been sitting.) The empanadas were delicious! And the fun options, such as a Banana Bread Prosciutto Swiss sandwich! So freaking good! While I was there, I got to sample all the various gelato flavors as well which was nice! Mostly, I felt like a customer who could enjoy my coffee rather than being rushed out. Great environment! Going back as my go-to coffee place now!

Great addition to the neighborhood, small women owned business that brings character to Steinway Street. I usually get my morning coffee or an afternoon snack. Everything is delicious and the service is exceptional. The owner is pleasant and extremely hard working. There is a great variety of food selections so you can always get something different daily. Greatly recommend this spot.

Whether you’re looking to unwind or get going, the ambiance is set for it. The coffee is out of this world especially when accompanied with either cold and smooth treat or a baked pastry, your palette will be in heaven. From Savory to Sweet you will be back for all of it. Take my word for it. ; )
