Yelp
I like that Cole's is an Old Nashville/neighborhood cafe in Green Hills. It used to be Firefly Grille, but they recently reopened as Cole's Kitchen. It looks totally different - white walls, very traditional cafe. But I was definitely underwhelmed by the food. First of all, I visited for lunch. Their lunch and dinner menu are the same - a single menu. That's fine, but there are a lot of dishes on the menu that I might consider ordering for dinner but that just aren't the lunchiest of options (in my opinion): 5 oz filet mignon, a 1/2 rotisserie chicken with brie mashed potatoes and chicken veloute, an 18 oz bone-in pork chop with creamed kale, a braised lamb shank... These are just too heavy to be lunch options for me. So having decided that most of the entrees weren't lunch options for me, I was left with seared salmon with polenta cake (still more of a dinner option in my mind), a burger or veggie burger, one of their salads (wedge, Caesar, beet salad), butternut squash bisque, or a lunch special (today they had three lunch specials including a pimiento grilled cheese and a salad). I decided on a cup of the bisque with the Caesar (they don't do a soup and half salad option, so I just ordered a cup of bisque as a side). The bisque was pretty good. The salad was fine - tasted just like it would at home if I opened a bag of lettuce, a bottle of grocery store Caesar dressing, and a bag of croutons. Overall, the menu is much more appropriate for dinner and the food was average at best. But it's not a bad place for a client lunch or family dinner as it's a very traditional cafe that's not a chain restaurant.
