Everything to Know Before the Great American Beer Festival | Eater Denver

"I attended sessions at the Colorado Convention Center, where the festival kicks off and where more than 800 breweries will be sampled throughout the weekend; the hall is set up to let attendees map tasting routes around alphabetically arranged booths, and the calmer opening session suggests the crowds will grow more rambunctious as the weekend continues." - Eater Staff

Art and Culture in Denver

"You don’t actually need to go inside the Colorado Convention Center to enjoy what’s best about it — the attraction of note is outside the building, looking in. The Big Blue Bear, Denver’s most popular piece of street art, stands 40 feet tall and has been perched on 14th Avenue peering into the convention center’s main hall since 2005 — you’ll see him from blocks away. This iconic piece of public art is a great photo opportunity and free to access." - MATADOR_NETWORK

What can I say? It’s a great conference center. I came here for the Psychedelic Science 2025 conference, and the space handled a huge crowd without feeling too cramped or chaotic. The layout is easy to navigate, with plenty of room for talks, exhibits, and all the side conversations that make these events special. Parking isn’t perfect.. like most big venues - but it’s decent and gets the job done. Once you’re inside, everything is clean, organized, and set up to bring people together. Overall, it’s a solid place to host a large conference and create a sense of community. Five stars from me.

Every experience is different depending on the event. I've been here a couple times for the Denver Fan Expo and had a great time each time. Crowded but tolerable. The staff were helpful with information on where to go and help find things. They kept the bathrooms decently clean. Overall chill experience!

Google
I attended a conference at the center. The building is impressive in size and design. However, it lacks simple amenities to make it a welcoming space. There was not enough seating in the common areas outside of the conference rooms. Food options within the area were also inadequate. The concessions available ran out of food on a daily basis. Initially, there were not enough staff to provide information. However, that improved in the latter days of the conference. For such an impressive venue, more efforts could be made to make the space more welcoming.

Google
Big, open, airy, plenty of restrooms and kept clean. Parking garages are nearby or there’s metered street parking. Pretty neat place to spend an afternoon depending on what festival or event they’re having! Like the outside art work and sitting spaces.

Google
This place is huge! The escalators are in strange places and it’s easy to get lost in all the through hallways. The staff was all nice that I interacted with. The rooftop terrace was an amazing feature!

Google
Went to Fan Expo. Had a blast. Even found good parking even though it was so busy. The only complaint was cell service but that wasn't their fault. There were too many people too close together.

Google
Good place to use the restroom. The rude man at the front said no restrooms, but it's a public building, so just say you are there for the event if they ask, since most events are open to the public. Enter near the big bear and the bathrooms are straight ahead down the steps and down the hall. Restrooms are cleaned and well maintained. Nice building with fun events. Eventually the city will learn that you shouldn't have an unwelcoming party to confront you when you visit a public building. It really paints Denver in a negative light. But for now I think it's best to ignore that flaw and enjoy this beautiful city.

Google
The spacious and huge exhibition center has a famous peeping blue bear outside the door and is conveniently located in the city center.

Yelp
Typical modern convention center that is well lighted, "airy", "open" and huge :-) Several entrances, good escalators and stair layouts. Elevators available as well. For those sponsoring "Expos" here the city/convention center has staff for electrical and A/V instead of companies like Freeman etc. Lots of hotels nearby make it easy in walking distance. I didn't feel unsafe at night walking to hotel and nearby restaurants and bars.
google avatar

M C.

Yelp
It is a very big place! But great that it's surrounded by nice hotels and restaurants within a walking distance. The bathrooms are clean and well-maintained. Wish we had more choices to eat inside the building. Security is very visible and I felt safe. I fell in the front of the building because there was a step-down that I didn't noticed and it was at night. The walkway was more even closer to the street side. The security personnel who came to me made sure I was alright.

Yelp
Dang, this place is BIG! I was there for the AWWA ACE convention, which was fantastic. The Colorado Convention Center was a good venue and more than big enough to accommodate the several thousand attendees. Despite it's big size, the convention center was easy to navigate to to the excellent signage. It is surrounded by hotels, so easy to get to for most attendees.
google avatar

Yelp
Like the bear on the outside of the CCC, the convention floor is big. Bigger than I thought. We were attending NSC and we walked a lot. It was great to see our clients and hopefully create a connection with some new ones. The team that makes everything happen from keeping it running, clean, and stocked with $8 sparkling water, ouch, made walking the floor and conducting business a breeze. We were super fortunate to have our home base at the AC just a walk up the street.
google avatar

Whitney W.

Yelp
Massive conference center and signage was not ideal. Entrances were incorrectly marked for our event. Received a parking ticket despite paying ($14/8h) for parking. The only way to dispute a parking ticket: go to the courthouse during business hours, and... pay again for parking. Would recommend other venues for my organization in the future.
google avatar

Yelp
I was here for a big convention in early August and the venue was more than large enough to accommodate the thousands in our group. The blue bear outside is a lovely touch. The expo hall is large and accommodated many rows of vendors and poster sessions. The rooms were standard conference center but impressively, the AV/tech situation seemed to run more smoothly than typical. I loved that they let people walk through some quieter areas; the concourses are large and long enough that you can actually get a decent walk in with having to brave the Denver summer heat. As with many convention centers, they also had some nice artwork on the walls including an exhibit on what Colorado likely looked like in ancient times. Location of the Convention center is convenient to lots of hotels and restaurants.

Yelp
The convention center is huge ! The Denver fan expo was super packed but it was also easy to navigate with a wheelchair. You have to pack your patience. Go slow and watch your surroundings and say please and thank you. The food options were a bit on the sad side. A large fountain soda costs about $5. There were seating areas and no issues with the restrooms. Parking was horrible and you have to be there right at the start of your event or even before that. You can go on the convention center website and it then sends you to where you can pay for "premium parking spots" the employees inside were quite helpful. The parking attendant outside in the large lot for the Bellco side...., she was the most rudest person I have ever dealt with anywhere in Colorado in the last 6 years! I simply said "hello there , I have quick question" She immediately replied "whatever your question is, I don't know what to tell you and I can't help you" I started laughing at myself inside for thinking "this is the job you got to pay your rent? Good luck in life you're gonna need it ya poor slug " Several events can go on at once here , the cell signal can be spotty sometimes. It's a middle Of the road convention center.

Yelp
Not gonna lie, the fact that they had more "exit" doors than "entry" doors really pmo. because this place is massive and if you got it wrong, you're screwed. Either way came here for a volleyball tournament. The place was huge. The bathrooms were few AB's insanely far for no reason. It served its purpose.
google avatar

Yelp
In the heart of downtown Denver I attended the Colorado Crossroads Girl's Junior National Volleyball Tournament (1/30/25-2/2/25) at the Colorado Convention Center. This event hosted the best teams from 30 states. The courts provided spectator chairs & were clearly marked but very little or no walkways between courts. Surprisingly, there were hardly any food options. We found pizza & coffee, most vendors were closed. The convention center (CC) is a beautiful building. There are plenty of parking garages & restaurants nearby. My favorite part was the Big Blue Bear. This 40 foot tall blue bear leans against the glass looking into the CC. The bear is made of lapis lazuli...a rare stone found in Colorado & the blue represents Colorado's sky. Plan on doing a lot of walking cuz this place is huge. The CC hosts hundreds of events a year, such as trade shows, graduation ceremonies, theater, (Bellco Theater) & it even has a couple of ballrooms!

Yelp
UPDATE 10/13/24: My return to the Colorado Convention Center in one of my favorite cities to visit - Denver. We participated in Denver's annual Great American Beer Festival (GABF) on 10/10/24. I've been to the convention center a few times before for work purposes with my old job and it's one of my favorite convention centers out there. Now, I finally fulfilled my longtime dream of participating in the GABF, even if it was just for one day. There were two floors of endless beer choices, but the first floor was just the beginning, which was a food/drink pairing for separate ticket holders, which included us. Many booths had small dinner-like bites that came with our beer samplers, such as ribs and meatballs. The real party began on the second floor, though. There were hundreds more beer booths, a live band, and some merchandise to buy. One of the first beer samplers I had on the second floor was called the Bacon Cinnamon Roll Cream Ale from 903 Brewery, which was actually pretty decent. I lost track of how many beer samplers I had, but I enjoyed most of them. I also bought some soaps made from beer to take home with me. I had a great time at the GABF and I would like to experience it again.

Yelp
Finishing up a 5 day national conference here. We used pretty much the entire facility, including the Bellico Theatre. There is a variety of meeting spaces. There is a gift shop, various coffee shops and cafes, depending on what is contracted to be open during your event. Our academy provided lunch daily so many of the eateries inside were not open. Adjacent parking. Walkable to the downtown hotels. Expo hall is HUGE. Plenty of clean restrooms. Escalators and elevators. Light rail stop in front.
google avatar

Teresa M.

Yelp
Large, modern, clean & well-organized. It was easy yo navigate between areas. The restrooms were in good order & escalators kept everything moving. There's plenty of parking nearby - all w/in 5min of the door - & prices varied greatly.
google avatar

Corinne H.

Yelp
Gorgeous space! Came for a graduation and was amazed that this was only 1 event going on at the same time.
google avatar

Kyra H.

Yelp
Great location as there are plenty of restaurants and hotels surrounding the convention center. I also appreciate the crossing guards directing traffic to and from the convention center. As for the convention center it is alot of walking and the signage doesn't really provide alot of direction when it comes to the quiet rooms, designated work spaces and places to get water and refreshments. I am also used to all convention centers for conferences having table stations set up for snacks and water, juice, coffee, etc but this particular one everything was for purchase.

Yelp
Sneakercon today -smaller than before but excited to see what new vendors are around. Got to see a few an old faces which is always nice. Was able to finally swap out my lost and founds for some bred 4's
google avatar

Yelp
Modern, practical well laid out. Interesting art and sculptures throughout. Great 3rd floor outdoor terrace with a view of the mountains.
google avatar

Yelp
The Colorado Convention Center is great! It feels new and clean with a ton of trade show floor space while also having endless options for breakout meeting rooms. The bathrooms are nice and clean too!
google avatar

Tanisha H.

Yelp
Prepare your walking shoes and make sure you've got a water bottle. The space is massive. Plenty of spaces for so many events to occur at any time. It's not one of my favorite spaces simply because it's so large but I can appreciate it.

Yelp
Architecturally this building is a crown jewel of the city. It's high archways and sprawling glass walls. The natural sunlight just dances through this stunning modern style building. Nothing looks dated or disrepaired. For me, it's worth going to a convention just to see the building. The convention center has all the amenities and it's a huge complex complete with food kiosks, ample restrooms, stylish seating, dozens of ballrooms and meeting spaces, Bellco Theatre. They even have a designated light rail station. I came here for a small art show that turned out to be a dud. But I ended up dropping in to a neighboring gem show. The gem show was very legit. The collection of gems was just incredible. You couldn't find a collection so diverse and beautifully displayed, even in a museum. I did find the convention center staff to be kind of overbearing and unwelcoming. It was night and day interacting with event organizers verses the convention center staff. They just started grilling me the second I walked in the door. I think a lot of time people working the doors forget that their job it is as much about customer service as it is security.
google avatar

Scarlett H.

Yelp
How do you rate a convention center? It's not like most of us would have a choice to pick locations for conferences, right? If you are reading this, you might be attending a conference or trade show here. Well, the one tip I can offer is: STUDY the floor plan and access ways first before you just try to walk around and find the room or exhibit hall you want to go. You see, this building can be very confusing - rooms on the same floor must be accessed from different stairs or escalators. And the labeling system is super tricky : there's room 1A, 1B, 1C, but there's also room 1AB, and 1ABC! But if you can get over that initial frustration, this is a beautiful and modern building with nice facilities and great meeting rooms. Great location too, easy access and many hotels within walking distance. Certainly one of the best conference locations I've been to!
google avatar

Esmeralda C.

Yelp
It is a great place for various activities and events. The weekend i was in Denver there was a Tattoo convention/festival happening.
google avatar

Debra K.

Yelp
Recently attended a 4800+ convention here. This is an expansive place so be prepared to walk to different floors for different breakouts and venues. I was totally impressed with the art installations (besides the big blue bear). The three is for the bathroom situations. In almost every one, there was only one automatic soap dispenser that was working. There were a lot of out of order signs up. The "Food Court" is basically vending machines. And, there is exactly one coffee vendor that has weird hours and is PRICEY. There are a lot of hotel options nearby and there was a lot of security. Staff was helpful but I just can't get by the soap situation. :(
google avatar

Aesha E.

Yelp
WOW, this place is huge. I was here for a conference a few years ago and did get turned around at least once, but it almost certainly has lots of space for your group. My favorite thing about this convention center is the sense of whimsy they injected with "I See What You Mean"--the formal name for the bear sculpture that's peeking into the lobby. And we found it a really helpful meeting place; you cannot miss the big blue bear! Other art installations here are the laughing escalator, where you'll hear giggles coming through the escalator as you're on it. There were also collections of license plates displayed throughout the convention center, and other art throughout the conference center. Conference venues are usually pretty buttoned up and boring, but there are some fun surprises to be had here at the CCC.
google avatar

Bee W.

Yelp
Was fun wandering about the events at my conference. The many rooms were great to attend different panels at. It got a little warm in the rooms. With the rain it was nice being inside. Not convenient to park in the parking garage as we had to enter from the outside door. We finally figured out how to enter parking level P1 from the main level of the convention center. Would be nice if we could go the other way too. Entry to parking garage was not easy to figure out with the construction. A few co-workers didn't realize they could park in the garage. The parking kiosks were convenient. And the phone charging options useful. The coffee bar wasn't open and that was not convenient as we had to walk out for coffee. Luckily the event organizers provided coffee the next day when the convention officially opened. The light rail was a good option but with the weekend schedule I decided not to chance it. The long period in between trains made me nervous being the night time. Good location for a conference but some of the attendees weren't happy with waking to their hotels in the darker evenings.

Yelp
This is my 2nd visit to this major venue in Denver. Its very spacious, has several exhibit halls, and ome could easily get lost without proper signage or a map of rooms, along with the floor. Security is presently high with law enforcement showing their presence and I'm sure the increased participants here at this venue as well as the visiting fans who are here to witness Game 1 tonight for the NBA championship title. It could get a bit rowdy over the next several days here.
google avatar

Boon C.

Yelp
It is a nice facility in Denver. One of the convention center that can have multiple class room, theater hall, at grade exhibition hall and more. It is close to many walking hotel with shopping center. Idea place to hold big meeting. I was here for NASCC Steel Conference. I happen to have a chance to visit this place. The conference is at late March which save the headache of travel on snow. The convention center do have coffee shop if you need something. They also have a gift shop too. The at grade exhibit hall allow heavy equipment to move the heavy item for display. This center is about 4 level. Restroom is available through out the convention area. Restroom cover all corner of the convention ground. The temperature is a bid cold for a Floridian like me. But it is comfortable.
google avatar

Mari H.

Yelp
So we went to the Convention Center solely to see the giant blue bear that stands outside peering into the windows. I saw this on a yelp page that had things to do around Denver but it didn't list where a lot of the locations where in the pictures so it took a little searching but it wasn't hard to find where the bear was located. It is a cute and fun photo op to stop by and check out and since it is downtown there are a ton of other places close by that makes the stop worth while.
google avatar

Joani O.

Yelp
I am in Denver for my company's annual meeting which is the largest legal conference in the U.S. This convention center is huge, in a great location in downtown Denver. Many of the hotels are in walking distance and there are several restaurants in the area too. They have ample meeting rooms and various areas that we were able to put to good use. Security was excellent, as were the cleaning crew and even the electricians when we had power issues. This was a great choice for this conference.
google avatar

Anders Christofer C.

Yelp
This is an alright venue and I went there for a Jurassic event. It is located conveniently downtown Denver. The only negative thing is the parking is a bit problematic.
google avatar

AG R.

Yelp
Fantastic and very modern convention center! Amenities and facilities are bar-none! My Denver experience too was quite different this time vs. six months ago. I didn't see any homeless populations and felt safe around the 16th street mall this Colorado Convention Center. But this is my experience and my opinion YOMV (your opinion may vary). I went there for the Denver Auto Show and to see the Down to Earth movement's show cars (happening 04/04 through 04/07, 2024). Lots of fantastic cars on display! I highly recommend this convention center!
google avatar

Cynthia C.

Yelp
I celebrated the new year here during Decadence NYE and was very impressed with how easy it was to navigate granted there was only one event and it was in one main room/area. The restroom lines were long but check-in was super smooth and quicker than any sporting event line. Once we made it through security, it was a straight shot to the rave. Inside, there were numerous photo walls, merch stands, food trucks, bar areas, and surprisingly SO MUCH SPACE to accommodate 3 different stages. I completely forgot that this was at a convention center and was completely enthralled in the experience.
google avatar

Isaac A.

Yelp
Parking was available nearby. Once we walked up, we were greeted by the large bear statue and began looking for our event. There were several events taking place and it took a while to find a directory. I wish there were a few placards up to help. The whole building has a similar look and feel to Cobo in Detroit. Overall it was okay.
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
So glad to be able to come back for events! This was a lot of fun. They had batting cages, pitching cages, sections for little kids, memorabilia, mlb shop, and lots of fun things. The convention center is a great place.
google avatar

Karyna R.

Yelp
Pretty cool place to visit. Take a picture with the bear if you can! So much to do around the area and felt mostly safe!
google avatar

Paul N.

Yelp
Have been here for two conferences and honestly it's big and easy to get to. But they have some weird policies that just make little sense. I wasn't allowed to bring the hotel cart trolly in because it violated some sort of union per the customer "service" lady there. They had three escalators down when I was there which isn't really their fault but when you have a conference there you really should have all those buttons buttoned up before having thousands of people here. I mean it's a large open room where they allow vendors to set up. About all I can honestly say about it. Hope this helps. Oh the blue bear is pretty cool I'll give them that.
google avatar

Sue S.

Yelp
Beautiful interior and it has great pieces of art. Central location. Cons: had very little food and drink vendors inside and the wait was very long and slow.
google avatar

Tulsa H.

Yelp
Nice place. Was hard in 2005 as a visitor. Now just a passerby. Some play ball park event. None the less the place still looks the same as it did 2 decades ago-- in a nice clean way.
google avatar

Sara W.

Yelp
We were here for the Oddities event so we only experienced that portion. The center is very large with lots of bathrooms ...LOL...that is important when there are a ton of people. It was easy to navigate inside as well.
google avatar

Todd R.

Yelp
My company had a booth at the URTeC Oil n Gas trade show. The Center itself is very nice with helpful staff. Nice coffee shop and small gift shop. The larger coffee and sandwich shop near our hall was closed for some reason and it would have been very helpful if it would have been open. We used Uber to get around so not sure about parking. I have complaints about our trade show, but nothing to do with the Center. Get a pic with the Big Blue Bear.
google avatar

Mary W.

Yelp
Great venue for large events. It is kept clean and well organized. We are here for a national conference and staff has been amazing with helping navigate in this huge space. One suggestion, during vendor presentations in the exhibit hall (second floor) to provide more garbage cans.
google avatar

Anton K.

Yelp
At 2,2 million square feet, the Colorado Convention Center is a mult-functional venue which is located on 14th street in the heart of the city. It has 584,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space with 6 event halls which can be combined, 63 meeting rooms, 35,000 sq. ft Seasons Ballroom with adjacent 6,000 sq. ft. of kitchen, 5,000 sq. ft. Belico Theater with state of the art sound, lighting, stage, and audio-visual production, and Mile High Ballroom. The parking facility can accommodate 1,000 vehicles which creates a problem at times. Fortunately there is a light rail which runs to the convention center to various locations including the sports arenas. There are 11,000 hotel rooms available within walking distance. Before the COVID-19 pandemic they held events like the Great American Beer Fest, Jurassic Quest and the Colorado Home and Garden show. Local galas, volleyball tournaments, and large city wide conventions are also held here. I visited to take a photo of the Big Blue Bear and hopefully be able to take advantage of their information center. The information center can supply you with the latest events taking place in the city, accommodations, restaurants and bars, transportation and entertainment. Colorado has set a 100 person limit on indoor occupancy which has curtailed their usual large events. Outdoor limits are held at a maximum of 175 people. Social distancing must be complied with. Face masks are required for those 11 years and up until at least August 15, 2020.

Yelp
It's All About the Bear!! The Colorado Convention Center is simply amazing! It's a dynamic space for events throughout the year, from dental conventions to Comic Con. Hey, I go to Comic Con every year. It's a blast! Don't forget to check out the Blue Bear, not that you can miss it! Created by Lawrence Argent in 2005, the 40-foot icon is seen peeking inside the building. Bring your camera!!
google avatar

Enrique H.

Yelp
Easy to find, good parking, and the amount of space for walking and enjoying the Convention Center is great! Definitely recommend for events being held there.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
We've been here twice for the Great American Beer Fest (GABF) and it's a great venue overall. The rooms are gigantic and are very comfortable for the festival (60k+ people come here for 4 sessions, which is insane). The bathrooms are clean and the staff have been very helpful each time we've been here. The venue is located downtown and easy walking distance from many hotels and restaurants. We'll definitely be back for GABF when things open back up from COVID-19 and we're really glad that GABF is always at the Colorado Convention Center!

Rich R.

Yelp
Attended a cheer event and was there all day. Naturally when you are there for 10 hours your under 10 kids need some exercise. We talked around the complex, which is huge, and their hall monitors yelled at us saying the public facility was off limits. If you have never been there they have exhibits all over the place. Educational materials lining the walls and art. The angry men stated that we were only allowed in our area of the building. Cool if that's the policy but he selectively yelled at the cheer families and no one else. Btw there were no other events on that side of the complex. Leave it to Denver to make walking l and education a contentious issue.
google avatar

Sunny G.

Yelp
I had free tickets to Jurassic Quest. Parking wasn't too bad, self parking $7.00. I came with a group of 6 adults. The convention center is huge, lots of restrooms. A pretty cool facility. Once we walked it there were a few dinosaurs that were awesome but the rest of the event was kids only. We tried to buy a wristband and they refused cause we aren't children. The food was awful. 5 stars for convention center but 2.5 for the event.
google avatar

Alice Q.

Yelp
We came here to see the spectacular II DIVO!! Funny, my friend and I were discussing among classical music and she mentioned about this vocal group that had the voice of literal angels!! We were listening to the majority of their songs on Spotify, and God was on our side, because we found out II DIVO was in town the following day at the Colorado Convention Center!! I thought it was a surprise and only for $60.00 each. When we arrived, it was fairly easy to get parking, the venue was glowing and even had an intermission during this show!!
google avatar

Damon D.

Yelp
Great place for a trade show. I was there for the Outdoor Retail Show and was delighted to see that the space was big enough to have every conceivable manufacturer of outdoor related products on display front and center.
google avatar

Jody W.

Yelp
Impressive space. Vast. Clean. Easy to navigate. I accompanied someone while she checked in for a conference and got a "lay of the land". Several hotels and restaurants nearby; there are places to grab snacks inside the convention center as well. I spied several charging stations - areas that had plenty of seating with places to plug in various devices. The giant bear at the entrance is cool.
