14 Best Places in California to Get Traditional Goat and Lamb Barbacoa | Eater LA

"While Barbacoa Mejia is the stand to hit up at the Richmond Pulga, there are around a half-dozen competing vendors, all from the state of Hidalgo, selling lamb barbacoa along with essential dishes, including consomé and pancita. This might be the only place in California you can have a Hidalguense barbacoa crawl in one location, all while shopping for cell phone accessories, small appliances, and dishware." - Bill Esparza

I know you lying!! Lmao, it had things if you go dumpster diving there

What a bad experience. The Oakland Flee Market was a total disappointment. Loud music, dirty place, rude vendors inside the food court, scary place. Well, at least I can now say that I tried it. The one in San Jose is much better.

Barinder Sohal

Google
They charging prices like macys🤣 you can get that online for cheaper i understand they have to pay bill but flea markets are made for cheaper price not for macys prices

A brotherly love who pick me up and we walk the flea market for hours had good food &bought a few bargains get out enjoy the sun

Google
Love the variety and fair prices that are always present at the coliseum flea market. I've been coming here for as long as I can remember.

This is an okay swap meet but if you really want to go for a far beyond experience of a pulga or swap meet then I hate to say but San Jose is the best flea market in the state of California. No offense to Oakland. But if you really want the full experience of what a real swap meet looks like. Then take a gander for yourself and then you be the judge. But don’t take my words for it. Be a witness to it open only on weekends off of 680 berryessa rd north of San Jose. Believe me you won’t be disappointed the diversity and environment this pulga is incredible.

Google
Lots of people. Lots sellers and buyers. Has music. Playground on site but is super dirty that I would not let kids touch it.

Yelp
Who wouldn't want to go to pulga 7 days a week? If you wanted to spend an entire year going to the flea market you can at this place and its absolutely awesome. The items for sale are ever changing and you never quite know what you're going to find at this place. Not to mention it has an on site food court with amazing tasting food. To date easily top 3 flea markets I have ever been to and will forever return! Overall this place is a great place to go if you're of African decent. Whatever the color of your money it is appreciated and welcomed here. As you can see from my other reviews I have not had the most pleasant experiences lately in The Bay Area so this location was definitely refreshing...However! I write these reviews based on my experience so that others will benefit from the experiences that I have. But always do your own research!

Yelp
Do NOT go to this seller in the back! He said $1 for everything, when I went to pay, he saw what I had was valuable & decided not to sell it to me! Terrible business! Avoid this dude!! Black guy in a white van selling media. Didn't get his face cause he was hiding. Shame on you bro!!! Karma!!
google avatar

Yelp
I know people really come here for the food!! The food they cook here is authentic Mexican food!!! I love these ladies!! Also I come to walk around and see what goodies are here!! Also they have door dash for the food now like WTH?? I got here early around 830AM but the vendors were still setting up so I figure 11-noon is probably better but get here early for good parking
google avatar

Yelp
Mmmm all I can say is that they had lots of tools and new items and clothing it was ok but just not like the swapmeet's I'm using to going in San Diego. Unless you are guy looking for tools. I ship for vintage used items but nothing vintage here.
google avatar

Yelp
Not only is the a flea market with a large variety of sellers but it also has amazing food. Everything is made from scratch.

Yelp
Only come here for the Chinese massages. For $25 you get 30 min. Great bargain and great way to relieve back pain if you're on a budget. They are located right at the entrance.

Yelp
Just your average neighborHOOD swap meet. NeighborHOOD as in the HOOD. Not the best area and not the cleanest swap meet in the world, but if you're looking for cheap deals then it's the right place to be. I took my Mom here because she was feeling a little spendy and needless to say, she wasn't really impressed. Moms is a bit bougie and not from the area, so if you're thinking about bringing out of towners here, just make sure that they know what to expect. Parking definitely sucks and people in this lot specifically just don't know how to park, so be careful. Everything is cash only so make sure you have enough dough on you when you arrive. I think there's an ATM machine out front but I wouldn't risk it unless you're okay with paying those high ATM fees. There's a $1.50 entrance fee to get in and there's a small cafeteria near the entrance. I think this swap meet works better if you're actually looking for something specific versus just perusing around. The place was super chaotic when we came and especially closer to closing time. They've got clothing, full furniture sets, appliances... literally everything you can think of. They'll bargain with you but it's probably best to do the real bargaining at the end of the day when they are trying to get rid of stuff at the last minute. The problem is, this place gets crowded and packed. In some areas, you are literally body brushing people to get by. And the people here aren't paying attention to where they're walking. The most unappealing element about this swap meet is the lack of cleanliness. Straight from the gate, you can already see how dirty it is from the outside. But once you enter, it's downright appalling. Maybe it was just the day that we went, but there was trash everywhere and it smelled like pee. There were trash cans around, but nobody seemed to use them. The whole area just looks run down, but I guess it's just the convenience factor and the name that's keeping it located here. My favorite part of the swap meet was the churro truck that we went to near the end. It wasn't my favorite swap meet, but I can't deny the variety of deals that they have. I probably wouldn't come here again unless I was looking for something specific, but it was worth the visit.

Yelp
My husband and I have been to this location a few times. We noticed that there is a difference between going during the weekday versus the weekend. There seems to be more vendors on the weekends. We noticed that some vendors will start to pack up by 2:30-3pm. Parking is free, but gets full. Entrance fees: 12 and under are free We went on a Saturday and the cost to enter is $1.50. They have a live music. There are also a few eateries/snacks.

Yelp
Best bang for your buck? Maybe! I've been here a bunch of times over the years for a lot of reasons. Started out as simply something to do on a Saturday or Sunday morning and turned into something I enjoyed. For some families it's a lifestyle. It's really interesting. This particular trip was to acquire a new 10" subwoofer for my truck that could handle some serious wattage. There's a guy there that has the goods. He has good quality equipment and also has some premium stuff. I always like premium. His price was right. Shops would charge way more. This guy has stuff closer to internet prices. I don't remember the name but he's kinda on the left side about 3/4 of the way down. If you see the one stand that only sell complete systems then you are close to him. There is fast food and drink. Beer too! Plus all kinds of stuff you may or may not need! Bring cash and make a deal for yourself! It's super fun! Good vibes all around! Oh! A bit of live jazz was happening while I was there on a Saturday!

Yelp
What a beautiful day. I walked around the flea market for 50 min. It has so much to offer. They sale furniture, auto part item, masks etc. When U was a child they sold used items. Now everything is new! I purchased an iPhone charger. Candy for my daughter grown up Easter basket. She is 21 years young. I purchased her a cute cute cute outfit. She is going to love it! I purchased me some Pistachio nuts. They have lime chili and 1 more spice so yummy! $7. I purchased some eyebrows lashes fo fun and that was it. I got 2,500 steps in. I need 10k so off to Chabot flea markets to browse. Than Costco and Marina! I need these steps! Have a great day!
google avatar

Yelp
$0.50-$2 admission fee depending on the day you go. The market is quite small, and there aren't a whole lot of things to look at. We ended up walking around the entire place in less than 15 minutes and leaving. If you are looking for cheap tools/random things (all secondhand), then maybe worth a visit, but the flea market by Laney College is much better.

Yelp
I've seen the Coliseum Swapmeet sign multiple times while passing the freeway and finally got the chance to check it out. Entrance was $1.75 on Sunday, and parking was a pain trying to enter the lot. We opted to park on the streets near the food tents. There are closer "street parking" spots but we didn't have a big car to make it over the curve. Though the car line stretched far before arriving the lot, inside wasn't as crowded. The place is big and the walkway between different vendors isn't tight. There wasn't much food, but there were an array of snacks and drinks for picking. I didn't end up buying anything; the vendors mostly sell the same products: drills, appliances, blankets, phone gadgets, mattresses. If you're looking for antique items, this is not the flea market for it. Overall the flea market was okay. I wouldn't come back but it's not bad. Just didn't have items I wanted. I

Yelp
Finally came here on Saturday after having driven by the 880 billboard promoting the swap meet. Driving to get here was an adventure. It's great the swap meet is located in a industrial area, but man you definitely see the industrial hood area of Oakland if you plan to visit this swap meet. It's located between 880 and industrial. You'll feel like you've entered a different world. Parking is free, but it's a turn off to pay for admission fee. After you walk the whole grounds you'll question what the fee was for. It's not as big as the Laney college flea market and there's not much haggling going on. It's mainly used tools, household items, questionable electronics. The swap meet really depends on when the vendors want to show up. When we arrived at 11, some were still setting up. I wouldn't say there are hidden gems because I don't have the eyes for them. Maybe it it was the time of day I went but there wasn't much haggling going on. Buyers inquire for the item, vendor spouts a number, buyer walks away. Honestly there wasn't much of a deal for items. Tide detergent was only a couple of bucks off than shopping at the stores. You have the luxury of checking your phone for pricing to determine if things are even a steal. Great place to kill an hour but don't expect much.

Yelp
Open every day of the year - even Christmas... weather permitting. Some items are better to get here than others - but if you have a need for a specific item bust out your negotiation skills and see how you can do. Some items here are better to get than others. Avoid tube socks, old carpets, possibly broken mechanical items. Aim for small hand tools, seasonal stuff and to get out and enjoy the outdoors. Toys, furniture, new cell phone accessories, electronics, computers, its all here. I would try to avoid things like fashion and electronics. Time is the enemy of those things. Unique items and different items every day. If you felt like taking your morning walk here every day of the week there would be no shame in that.... you might overstuff your garage and go crazy like my one friend who I think did this. Bring some hats, sun screen if you plan on sniffing in every corner. I know friends who are outside a lot can get super aged skin and a leathery neck from weekly sunburns. I try to wear a collard shirt when I know I'm going to be outside for a long time. More efficient than going to garage sales everybody is super close to one another in one stop. Bring some wheels or tot bags just in case. Schluging large heavy items is sort of a drag.

Yelp
Fun place to shop. They have good micheladas. My son loves coming here and riding the train around the whole flea market.

Yelp
So unorganized it's terrible especially to sell waited over 3 hrs to sell just to be told it's full nobody gives you a heads up common sense if you have 5 spots left let the other 20 cars know!!! Garbage
google avatar

Michal S.

Yelp
$1 entry fee. Not many people, everyone wearing mask Kind vendors, cheap cool hats, some vintage thrifting, lots of $1 collectibles. Toilet. Little outside bar. Cool offbeat stop on way to Oakland airport.
google avatar

Linda B.

Yelp
I'll give this place about 3 stars. The vendors look a little desperate and some look drugged out. Other vendors are amazing with amazing deals for $1! I'd go back but better watch your back as this place isn't the safest!
google avatar

Yelp
Large open space with a lot of vendors selling both used and new goods. They have household items, clothing, jewelry, shoes, toys fresh fruits and vegetables and $10 Chinese message stations. they have a window tinting service and tire shop at the entrance. This place usually draws a huge crowd to the point where it's a pain just to ride down the main street, today it was really deserted no large crowds and not a lot of vendors. Entrance fee is .50 for adults all children under 11 are free.

Yelp
At the Coliseum swap meet, you can find treasures. Even if you're there to purchase clothes, more than likely you'll get quality name brands- Lucky, Perry Ellis, Polo, Zara, H&M's, Burberry, Guess, etc. They're mostly $1! Some items are fake brands. But mostly legit. You just have to do your homework. A variety of work tools, handbags, shoes, knick knacks, etc. are available for sale. Some of the merchants will give their stuff for free. The best days to go there are Tuesdays & Fridays. Entrance fees range from $.50-$1.50 depending on what days you want to go. And most of all, it's a safe place to shop.
google avatar

Michelle S.

Yelp
I was so excited to come today and enjoy the lovely weather with my sister & daugther the entrance is 1.50 on Sundays.. hmm i didnt know that and they are opem everyday .. anyway alot of items to choose from alot of vendor's waiting for you to buy something from them as you approached their booth as they get their plastic bags ready, stranding there looking at you up and down. They also have a food court that serve mexican and chinese food very pricey but once in a while isn't that bad.. soooo come enjoy this flea market! OHHHHHH ....... This man in the picture was very rude! He told me that i was wasting his time if i wasn't going to buy anything from him and for me to go home, my response was "dont get mad just because nobody wanna buy shit from you"
google avatar

Racheal A.

Yelp
I guess I'm so used to going to flea markets that have people with a bunch of their own stuff to sell rather than the same items over and over again. You have to pay to walk inside the flea market area, I mean it's only about $1.75 per person on a Sunday. It wasn't bad but it's wasn't the best one I've ever been to. Most things were way over priced.
google avatar

Nicole F.

Yelp
If you get here early and bring lots of extra cash-this is the place to walk and look.lots of good deals

Marcus P.

Yelp
They should have services oil changing barakes etc about cars services washing like the chinese massages. Hope more for asian car services. Love this place money worth it

Yelp
This message is to the SWAP MEET! Yelp is a website where you leave a feedback based on your experience and that's what I did. I find it Hilarious you are comparing Laney College to the Swap Meet. That's like comparing a Lamborghini to a Ford Pinto Laney is 1000x better than the Swap Meet. Laney is once a week (Sunday) If you feel uncomfortable parking in the parking lot or its extremely full, you can always park across the street at bart parking (Free) Don't feel like driving to Laney you can take Bart and the Bart lets you out right at the College Parking Lot. You are absolutely % right There is a $2.00 entry fee but the first 3 - 4 rows of vendors are free before you reach the gate to pay. Once you are there. You will see things you had when you were a kid and also when mom & dad was a kid. You will see tons of stuff for sell people use to have back in the 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s. The cool part about these vendors they are willing to negotiate with the buyer. You mention the portable toilets, Most people have GPS and the nearest McDonald's is Alameda which is only a mile & half away. Target is on 5th street in Alameda 1 mile away from the Flea Market. You are Hilarious. You mention $1.25 entry fee compare to $2.00 Wow a whole $0.75 cents savings Lmao. Then you mention 10 cent Walmart bags. I use my own reusable bags Oakland is known for selling knockoffs!! You have hundreds of people selling knock off brands at Laney & Swap Meet. I was not verbally assaulting anyone about their personal hygiene. I was being straight forward and telling you the truth. Laney offers free portable toilets and people use them. Swap Meet should offer Free portable showers. Remember you are not fully clean unless you are zestfully clean. https://youtu.be/9vNRAQZyJVs

Yelp
AHHHH!!! I LOVE this flea market!!! I literally can find anything and EVERYTHING I need. I went the other day towards the end of the day and this guy literally wanted all of his stuff gone! So he just started shouting "FREE, FREE!!" I was like...ummmm....yes I love the "random clothes" tables. My mom wears very specific clothing including this brand called Desigual. I believe it's an Italian designer. One shirt costs about $100-300 dollars. I was looking through a pile of clothes and saw a dress that looked like something my mom would wear, so I picked it up and it was an authentic Desigual dress in her size!!! Ive found vintage designer glasses from brands like Dolce and Gabana and Nine West for like $2 bucks each! This place is LOADED with hidden treasure. Fun for kids too!!! Lots of little toy bins to look through. I'll insert some pics of my finds!
google avatar

Manuel S.

Yelp
I great place to find those odd items. People are nice. Parking can be a little challenging but all and all we had a great time.
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
Super cheap to get in here. Not much to see on a weekday but weekends especially Sundays are the best time to come as all the vendors are here and you can grab a beer and walk around. Good place to window shop and look through all the stands and booths. You might be able to find some hidden gems here. If you are looking for shampoos, cosmetics and pills like allergy meds, you can purchase them here for a fraction of the price.
google avatar

Yelp
YMMV: Your Mileage May Vary I love flea markets and swap meets. At the End/Start end of every month you can usually find me at the Alameda Antique Faire and/or the Treasure Island Flea; I can't wait for the upcoming Oakland White Elephant Sale; I used to go to flea markets back in Tampa all the time as well. From a vendor at Alameda I was aware of this, but generally don't make it down by the Coliseum. On a Saturday after hitting up a great furniture sale, I was 5 minutes from the Swap so figured I would finally check it out. As many have said, parking is a shit show. There is a dedicated entrance and a dedicated exit, but the entrance is also the entrance to a body shop/car wash so you will definitely go down the wrong way. Oh, and because of the weird parking lot and people not caring, I got to experience someone park in the central lane which caused a huge traffic jam from an already confusing lot. One of the nice things is the very cheap entrance rates. On Saturday it is a whopping $1.50! For cooked food, they have a concession stand offering a mix of Chinese and Mexican food - which is indicative of the customer base. There was also a food truck offering a similar mix. But when you consider all the great Mexican food trucks like El Gordo in the area, I'd pick those instead. The stalls are a mix of fresh produce, Mexican candy, ornamental plants, knock-off products, custom lego figures, some swap booths, and "stuff that fell off trucks." As a few have joked, you definitely get a sense that some of the vendors are selling stolen goods. I ended up going to a swap booth and getting Darth Vader Stance socks for $4. So win for me! You can definitely kill an hour here, but couldn't see more than that.
google avatar

Anne T.

Yelp
Let's see what we can find today. The parking lot seemed big, but it was full. There are no parking fees, but there is an entrance fee of $1.50 per person on Sundays. I didn't expect much. Just came here to get some cupping done. It's an old Chinese treatment to alleviate any pain in your body, etc. I didn't know much about it, but my friend said it would help my shoulder from a muscle strain. I agreed and laid in a make shift room inside a yellow truck. The lady proceeded to rub my back with tiger balm and started the air compresser machine. The entire massage and cupping process took about 30 min and $20 later, I started to feel some relief in my shoulders. Feeling a bit better, I walked around and explored the swap meet. We found the blue cap Lucas candy, mango and watermelon lollipops, and a few parasols. My friends bought fresh bread to shoes and MAC make-up. There was array of everything you've never needed, but everything that you've ever wanted. It was a fun-filled day that ended with a large horchata drink. *thumbs up*

Yelp
This is a fairly large flea market with a little more fun than most of the others in the area. Some vendors even set up some fun for the kids: mechanical bull, blow up fun houses, slides, cartoon animals to sit on There's also some adult fun to be had if you're into mariachi or Spanish vocals. They also have multiple booths throughout, selling beer or micheladas at reasonable prices. If you're hungry, there's plenty of food and snacks for sale here too. What kind of treasures might you find here? Well, my objective was to find a cruiser bike for Burning Man. I expected to see more bikes here but didn't. Maybe, another weekend would make a difference. Nevertheless, I did find one Schwinn cruiser bike and walked off with it for $60. Besides, the shortage of bikes, there were plenty of other things sold here in abundance. clothing, toys, nuts, candy, cheap & fake make up products, tools, antiques, jewelry, cheesy artwork, figurines, shiny hair accessories, miscellaneous household products, belts, shoes, socks, undergarments, fruits, vegetables, bedding, mattresses, and crappy electronics There is an entrance fee of $.50 during the week, $1.25 on Saturday and $1.50 on Sundays. There is plenty of parking although it can get crowded sometimes. I would not recommend driving your fancy car here. Some of the spaces can be tight. Security in the parking lot is monitored by security in a tall watch tower.
google avatar

Kathleen W.

Yelp
$1.50 on a Sunday. Don't bother going when it rains ... (duh I guess?) - but hey, there's plenty of parking!! With the fruit and dried food you can get some good deals .... but nothing terribly interesting otherwise. We went for carseats covers, found only 1 vendor (again, it was raining) and her stuff was bleh. We ended up finding carseat covers for a fraction of the price at Grocery Outlet. Go figure?!

Yelp
Checked this place out on a whim - hoping to find some of my stolen property. What I found instead was a crazy outdoor version of every market neighborhood from Mexico City right here in Oakland! There is fried snack-land, fresh fruit land, bicycle parts land, plastic containers land - even a whole section with just high-vis colored safety work wear! Fascinating people watching and a whole lot of crazy cheeap stuff from China. Pretty sure the produce is all conventional (didn't see any "organic" signs) and it's a great place to practice your bartering skills in Spanish. Did not find my stolen property - and, frankly, there wasn't much there that I needed (aside from freshly fried potato chips!).
google avatar

Isa W.

Yelp
Randomly stopped by after the Raider nation celebration event at the coliseum. Did a quick walk through & was amazed how much cool things they had for sale. $12 lip gloss for $3 EACH! whaaaat?! that is a steal! i got about $12 worth. happy camper. definitely going back to find some more goodies. :)
google avatar

Jocelyn C.

Yelp
I understand the majority of people that are selling & shop there are latino, but seriously, do some of the vendors really have to yell out in Spanish & blast Spanish music? Like I said, the majority of people ARE latino, but still....THERE'S OTHERS SHOPPING TOO! How are we supposed to know what they are saying when they are blabbing out something to sell something in Spanish? This flea market is quite big & you can get good deals too, so it is still a good flea market, even though Spanish is spoken EVERYWHERE you go here. LOL Not to mention, the parking lot gets packed. If you go to this place during the week, its only 50 cents a head. :)

Scott S.

Yelp
This place is ignorant. I just spent yesterday packing my truck full of tools clothes antiques Etc. Then arrive to a two hour wait just to get in. Then yes my mistake leaving my wallet at home. I politely asked to use a space and sell a few items and then pay the 18$. Without even a consideration she refused. I am certain this place is low if they don't trust that I would sell 18$ worth of really nice stuff. Waste of time is all this place is. Coliseum swap covid meet..is my opinion now.

Yelp
As a local, if you can come here a few times and get a feel for how things work, it is probably a good place to frequent. As an out-of-towner, I had a tough time with this flea market. My first attempt to go was on Sunday May 7. It was late afternoon and I figured things would be starting to wind down. However- this was totally not the case. Even though it was about an hour before closing time, the street was jammed with cars. I could not get in to the parking lot for about 35 minutes. When I got there, there were no spots. There were guards manning a gate with an empty parking lot behind it. Why were they not letting people in there to park? The whole thing was completely mismanaged. I finally got into the small parking lot and found no spots (this took another 15 minutes as about 50 other cars were circling looking for spots too). I left in frustration because there was nowhere to park. From what little I saw, it looked very busy inside. I tried again the following Saturday and had a very different experience. I went at 330PM (it closes at 530PM). It was much less crowded - there was no line at the street, and I got a parking spot right away, in a large parking lot with plenty of free parking (why wasn't that lot open on Sunday!? That's poor management). There was no line to get in. The vendors had a good mix of used/yard-sale type/new/food items. It was interesting to say the least. It was a little dirty/gross- there were several places where people had barfed, and I did see some pigeons sitting on top of a pile of peanuts that was supposed to be for sale... One disappointing thing is that vendors pack up WELL ahead of the closing time. Most markets like this require the vendors to stay until closing, but at this one they seem to start leaving more than 2 hours before closing. Too bad you still pay full price to get in no matter what time you get there. PRO's: -Unlike some flea markets that are held in a big field, this is in an old drive-in movie theater, so it is all paved. -Parking is free when you can get it and when the guards are doing their jobs -Entrance fee is not too high -Good mix of used/new items -Open 7 days a week! CONs: -Parking is badly managed and slow to get in and out, when you can park at all -Grounds are dirty, lots of garbage on the floor, etc -The opening hours and admission fees change daily, which is confusing -The location is in the middle of nowhere, in an industrial district (though there is a big billboard visible from the highway) -The name is unclear; some places call it the "Oakland Flea Market", some call it "Coliseum Public Market", others call it "West Wind" -If you haven't been here before, you might find all of this somewhat intimidating -Vendors pack up and leave *several hours* before closing time Pro tip- here is the admission fee structure broken down by day-of-the week. Obviously, Sunday is the most popular (and expensive): Monday, Wednesday, Thursday: $0.50 Tuesday, Friday: $0.75 Saturday: $1.25 Sunday: $1.50

Yelp
Always pass by when I'm on the 880, so one day the bf and I decided to go on a whim to see what the fuss was all about. Prior to entering, we saw some dude carrying a door (???) back to his car...so this should've been a sign of what we were about to be in for. We were initially a little discouraged when we saw a sign that said entrance fee...was about to scrap the whole idea and go back to the car when we saw the price-- $1.50. Oh...what the hell. Live a little. Half of the merchandise were common household items & decor, (bootlegged?) games & dvds, colorful tacky clothing, and knockoff shoes. Things one might need but not necessarily want to purchase from here. The other half consisted of obviously used and/or stolen stereos, misc car parts (spinners, rims, tires, mufflers, grills), designer sunglasses purses & clothing. If my car ever gets broken into, I know where to check first. Walked a full circle and stayed for about 20 minutes...but it will be an experience we will not forget any time soon.

Yelp
Wish I could give 0 stars. Came this morning to sell for the first time here. I asked the woman checking us in what time I could leave as a vendor and she said anytime just go to the back gate. I arrive at the back gate at 2pm, call the office to ask for them to remove the lock so I can leave, and they say they can not until 4pm. I let them know I was told I could leave anytime, I have a job I need to go to. They were rude & responded that that wasn't their problem & that it was for safety purposes since there's people walking. Take into consideration, we were already at the gate- we already passed all the people walking. How hard is it to open the door and let us leave? If they would have said in the morning when I asked that I couldn't leave until 4pm I wouldn't have stayed. I am going to be reprimanded at work due to a staff member being un knowledgeable and giving false information in the morning. Completely rude & inconsiderate I am no longer coming as a vendor or as a customer.

Yelp
They sure do a good job of marketing their swap to not have: 1) An ATM machine. 2) Very limited (as in TWO) vendors who take credit cards and/or have square. 3) Employees who know what is going on. Half the vendors were surprised to find there was not an ATM machine. The other half knew there was not. Thankfully we only paid $3, as we couldn't do or buy anything without cash. Or a means to get cash.

Yelp
When I first heard of this place from Mr. Face, I didn't know what I was in for... meaning I didn't know swap meet was another term for flea market. It's okay. There's nothing great, and from the few times we've gone we haven't found anything great. Ate here a couple of times... Next time I'll just starve and wait to eat after leaving. But the most recent time.... I found a Mexican candy that I used to get from the ice cream man when I was little for just 50 cents! Made the trip there that day worth it!

Yelp
Swap Meet / Flea Market you can find cheap things / useful things, Fun to walk around and explore and look see if you can find any treasures. I would try to go on a sunday where you can possibly go here than to a warriors / A's / Raiders game. Really close by the stadium. I enjoy the food at these places and the snacks. Entry is about $1.50 and you get free parking! So a fun walking activity to do, and the price is cheaper then other places.

Yelp
Cheap stuff lures in everyone: families with bouncing kids, limping thugs, hunched over geriatrics, and of course, a healthy dose of hipster. Whether it be produce or plastic, the goods are generally fresh off the back of some truck or cargo container from China and priced fairly. A little haggling goes a long way, and the $1-$1.50 entrance fee is reaped back quickly. The gems to be found: estate sale discards bras that can stand up on their own two for $25 denim made to have to peel off trendy knock offs of the knock offs dresses and tops fake MAC make-up socks (huh?) gaucho gear including awesome hued, embroidered shirts, cowboy hats and baby blue ostrich leather belts blatantly stolen bikes (first stop if yours went missing) pr0n (or so the yelpers report) The bands and DJs are loud, and you may be kicking up some trash. But grab a churro and Mexican beer and dig around in the sunshine, and you're bound to discover a tchotchke you can't live without.

Yelp
I was really excited to visit this Swap Meet for the first time because I thought I would find shaved ice, greasy french fries, frozen chocolate bananas and limon popsicles waiting for me. Unfortunately, there were none of those items to be found. The food selection was quite disappointing, actually. But there was a taco truck near by and lots of stands leading to the swap meet offering cold juices and coconuts. That's cool, but not officially part of the swap meet. This is why my overall review of this place is 3.5, and I've rounded up to 4 for a very specific reason I'll mention soon. But first, I'll talk about the selection. The selection here is all over the place. Cheap stuff all around. Definitely a place to go if you want to find crazy belt buckles. I am trying to recall what exactly else I saw: socks on the cheap, doodads, blankets, snacks of various kinds (chips, nuts, candy), shoes, t-shirts. I even bought a necklace with a bubble bottle attached to it for ONE dollar. The bottle is in shape of a gat and it is hot pink... need I say more? Lots of the items here are heavily, how do I say this, latino influenced. I'm not saying that in a bad way: I AM latina! Want to know the best part about the heavy latin influence at this swap meet? The part that made me round up from 3.5 to 4 stars? MEXICAN BEER. Yes, you can buy a mexican beer and sip on it as you walk around the swap meet. Hell. Yes.

Yelp
My wife and sister-in-law were clap yo hands excited to stop by this swap meet on our way to the Oakland Museum. When they were little youngsters the San Fernando Valley Swap Meet was their shopping mall. One stop shop for underwear, socks, jeans, shoes, and more. However, at this particular swap meet the fond memories did not come flowing back. There isn't much to this swap meet. Although it looks big and can hold a lot of vendors after walking through 2 aisles of stalls you've pretty much seen it all. Big booty jeans (something I wish but never could fit into), 4 pairs for $1 socks, 5 for $1 bras, cheap jewelry and stolen stereos pretty much sums it up. We did find a $25 dollar molcajete which was worth every penny and my wife bought about $20 worth of Mexican candy and snacks. No need for her parents to smuggle it out of the Motherland anymore. Other than that, our experience was kinda boring.

Yelp
I LOVE the Flea Market!!! I Hella Love Oakland!!! This place is one hella funny, raucus, live and in living color cliche after another. In my first review I told ya'll about the cast of Mi Vida Loca and all that. This time around it was every cliche about Indians, Arabs, and Mexicans. I freakin' love Oakland! Well, 'cept the cat who was ogling my 10 yo daughter. That, my friend will get you kilt in a Oakland minute. I will cut you! If I don't get a jump on you, my husband/ her dad will. Rule in our house: You can date after you are married. Period. Mother in Law bought a portrait of the Virgen de Guadalupe for my 10 yo. Nevermind that we are super crappy Catholics and even worse Mexicans (at least husband is) and our kids have no idea who the Virgen is. Kinda funny exchange between abuela and grandkid discussing the buying of the portrait: Abuela: Do you want it? I'll buy it for you. I had one in my room when I was your age. Kid: Uh, who is it? Abuela: Whaddya mean, Who is it? Don't you know who the Virgen is? Kid: Oh sure. I know who she is. Abuela: (Turns to vendor to pay for portrait) Kid: (Turns to me shrugs her shoulders and mouths 'Who is that?)' BWAHAHAHAHA! Loved it! Totally made my day! I Love Oakland! Total haul during this trip to the flea market: *Portrait of the Virgen that will go in the basement next to other 'thoughtful' gifts from Abuela. *Bunches of crappy cheap made in China toys made by children for children. * Roasted nuts, garbanzo beans, small bananas, *one watch battery replaced * Asada Tortas that thankfully didn't give anyone the squirts. All in all, a good day! I Love Oakland!

Yelp
Disappointment. It's huge, but not as huge as it looks from the freeway. The variety is sub par. In fact, I only recall places selling: giant-sized socks, cheap clubbin' clothes, kitchenware, and candy. A few places selling jewelery, but not cute jewelery. Not cute at all. Funky, antique-y artifact wielding vendors -- Where have you gone? Cuz it's fosho not the Oakland Coliseum Swap meet. Full disclosure: I had a delicious tamale from a taco truck inside the swap meet. I'd say that was a redeeming factor. Slightly.

Yelp
Sundays this place is craaaaaaaaaackin'! If it's your first time coming out here just follow cars that are headed in that direction. I came out here on a Sunday and got what I expected, A SHIT LOAD OF PEOPLE! I actually didn't have much trouble getting a parking spot. Although I will add that people suck at parking here, so do not be surprised to see a spot but not be able to fit into it because people are parking all janky. I'd have to say I was not please with the fact that there's an entrance fee waaaaack, some would day well its just a $1.50 but damn I could've used that to get a curro or something! My favorites in particular at this swap meet are the used goods, you can find some pretty cool stuff and of course hussle on prices. Saw someone selling some cool toys and old school video games. Other than that everything else are like bootlegs, clothing, and random goods. But yes this place is crackin and there was even a band playin while I was there. Going once every few months would be alright not really the type of place to hit up every weekend. But I guess it's cool since this spot is open throughout the week?
