London’s New Restaurant Openings

"Sri Lankan restaurant, Colombo Kitchen, is coming to Putney. This second spot will have a “live hopper and kottu bar” where you can watch chefs prepare dishes. There’ll also be a signature cocktail menu with things like tamarind sours, downsouth highballs, and a Jaffna martini. " - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

I took the Uber Boat all the way to Putney to check out this hidden gem. Denu welcomed me right at the door and invited me in—coincidentally, that was exactly where I was headed. I was promptly seated downstairs by the window, where the ambience was warm and relaxed. The server was exceptionally attentive, offering food and drink suggestions that matched my preferences perfectly. I had my eye on the mutton Lamprais, but since it’s only served on weekends, he suggested the mutton kottu instead. Absolutely delicious (opt for mild if you’re not big on spice). The lychee sangria cocktail was the perfect finishing touch to an already wonderful lunch. All in all, a fantastic meal in a charming spot.

Loved the atmosphere. Went there on a Sunday so it’s not quite busy. I ordered a vegetarian lamprais and it’s one of the best I’ve had. Watalappan served with vanilla ice cream and crushed cashew for garnish was a perfect touch. Highly recommend trying those both. Staff were really friendly from the beginning. Positive energy and professionalism! Will definitely visit this place. Parking was available in side roads.

We love it here! The staff are tentative, friendly and give good recommendations. The cocktails and wine glasses are cooled and frosted which is a lovely luxury touch. Would recommend the share platter for starters so you can try the different dishes. We have enjoyed all the meals, wines and cocktails we've had here so would recommend for date night or with friends. Mutton curry is our repeat !

Being a Srilankan, my search for ‘home food’ out side the home is over🥰. Oh my goodness the food was just amazing, bursting with flavours and scrumptious. We savoured every bite and was in food coma at the end of the meal! I found my new favourite restaurant 🙌🏼 Don’t think twice to give this place a go.

We recently visited Colombo Kitchen Putney and it was an amazing experience! We had never tried Sri Lankan food before, and the staff was so helpful with recommendations. The food was incredibly flavorful, with a perfect balance of spice. I especially enjoyed the Hopper and king fish curry, which was cooked perfectly. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was friendly and inviting. I highly recommend Colombo for anyone looking for authentic and delicious Sri Lankan cuisine.

Absolutely Top Notch! Hands down, the best Sri Lankan food I’ve had in London. We drove all the way from East London, and it was absolutely worth the trip. We had the mutton lamprais (only the mutton is halal), fish patties, pol rotis, and condensed milk tea. The lamprais arrived sizzling hot, generously packed with tender mutton, aubergine moju, cashews, seeni sambol, a cutlet, and a boiled egg. I’ve tried lamprais at a few other places, but this one blows them out of the water. My wife and I polished it off—not a grain of rice left. It was that good. The pol roti was soft in the middle with a lovely texture, and paired with the sambol, it instantly transported us back to Sri Lanka. The fish patties were packed with flavour and made for a great starter. The tea was served with a classic Marie biscuit—such a nostalgic touch! It was a bit on the sweeter side for our taste, but still a comforting way to end the meal. Service was just as impressive. Kesara went above and beyond to make sure we had a pleasant experience, and Sylvia, the owner, is such a warm and welcoming person. Tip: Parking can be tricky on weekdays, but there’s free parking on nearby side streets on Sundays. Can’t wait to go back and try the fish ambul thiyal next time!

Colombo Kitchen has quickly become my favourite restaurant in London. Their buffet is full of authentic Sri Lankan dishes, and the flavours truly reminded me of home. My favourite was the kos mallum, which was fresh, perfectly cooked and so tasty. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with lovely background music that made the whole experience even more enjoyable. A must-visit for anyone who loves real Sri Lankan food! Definitely visiting again!

We had an absolutely amazing experience at Colombo Kitchen. As a Sri Lankan myself, I can confidently say the food here is truly authentic. We tried egg hoppers, milk tea, milk coffee, fried rice, and the watalappam dessert — each dish was full of genuine flavor and reminded us of home. Special thanks to Keshala for the outstanding customer service — friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The atmosphere and hospitality made us feel like we were right back in Sri Lanka. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a real taste of Sri Lanka. We'll definitely be back!
