Long‑running downtown spot for combo plates and mariscos with a devoted local following. Frequently appears in local reporting, confirming it’s still part of Main Street’s everyday dining rhythm.

Hi Miguel, I wanted to share some feedback about our recent visit to your restaurant. First off, I have to say that the ambiance and concept of the place are truly great – it’s clear a lot of thought went into creating a warm and welcoming space. We were really excited to try a local spot here in Visalia on a Sunday afternoon with family. We were greeted at the door by a kind young woman, which made for a great first impression. Unfortunately, the service took a sharp turn after that. Our order was taken by someone named Pancho, whose attitude was unexpectedly rude and dismissive. It was disheartening to experience such pessimistic and unwelcoming service – especially when there was no reason for it. I was simply asking my mom what she wanted to drink, and Pancho responded in a way that made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. It’s truly disappointing because I would have loved to enjoy the full experience your restaurant has to offer. With such a great atmosphere and vision behind it, it’s a shame that the service didn’t reflect that same care and quality. I hope this feedback is helpful, and I sincerely wish you continued success with your business. Best regards

Jim Johnson

We arrived for a late lunch with our business associates. The restaurant was empty and we were seated promptly. The food and ambiance were satisfactory, but nothing exceptional. Unfortunately, the table service was lacking and unattentive.

I had an outstanding Molcajete and a few Long Islands at Colima in Visalia tonight. The dish was served to liking and order. Extremely hot and extremely spicy like I like it and requested. Service was outstanding and attentive. Drinks were stiff and everything was worth the money.

Google
Not sure what they gave me but it definitely wasn't what I ordered. The taco was ok but that didn't make up for the entire meal. We ordered shredded beef and received some type of ground beef sauce. We won't return.

On a Friday night out in Visalia. This place was on my radar. There were a few people who where in the restaurant and seating was limited. Once made my friend came in we're quickly greeted. Warm chips and salsa were brought to the table. The salsa had the right amount of heat, which was a very pleasant surprise. For my drink, I ordered a cadillac margarita, which was well made on the strong side. The menu had many classic takes on Mexican dishes before my meal. I settled with the chicken enchiladas with green sauce. My dish came out quickly and the cheese was still bubbling. The dish came with sour cream, salsa along with beans and rice. The flavors were real authentic. And I definitely would love to go there again to try other items on their menu.

Google
I have been going to the Colimas on Main St. since high school. This is my absolute favorite restaurant. The food is great and the service is fast and just as great. Their menudo is the best out of every restaurant we’ve tried. We eat here at least once a week. They have warm chips with their salsa and pico de gallo if you want. I would definitely recommend this place at our local downtown location.

Google
Best Mexican food ever! Would easily rate this restaurant a 10+, the best molcajete. The service was quick and fast, I recommend to anybody in town!

Google
None of our group enjoyed this food. Flavor just wasn’t there. We were the only people in restaurant. Spent $100

Yelp
Great ambience great family restaurant. The lighting was low but adequate the food was delicious. I recommend the food.

Yelp
They've got some great things on the menu and we love to come by when we're in the area. Service is hit-and-miss sometimes. They really rubbed me the wrong way recently when I called nearly an hour before their posted closing time to ask to place a pickup order and was told no, they were already closing the kitchen down. :( What's the point of having hours posted if you're not actually open then? What a bummer.

Yelp
Food was good and came out fast. I think the waiter was a little drunk though he kept coming back over and over unsure of what we had ordered. It's clean inside and the low lighting helped my sensitive eyes. Come at your own risk

Yelp
Just run of the mill Mexican food... Nothing special here. The various items we had were inconsistent, a couple were pretty good and a couple were not good. I would not go back, there are better options in downtown Visalia than this one.

Yelp
If you're looking for a great, authentic, Mexican restaurant this is your spot. The vibe is extremely casual and the focus is definitely the authentic, classic Mexican cooking. Service was also great. I really enjoyed my machaca. My husband had the chile relleno and a ground beef enchilada. He loved his food. I would definitely come back here.

Yelp
Very clean, friendly and very fresh food!! Prices for some specific items were higher than usual

Yelp
Just discovered this place because it is a block from the hotel and happened to be open on a Sunday evening. So glad we tried it. The menu is extensive and after alternating between several things that sounded delicious, I saw the Fillete Relleno and knew that was the choice. It's a bass stuffed with shrimp, octopus, onions, other vegetables, cheese, and delicious seasoning. It is humongous and utterly delicious. With the included sides of green salad, carrot salad, rice, beans, and home made corn tortillas, I had to put some in the fridge. Absolutely fantastic place!

Yelp
We have eaten here twice on our vacation. Both meals were fine. This is traditional Mexican cooking, with excellent service. The portions are monstrously large. The decor is basic but we liked that it was not too noisy for conversation. We liked everything we ordered and with careful selection our gluten free folks had no problems.

Yelp
Came by here and ordered Fajitas. These were probably the best tasting fajitas I've ever had. Loved the tomatoes and the red sauce in them. Have to come back and try them again! Great service!

Cartina P.

Yelp
Very tasty and well seasoned food . We give this place a 2 thumbs up! I'm from Louisiana and my husband is from Mexico and we loved the food and the customer service. We shall be back again!

Yelp
I love Mexican Seafood. When I saw that sign, I had to go in. Both the hostess and waiter were super friendly. The place was simple but clean and well maintained. The food came fast. I ordered mojarra, I'm obsessed with it. The fish was fresh, fried perfectly, seasoned well. The sweet carrot salad was a delightful surprise. Overall a great experience. I need to go back and try the other seafood dishes.

Sevan B.

Yelp
So good love it amazing service the food was delicious, and came really fast. The waiters were really sweet and funny! Over total family friendly vibes and ambience.

Rihanna J.

Yelp
Been coming here for years I love their fajitas and a lot of other dishes they have. Definitely my favorite Mexican place.

Yelp
Service was unsatisfactory, food was bland but it was okay nothing impressive. We waited a long time for drinks and food. Will not be returning!

Yelp
Been coming here for 20 years! Best Mexican food in town! Service is over the top every time! Food is always great and never had an issue with anything I have ordered! 10/10 would recommend

Yelp
I was seated quickly and able to order fast. Ordered the chicken chipotle and a sierra mist, plus rice and beans for my son. The chicken was overcooked and tough. The "chipotle sauce" had no flavor, just cream. I ordered 1 meal, 1 soda, and a side of rice and beans which came to $42. I was astounded. The receipt was also very confusing and not clear at all. When I questioned the total and ticket, I was told they have an old register so that is how it looks. I will not go back or recommend anyone go there ever. The food was awful and especially for the price. Go to El Tarasco just down the street for a cheaper, more delicious meal with better service.

Yelp
Service was A+ the staff walked by frequently and was super attentive. I ordered fajitas ( shrimp, chicken, steak ) and they were very good. The side plate came with guacamole, lettuce, rice and beans. I would have like sour cream included but it came with a ranch sauce which was very good as well. The dish included 2 tortillas but there was probably enough for 3-4 tortillas! Lots of food! Salsa had a very good bite, and was super fresh. Chips and salsa were included in the experience which was nice!

Yelp
Is not open before 9:00 on Saturday. On yelp it says open. It's closed though. Sign in window says 10 am M-F 9am Sat-Sun

Yelp
I was so not impressed with this place. I just could not get passed the fact my guacamole tasted like a latex glove. this place was just not for me.
google avatar

Alyssa H.

Yelp
Full bag of chips , I ordered just the aqua chiles, chips and salsa which the salsa was in a container people want to charge a dollar plus for. First time ever ordering it and getting it Togo in a soda cup. 29 dollars though so I won't be going back there.

Yelp
This is the jewel of Mexican Restaurants in Vasalia! The server recommended the chili verde. It was as good as anything in New Mexico. Their staff was friendly and engaging. The clientele was the salt of the earth; several cute children, I wish were mine; You should dine here early and often!
google avatar

Juve M.

Yelp
This place is an example of what real Mexican food should be! The quality and taste of everything from the hand made tortillas to the camarones rancheros mix with a la diabla are one of the best I have tasted in a while and believe me I eat out an average of 70% of the time. The service is excellent and professional. The guacamole was made as we ordered it, the refry beans and the rice had the perfect consistency but what takes the price is their salsa both for the chips and the sauce for the camarones rancheros and the camarones taste really tasty and fresh. I would really recommend them when in Visalia.

Yelp
I enjoy the food here it is pretty tasty. We make jokes of how we feel like we are eating at the coast bc of how pricey thing have gotten. It was a bit slow bc there was only one cook in the kitchen. The waiters seemed to be a bit rushing. We where in a group of 11 and had to be split do to not enough seating. There is a back room you can reserve. But the seating was no problem. Good food

Yelp
My family has been eating here few years. I remembering coming here 10+ years ago and the food is still just as good as it ever was. We almost always get a burrito and I switched it up this time with a California burrito. It was massive, I almost didn't finish it which is rare. The service is quick and always very friendly. The chips and salsa kept coming before we could finish the last few chips in the basket. Their restaurant is always clean and well kept! Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Colimas is my favorite Mexican restaurant in visalia. I've been to most in town but nothing honestly really compares. The food is excellent. I love the chips and salsa. It's spicy for sure. The fresh beans are also amazing. My kids love them with chips. They have great service and friendly waiters. This is the catfish or "bagre" it's one of my favorite items on the menu. It's cooked perfectly every time and hot. The rice and beans are delicious. Another great dish is the camarones al mojo de ajo or the garlic shrimp! Seriously they are bomb. Honestly everything on the menu is amazing! I hope they are around the rest of my life so I can eat here when I'm old lol.

Yelp
Delicious as usual. I tried something different Tampenquena (steak with a taco) it was good, my fish taco wasn't what it usually was (slightly soggy). But can't be 100 everytime. My wife got her usual ceviche tostada, and she wasn't disappointed. Great atmosphere downtown, the husband & wife owners are always so welcoming. Try it out!

Mary R.

Yelp
Excellent service and the Vegetarian burrito was yummy! Ate half and will have the rest for dinner tomorrow! Very clean in here too. Salsa is spicy , just the way I like it!

Yelp
We stopped in about 7pm for a late dinner. The staff was very nice. The restaurant was not crowded and it was clean. Service was quick and food was good. I had a taco dinner and my husband had the carnitas dinner. I had a Jameson and it was not watered down. We will definitely come back again.

Yelp
Average Mexican food, average ambiance, and sub par service. The two servers were over worked, having no one to greet guests, no one to ring up orders, and no one to bus tables. A car show was going on, so the foot traffic was high. Definitely not able to handle the amount of people trying to grab breakfast. Our hearts went out to the servers as they were incredibly busy. We got a cup of coffee, never to see anyone again for perhaps a refill. We were lucky to place the order. Couldn't get our bill paid, so went to the front only to hope that our server would be able to help us get out of there. We saw a Starbucks on the corner, so went there to get a second cup of coffee. The food was decent. We had Beef Machaca and a Chile Relleno, both served with rice and beans. The Chile Relleno was smothered in a white cheesy cream sauce. Something different, it was tasty. The cooks were busy, constantly running to the back for more produce or whatever other things that they needed to get their work done. It felt stressful to be honest. I could feel the pressure on each person that worked there. Our server was nice, tried to be efficient, but the cards were against her. Too much to handle for two servers in order to do their job well. Our bill was 30.00, my husband gave her 20.00 tip just because we could see how hard she was trying. To the owner, you need to support your staff. They are working hard but truly need help in order to do their job well.

Yelp
We were walking down Main Street in Visalia today seeking a good place for lunch. After an awful Indian food experience yesterday in Bakersfield I decided to play it very safe and try a family run Mexican restaurant in Visalia. I Yelped them and saw 4 stars. Figured I was in for some great food. The woman greeting us was lovely. We were greeted with the warmth and kindness only seen in a family run establishment. Our waiter was equally as nice. The menu had wonderful lunch options. I was in the mood for a cold Cocteles de Camarones. There was a picture of it on the menu and it looked delicious, something straight out of Mexico. I asked the waiter about it and he told me it was delicious. So what did I get? God only knows. I got a traditional glass dish used for a Coctele but the liquid was watery. There was a squeezed lemon on the plate? Isn't lime the citrus of choice with these? Maybe they ran out of limes - idk. There were a few miniscule bits of cilantro, no salt nor pepper nor any sign of onion. The shrimp were mushy and the dish had no flavor at all. This was a disgrace. This was a 1 star dish and anyone whom understands Mexican food would 100% agree with me. So I could not eat it. Figured I would just have some chips and salsa. OMG. The salsa tasted like spicy chicken gravy. It was probably the worst salsa I have experienced. The chips were cold and hard. My lunch companion had some shrimp wrapped in bacon that was too chewy for him to finish. With two diet Pepsis lunch was $40.92 + tip. So this was not a cheap mistake. Furthermore I realized everyone in the restaurant dining here today was something other than Mexican. So now it all made sense. This is a Mexican joint for non-Mexicans whom have absolutely no clue what Mexican food should taste like. I'm giving them 2 stars because the folks working here are wonderful. However, no way I can ever eat here again.

Yelp
This morning I decided I wanted a beef crunchy taco american style for lunch. I ordered from Colimas. I receive 2 soggy tacos. Because the ground beef was cooked in what looks liked tomato sauce with a can of veg-all (gross). It also had a whole bay leaf in it. If the taco had not fallen apart, i probably would have bitten into it. (Gross again). The beans were ok and the rice was a bit hard. Not cooked all the way. I got chip salsa, the one that is made with can tomatoes. Its sad, I would have had a better lunch if I would of just ordered taco-bell. On a good note my Pepsi was good.

Yelp
We came in sat down and were greeted 15 minutes later with a rude waiter. When it was time to order I specifically told him I had an allergy to gluten and he looked at me and laughed! I hope I don't end up getting sick because I'm really careful about my food! What type of establishment laughs at one's allergies??? They treat everyone differently by the way they are dressed, (by the owner) we witnessed it! They don't care about your health just the money you're going to spend. My husbands enchiladas were supposed to be asada but gave him ground beef! My boys had pancakes for breakfast and they were hardly warm. They never came back to check on us until they offered boxes to go without us asking! We won't be coming back at all. We will just stick with Colimas Mexican restaurant on Lynwood ave! Had to give 1 star because I can't leave none!

Yelp
I didn't realize one of my reviews was from 6 years ago so definitely time to add another. We have been back 2-3 times in the last 2 months alone and the food was really good. Service was 5 star, friendly and courteous. Had one of my favorites, Chile Rellano and Cheese Enchilada Combo plate and it was very good!! Glad I gave it another go from my original visit!! (Probably should have updated years ago)

Yelp
I was in Visalia for work, it was my first time visiting and getting to know its fairly charming downtown area. Had food here this morning with my fiancé. We were greeted by a nice lady who seemed to be the owner or shop runner. Our server asked for our drinks, returned with them and took our order. I ordered a Menudo and my fiancé ordered an Asada Nachos. I asked for more napkins after he brought my fiancé her coffee and he did not acknowledge my request nor did he bring me napkins at any point in our service. Moreover he didn't check on us after the food was dropped off and we had to bother the hostess for both more napkins and more coffee. Our server, a Latino gentleman wearing glasses who is in or approaching his mid-forties, was professional and yet not personable. Anyhow my menudo was fine but not great and my fiancés nachos were the same. They DO give chips and salsa before taking your order which is a nice plus, and those were fresh, warm and crispy. Three well earned stars here.

Yelp
Working in Visalia and got hungry , main strip found this lil place - ambiance was good (not romantic dinner good but ok) Food was very good - I had the mixed fajitas (steak , chicken and shrimp) all was very good , better yet when you have homemade tortillas, price was inline . Service was ok (just not bad enough to knock it down a star ) .

Yelp
The food was very solid, had a great flavor :) I thoroughly enjoyed the Chicken Molé Burrito. I just find the atmosphere to be a little bland, and when I had went; the music was very low, so it was pretty quiet. If you prefer the quiet, then that's all good. But just for me, I was put off by it. But I will come again for the food. :)
google avatar

Yelp
Chili Rellenos w/white sauce...what else need I say! Wait staff was very helpful and friendly
google avatar

Justin S.

Yelp
First impression is this place took over a Chinese Restaurant. It has no atmosphere and lacks decorations, dividers, and decor with tables everywhere. Chips tasted stale and premade. Salsa was alright just spicy. Main entrees were good except refried beans lacked any flavor. I would try other places before returning here.
google avatar

Natalie V.

Yelp
The food was okay but my fork was given to me dirty. When I asked the server for a clean fork, he seemed annoyed. Another example of their horrible customer service was that the waiters didn't check on us after serving us our food. We needed extra napkins and order drinks and they never showed up. They were so quick to give us our check though. Would not recommend.
google avatar

Hilary D.

Yelp
Service was outstanding. Food so incredibly mediocre. No flavor. Dry carnitas. Great corn tortillas. Okay salsa.

Gene L.

Yelp
Yesterday for lunch i ordered the Carnitas. The plate came and i was presented a pile of tasteless chunks of pork and fat. The meat was grayish and looked like boiled pork. Truly unappealing in taste and look. My friend had the carne asada fries. Soggy fries topped with globs of sour cream and guac. Also tastelss plate. I will NEVER go there again!
google avatar

Tanya L.

Yelp
This was our 1st time here and it wasn't all that great. We got seated right way but took at least 10 to 15 minutes to get our drink our and actually order food. At this visit we got Menudo which according to my husband tasted like it came out of the can and the hominy was added later. I had the chorizo burrito. It was ok. We didnt get asked for refills on our coffee and it looked like they were understaffed. 2 girls were up front talking instead of helping and going around tables to assist and see if customers needed anything else. I gave a 2 because I didnt like the service we had. If you want customers to come back you need to have excellent customer service which this failed to do on our visit.

Yelp
Me and my husband were downtown looking for a Mexican place to eat seen two Mexican restaurants and picked Colima we weren't to impressed with our lunch the rice was dry , my chicken enchiladas were dry and my husbands plate wasn't much better . Staff was friendly that's why I gave one star .

Yelp
This was a cute little restaurant in downtown Visalia. We got there at 8pm after a long day at the Sequoia National Park. We were seated immediately. No chips and salsa was given, when we asked they said they were out. We ordered combo fajitas chicken, steak and shrimp, shrimp a La diabla, and a fish taco. We ordered margaritas which were ok. As we sat there they came out with chips and salsa that the chips were cold and almost stale. The salsa was perfect and spicy. Our food was delivered and we waited for the corn and flour tortillas. When we asked about them they said the tortilla maker was gone and they had none left. We asked how we were supposed to eat our fajitas and shrimp without tortillas. Next thing we knew the server brought us corn tortillas saying the owner made them. There was not enough tortillas for 3 people to have. I ate my shrimp a La diabla without tortillas. The shrimp in my meal was completely over done and hard. The fajitas had no flavor and the meat was dry and over cooked. The fish taco was alright and the beans and rice were pretty average. I did also have the stuffed jalapeños wrapped in bacon and they were great. My tip don't go there after 8pm as they clearly didn't want us there.

Yelp
We went here on a Friday night expecting there to be more people but it was quite dead. We got sat right away which was since. Usually at Mexican restaurants you expect there to be music but the only music that was on was coming from the back kitchen. The food was 5/10. It was good but it wasn't the best. The tortillas aren't handmade and came out lukewarm. The salsa with the chips and salsa was watery and not that spicy. I ordered the fired mojarra. It came with rice and beans and half a plate of lettuce. The fish was cooked good but under seasoned. The rice also wasn't that flavorful. The only great thing about my visit was the alcohol. They pour their drinks strong with a good price. Overall it was okay. Forgettable experience but decent.

Yelp
The food and service was fantastic!!! I had the Pastor Burrito with Mole Sauce! We'll be back!

Krazy H.

Yelp
There are 2 Colimas. One on Main Street the other on Linwood. Different owners. I don't like my food pureed. You could suck your beans through a straw. Menudo is hominy and tripe so why is there a damn bone in my bowl. Guacamole so creamy you could spread it on toast like butter, appreciate The Avocado. Chorizo, wow what a colorful dish, if you like bright orange. Overall a waste of money. They need to get that cook a tub of salt or give him his job back at the old folks home. If you want good food from Colimas go to Linwood.

Yelp
First time there and actually enjoyed my Chicken Enchiladas Suizas and tried their Al Pastor Taco. I really enjoyed the Al Pastor Taco because it had lots of flavor, hint of spice and actual pineapple pieces. The taco was pretty big. I'll definitely be back to get more of their tacos. The staff was friendly and would come by our table to make sure we were okay and if we needed anything.
