When it comes to Iranian restaurants, whether in New York, LA, Toronto, or otherwise, Colbeh is the gold standard. Its food isn't the absolute best, but the whole experience is what deserves five stars and what makes it the most popular Iranian restaurant, probably in the country.
Something that's iconic of Colbeh is how they bring out several dishes on the house before you even order. No other restaurant does this, and not to this extent. The complimentary pickles, hummus, and, of course, tahdig apps are what sets you up for true hospitality that the Iranian culture is known for.
As for the meal, I recommend you get the barg, koobideh, or joojeh if you're in the mood for protein. If you want a stew, you can't go wrong with the ghormeh sabzi (national dish and my personal "last meal before I die"), fesenjoon, or bamieh. Their grilled salmon and swordfish are also pretty special.
Dessert - try the bakhlava, or faloodeh if they have it. They bring out fruit on the house too.
Colbeh is also popular for events, like engagement parties, baby showers, and birthdays, in the back. Right by the train and connected to the Andrew Hotel, it's convenient for guests and visitors from other towns.
Tip: if you get takeout, ask them to put each meal in a separate bag so you get twice the amount of complimentary apps.
