I'm not certain why the reviews are so high, but based on that, we tried this place out for dinner and it was a complete fail.
First impression was that the waitstaff looked/smelled like they just came from chain-smoking. The menu was impressive, a lot of variety, so it took us a few minutes to order. We started with a saganaki- it's my favorite, but not here. Our waitress said "I think I put too much brandy on, but I love the big flame!" Ok, first of all, I use to make saganaki all the time when I waited tables, and you only put so much brandy (2 tbs at most) for a reason. Never should it look like saganaki soup, which is what we received, the cheese had no time to cook on the skillet. It was edible, but far from the standard.
We each ordered a soup, mine, the French onion, was the worst thing ever; One bite and I was done! My bf ordered the lemon rice soup and it was pretty bad, too. Very thick, more like a pudding. It became clear that the kitchen and/or waitstaff knew nothing about food prep or the common motto- if you wouldn't eat it, don't serve it.
We ordered the small Greek salad- which was huge- and a patty melt. Two things that we figured would be safe, and they were! The small salad is more like a large, and the patty melt, well, it was standard. Long story short, we will not be returning to Col's.
