The 5 Best Restaurants In Cold Spring, New York - Hudson Valley - The Infatuation

"Eating lunch at this spot, which is named after a real-life depot that opened in 1893 and is now just a few steps from the Metro North train station, will make you feel like you’re living in a different century. The American food is enjoyable and the beer list is great, but mostly, there’s something thrilling about eating a burger that’s similar to a Big Mac while a train goes by right in front of you." - team infatuation

Google
I can have a burger every day of the week, so I know a thing or two about burgers. The Roasted Poblano Burger was amazing highly recommend. The restaurant is rustic which was nice but I much rather sit outside right next to the Metro North passing at about 3 arms length from you at full speed, nice experience.

Google
This is a nice place in Cold Spring. I really enjoyed the restaurant environment and their beer selection. However, I am giving it 3 stars for their food. I ordered crispy chicken sandwich and my husband had Truffle burger. Both were very average. Their truffle fries are great though.

Peter Park

Google
Excellent out door terrace in cold spring! Their French onion soup was really good - would totally recommend in the fall. Salads were delicious and hearty, the truffle burger and the pretzel was really good.

Google
This was a cool find on our way up to Lake George. We had our dog with us and this place is very dog friendly! They provided my girl with a water bowl and she sat outside with us. My son got the pasta, I got the pretzel and chicken wings. Wings were medicore, we got the Anchor Cherry BBQ. Everything else was delicious. My husband got the steak and said it was absolutely delicious. He’s a food snob. Definitely get the warm apple cider!! Be aware, the train is loud so if your dog is sensitive you might not want to come here.

Quintin Sherrod

Google
Very impressed with everything! The double double burger was outstandingly flavorful, fries crispy, the buffalo wings were saucy, and the salted watermelon cider was refreshing. The atmosphere was relaxing and dimmed while offering a cozy feeling. It was also cool to see the trains go by.

Google
After a long hike to Anthony’s Nose and soaking in the fall views and breeze we were super hungry and ended up at this restaurant. We googled it and this place had the best reviews. Trust us those reviews were genuine since the food here was mouth watering, tasty and in good quantity for the price. Their cocktails were good too. The bread onion soup was delicious and so were the Brussels sprouts. Burgers were filling and came with truffle fries. Overall an amazing outdoor sitting experience. Loved it!

Google
Spray experience ever they told is to seat they did not have is menus besides that table was with water glasses and the check from mast customer. The waiter Never showed up to give water or to ask of we were helped. Spoke to the manager and explained what happened he just said “sorry about that”. Do not go here !!! Worst service ever i uploaded pictures because i love to speak with proof

Yelp
Ok, to be honest -- I've been to the Cold Spring Depot twice, and each time I got the same thing -- so I'm truly giving five stars to the double-double burger, which is one of the best burgers I've ever had! I take that back -- I'm also giving the place five stars because the servers and other team members I encountered were all lovely. I've also gone at non-typical meal hours and noticed there's always a few people there, whether inside or out, enjoying the peace and quiet (until a train comes through and scares the hooey out of you!). Both times I sat, took my time with my burger and soda, read my book and just enjoyed the peace there. Definitely plan to go back -- and maybe next time I'll try something new! (Then again, if it ain't broken...)

Yelp
Stopped here after a long hike to to fire tower in beacon where I got to enjoy the westher, sunbathe on a rock and take in the view by the time we made it down we were starving and decided to stop for burgers at this restaurant. I cant tell you if it was my hunger but as I waited on line To get in everyones food looked mouth watering. When my garlic truffle sandwich arrived, it couldnt wait to dig in. It was supper tasty and in good for the price. The truffles fries were supperv. My friend ordered the double double burger(2 4oz burger patties w cheese and onion) and he had no complaints. I dind order cocktails but they looked good and decently priced. Best of all,is PET FRIENDLY. Overall an amazing outdoor sitting experience. Loved it and will definately coming back to try other items from their menu.

Yelp
It was yummy! I got the fish and chips which came with fries, tartar sauce, goddess greens, and a wedge of lemon -- pro tip is to use the lemon on the salad and dip the fish into the Tabasco before tartar sauce. The acid will cut right through and complement the dish great! Portion of fish wasn't the hugest for $28 but was very crispy! Partner got the double burger which was also good with the fries! Great spot to fill up after the bull hill hike! The surrounding town also has a lot of cute antique and specialty stores!! Things are pricy though. The vibes were elegant with ample outdoor and indoor seating.

Yelp
To be frank I did not have high expectations for Cold Spring Depot but they exceeded my expectation! I dined at this restaurant with my mom on Mother's Day and it was busy but was still able to be seated in the outdoor bar area. It was a beautiful sunny day and they have plenty of outdoor seating with shade. The loaded hummus platter inspired and surprised me!!! It had cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, capers, black olives, feta cheese and a good olive oil served with a buttery naan. I don't know why I've never thought of adding these things to hummus but I will never eat it plain again. My mom had calamari and cherry ancho wings. The bar tender was so sweet, catering and attentive. The whole staff was super nice as well. The food was delicious and will definitely be returning whenever I visit Cold Spring NY. Thank you for the inspiration!!

Yelp
Service here was very friendly and helpful on recommending menu items, plus glad they up on refilling the water often since it was pretty hot outside. For the food the cheesesteak egg rolls were great, plenty of seasoned beef and glad they were not piping hot. Do wish they had more cheese since it was not cheesy. Dipping sauce was on point. For the pasta Luna which is just spaghetti in fra diavolo sauce, good amount of squid and shrimp cooked just right and definitely a right portion of spaghetti. The sauce I will give you could been more spicy, but still great. Do appreciate a portion cup of Parmesan cheese since it's more than most places would just sprinkle on top.

Yelp
Decent burger, friendly service, and really spacious interior / exterior. Beer is not bad as well but nothing mind blowing. Would come here for a quick rest / drink but not for anything else in particular, only if you're already in the area.

Yelp
The Nashville Hot Fried Chicken Sandwich was huge. As soon as I saw the sandwich sitting on someone's table as I walked in, I knew that's what I wanted to order. The scent of the food here did not set me up for disappointment. The chicken was so crispy you could hear it. I personally liked the Nashville hot flavor okay, and it wasn't super spicy. The restaurant had a ton of outdoor seating, including seating next to the train (super cool if you ask me), but it also had a lot of indoor seating. Our larger group of 6 was able to fit comfortably at a table indoors in a section that was decorated to feel like a home. I really have never truly seen a homey restaurant until stepping into this place. I loved the generous serving of fries, and I nearly finished them all despite how full I was.

Yelp
This place was great for what I needed . after a long day of hiking , and most restaurants closed at eight to nine p.m., this restaurant right by the train station is extremely convenient if you're trying to leave town and quite filling for a reasonable price. We got the double double burger, and the Pueblo burger (I think that's what it was called). Burger is much better than the double double. The double double was just a regular burger. Not much flavor. But the burger with the roasted peppers it was delicious. Quite soggy though and it fell apart. But it's a good messy burger. The fries, we agreed were terrific and by far the biggest strength of the meal. George was extremely kind to us and gave us recommendations for upstate getaways. I really appreciate his service and his kindness.

Yelp
We came here for lunch. We initially tried to sit outside but there were a lot of bees/wasps which made it uncomfortable. They kindly re-sat us indoors which was super cozy with a fireplace. The French onion soup was delicious. We also got a burger and upgraded to truffle fries. The fries were my favorite part of the meal. They were super crispy and not too greasy.
google avatar

Yelp
Came on a Saturday and there was a line, but it moved pretty quickly. Seated outdoors within 10 minutes. Service was fast and friendly. The shrimp and soup were delicious but the sandwiches are lackluster. The nashville hot fried chicken sandwich was barely spicy and the steak sandwich lacked seasoning. The truffle fries were good though. Kinda pricey for what it was as well.

Yelp
Awesome place to grab food and drinks after a hike! This place is right at the entrance of Cold Springs next to the metro. We came here after a morning hike and devoured the food here! The Brussel sprouts were good with a fun twist. It had fermented kimchi pieces with gochujang and peanuts on it with surprisingly complimented the sprouts really well. It was a nice appetizer to share. I got the Double Double burger while my friend got the Blue Cheese burger and they were both amazing. They were huuge with juicy fat chunks of meat in the middle. My friends loved their fries too. I'd come here again to try their lighter options as well!

Yelp
Met my godson here today. Very cute bar on the train tracks. Restaurant side has a cozy fireplace that u smell as soon as u walk in. Mostly burger and sandwiches . I had a steak sandwich with broccoli rabe. Sandwich was good but small only 1 slice of meat. But was very tasty Wife had a Reuben sandwich said it was great. Godson ordered a double burger. He said it was awesome. Prices were very reasonable and plenty of parking right outside

Yelp
I don't understand why this place doesn't have over 4 stars on Yelp. I stopped here with my mom before heading back to NYC and the burger was absolutely phenomenal. I ordered the veggie one since I'm vegetarian. The sauce gave it some extra flavor, the quac was a great touch, and the burger patty itself hit the spot! Fries were also very crispy. They have an lovely outside patio where we sat and enjoyed the beautiful day. I'll definitely be coming back here.

Yelp
Coming here for a cold beer and a nice crispy sandwich with a side of truffle fries after a long hike??? YES PLEEEEAAASSSEEEE

Lily L.

Yelp
Came here with my grandma, mom, and dad on beautiful Sunday morning. The food was great and filling, but the service was amazing! Our server Jorge was so sweet and patient with us and all our questions. At the end my grandma complimented his work shirt and he went to his car and gave her his extra one since the restaurant was sold out, he gave it to her for free! Made my grandmas day!
google avatar

Annie B.

Yelp
Yum American food! the crispy onion rings, pretzel was the perfect texture, sweetpotato salad was pretty good but nothing special. overall average but it hit more cause I was craving this kind of food! Good service
google avatar

Gabriela O.

Yelp
Their double double burger is so good and their truffle fries are a hit! You will not miss with that :) we order also a pretzel as an entree and it was pretty good, specially the cheese sauce. I love the open patio, but I wish they had the patio umbrellas, so you get a little shadow from the sun. The servers are nice but the service is a little slow. So be patient, when the food arrives is going to be worth it.
google avatar

Kami S.

Yelp
Came here the first time because there was nothing else open and were pleasantly surprised. We ate inside because it was cold out, and it's decorated like an old library, very nice, it also doesn't hurt that it's right next to the train. We got 2 ice cold draft beers, the bacon burger and the sausage platter and were very happy about our choice. Next time we were in Cold Spring we came here again. The weather was great and we ate outside. This time I got the blue cheese burger with truffle fries and the sausage platter again. Everything was delicious second time too.

Yelp
Convenient place to stop in for a lunch bite after a hike or before heading out on the train. We were in town with our dog for the corner and we're just in time to beat the weekend summertime lunch rush. No reservations. We sat outside and our server set us up with a water bowl for our dog. Other outdoor tables had dogs with them as well so it seems like a popular place for dog owners. We ordered the pull apart pizza bread, chicken tacos, and double double burger. The burger was really the star of the meal. The other two dishes were nothing too special. We were in and out in under an hour, which is something we look for when dining with our dog. When we were leaving, there was a queue of at least 6 parties looking for a table, most larger groups with dogs and/or strollers. Worth mentioning that there were quite a few bees out and about, pestering most outdoor tables. They also do have the MNR/Amtrak track behind the restaurant so it does get quite loud for a brief moment when trains pass through, most at full speed.

Yelp
Had the burger and the meat loaf here and both were really good (if I had to be honest, I like the burger better than the meat loaf hehe). Service was also very quick and accommodating and the gentleman serving us was spot on with the recommendations. The decor was also very nice with a Christmas vibe! Would definitely come back for the burger and the awesome service!!

Yelp
We came here after a hike at the Breakneck Ridge. Great drinks! It was worth the wait!

Yelp
When I sat down at the bar the bartender didn't even acknowledge my presence. Like no hey I'll be with you in a second, just ignored me. Food was decent. A little on the pricy side, but what isn't these days. However, 1 glass of Diet Coke was $4. From a fountain machine. My jaw dropped. That is outrageous. The ambiance is pretty cool- especially when a train goes by. It's all outdoor seating I think. Lots of covered seating which is nice.

Ron M.

Yelp
Very friendly and fast service. Old atmosphere from the early 1900's. Food was very good and nice beer selection. Got the double burger which was very good with truffle fries. Reasonable prices for the times. Overall a really nice place.
google avatar

The Critical J.

Yelp
PROS: their food was good and the servers were nice. The menu variety was solid while the food came out on time. Atmosphere was good with outside and inside seating with two bars CONS: only a one person bathroom which causes a backup and the kitchen isn't able to handle a full house. They messed up my order as well OVERALL: amazing place to eat! If you are in the area, come on by

Taylor H.

Yelp
Super negative experience here. Food was great, but the service couldn't be worse. The bartender heard me discussing my order. He thought he heard what I wanted, I was trying to be polite. When the food comes, it is not the sandwich I ordered. I politely asked for the correct sandwich I ordered. The bartender says- "do you want to take this home- I'm going to throw it in the garbage!" I said ok fine! Thanks. New food comes, I eat my meal. The check comes and the first sandwich is on the bill. I politely ask for that to be taken off the bill. The bartender started arguing with me, saying he would not take the sandwich off the bill. He was super rude and aggressive. I was being as understanding as possible through the entire experience, so I was surprised when he got aggressive. He tried to take the sandwich away at this point , and I said if you're going to charge me you aren't going to also throw this in the garbage. Just a really negative experience when it wasn't needed. The food is good, make sure they get your order right- or else you're paying for a full extra meal. They don't refund or stand by their word here.

Joan T.

Yelp
We've been here at the outside bar numerous times, but because it was too cold we went to the inside bar for the first time. The bartender Jay seemed catatonic and very disengaged. Normally when you order drinks and food at a bar you get the best service because the bartender is right there and engages, but not in this case. It took a few minutes just to get menus and then another few minutes to ask what we wanted. We ordered drinks and food and I asked for two glasses of water, which is a simple request. He was busy making drinks for the wait staff, instead of just giving us two glasses of water while we were waiting. I would say we sat at there about 15 minutes with nothing as if we were invisible. We saw one woman come in, and didn't order anything and he gave her water while we didn't even get that. We got up to leave and spoke to the manager Anthony about why we were leaving. He profusely apologized and guaranteed we would get good service and sat us at a table inside. Thank goodness for him or we would have just gone to the train without dinner. Anthony was very courteous and truly bothered by the way we were treated. At least we received good service from Ermilda and we enjoyed the food. Jay did make our drinks, and honestly we were nervous to drink them because he did see us talk to Anthony, Hopefully he didn't put anything in the drinks We are both ok and I'm here to tell the story, but you never know. If we get mysteriously ill in a few days I'll update this review, but as of now we are fine. Anyway, the service and food here is always spot on, so I don't get why this bartender behaved like this. He must be a relative of the owner or someone because we've never seen such a disengaged bartender ever. We noticed he didn't engage with anyone so we won't take it personally but not to even bring us water, in 15 minutes no less make our drinks was unacceptable. I would have give 0 stars but since Anthony had us come back inside I'm giving 4 stars.
google avatar

Ann N.

Yelp
Average burger and fries with high price point. I would give this more a 3.5. I wasn't blown away from this burger. The best thing was that it had 2 patties, so it did add to the higher price point. The service was good. The food came out in about 25 mins but that's because we had a large group of 7. We sat outside on a sunny day, so the ambiance was very relaxed.
google avatar

Danny P.

Yelp
I went to Cold Spring for a hike with friends and we wanted to stop and get some lunch. I'm glad we went to Cold Spring Depot It is an American restaurant with a lot of comfort food and also dog friendly I had heard the burgers were great so I decided to get the Double Double Burger with American Cheese, lettuce, pickles, Thousand Island dressing and a side of fries. One bite into this burger and I could tell right away how juicy it was. The burger was extremely well cooked and I also like the crispy fries. If you are ever in Cold Spring this is a great place to check out.
google avatar

Vanessa M.

Yelp
The food was probably not the best in hindsight but when we sat down after our rock scramble and hike in 0C in New York autumn, man this was the best meal ever. Get the giant pretzel with beer cheese dip to share with your friends, definitely recommend. We found the loaded poutine a little much, though their fries are pretty good, just get them with a burger. Would recommend the spicy bbq chicken burger the most. And if you're feeling generous definitely splurge to get the garlic truffle fries - they were really a step up. Best way to end a hike. It is a bit overpriced and leaves you feeling a little greasy; and not the best ambiance inside (a little stuffy and low energy), but come with a good group and the company will see you through!!

Tyrone H.

Yelp
The food was Just ok, nothing stood out, typical bar food. Service was blah (maybe it was a bad day, we all have them) will retur.
google avatar

Valentina N.

Yelp
This was our second visit to Cold Spring and we almost skipped on dining due to how busy everything was and a previous disappointment, however we opted for this spot and I'm so grateful we did. We ordered sangria and sandwiches/burgers, all so tasty and filling! The double burgers were fantastic and my god the pulled pork po boy was FANTASTIC! Service was friendly and quick. The ambiance is very relaxed and representative of the life loving atmosphere of Cold Spring. Pricing is in line with trend and gratuity is included but well worth it imo. Will definitely return and recommend!
google avatar

Joseph K.

Yelp
Came here for a random Saturday night meal, waitress was wonderful, service was outstanding and our burgers and calamari were delicious!!! We will be back again!!!
google avatar

Faith M.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and every time it hits the spot - if you're looking for some good comfort food then give it a go. I was shocked to see more negative reviews because I've only ever had good experiences. The people have been super nice and the food has been delicious. It can get a little loud during busy hours, but that was fine.
google avatar

Elizabeth X.

Yelp
Driving through this small town, decided to stop by for a bite. Location is nice - surrounded by the quaint town, it's right by the train tracks and the water is not too far off. Views nearby are great. Food was pretty good. I got the Beef and Pork Belly Burger - burgers are stacked HIGH! Get ready for a bit of a messy but yummy eating experience. Will say it's a little more than I'd like to pay for a burger ($18), but overall satisfied. Staff is friendly.

Lisa U.

Yelp
This place is ok/ good. The food was good, pub like. When we got there it was strangely quiet and all you heard was dishes clanking around, like put on a radio! It was Thursday night, and then it started to pick up and get more lively with chatter. I read peoples comments about rude staff and we did not experience that at all. Overall a good place to stop if you're hungry.

James M.

Yelp
Host was very friendly and we got sat almost immediately. Ambiance was good vibes, close to station. Food was classic pub food. Didn't blow socks off but was very good (pablano burger and Depot Sandwich).. Truffle fries hit the spot.

Mady J.

Yelp
Amazing service, beautiful outdoor space, the gumbo and chicken sandwich+truffle fries were SOOO good, not to mention the cold IPA!! Hit the spot after the long hike!!!
google avatar

Anna C.

Yelp
What an amazing place! Outdoor seating, social distancing, Great waiters/waitresses We had the poutine (yum), blue cheese cheeseburger (to die for), truffle fries, and steak sandwiches! Everything was cooked to perfection and so savory! No complaints!!!!! After a day of sightseeing this place is a MUST! Skip the other restaurants and enjoy this gem!!!! Everything was delicious and came out in a timely fashion! Will definitely be back!

Brooksie J.

Yelp
Over rated....hot spot because of location ...food below average...there are better options close bye
google avatar

Franchesca C.

Yelp
Came here obviously on a Saturday for lunch after my morning Hike at Hudson Highlands State Park and it was awesome. I sat at the outdoor bar since it was only me and my dog Dex and they were awesome with him. They brought him a bowl of water while I had my lager and their crispy chicken sandwich (not pictured) that was delicious. It was the perfect spot for a post hike meal! Definitely recommend because their service was superb.
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
We had a wonderful lunch here. We sat outside had a nice table with an umbrella. I started off with a lemonade drink with vodka in it. It was refreshing and just perfect. For entrées, we ordered a cheeseburger and french fries, and the pork crêpe. The crepe was amazing with its garlicky pesto and Manchego cheese... Really juicy and flavorful. The cheeseburger was very tasty and juicy, with really crispy french fries. I was very happy! Service was excellent, everyone was very accommodating. I brought my dog, and they couldn't have been any nicer and brought him out a bowl of water. Great food and great service. Bravo!

Colin M.

Yelp
Dining al fresca was a delightful, with and abundance of apps and drinks. Service was friendly and attentive. Burgers were smash style and awesome. Fries top notch. Hot Chix was good if u like that. Trains rumble right thru while you eat. Well worth adding to your list, especially on a nice day.
google avatar

Emily Y H.

Yelp
Got to dine here when we visited for a day to get out of the city. It was a great experience, especially since it was our first time dining out since the pandemic started. The waiter was very nice and they handled social distancing very well. The outdoor dining consists of a bar on the side and also just a general area where seats are more spread out. The restaurant is right next to the train tho so it does get little loud when the train passes by, however it doesn't last very long. We had some beer and ordered wings, salad, and a burger to share. The wings were delicious and we even took the left overs home. For 2 girls this was more than enough food. Definitely recommend here if you just want a place to relax and chill. Its close walk to the lake and close to many of the shops near by.
google avatar

Yelp
First of all, get the hot honey chicken sandwich. It's so friggin good. Second of all, everyone who works there is so sweet. I completely forgot my credit card in the midst of trying to catch my train and the server took after me and gave it to me as I was catching the train! Barely made it! Thank you to that server :) I will be coming back just to tip you more! Overall 10/10. Oh, and watching the trains go by is really cute while eating outside.
google avatar

Mostafa G.

Yelp
The one star is for good service. Our server was really nice and attentive. We shared a few dishes with my wife including mussels. Aside from lack of coconut flavor in the dish, I hit a few very strange tasting ones where i had to pull them out of my mouth and two of us only finished half of the dish. What could go wrong? I got home after several hours of driving and had a whole night of vomiting, stomach cramps, fever, and diarrhea, begging to be released from allowing the poison to take over. If you ever got food poisoning before, You know how painful it is. Im surprised the health department hasn't close this place down. If you are in town, do your self a favor and find some other place to eat, and save yourself from my predicament.
google avatar

Al S.

Yelp
It has probably been 5 years since we went but friends of ours wanted to meet there since they were taking a ferry ride from NJ to Cold Spring. Wow were we all impressed. We had multiple appetizers, 2 meals and the ladies split a pear salad. Everything was delicious, hot and fresh. Not to mention a decent beer and drinks menu. We will definitely return.
google avatar

Anthony S.

Yelp
10/10! Spent the day in Cold Spring and boy was it COLD! After perusing around the shops, we built up quite the appetite. Found this on Google and were glad we did. The place was packed but worth the short wait. We ordered two Double Double Burgers with truffle fries. Both were top notch. Burger was juicy and tasty, especially with the grilled onions. Also, they DO have gluten free buns, which I appreciated VERY much as a celiac. Great spot in the winter, bet it's even better when it's warm out.

Kelly R.

Yelp
Food is mediocre and way overpriced. If you sit outside you have to hear the screech of the train every 15 minutes.

Mike M.

Yelp
My lunch time host sat us and 12 min later I spot my host and ask if we could get some one to take our order, we are in a little bit of a hurry, He begins to question me when I sat down with an attitude. By the way. the place is not entirely busy. Along with the horrible food being served along with entirely over priced menu. If it wasn't for the NYC tourist, the Depot should be a place for the past.
