The deli sandwiches we bought were delicious. The person taking our order was very friendly, gave us time to think (it was our first time there), and they got the order perfectly right. The store was clean and inviting. A nice touch at the end was a generous supply of napkins and an Andes chocolate mint in the bag. What more could you ask for?
So why only three stars? Two reasons. (1) I felt like they broke the "deli contract" with the customer. You see a price of $12 for a Build-Your-Own sandwich and think that's what you'll pay. But no. If you want meat, it's $2.50 - $4.25 extra. Want cheese? Another $2. Pesto sauce? No problem, another $2. Pepperoncini? Add 50 cents. My $12 sandwich cost me $19! (It explains why the house specialty sandwiches were all in the $19-20 range.)
(2) Their system is to order at the front of the shop, and pick up at the back of the shop. There's easily 20 feet between the order and pickup stations. The parking is in the rear, so if you come in through the back, you can't order there, you have to walk to the front of the shop. The system probably works well when there’s a line of people wanting to be served, but we were the only ones in line at the time. It's a small thing, but it just adds "friction" to the whole experience.
