Colombi Hotel

So to start we reserved a three night stay and exited to begin our 14 day Christmas Market adventure in Freiburg. Unfortunately this ended up a C Plus rating compared to many other hotels visited in a similar category. Staff were awkward around guests and not all that friendly…. with a few exceptions. Our room was uncomfortably warm and even with two calls to reception the only answer was open a window. Check in was not very helpful or proactive with information about Christmas markets or what else to while in Freiburg. Lot of rules in general. Breakfast buffet food was good - lot of variety. On Sunday morning the restaurant was very busy even at 10 am and it is weird that once they check you in you are asked to find your own table and as you are roaming the dining room all the guests are staring at you while you are searching for available tables among those that have not yet been cleaned. You could hear a pin drop when we walked in. If you want anything out of the ordinary when you call room service lower your expectations. The bathroom needs a renovation and the shower pressure was non existent. On the positive side there were a few happy and helpful staff and it is a very nice property convenient to old town and the main train station. Overall comment - it’s an up and down experience - you’ll have one good experience offset by two not so good and so on and so forth. In the end - we were glad to be checking out and moving to our next five star property where they are killing it.

The perfection are in details. The team is impeccable. That's for sure the best hotel in Freiburg. Don't forget to pass by the restaurant (Michelin Star) and try the Cake long list in the cafe. Walnuts cake 🍰 is my favorite.

Unfortunately the hotel is not a true five star hotel. We had multiple issues that were not addressed but I’d like to highlight two important ones that can ultimately affect people’s health. -it is not a smoke free hotel. Despite the hotel being 100% smoke free on the lhw.com website, (a group the hotel so famously claims to be a part of), the hotel lobby and common areas share the same space as the hotel bar that is smoking. The doors to the bar are always open allowing the smoke to greet you in the lobby (a mere 100ft from open bar door to lobby). The hotels son stated that they do not claim to be 100% smoke free hotel. So they can not help us. —the heat was unbearable. We asked for assistance with the heater all 3 nights - waited for the technician that never came. It was uncomfortable all night, we did not rest an was difficult to stay hydrated when sweating all night. Each night we were blown off. Not a fun relaxing vacation. We had to sleep with the windows open. Those were two big issues that compromised a good stay. Just beware the hotel, and staff, are wolves in sheep’s clothing. Not ideal for those truly seeking a 5 star experience. Save your money and go down to Baden Baden where you can experience what five star treatment really is like :) unlike the Colombi where you are met with cigarette smoke in the hotel lobby during check in- you will be welcomed into the hotel with a glass of champagne and front desk who will do whatever it takes to make your experience five star enjoyable :) Also as a true five star hotel wouldn’t have pink bacteria in their shower- seriously skip this hotel and find a true five star in Baden Baden !

My absolute favorite hotel in EU. Noble class. The real thing. Attention to detail. Generosity. All i need is there. I love the pool and spa. I love the staff. Mario is amazing. They go out of their way. I love the piano and the puano bar. The garden. The owner is always present and working! The breakfast IS THE BEST EVER. Generosity variety, healthy choices, and many choices, all types of nuts i love. Papayas always fresh. CONSISTENT QUALITY AND SERVICE FOR 3 YEARS NOW. I am always SO HAPPY to return. AMAZING LOCATION.

The only place to stay in Freiburg . I love this hotel . Fabulous ! The bar and music ( live piano ) has been a ‘staple ‘ for so many years and I love it . Herr L(j) ordan in the coffee / afternoon restaurant bar was so lovely ( very professional , discreet and respectful of the many ages ) and a great asset to the Columbi philosophy .

This place may call itself a 5-star hotel, but honestly, that’s just for show. The bar service was a total letdown slow, sloppy, and flat-out rude. The sommelier? Wow. Dude straight-up humiliated me in front of other guests like it was no big deal. Talk about unprofessional. That kind of behavior might fly in a dive bar, but in a supposedly luxury hotel? Not cool. It didn’t even feel like a one-off more like they’re used to treating people like that. Totally unacceptable for a place that charges top dollar. Unless management seriously steps in and cleans house, I wouldn’t recommend this spot to anyone who actually expects to be treated with basic respect.

We have fellowship here in their seminar room with my filipino colleagues for a Filipino meet-up. Very organize and clean...the foods and drinks are also included with the agreed price

In principle a nice hotel, not cheap, on an excellent location in the city of Freiburg. However, we requested upfront extra attention for the cleaning of the room, because my wife has a dust allergy. The room was really dirty... the management did not even apologize.

Intimate hotel with great attention to detail. Maybe one of my favorite bars in the world. Low lighting, rich paneled wood, bar tender in tuxedo, piano player and a real fire place l.

This is fabulous hotel. My husband and I stayed there for three weeks when I took a course at the Max Planck Institute (which is just up the road a bit) during the summer. When we arrived they had provided us with fresh fruit and bottled water, as well fresh flowers. Fresh flowers were put in the room regularly. I would get so hot walking back from class in the heatwave they had that summer, that my husband would turn the AC up in our room, which got to frigid levels. The hotel doesn't skimp on anything. Our room came with free morning breakfast (not all do), which was an incredible buffet the likes of which Las Vegas would be proud. The hotel staff was welcoming, the maids were perfection, and the room itself (a suite really) was both comfortable and beautiful. It has wonderful views and is right in the midst of town. It is very clean in the common areas and the pool area is immaculate. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat.
