"Damelo Cafe is a planned brick-and-mortar restaurant in Southwest Detroit, set to open in the building formerly home to Charlie Clark’s Bar at the corner of Morrell Street and West Vernor Highway. It will focus on healthy, plant-based meals, including vegan tacos, and may offer a dry bar with non-alcoholic cocktails and host live music events." - Brenna Houck

I would not recommend this place. The food was disappointing and not up to expectations. It didn’t taste fresh or flavorful, and I was really hoping for a better experience. Unfortunately, it didn’t meet my standards, and I left feeling unsatisfied. Sorry, but I won’t be returning.

Google
Food was amazing, I have been visiting this place with my friends here and there but it is definitely worth the price and the taste. I paid for a whole breakfast and coffee for less than $10. The waitresses are also very kind and are amazing at customer service, overall 10/10 experience, will be coming back for more food 😋 🍴 🍽

Quick stop for two coneys with extra onions.

Been eating here since I was a kid , I’m from the neighborhood so I believe in supporting the neighborhood asked waitress to ask the cook to put on gloves she says “ we don’t have gloves to put on “ so I said that’s fine I’ll take a refund “ she then says well if he puts gloves on do you still want it …. I never felt so disrespected in my life at the moment my service didn’t mean a thing only my money did I will never eat here again the cook was cool about it older white guy but that waitress lied for no reason and was rude I’ll go to dulys from here on

I went in and the service was dry. I have never been to this Coney Island so I decided to stop in and I order Corn Beef Hash & hash browns with grilled onions on my hash browns. The Corn beef hash looks like straight dog food I was expecting actual corn beef and my onions were burnt. I will never go back to this establishment!!

Yelp
Colombo's is the last of a dying breed. Full - Service 24/7 diner. In Detroit, I believe only it and Duly's are the only 24/7s with a waitstaff. I've gone to Colombo's often. I get an omelette, and it's always very good size and well made. The Hash Browns are very good too and come with the meal. The prices are awesome (at least they were the last time I went). You're getting an omelette and Hashbrowns for $10. Never, ever ask for any modifications on an omelette or a meal. Their upcharge rules cannot be deciphered by any mortal human being. They make sense to them, and them alone. The waitstaff is awesome, even when they're working at 2 AM. You get your coffee refilled a ton. They're incredibly helpful whenever you ask for any thing, like condiments or even if you want the TV changed. Great people. The area is incredibly safe. Duly's is right next door. There's always a lot of activity when either two are open and everyone who comes in respects the establishment. They are neighborhood mainstays and get treated as such. If you're working late, come here and get your second wind for the all-nighter ahead. It's worked great for me.

Hi Just J.

Yelp
I had been going to this restaurant more than half of my life and I had never problems with this restaurant it is my favorite Coney Island I recommend this to the people that had never been here

Yelp
Great food and consistent service. Cozy, nice neighborhood establishment. Nothing against other diners in the area but Colombo's always hits the spot, whenever time of the day, open 24-hrs, the staff is right ontop with a refill or extra condiment. Looking forward going back

Yelp
I had an amazing experience tonight! The food was fantastic, it was presented wonderfully, came quickly and tasted amazing! I can't recommend Colombo's enough! Ten thumbs up!

Yelp
Overall Colombo's has really good food for a greasy spoon... aside of the bs move of not bothering to melt the cheese on your burger. Oh, a cold ass piece of processed American cheese on a burger. Yum! The fish on the fish and chips leaves something to be desired as well. The breakfasts here totally slay though. Duly's down the block prevented me from ever wandering into Colombo's until within the last year as Duly's has switched to this odd schedule of only being open all night every other weekend. I've only been in here once when Duly's was open and I could tell by the drop in business compared to a similar time on the previous weekend. Colombo's is very rough around the edges. There's spiderwebbed cracks in the glass on the outside door that don't look to be getting fixed anytime soon. Not all the lights above the booths work and the springs within the seats can be pretty wonky. And the staff... I usually get here before the big post bar rush and with one or two servers on I can tell it's basically impossible to provide decent service when the place fills up, which I do think it does, at least on Duly's off weekends. So the servers are used to people going up to the counter for stuff, and they'll lean on that even when it's slow. My last time in here I asked for a box which is basically a universal signal for the bill and the bussing of your plates to follow. Despite me being one of two tables in here this didn't happen. Hey, I guess my waitress had to conserve energy for the big rush. Way it goes around here. They'll give regulars the remote and let em find something streaming to watch on tv though. So the counter might be your best move. Now on to the cook who's usually there at night. What a piece of work he is. This is Southwest Detroit and he's of some sort of Latino ethnicity but he drops the n-bomb, you know the racial slur I'm talking about, incessantly. I used to be friends with a Mexican guy who grew up in the hood who talked like this. It was just the way he came up, with that word being a synonym for guy or dude, but one of these nights someone with more melanin in their skin than this cook is gonna come in here and not care about any of that. If this guy gets his ass kicked he has it coming cause I hear him use that word dozens and dozens of times. The last time I was in here I didn't see that cook. Halfway through my meal he walks in along with two customers. I can immediately tell he's completely hammered. I think he's in here on his off night to eat with his friends. Then he goes back in the kitchen. I think he's making himself at home, maybe grabbing a coffee or something. No - he goes to work drunk as a skunk, not even trying to be low key about it, talking about he drank too much earlier and overs and that's why he's late. My jaw was just hanging open, that's how obliterated he was. I'm glad the guy before him made my food. Somehow, though, he only dropped one n-bomb that night, but it was especially bad - a one word exclamation like he was saying Damn! or F*ck! and it was very loud. Duly's is much better than Colombo's and can also be entertaining- the employees might argue but they leave the drunkenness to the late night customers and don't use words that are verbal land mines given their ugly history. I wish they'd go back to 24 hours every weekend because I'm really over Colombo's at this point.

Yelp
The service was horrible the waitress told my girlfriend that the food she was getting was too much for her even though she didn't get that much and refused to give her the food she asked for and the place has cockroachs crawling on the booths this place should be shut down in my opinion.
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
Was in the area and stopped in for a coffee and chili and I must say it was really good!

Matthew S.

Yelp
Columbos is great and all, but the $4-5 up charge if you want feta on a gyro omelet had to be one of the most insane uncharged I've ever heard. Why is any other cheese the main option over feta on the gyro omelet. Why columbos? Why? Why do you think we're stupid? Change your menu

Yelp
Do not come here or bring kids. They smoke in the restaurant. Portions are tiny and it's not worth the price. Extremely disappointed to waste my money on an establishment that doesn't respect their customers enough to smoke outside.

Yelp
This place is truly tasty , worth the price and size meals , open 24hrs, and good service from the staff ,. I highly recommend this place for good fod and service.

Yelp
I can't even give this place a star to be honest, it's only because I don't have a choice. I was hungry, it was open, I went to use the restroom after I ordered and someone had defecated on the floor and I immediately left because it's 3am Monday morning... there's no reason the bathroom should be this filthy so who knows how long it's been like this. Absolutely not. I may or may not actually have feces on my shoes from this place but I will stop at no ends to broadcast this to anyone willing to go here. Go to Duly's up the road, they actually care about their place and have A+++++++ customer service. I left and told the two people on duty(no pun intended) that this was absolutely unacceptable under any circumstances and the girl working just kinda looked at me like this was just an average walk in the park. Don't eat here. Ever. EVER. Please.

Yelp
hole in the wall, and absolutely amazing. a friend and I stumbled in here one day, and ordered pancakes, coffee and a coney island. it feels like *The* diner in the 90s where regulars come in for an affordable meal, and talk shop. not only was the food cheap, but it was absolutely incredible! best version of basic diner food, no fussiness. as for the service, we went around 4pm, probably before or after any rush and so it was empty. the woman at the counter was so friendly, super attentive and down to earth. it is a true hole in a wall. while it definitely shows its age and its aesthetic may not be for everyone, the beauty is in the food, service and homey vibes. 10/10 will totally come back when I'm in detroit

Yelp
Loved the food. Only confusing thing was that all the stuff that was in supposed to be in the omelet was not in the omelet except for the feta cheese. I would totally recommend going and enjoying the good food and really good prices!

Yelp
horrible. bugs everywhere on walls. the cook using the word n***a while we eat. found a fly in my chilli ! dont eat here ! no stars !

Yelp
Violet Cola are the fucking best! Honestly, every time I come here drunk af, they take amazing care of me. If you come here you have to ask for Violet as your server and make sure Cola makes you're food. Best ever!

Yelp
For a late night proper Detroit coney fix Colombo's delivers the goods. I mean, you gotta dine in, but you know what I mean. Dog had that snap, the sauce is chunky and rich, loaded and messy, and it's a damn tasty perfect greasy spoon experience. Good breakfast, classic diner, great dogs. Thumbs up.

Yelp
It's Columbos. A coney. As classic as it gets. Cheap as it gets too. Tooo many memories at this place cuz its open 24/7. Too much opportunity. I always got the fried chicken pita, the fried chicken dinner or breakfast. Ah. Memories. Probably the only place where 12 bucks gets ya a good dinner for two.. CAsh Only.

Yelp
Food was okay, but there was a serious fruit fly problem. The floors were disgusting and so was the bathroom. Not a clean place.
google avatar

Carter L.

Yelp
This used to be my go-to coney - for everyone else outside of MI, diner. Decent food, diner service, okay prices, and in a 'hood I consider vital. However, after a dozen visits, I ran into a weird barrier I hadn't experienced up 'til then - they wouldn't refill my unsweetened ice tea. Although refills on coffee are free, and although I'd never had the problem before, I showed up on a day the head waitress or mom in the mom n' pop or whatever was on shift and informed me that tea refills were paid refills, like soda - or for those of you in MI, pop. I would have minded, no matter what. But consistent with my mild infuriation over the general lack of critical thinking in the world, since coffee refills were free, by logic, tea refills should be, also. Unless you're having special Twinings tea from a wooden box, or something. But a vat of brewed tea is exactly like coffee - except cheaper. And, let's face it, I'm the only person in Detroit drinking unsweetened tea, anyway, so they should cheer my consumer demand for what they are just going to pour down the drain in 4 hours. Never, in any place, have I encountered no refills on plain iced tea. Nowhere. Fuck them, then. If that 2 cent refill kills them, I'll never go again. My weekly $15 = a lot of tea, Colombo's.

Yelp
I love Colombo's.... granted I'm from Southwest but there's something to love about this place. This coney island is an after-hours drunken food haven and is often really busy after 2a. The chili cheese fries rock and you can never go wrong with a Colombo. YUM! They have Faygo on tap... really, not much more Detroit than that. If you're looking for a coney dog, however, walk two businesses down and hit up Duly's. Cash only.

Yelp
Colombo's a good greasy spoon, a comfy place and a great find. If you want "bang for your buck", you've got it here. The breakfast was plentiful, delicious, fresh and filling. Did I also mention cheap? My price tag was less than $7. Coffee refills are abundant; I don't think I ever saw the bottom of my cup. Something to keep in mind: cash only.
google avatar

Matt A.

Yelp
Colombo's, the overflow from Duly's. I can sum this review up in three words: NO. FREE. REFILLS. I kid you not. This is a 24 hour Coney and you do not get refills here. You finish that styrofoam cup of pop that they give you? Prepare to pay for two pops if you want that cup refilled. This is the only Coney that I have seen that charges for refills, and full price too might I add. Aside from that, the menus . . . they're falling apart and caked with what must be several years of hand dirt and grease. The menus are absolutely filthy. I am not a picky person when it comes to cleanliness, but I feel the need to wash my hands after looking at the menu. Owner, if you read this, replace those menus yesterday!!! Food is decent, prices are ok on some items. 5 bucks and some change BEFORE tax for 5 cheese sticks though?! And not the fat ones, but the skinny cheese sticks?! Robbery!!! I go to Colombo's when I have to.

Latrell H.

Yelp
Make sure you pay attention when you receive your bill. Do your own calculations and don't forget to include tax. They have a black and white menu that the waitresses specifically use when adding your total up by calculator. The prices on the menu they use are higher than the menu prices on the table. Often my bill was $3/$4 more than what it should have been. It's not about the money so much as it is the unfair business practices. For a while I thought the waitress was secretly trying to add on money for her tip. Which is almost just as bad. Hope you guys change your menu.

Noe P.

Yelp
Just ok. Good local food if you don't wasnt too leave the area. Scrambled egg omelet and bacon and a salad. I will admit they get your food fast.
