London’s New Restaurant Openings

"Sri Lankan restaurant, Colombo Kitchen, is coming to Putney. This second spot will have a “live hopper and kottu bar” where you can watch chefs prepare dishes. There’ll also be a signature cocktail menu with things like tamarind sours, downsouth highballs, and a Jaffna martini. " - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

Absolutely Top Notch! Hands down, the best Sri Lankan food I’ve had in London. We drove all the way from East London, and it was absolutely worth the trip. We had the mutton lamprais (only the mutton is halal), fish patties, pol rotis, and condensed milk tea. The lamprais arrived sizzling hot, generously packed with tender mutton, aubergine moju, cashews, seeni sambol, a cutlet, and a boiled egg. I’ve tried lamprais at a few other places, but this one blows them out of the water. My wife and I polished it off—not a grain of rice left. It was that good. The pol roti was soft in the middle with a lovely texture, and paired with the sambol, it instantly transported us back to Sri Lanka. The fish patties were packed with flavour and made for a great starter. The tea was served with a classic Marie biscuit—such a nostalgic touch! It was a bit on the sweeter side for our taste, but still a comforting way to end the meal. Service was just as impressive. Kesara went above and beyond to make sure we had a pleasant experience, and Sylvia, the owner, is such a warm and welcoming person. Tip: Parking can be tricky on weekdays, but there’s free parking on nearby side streets on Sundays. Can’t wait to go back and try the fish ambul thiyal next time!

We had an absolutely amazing experience at Colombo Kitchen. As a Sri Lankan myself, I can confidently say the food here is truly authentic. We tried egg hoppers, milk tea, milk coffee, fried rice, and the watalappam dessert — each dish was full of genuine flavor and reminded us of home. Special thanks to Keshala for the outstanding customer service — friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. The atmosphere and hospitality made us feel like we were right back in Sri Lanka. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a real taste of Sri Lanka. We'll definitely be back!

We recently visited Colombo Kitchen Putney and it was an amazing experience! We had never tried Sri Lankan food before, and the staff was so helpful with recommendations. The food was incredibly flavorful, with a perfect balance of spice. I especially enjoyed the Hopper and king fish curry, which was cooked perfectly. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere was friendly and inviting. I highly recommend Colombo for anyone looking for authentic and delicious Sri Lankan cuisine.

We had dinner here and had a fantastic experience! The staff were warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. The food was full of flavor, and the cocktails were enjoyable too. The standout dishes for us were the Lamprais and hoppers.

We had an amazing experience at this restaurant! Kesh was fantastic and really helped us choose the perfect dishes. For starters, we tried the fish lamprais , beautifully wrapped in a banana leaf and bursting with rich, complex flavours. We also shared the Negombo king prawn curry, which was absolutely delicious, especially when paired with the layered, handmade paratha roti. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere warm and welcoming. A true gem in Putney that represents Sri Lankan cuisine at its best!!highly recommended!

Just had the most amazing Sri Lankan meal at this gem of a restaurant in Putney (they’ve also got a location in Worcester Park)! From the very first bite, everything was packed with bold, authentic flavors. We kicked things off with *mutton rolls* and *chicken puff pastries*—both perfectly crispy and full of spicy goodness. A must-try! For mains, I went with the *Sri Lankan spicy chicken curry*, *dhal curry*, and *tempered beans*—a combo that hit every note, rich, hearty, and full of real Sri Lankan taste. The *hot toddy cocktail* was the perfect finisher—warm, comforting, and just the right amount of kick. The staff were super friendly, and the whole vibe was welcoming and relaxed. If you’re into real, flavorful Sri Lankan food, this spot is *definitely worth a visit*!

We were very excited to dine at Colombo Kitchen after having tried Kolamba and Hoppers earlier in the week, but unfortunately our experience was disappointing. Dinuka was extremely welcoming and the staff were all very nice, but unfortunately there were too many “misses” (coming from the perspective of a group of Sri Lankans). -Milk hoppers were not done right; excessive coconut cream that was added after the fact rather than ‘integrated’ into the hopper -Watalapan lacked cardamom -Biscuit pudding was overly sweet -Seafood Kothu portion was very small and lacked sufficient seafood -Black pork curry wasn’t dry and missing the “black” spices and felt more like a regular pork curry -significant delay between egg hoppers and milk hoppers, first batch of cocktails and second batch -my Colombo toddy cocktail felt overly sweet and lacking sufficient alcohol On the positive side: -fish cutlets were good -chicken curry was made spicy as per our request and had good flavour -egg hopper was done to perfection and came with black pepper -aubergine moju was a nice contrast to the other dishes because of its sweetness -lamprais meat was a little dried out but overall the dish was decent -fried okra was lightly battered and was a great appetizer Overall, I would recommend Colombo Kitchen for their warm hospitality and earnestness. And if you aren’t a Sri Lankan food connoisseur, you will probably be quite pleased with the food, especially since they will customize to your desired spice level.
