Yelp
I had been meaning to come here for a while but there weren't many Yelp reviews specifically. Cold Plate does more frequently hold promotions via Instagram, so there are a good amount of photos on that platform. The majority of people stopping here are kids and is generally less packed than next door's Snowy Village, which attracts the majority of UW students around this area.
There are some premade combos, but I find that with getting the raw puffle sandwhich and adding your own toppings, you tend to get more than if they make a full puffle taco.
~ Double Stuff Puffle Taco (8/10). I expected the ice cream to be rolled within a bubble waffle, which is a classic combo it seems in Asian dessert places. However, when I received this item, it wasn't rolled, just folded over ice cream, which was slightly disappointing. I added a Nutella drizzle, which I felt helped a lot in the combination of ice cream and bubble waffle, since the folded ice cream wasn't exactly dippable. I think that to make this item more enjoyable, there's definitely a need to add more toppings which are more "wet." The waffle itself was light and airy, with a solid crunch at the end as well -- just what I like from a waffle. It's a shame that the ice cream wasn't prepared as well as I would expect, otherwise it'd easily rate higher.
~ Peanut Butter & Banana (+ Ice Cream) (+ Nutella) (9/10). If you compare the amount of toppings to the puffle taco, the amount in the sandwhich is more than the premade taco, and ended up around the same price. I put my vote in for regular ice cream being surperior to rolled ice cream in the taco. The taco isn't really foldable, so for scoopable value, the ice cream when not rolled up is more dippable.
While I would opt for other places in general, if I wanted egg waffle ice cream from anywhere on the Ave, the only option is Cold Plate. I would take a pass at it if I were looking for something sweet in general though.
