Colbeh Review - Midtown - New York - The Infatuation

"A New York stalwart for well over 30 years, Colbeh’s claim to fame goes beyond excellent kosher food. Not only is the restaurant’s menu top-notch by kosher standards, but this place also makes some of the best Persian food in the city. With two other locations on Long Island - one in Great Neck and the other in Roslyn - Colbeh caters to the large Iranian population that calls New York home and has landed itself a slew of other fans that crave the tender, juicy kabobs (get a king combination to try a variety of them) and the extraordinary tahdig. Make sure to slather the latter in either ghormeh sabzi (an herbed stew) or khoresh lapeh (a red split pea stew)." - Anna Rahmanan

Fantastic Experience at Colbeh Restaurant! I can’t say enough good things about Colby Restaurant in Great Neck. The portions are incredibly generous—you definitely get great value for your money! The meat was perfectly tender and flavorful, cooked just right every time. The staff is warm, welcoming, and attentive, which makes the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. You really feel taken care of from the moment you walk in. I would absolutely come back here again. Highly recommend Colby Restaurant if you’re looking for delicious food and excellent service in Great Neck! Five stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!!!

Google
✨ Incredible experience at Colbeh! ✨ Fresh, flavorful Iranian cuisine right in the heart of Great Neck 🇮🇷🍽️ — and just steps from the LIRR 🚉, making it super convenient. The staff is warm and welcoming, and the portions? So generous you’ll definitely leave full and happy. This isn’t just a meal — it’s a full cultural experience 💫. They’ve got every Persian dish you could think of — from kabobs to tahdig to khoreshes you didn’t even know you were craving 😍🍢🍚. To that we say: آفرین (Afarin!) 👏 — well done, and thank you for keeping the taste of Iran alive in New York!

Wow!!! Colbeh absolutely blew us away!!! From start to finish, everything was perfect. Pejman took care of everything!! His amazing team showed up early, set up beautifully, and made sure every single detail was taken care of — we didn’t have to worry about a thing!! There was SO much food (more than enough for everyone!), and on top of that, they even brought extra items we didn’t think of — such a thoughtful touch!! The food was beyond delicious — people were literally fighting over the leftovers because they loved it so much!! Everyone is still talking about how incredible everything tasted. Thank you, Pejman and Colbeh, for making our event unforgettable!! We can’t wait to work with you again!!!

Great kosher restaurant. They can serve you family style. Everything is wonderful. The mixed grill and the fish platter is delicious. Chicken poppers are a must. Drinks are good too.

My husband and I have had dinner in Colbert on several occasions. The food is always delicious, the atmosphere is lovely and the servers are friendly and efficient. Recently we sponsored a kiddush for our Chabad House and used Colbert as the caterer. The event exceeded our expectations! Pejman helped us prepare the menu and everything that came after. It was such a pleasure to work with him! My husband and I strongly recommend Colbert for dinner and any catered function. You won’t be disappointed! Susan B.

Google
I don’t usually go to Persian restaurants because I have had some good Persian food in the past, which has set my expectations for Persian food very high and I usually get disappointed by Persian restaurants in the US. That and also, when we got to the restaurant, I wasn’t even hungry! We got the Sultani kebab, which is a good that I don’t even like, BUT I loved it! This was the best sultani I have ever had! Highly recommend it! The manager is super nice. I loved the ghorme sabzi, warm bread and the torshi and khiarshoor, too! Their Persian hospitality was pretty evident! Just as we thought we were ready to check out, they brought a plate of cut melon desert 😂The environment is nice and they opted Persian music. Again, I highly recommend them!!!

Yelp
My first time having Persian food was amazing! The staff were so nice and friendly. The chicken kebob was phenomenal! The vegetables were grilled to perfection.

Yelp
Excellent food, excellent service, quiet and clean even with every single table full. The hosts were so happy and generous, we had a large table and ordered what looked like the whole menu and even got a couple extras on the house. Ate to our heart's content and of course had enough left overs for an entire meal, so we asked for it to be packed up. Got home to discover that the "garnish" or grilled tomatoes were thrown away??? They were warm and juicy and perfect compliments to the giant plate of meat. Why on earth would you do that?? Please ask the staff to never throw away the veggies, it's a crucial part of the dish. Other than that, amazing place, can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Great Iranian food, service and ambiance. I love the way the restaurant looks and smells in the dining rooms of the hotel and it's just so good.

Yelp
The catering at our engagement party was outstanding! The food was delicious, beautifully presented, and perfectly suited to our diverse guests. The team was professional, attentive, and made everything run seamlessly. They went above and beyond with the selection and amount of food. Our guests loved it, and we couldn't have been happier. Colbeh is also my Dad's favorite and said you could never go wrong with them! Thank you :)

Yelp
My wedding was perfect. All I had to do was show up. The good food, the ambiance, the service, was beyond compare. The most spectacular day of my life!

Yelp
I dont know where to begin. Our experience with Colbeh restaurant was nothing short of exceptionally fantastic. We recently had an event there and were beyond satisfied. From the moment I contacted them to inquire about the availability to the moment we stepped out of the venue after our party, it was nothing but an extreme professional and welcoming encounter. The Colbeh management and staff were super friendly, went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and taken care of. The food was super fresh, the staff were very nice and the ambience was absolutely gorgeous. We are extremely happy with our choice and satisfied beyond imagination. THANK YOU COLBEH

Carrie N.

Yelp
The Colbert management is incredibly disrespectful to their neighbors and co-tenant guests at the Andrews Hotel. They hosted an event on a Monday night and started pumping up the music at 10 pm. Even after multiple complaints, the music continued past midnight night. The police were called and still the management did nothing. Who knows if the food is any good. But I can assure you, any restaurant that hosts an event on a Monday night blasting music past midnight, does not have good service for their neighborhood.

Yelp
We had the best party ever at Colbeh. I did practically nothing! The food was great! The staff is terrific. I suggest you have your party there without a question! Love them! Beatrice at the bar amazing! Pahjman couldn't have been more helpful!

Michele L.

Yelp
I want to give a big shout out to Colbeh for never failing to provide fantastic service. This past Sunday, we had a small, intimate wedding for my daughter. The room was set up beautifully. The flowers on the table & the chupah were tastefully done & the service was above & beyond. Pejman is an absolute professional. He addressed all of our concerns & made us feel confident that the evening would run smoothly. The food was, as it always is, delicious & plentiful. I highly recommend Colbeh for any occasion you have.

Beth G.

Yelp
My grandsons first birthday party was here. Everyone is still raving about the food! Not only was there so much food but it was delicious too! Service was great and the place was really nice and spacious for our party of approximately 90 people. Also a nice area for the kids to play.

Yelp
Came here for dinner the other night and it was absolutely fantastic! The staff was very attentive and the food was so delicious! For appetizers, we tried their Hummus, Matbucha, and the Salad Shirazi. All of these were absolutely delicious. They also brought out bread that was paper thin which really hit the spot! For an entree, I had the chicken kebabs with their fresh dill rice. The kebabs were so flavorful and roasted to perfection. The herby rice complimented the meal extremely well. Highly recommend this place and am looking forward to coming back soon!

Yelp
I had my bridal shower, baby shower, a 60th surprise party for my mother, and most recently hosted a charity fundraiser all in the back party room of Colbeh - because they simply are the best. It is so convenient for all guests, the food is always amazing, and I've never once had any issues with their services at any party I've hosted or attended as a guest. When it comes to planning events, their manager Pejman is the absolute best. Pejman was helpful, patient, and extremely calming the day of a very hectic event. He planned the entire menu, and knew exactly what he was doing. I refer anyone and everyone to Colbeh. In fact, my cousin just texted me and asked where she should host her bris - I attached a screenshot of my response...If I didn't have 2 covid babies, both of my sons' Brit Milahs would have also been at Colbeh Thank you for going above and beyond!

Yelp
My family is a regular customer with Colbeh since I had my sweet 16 there in 2006. Whenever we have an event, it's our go-to for catering because they continuously do a fantastic job and go above and beyond. Most recently I catered from them for my backyard wedding for 25 people. The staff they sent were LOVELY and truly exceeded my expectations. There was SO MUCH food, and all of it is delicious. Are they pricy, sure. But at the end of the day they do the best job and you end up getting the most bang for your buck. Truly. Call Pejman. He and his team are great to work with.

Yelp
It's near 2-weeks since our son's Bar Mitzvah catered by Colbeh. 3 meals: Fri night, kiddush (lunch) and seuda shlishit ( 3rd meal dinner). My apprehensions whether everything would come out well was met with 'don't worry' from the caterer manager. Do you know she called me next day, on her way to Rome, saying she too was concerned everything would turn out well for the special shabbat. Well that night/day was so grand that we felt like King, Queen, Prince---this turned out to compliment all our guests: feast for eyes and mouth. The food was spilling over into abundance. If it wasn't a holy day, we might think it was a decadent dinner . You can ask any of our more than 100 friends, the food was sweet and delicious. Since it was shabbat timing was all important. Our meals were hot (except for the dairy lunch). Following all the strictures, the food was fresh on delicious buffet tables: Oranges, Cherries, all spices from the 'orient'. The staff paid so much attention to the servings, that even if they were not working that moment they were poised to help any of our invites. The Rabbi's came over to me and said this event (the food) was the best they had in the Temple. She also said she will recommend Colbeh to members in the synagogue: very impressed. My family had a chance to rejoice, for my son's efforts and for the food taste and display. Time is making our experiences recede, I wish I had the food now in front of me. We, as a family may never repeat such a big affair again. Regardless of the expense, the food highlighted we lacked nothing: Rich eating. Colbeh knows the public taste

Yelp
This might be the first Yelp review I've written that really makes me wish I could give more than five stars. From the food to the service to everything in between, Colbeh is truly a top notch experience. The pita and pickled vegetables were great noshes to start. I always order bourekas if I go somewhere and they're on the menu, and these were hands down the best bourekas I've had. So flaky, flavorful, and the dipping sauce they came with was phenomenal. We were brought some complimentary tahdig which was out of this world and something I fully plan to order my next time back. For a main, I had the Boness Joujeh and Koobideh Chelo kebabs, and it was such a huge portion, so flavorful, and just plain incredible. Will definitely be back over and over again - it's well worth the price!

Yelp
The food is amazing here. We had our engagement party here. Amazing memories from this place. Pejman is the man!!!

Yelp
I went to an event there last night. Food was excellent. People were friendly and helpful. Strong recommendation for a catered event in their party room or whatever!

Yelp
A wonderful night last night out for my dads birthday, and we chose a place he's been wanting to go to for some time, Colbeh in Great Neck. The restaurant has ample seating, nice tablecloth and place settings, good space between tables, large dining room and separate room as well. We started off with some pita and veggies to pass around and take a look at the menu, they have lots of kebabs, steak, stews, salads, apps, and the big winner, the dips. The Babaganoush is the winner, some of the best we've ever had, and highly recommend above all else. We also had some Hummus too which was good. We had the Steak with French Fries and Israeli Salad which was tasty, especially the dip with it. Also make SURE to get the Tea. It was so warming and satisfying, and comes with a container of hot water for refill, big win. The restaurant was also so accommodating and friendly, offering a bottle of wine for the table for my dads bday, as well as fruit for dessert. Very kind of them. Highly recommend Colbeh for those looking for a Kosher Restaurant to try!

Yelp
The best schwarma I have had in a long time. It was particularly good on the Lafa bread.

Stacy M.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Was there recently for a Bar Mitzvah and had a great experience.

Ira L.

Yelp
Food is amazing!! Service was great and would strongly recommend. Portion sizes are huge

Eric L.

Yelp
Pejman and his team put together a fantastic event. The food was delicious (so much food! So delicious!) and the service spot-on. We opted for the DJ, games, and other bar mitzvah items offered by Colbeh and received great value for our money - they created a great atmosphere that was enjoyed by adults and kids alike. The room was properly sized, intimate but not crowded; plenty of room for 13 year olds to act their age. In sum, we had an amazing party and are very, very happy we had it at Colbeh.

Yelp
Service was fast food was good overall good experience that's all yelp says I have to say more but I refuse too I'm not a food critic leave me out of your biased content control

Jane D.

Yelp
Food is very good and plentiful. Attentive staff. A bit pricey, but worth it. Middle Eastern cuisine is spiced and you should inform the waiter if you have any allergies or digestive issues. Municipal Parking lot is two blocks away, since street parking can sometimes be difficult.

Yelp
I initially rated it at 3.5 and marked as 'will return, probably.' But as I was looking up the bill to find the spelling of 'babaghanoush' for this post, did I realize they charged us wrongly. (Note: do check your bill, which I don't ... which is why I try to keep a photo of the bills...) ... So the conversation went like this the following day. Me: " ... you should have charged us for Babaghanoush but instead Bademjoun." A gent at the restaurant " ... oh ... right, I remember you ..." We were the only Asian family there. He continued, "let me look up the bill ... it will take a day or two. What's your number?" After my phone number, he then said, "so I owe you. How much is Bademjoun? $21.50?" I, looking at the bill, "it's $22.50" and not amused. Their menu is rather small and simple. The gent, "So I owe you $12." I, "No, it's $13. And the sales tax too." I won't be this petty but didn't like the fact he's trying to lowballing it. The gent, "ok, how much do you think I owe you?" I, "I just spelt it out for you." I only want what was owed to me. Throughout the conversation, there was not a single 'I'm sorry' He took my credit card but the refund didn't come. So days later, I called my credit card company to dispute. The following review was done before the phone conversation: Pricy. Homey. This Kosher Mediterranean grill has been there for ages. And I'm glad we finally decided to give it a try. The light color scheme makes it airy (regular ceiling) and likable in a homey way - lacking the flair like Zaytinya, etc. We got there at 7 and was quiet but by 8, on a Wednesday the place is humming. Their hums and babagunish are excellent. I wanted the Branzino but they're out ... so I ate off my companions' - Lamb Kebab (the green rice with dill is great but the red rice is bit too sweet for my taste) and Ghormeh Sabzi (a little bit like the Indian dish). Over all, good food but pricy. Their house wine Carb and Shiraz are good.

Yelp
Colbeh in Great Neck hosted an event for my son's school last night (Schechter LI ) and knocked it out of the park! We had over 100 adults in a private room and the food was delicious, hot and plentiful! Set up was perfect - little to no waiting in line and the servers brought around drinks and Cleared up constantly. Definitely look to have an event there soon - you won't be disappointed!

Jeffrey S.

Yelp
I attended a charity event at Colbert last night and the food, service and room were all terrific. Food was tasty and plentiful, served in a very efficient buffet style along with walking waiters and waitresses serving hors d'oeuvres. I had seconds on almost everything. We loved Colbeh and they made a major difference in the quality of our event.

Ilana S.

Yelp
Dear Mr Pejman and the entire Colbeh Team, My family and i would really like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You threw a really beautiful party and exceeded our every expectation! Thank you so much for making our simcha special.

Jonathan R.

Yelp
Legendary experience we will be talking about for years. Six star service that made my 7 member family feel like we were the only people in the restaurant even though it was packed to capacity. Exceptional, mouthwatering food across multiple courses. very generous portions- we felt like this is the only restaurant that Inflation had not hit. we were there to celebrate an important family milestone. when I told the waiter why we there he gave me a complimentary glass of 18 year scotch (quite tasty) and an unopened bottle of wine to my son in celebration of the milestone. Our family's new official place to celebrate!!!

Eric R.

Yelp
Went to Colbeh in Great Neck for our 30th Anniversary dinner with our children and it was perhaps the single best dining experience of our collective lives. Besides the food and service being top-notch, the added throw-ins and extras were just unbelievable, topped off with a very nice bottle of wine to go for our special occasion. Would recommend them unreservedly for your dining enjoyment!

Sofie R.

Yelp
It's so good I'm writing a second review!! I am so grateful to Colbeh. I needed catering for a small event and they were incredible. They were so kind and worked with me to make it happen, the delivery even arrived early! The food was delicious, and the attendees were thrilled. 10/10 recommend using Colbeh for your next catering order!

Yelp
As a fellow Elite member stated, the customers here are a bit annoying, but if you're lucky enough to get squished in a corner where you can't move your arms to get the food in your mouth like I did, you won't even see the annoying customers! Ok the place is outdated for sure and when you walk in you're like immediately at your table which can be kinda of awkward or like really awkward. Then why the four stars? The food here is delicious and flavorful with the right amount of seasoning. The lamb was cooked to perfection. The appetizers were very tasty. They give you an insane amount of food, and although you stuff your face, somehow you still feel good about yourself. Let's talk about the cherry rice, it is total deliciousness! Second, the service is awesome! Our company was having a small dinner party here and we had servers left and right offering us a variety of drinks every 5-10 mins. The servers were very friendly and attentive. The location is super convenient with parking right outside! Colbeh, keep up the good work!

Yelp
We hosted my grandma's 80th birthday here in the event space! All in all the service, staff and food were delicious! I'm a huge fan of the food here. Always plentiful and made freshly. They had buffet style appetizers which ranged from so many types of foods. For dinner they brought kebabs on platters with 2 different types of rice. All the food here is kosher. When booking an event, they usually provide their own DJ (who was also super accommodating and stuck to our exact music requests). The waiters were so helpful and continually brought drinks, food and whatever else everyone needed. The party was about 65 people and there was still plenty of room for more! The dance floor is moderately sized as well. I would definitely recommend hosting an event here! Their private event space is beautiful.

Joel S.

Yelp
Had an event at Colbeh of Great Neck. From the initial contact and going forward the experience was truly excellent. The actual event was flawless. The food was superb, the portions and varieties were extremely generous. The Desserts were also very plentiful and delicious. The service was fabulous as was the attention to detail. The entire Colbeh experience was truly enjoyed by all of us. We highly recommend Colbeh. We were a sizeable group and everyone raved about Colbeh. Thank you Pejman, and to the entire Colbeh staff !!!

Helene P.

Yelp
Great food, great service, portions are "love" sized. Came with my family for my birthday. I ordered the Chilean Sea bass skewers over dill rice and my son ordered schnitzel with fries. Various foods were brought to the table "on the house" and I think I got an additional three meals out of the sea bass. They also catered a few years ago my son's bar mitzvah dinner for our out of town guests. Overdelivered, No one left hungry. If you are the type of person who likes middle eastern food and likes to leave a table feeling full and contented, this restaurant is for you. If you like to eat tiny portions and leave sad, don't come here.

Yelp
Last night we held an intimate Jewish Day School event with over 100 people, in the private room at Colbeh in Great Neck. It was an incredible event thanks to Colbeh and the team. I highly recommend the beautiful event space if you need a sophisticated venue with great food for a special occasion. Pejman and Benjamin were truly a pleasure to work. They, along with the entire staff, were responsive, caring, thoughtful, friendly, warm, honest, and extremely helpful from the beginning planning stages, interim planning, setup, as well as throughout the whole evening. The food was plentiful, high-quality, and delicious. There was tender meat, salmon, lots of vegetarian options, rice dishes, all types of salads, tasty desserts, drinks....I can go on and on. It was a true feast. The bartender was great as well. The room was set up perfectly and was elegant. The team at Colbeh is experienced and smoothly gets it all done well. I will definitely be working with Colbeh again. It was a wonderful experience.

Yelp
Came here on the recommendation of someone else, and I can say that I was completely blown away. The food was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is a "casual/upscale" type feel if that makes sense...white table cloth but not overly sophisticated feeling (at least for lunch time). I was a little taken back by the prices especially since this only shows $$ on yelp I would consider it more like three and a half. Example: $21.50 was one of the lowest prices for a small entree option. Lamb Kebob: 5/5, the lamb was delicious. Perfectly seasoned and cooked just right. Chicken Kebob: 5/5, same as the lamb. Cooked perfectly with great flavor and seasoning. Highly recommend either one. Hummus Appetizer: 5/5, best hummus I've ever had from texture to taste. The basmati rice with orange peel is hands down the best rice dish I've ever had in my life & highly recommend it with your entree. Overall, this was a great experience and I'm happy I came here for lunch. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and really went out of their way to make this a great meal. The only reason this is not a 5 star review is because of the price aspect. Otherwise I can't complain about anything at this location.

Yelp
I used Colbeh to cater a wedding in 2020. Wedding was outdoors and was covid safe. the day before the wedding, there was a tropical storm and there was no electricity throughout long island but Colbeh brought in generators and the wedding went on seemlessly. Pejman is really devoted to his customers and treats them like his own family. Same for the restaurant in Great Neck--great ambiance, amazing food and service is top notch! You will not be disappointed.

Noa M.

Yelp
My husband and I hired Colbeh to cater our wedding and it was incredible. Many of our guests approached us and told us that it was the best food they had ever had at any wedding. Though we offered tons of meat options, our vegetarian guests had plenty of options to choose from. Even our guests with nut and gluten allergies did not go hungry. In addition, it was Colbeh's first time working at our venue, and they did an incredible job! Thank you to Pejman, Steven, and the entire staff for all their hard work!
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our Gormeh Sabzi, our orange rice, and (best of all) our Cherry Rice. We also appreciated the care with which the managers of the Great Neck location prepared the restaurant itself for comprehensive COVID-19 prevention. Thank you, Colbeh, for a wonderful evening of Farsi Sephardic cuisine and fond memories.

Yelp
This was actually the second time I have been to Colbeh. The first time was a few years ago and I was not impressed at all. I have too start off by saying I am not a big fan of kosher resturaunts at all. This time My daughter picked the restaurant for us too meet at so we could meet our future son in law and his parents. As the first time I was there I had the steak and did not like it This time i went safe and had the salmon with white rice. The salmon was actually pretty good. The service was excellent and the staff was fast and friendly. I personally would not go back to Colbeh myself again. I have to say the only plus for me about Colbeh is that it was a lot closer than having to drive to five towns to eat diner.

S R.

Yelp
Had a dinner party with a group of girls for my birthday and not only was the food delicious but the staff and owner went above and beyond to make sure every detail of our night was amazing. I really cant think of a better place where food atmosphere and service was so top notch.

Yelp
If you love persian food then colbeh is for you! Try the persian rice, so good. Portion sizes are great and the food quality is 100%

Yelp
the service there was amazing. everyone was so kind to us and gave great recommendations for what food they like. the food was absolutely delicious and the portions are big enough to share with your family. even when we thought we were full, they brought us complementary food!! it was just such a welcoming place with the kindest owners. definitely recommend going there

Yelp
When it comes to Iranian restaurants, whether in New York, LA, Toronto, or otherwise, Colbeh is the gold standard. Its food isn't the absolute best, but the whole experience is what deserves five stars and what makes it the most popular Iranian restaurant, probably in the country. Something that's iconic of Colbeh is how they bring out several dishes on the house before you even order. No other restaurant does this, and not to this extent. The complimentary pickles, hummus, and, of course, tahdig apps are what sets you up for true hospitality that the Iranian culture is known for. As for the meal, I recommend you get the barg, koobideh, or joojeh if you're in the mood for protein. If you want a stew, you can't go wrong with the ghormeh sabzi (national dish and my personal "last meal before I die"), fesenjoon, or bamieh. Their grilled salmon and swordfish are also pretty special. Dessert - try the bakhlava, or faloodeh if they have it. They bring out fruit on the house too. Colbeh is also popular for events, like engagement parties, baby showers, and birthdays, in the back. Right by the train and connected to the Andrew Hotel, it's convenient for guests and visitors from other towns. Tip: if you get takeout, ask them to put each meal in a separate bag so you get twice the amount of complimentary apps.

Yelp
A somewhat last minute visit, I'm preggo and with too much snow everywhere we were limited to places that have either valet parking or a parking lot. Colbeh is always a staple, solid go to. It's a bit dated in decor but the food is always solid, always consistent and always delicious. Plus the staff is super friendly, personable and won't ever let your water glass get less than half empty. Ordered some meaty cumin laced cigars as our app, they sent out a flavorful tadek topped with sabzi as well. For our entree a combo kabob platter with a strip steak kabob and a ground beef kabob, and a braised veal & eggplant in tomatoe sauce stew. All beautifully prepared, presented in large shareable platters and most importantly piping hot! For dessert we opted for the Tiramisu and the Cappuccino cake and for parave desserts they were quite good. Since it was tu b'shevat a complimentary plate of fresh sweet watermelon and honeydew were served as well. Overall a good place to have dinner for 2 or a group gathering since each dish is definitely generously served to share and then some.
