15 Excellent Margaritas to Try in San Diego | Eater

"Coin-Op Game Room in North Park, a 21-plus barcade, mingles classic arcade nostalgia with a bustling bar scene. It’s brimming with player-favorite games like Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Mortal Kombat, vintage pinball, and skee ball, along with ping pong and basketball. Snack on creative twists of classic bar nibbles while you quaff a summery twist to a traditional marg — Astral Blanco, lime, and juicy watermelon. And if you’re looking for an extra perk, swing by on the last Sunday of the month for free play all day." - Mary Beth Abate

25 Bars in San Diego Supporting Joshua Tree | Eater

"Any bar this close to Balboa Park may feel far from California’s deserts. But the Desert Dreams cocktail lives up to its name by combining Westward Whiskey with juniper syrup, agave, lemon, and bitters to create a balanced, dry drink, one tailor-made to be consumed amid cacti and tumbleweed. Instead of drinking under an oppressively hot sun, though, Coin-Op Game Room serves up their drinks alongside old-school arcade games." - Vox Creative

Google
One of my favorite barcades in San Diego. We came for the comedy show (which is located in the back) but it was too small and crowded. However, it’s the best place for the vibes to chill and play some games with friends. Not to mention great cocktails and specials. My favorite? The New Pink Pony Club!

Christina DLP

Google
Drinks are great and so was the service. I didn't order any food. The game selection was decent but expensive so $10 of quarters lasted 15 minutes. But a cool bar to spend time with friends.

Google
Cool spot with classic arcade games playing some great tunes. Games are cash only- there’s a change machine on site. Bar serves food, cocktails and local beer. They have The Simpsons Arcade game which is is my absolute fave!! There’s a Photo Booth too!!

Darcie Jenkins

Google
Bartenders are super talented and fun and the overall environment is great. There's a great selection of games. Also the tater tots. Everything about this place has been fun everytime we've gone!

Kim

Google
COOL SPOT. Take what you like about a bar and an arcade- now combine them and subtract some of the annoying things. This place is so much fun and has such a chill vibe. Grab some great local brews or cocktails. Then go play many of the arcade games you grew up loving. Great alt music going in the background. There is an ATM and quarter machine on premise.

Taylor Dutcher

Google
Overall it was fun but I didn't like the fact that I would have to take out money through a ATM owned by the bar to get quarters to play the arcade games. We are in 2025 they can find a way to give me quarters that don't involve a multiple phase process to do so. They do this because the bar owns the ATM and makes money from each transaction. In this day and age you can do something better coin op. But that is how I see it. Edit - so the company that owns the games owns the ATM. My stance still stands we are in 2025 find a better way for people to get quarters for the games that don't involve getting charged money to pull a 20 out.

Super fun place on a Friday night out. Great for friends, groups, couples. A little busy but open until 2am

Yelp
Really chill place to get some drinks. Buffalo fries were good, not like blow your mind type, but for a bar, it does its job. Bartenders and employees are super cool and fun to talk to. The music they played The night I went was spot on. They played hip hop rnb, and it was such a vibe. Literally would come back again just for the music and the employees being so easy to talk to. Drinks they made were really good, not super strong, but not very light either. Just right, and very enjoyable. Games - they had some pin ball machines, a claw machine, some arcade retro games like time crisis, 2 of the basketball hoops where you can vs each other, and a cup pong game. It's better to use quarters over dollar bills, because I guess it doesn't register your money sometimes through the bills. There's a change machine that can change your money over too. Bathroom was clean, parking is... well it's north park. But I easily found parking a block walking distance. But there are Ace parking available. Overall, I had fun. I didn't have to play games to have a good time. Could be the company, but the employees here are top tier. Come with your best kicks so the bouncer can compliment them haha!

Yelp
Fun 21+ retro spot in North Park for a beer and some nostalgia. Lots of pinball, some button-and-joystick type shii, and some physical skill-based stuff like basketball and beer pong. $1 per person per play for most. The downtown location has more games, so if you're heavy on the arcade and light on the "hip bar in a hoppin' 'hood", go downtown instead. And then pat yourself on the back for being soooooo much cooler than the suburbanites who frequent Dave and Busters for their 8-bit jollies. Cute little back patio with a few more (VERY retro) games and lots of tables. Weird goon cave art in the hallway, though. Bro- stick to old video game promo posters or something, sheesh.

Yelp
Came here for weeknd drinks with wife Beverly, won some toys from claw machine... ate some awsome chicken strips lol!! Tall bartender Conner gave great service and good tasty drinks.... .hmm really a guy that me and my wife could get behind if you know what I mean lol!!!! I will be coming back to beat pinball high score Wife will be coming back for Conor! lol love you, buddy !

Blackie C.

Yelp
Connor has got some serious skills, and I don't mean just behind the bar, but also behind me and my boy cayden ;) the man really knows how to serve up some mean cuck- tails! We will for sure be back!

Yelp
They have soooooo few games here... the space is pretty small, so I guess it makes sense, but the number and selection of games are disappointing. The controls for some of the games are off and unresponsive as well. The commands for street fighter barely work. I saw a butterfly rubber ducky that looked cute in a claw machine, and the claw couldn't even reach that far and it wasn't even on the very edge. Plus it was $1 a play for those little rubber duckies. The one positive thing was that the Area 51 game was fun. Now for the drinks... we had a power punch because I thought it would be cute since it was served in a capri sun-like pouch. It cost $12 and there was so little drink in it and it was SUPER weak. I felt like I hadn't consumed any alcohol. The bartender was also not friendly, didn't even look at us during the whole interaction and was talking to someone else. Stopping by here was a mistake.

Yelp
Coin-op is such a fun place to start your night out on the town in North Park! This location is fairly smaller than the Coin-Op in Sacramento is, but we still had a good time. The menu here has a good variety of cocktails and shooters, and we tried a mix of drinks. The alcoholic juice pouches were by far our favorite--we ended up ordering several each over the course of the evening. The arcade games are fun and fairly affordable. The only complain is that the space is fairly small and I wish they had more games available. That said the backyard patio is a nice touch and a good place to catch your breath when the inside gets crowded.

Yelp
I came in a buddy of mine since he had come to this location before and I was excited for it. We went straight to the bar first to get our drinks and our bartender is kind of the reason why I am leaning towards a 3 star instead of a 4 star but realistically, I would put it at a 3.8 stars. Our bartender kind of had an attitude that he did not want to be there and was tired of people bothering him for drinks. Other than that, the drinks were good and the games were fun to play with. Of course I had to go to the Photo Booth to take photos. I was told that it took card but when I tried swiping it, it did not do anything so I had to get change. The Photo Booth was pretty glitchy and the photos came out mediocre quality. Other than that, it is a fun place to hang out and play games.

Yelp
This place is a must when in north park. The drinks are amazing, I recommend trying one of their power punches. The bartenders try their best to help you quickly. The games are fun and they have a duck claw machine that's easier than it looks.

Yelp
Stopped by here for a birthday celebration with my love. It didn't disappoint! They have a plethora of games to play which includes pinball games (at least 4), basketball, the simpsons, TMNT, and so many more! Also, a classic claw machine! They have food options. We got the chicken fingers and fried pickle spears and they were yummy with ranch and BBQ sauce. Good beverage options as well from beer to liquor. All in all a fun day date.
google avatar

Yelp
Fun spot in North Park to meet up with friends for a drink. There are multiple arcade games and can get pretty packed but not too packed where you're waiting forever to play a game. Drinks are reasonably priced and taste good. Games are fun to play and also reasonably priced. Will definitely come back.
google avatar

Jenna B.

Yelp
Really fun place! Bring cash to put in the change machine, games take quarters only. Mostly pinball and shooting games. Staff was all super friendly and helpful. They mix good cocktails, and have a strong beer list. It can be quite loud, but everyone was having a good time. Don't skip the chicken tenders!
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
Classic arcade bar with coin operated video games, drinks, and good music. There aren't too many games, but the ones they have are good ones and they also have Mario Kart that can get pretty competitive and is fun to play drunk with friends. It's open air, so the bar won't get stuffy even when crowded, and if you manage to snag a table the seating is actually good. The drink selection is solid with beers on tap and some cheap shots for later in the night. Bring cash to exchange for coins and you're in for a great night!

Rob M.

Yelp
Courtesy. Be prepared to get kicked out before closing time. Rude security and staff.
google avatar

Amanda B.

Yelp
Fun place to meet up with friends, play games and catch up. Weekends are busy but never too long of a wait to play games.
google avatar

Maya K.

Yelp
Loveeee this place! I always go here for a chill and fun night with friends! I really enjoy the claw machine and basketball game the most. I haven't gotten many cocktails here, mainly beer, but they have good beer options! I also really love the Kirby shot!! I appreciate the Photo Booth at this place as well, as my and friends and I will drop some serious money for pictures every time! Definitely check out this bar if you're in north park! And it's conveniently next to several other bars to hop around to
google avatar

Christian N.

Yelp
Pretty fun spot to meet up with a group of friends! A fairly small venue that I imagine could get packed pretty easily. Went on a Saturday late afternoon though and luckily it was fairly empty. I thought they had a decent variety of games, though I do think they could add some more given the space. The staff here were all very friendly and I would definitely suggest checking this place out if you are ever wandering around the North Park area looking for something to do or have some time to spare before a restaurant reservation.
google avatar

Maricar R.

Yelp
Place is very nostalgic. At least for me since I was already around when Arcades was a thing. As for the younger folks, this is probably a new trend for them. Staff members are super friendly. They keep the place clean. The place is pretty small, so it can get crowded. Bring cash or quarters. The machines only take quarters. They do have an ATM machine if you want to take some cash out, but they probably charge. They have change machine, if you don't have any quarters it's not a big deal.

Yelp
Went to this location this past weekend with a friend who is from out of town and had a terrible experience with the security/door man. We wanted to play the outdoor games, which the doorman advised we couldn't have any alcohol outside, he then told us that he could hold our drinks underneath the podium that he was standing at and take sips in between playing .... Super weird, told him no thank you. We placed our drinks in cup holders that were part of the indoor area and still within eyesight, and went outside to play games. This security guard took it upon himself to go get our drinks and put them him under his podium... again this is really f*ckin weird. I went over immediately and asked him for our drinks and why he had moved them when I clearly said no thank you ? He could not give me a reasonable answer and tried to make it seem like he was doing us a favor. Idk where you found this guy but it's super uncomfortable to have someone touch your drink in a bar. I tried explaining to this guy that he shouldn't go around touching ppls drinks. He got upset and threatened to kick me out of the bar. No need, I left right after that. Super embarrassing to have that experience especially when showing an out of town friend your bar. Talk to your security about bar etiquette.

Taylor J.

Yelp
Good selection of games and drinks , the outdoor backyard is the real best part of the place!

Yelp
If someone in front of you in line doesn't tip well, be ready to be treated like shit. It's a lottery system here where if the person in front of you in line doesn't tip well , the staff treats you like garbage and throws your money on the table. The owner Kacie F. wrote a fake heartfelt message and did nothing to rectify the situation. When I responded to their private message asking me to explain the situation they ignored me. There are too many quality bars in San Diego to end up going to a desperate dump manipulating you for tips with a terrible owner. All humans deserve to be treated equal. First time being discriminated against in San Diego.
google avatar

Jessica K.

Yelp
Always a fun time!! Probably try to bring cash/coins to play the games. The staff is efficient and the drinks are good! Overall this place is high energy but in an "adults having fun like children" way. I always seem to come when the patio is closed so I don't know what it's like back there but they do have a back area!
google avatar

Darcie J.

Yelp
Bartenders are super talented and fun and the overall environment is great. There's a great selection of games. Also the tater tots. Everything about this place has been fun everytime we've gone!

Yelp
"It's just a duck game". No shit brother, but let us live a little' we won 9 ducks, 2 each +, truly a defining moment in our lives. But, I get it, we were too excited and you didn't like that. I get it. But live a little man, win some ducks, text your ex wife, try some foot stuff geeeze, why so seriousssssssssss. It's a bar, I'm not sure you know that? anyways, love this place, you finally got some real tequila and not that cheap local shit. Kudos!
google avatar

Nathan H.

Yelp
The cocktail program keeps me coming back along with the pinball lineup. The staff is super duper in my book. The food is under rated in my opinion! The variety of hot dogs is delicious. I love this place! Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Rheagan K.

Yelp
I have to say I've come back recently and had a really Pleasant experience. The last Sunday of the month, all the games are free, so I decided to come back. I thought it would be a crazy night die to all games being free but it wasn't! It was nice and the service was good. I'll be coming back on the last Sundays!
google avatar

LINA M.

Yelp
This place seemed cool. I only dropped by for 5 minutes to grab a beer while waiting for the sushi place next door. An adult arcade for the drunkies.
google avatar

Ava J.

Yelp
Everything's nice but not cool that half the machines eat up your quarters & don't work :/
google avatar

Joey D.

Yelp
Ryder the bartender is amazing I highly suggest you see him if you come....he treats you like family serves the best drinks
google avatar

Nathan O.

Yelp
Used to be the go to spot for me and at least a dozen of my friends for years. Then a bouncer grabbed a friend of mines arm because she spilt a drink by accident and continued to scream at both her and I "get out get out". Pathetic excuse for a bouncer and also pathetic excuse for a place to do this to customers who have come here for years. So long coin op, you lost yourself at least a dozen regulars over a short bouncer on an ego trip.
google avatar

Rosita L.

Yelp
Loved the place, played a lot of things in the place and we had fun times in here! Reminiscing the good past since mostly it's oldies game when we were kids (guess I just revealed our age! Lol). We didn't really have any drinks or meals here, but we did have a lot of fun playing here. However, the place was a little cramped up a bit but still well organized and to code. Will go back here again someday!
google avatar

Victoria E.

Yelp
Wow, Just had a delish "girl dinner" made by Jason the bartender that created it. In a hectic bar he was a real sweet gem and took some time to help me choose a drink and not feel like an idiot. Many thanks Jason!
google avatar

Audrey L.

Yelp
Such a fun place to grabs drinks and play some games with friends! They also have some bar snacks that are really good. They have so many different types of games! Everything from Pac-Man to Jurassic park. It's definitely a fun time when you come here with friends or coworkers and unwind!
google avatar

Andrea V.

Yelp
Always a fun time and yummy drinks. There are even certain games good to play in groups so if you're third-wheeling you can still enjoy.

Ezequiel P.

Yelp
Management, isn't professional. He sent security to open the door when my wife was using the bathroom. I'm not mad at security and I understand he was taking orders from management. I have never been treated this way anywhere I've been before and I spend a good amount of money. Security threaten to open the door, luckily my wife opened the door before he did so. Never again will I be back to this coin op & is I'll defer all of my friends from coming back again. The most Unprofessional establishment I've been too. Beyond pissed off at this place and the management! Will be filing a report to the owner of this coin op.
google avatar

Connor K.

Yelp
Cool place to grab a drink and play some arcade games. Gets crowded easily and some people are more intense than others on the games. Overall a classic stop in North Park
google avatar

Martin L.

Yelp
Bar + coin op, it's like they read my mind! Great spot in the middle of north park. Relaxed vibe w good selection of arcade games. Had a great time w my friends having drinks while challenging each other to Street fighter. Mortal Kombat also drew a good crowd. Great place to hang out.
google avatar

Vanessa T.

Yelp
SUCH A GREAT EXPERIENCE I love how all the machines take quarters not "play cards", it does get pact towards the end of the night overall it's the perfect way to end a night
google avatar

Liona H.

Yelp
Love this place! Fun pinball and arcade games. Overall good vibe, can't wait to go back.

Elena P.

Yelp
They need to do a better job of picking their bouncers. I had a friend who accidentally spilled her drink, and the bouncer physically grabbed her and started yelling at her for something that everyone else was doing. Like people don't spill their drinks ever. Please do a better job of making sure your bouncers don't grab women without cause. Not ok.
google avatar

Desiree J.

Yelp
Coin Op is a great spot to check out on a Friday or Saturday evening before you head out and about downtown. The drinks are strong! The only thing I don't like about this place is that it is very loud inside. A colleague of mine and I had to go outside to hear each other. Other than that, this is a good spot.
google avatar

Armida S.

Yelp
Came across this place while staying in an Airbnb in North Park. We went I. To check it out and stayed for a while. Had a couple drinks and appetizers and played the arcade games. Took us back to our younger years.

Jimmy G.

Yelp
This place sucks. Half of the games don't work. It's small, so you are stuck surrounded by a ton of people and the drinks are garbage. Mainly, the cocktails. I ordered an Old Fashioned and it was the worst one I've had. Don't go to Coin-Op. Go to Coin Hauss in La Mesa.

Adam G.

Yelp
This bar-cade's bouncer and manager engaged in inappropriate practices when my friends and I attempted to enter their establishment. They confiscated our friend's perfectly legal ID and told us they would keep it, accusing it of being a fake. We were forced to call the police to retrieve it, which ultimately wasted our time and led to a premature end to our night. The police confirmed the license was real and valid, and told the manager that they can not hold ID's under false pretenses. Save your money and go to Nickel-Nickel!
google avatar

Nima D.

Yelp
Great experience , friendly atmosphere and interesting drinks , we got the back patio to ourselves and it was very eventful I like particular their appetizers
google avatar

Natalie S.

Yelp
It's all fun and games they say...yep, Coin-op totally is. Society's "the butcher" stout was great (notes of chocolate, coffee, and toffee!) and the hard booch (strawberry lemonade) was good too. Make sure to bring cash for coins and expect to pay about $.50 to a $1 per game. Highlights included The Star Wars/Mandalorian pinball machines, Pac-Man, beer pong and basketball arcade games. A cool place to check out when hanging out in North Park!

Hannah B.

Yelp
So cute, free game Sunday is super fun with a great crowd. The food is surprisingly good, and the drinks are pretty affordable. But the best part about this bar is Tony the bouncer, makes my night every time I come in!
google avatar

Crissi L.

Yelp
Checked in on a hump day. We were able to grab a table and placed a few items from their starter menu. I'm a sucker for tater tots. They had a good selection of tot flavors to choose from. We ordered the truffle and lemon pepper flavors. They did not disappoint! I would most definitely return as it brought flash backs of Atari and Nintendo games paired with great drinks and food! Plus the good vibes from bar, game, and kitchen staff were a bonus.
google avatar

Bianca M.

Yelp
Fun place!! It's small on the inside so I can see it getting crowded on busy weekend nights. It was a fun place to play games and get a tasty beer - plus they allow dogs and have a back patio. Would come backk
