Where to Find Candy and Chocolate in Nashville | Eater Nashville

"Colts Chocolates, the chocolate shop owned by former “Hee Haw honey” Mackenzie Colt, has been around since the mid-’80s. They relocated from the Gulch over to Gallatin Pike, but Colts continues to create an assortment of chocolates and desserts, including crowd-favorite “Colts Bolts,” made with chocolate, peanut butter, and whole-roasted almonds." - Kristy Lucero

My wife and I did a tour, which was during the working hours. The tour was really done well, waking us through how each station worked. It’s amazing to realize that probably a dozen people were involved in making that one piece of chocolate you are eating. It smells amazing & tastes like Colts chocolate. I recommend doing the tour during their normal operations.

Google
Very delicious chocolate shop with lots of yummy desserts, not just chocolate! I enjoyed my chess pie and it was really hard choosing just one thing. Well okay, obviously I chose more than one thing because like I said, I couldn't decide between all the deliciousness in there. Staff was very friendly too and a little too quick (because I needed to change my mind and not get so many items but they had already bagged it up "so I was stuck"). Anyway, stop in and you won't be disappointed!

Google
These pies are the real deal. I tried both their chess pie and their white chocolate chunk Southern pecan pie, and they were DELICIOUS. I hate pecan pie. Like the pecans specifically are what I don’t like about pecan pie. However their white chocolate pecan pie was to die for. I licked my plate clean, literally, and went for another slice! Their chess pie is also phenomenal. So soft yet thick and decadent enough that you know you are getting the real deal. I highly recommend this place to anyone who loves great pies.

Google
A Nashville treasure! I LOVE the milk chocolate bumble bees and my wife loves the bolts. Both are great when you need a chocolate fix. Their gift baskets are really nice and make great...gifts. We give them to friends and family and everyone loves them.

Google
Wow! Super chocolates and the store clerk kept bringing out the samples. We walked out with over $100 worth of chocolates! Delicious. It was really cool “HeHaw” was playing on their TV with Mackenzie Colt, founder of Colts Chocolates, in the episodes. The chocolates make great Christmas gifts.

Google
Bolts chocolates are simply superb!!! This is a small family owned shop that takes great pride as well as the time and care to craft amazing ultra fresh chocolates. My personal favorites are the milk chocolate Bolt Bites and the Bumble Bees! I've ordered twice in the past two months, so it's definitely worth it. I've been told that I'm a direct descendant of Willie Wonka, so just trust me on this you will not be disappointed; I guarantee it!!! Truth be told, they may sometimes be a bit slow on delivery but, trust me again, it's well worth the wait!!!! And, even more so, they take the time to fulfill the order correctly!! If you're a fan of the widely known chocolate covered peanut butter cups, trust me again, once you try the Bolt Bites, you will Never again be able to go back to the national brand chocolate covered peanut butter cup!!!! Same goes for the Bumble Bees, once you've tried them as well you won't be able to eat anyone else's chocolate covered pecan caramel turtles. I'm a confirmed chocoholic and regularly order chocolate from all over Europe and the UK, and Colts stacks up with the best of them for both freshness and taste. I'm now a customer for life!!!

Google
Tried the Colts Jolts recently, quite simply one of the best chocolate treats I’ve ever had.

Google
I wanted the whiskey brownie… but not available in small quantities. I had shipped the Colts Bolts dark chocolate, REALLY YUMMY !

Yelp
Cute shop with amazing smells. Went with the MARIE MCGHEE'S BUMBLE BEES!! These were amazing with dark chocolate, pecans, and caramel. Not too sweet but the caramel and nuts were so fresh. The worker was nice and I'll definitely be back. The perfect stop for Valentine's Day goodies. Who doesn't like chocolate?
google avatar

Yelp
I have had Colts chocolate before and knew I would be close by when in Nashville. It was a little sketchy when my Uber was turning down a backroad as I was picturing a busy bustling chocolate factory/warehouse. It's not. It was quiet and plenty of room for shopping. The Colts bolts and Bumble Bees are my favorite. Full of chocolate, peanut butter, nuts, caramel. You cannot go wrong. I spent over $100 in chocolate but well worth it as you don't need to pay shipping when in store. Will definitely be putting in an order once we run out of our stash!

Phil K.

Yelp
Inventory was a little low, but understood considering it was Valentine's Day. I was still able to buy some of each of the favorites that Colts is known for around Nashville. And the woman who was very friendly and helpful, and think she may have been the owner. Recommend Colts to all!

Yelp
Colts Chocolates are sold at many stores around the Nashville area and while I wanted to stop at the store, it was just a bit out of the way from where I was. I did find some of their products at Whole Foods and oddly enough in my hotel shop. I got an assortment of items including the most well known, the bolts in milk chocolate. The Bolts kind of remind me of peanut butter pie but without the pie crust. The filling inside is kind of a whipped peanut butter. I had really wanted to try the gooey butter cakes but I guess I will have to order them online. I really enjoyed the chocolates and they definitely tasted like they were made with care. I would definitely buy them again.

Yelp
We were in Nashville at Adele's restaurant over the Thanksgiving holiday and had experienced the delicious sweets. We live in Florida and decided to order a few packages as Christmas gifts. The package somehow had been lost. Long story short after corresponding with Kyle, they had replaced the missing package. We received the sweets. We and our family will enjoy them. Great customer service. Thành

Yelp
I am not a huge fan of chocolate, but my wife is so I frequent here for little surprises for her. Chocolate lover or not just stop in and take a deep breath in because it smells to what I assume what Wonka's smells like. Just chocolate goodness. Staff are super nice and are very helpful. My wife says the chocolate is amazing and she's not no fool! Check 'em out!

Yelp
Yelp keeps bugging me to write a review of Colts Chocolates, so I suppose I will. Keep in mind I was a visitor here as part of a work trip, so I probably didn't have your typical customer experience. Mackenzie Colt (of former Hee Haw fame, apparently! I had never heard of the show but now I have) gave us a tour of the back where they produce the confections, and then sent us all home with goody bags, which were delicious. We got to try a few samples while in-store too, and all of those were also tasty. She gets 5 stars because prices seemed reasonable, both the shop and the bathroom were clean/well kept-up, and it's a cute little store that deserves a stop-by if you ever find yourself in Nashville.

Yelp
Some day, I will find myself in Nashville, TN. When that day comes, a stop at Colt Chocolates will be a priority. Recently, an awesome friend of ours went to Tennessee. One of the things he brought back was a bag of Marie McGhee's Bumble Bees. The Chocolate Pecans and Caramel flavor. According to the information on the bag, it is a product of Colts Chocolates. It tasted really good!! Can only imagine how their other creations must taste like. Look forward to finding out in the future.

Yelp
The chocolate bolts are amazing. Highly recommend this local chocolatier. Quality chocolate fudge, and other items in their store in Nashville Tennessee.

Yelp
Omg! Amazing!!! My husband and I were waiting for the brewery next door to open and saw this place and decided to go in to browse just to kill time... we ended up LOVING EVERYTHING! And buying a lot of chocolate to take home! The shop is so cute and we were welcomed by the very nice man behind the counter. He told us about the history of the place and all the different samples scattered around the store! He was so great! If he didn't engage with us we would have probably left empty handed, but he totally sold us and the chocolate really was freakin delicious!!! While we were there multiple people came in to pick up orders they had placed and left with BOXES of chocolates and/or pies, it was really crazy to me to see how busy they were. A man even came in and told us he was just here yesterday and had to come back to get more chocolate covered animal crackers!!! He said they were like crack! Lol!!! I opted for the peanut butter cups and the chocolates that represented turtles.... so good! Very happy we stumbled on this place! Must stop here!

Yelp
This place is amazing! Your kids will love it; your grandma will love it; most importantly, YOU will love it. Do you remember Hee Haw? Then you remember Mackenzie Colt, one of the Hee Haw Honeys. (see pic from back in the day) Well apparently she could cook as well and sing and dance. After Hee Haw, she baked pies for Honey Baked Ham (they needed a dessert, don't you know), and then she started this chocolate company, which also sells those pies. I did not try any of the pies, though I now regret that oversight. Maybe I'll go back tomorrow. But there are great chocolate confections. And they provide plenty of free samples to try. My favorite was the chocolate covered marshmallows. They'll sell you a single one if you're trying not to eat a whole bag of them, and they're individually wrapped so they stay fresh as long as possible. And that's one thing I really like: the chocolate has an expiration date. She's not going to sell you chocolate that's not perfect. I really appreciate that. (See pic of her now) This should be on the tours of Nashville. It's a country music song-worthy story from a woman who sang at the Grand Old Opry. Perfect Nashville.

Yelp
Fantastic chocolate shop in Gulch that I fell in love with. There are plenty of samples around the store. If you like them on Facebook, you get a free piece of chocolate. The chocolate peanut butter bars, the Colt's Bolts, are delicious, and you can get them in either milk or dark. Their gooey salted caramel bars steal the show. I've never ever had anything like it. To top it off, they do charity work for an elephant sanctuary if you purchase their animal crackers. Go support them!
google avatar

Hattie J.

Yelp
Came here on a whim as I happened to be parked across the street from it and saw it. They have a few samples of some of their goodies...so I of course helped myself to them all! I bought a few individual chocolate's to stick in my bf's easter basket. While I don't remember which ones they were, I just know they were all pretty darn good! Ugh, the salted gooey caramel butter bar? SOOO good! The mint chocolate marshmallow? Delicious. Jalapeno Almond Ice cream topping? Yum! I recommend swinging by this place when you find yourself with a sweet tooth!

Yelp
Dark. Milk. Heat. Sweet. Salt. Hit every note with these extraordinarily well crafted chocolates. We were looking for pralines and wound up in this small and quaint shop, in an up and coming neighborhood. The former HeeHaw Star was in the house and she was a snooty little piece of nothing nice, but she can rock chocolate. Her store attendant, however was every divine thing as the chocolates and confections they sell. Samples - BEWARE. One taste... and you will think you are sampling Jacques Torres... SERIOUSLY divine chocolates. But their "cookie meets caramel bar meets pie-ish" caramel thingy is OMG! Dainty and elegant packaging, I will ship order for my family and friends and as business gifts from now on. Unlike yuck sugar chocolates from beachy towns, I would give up a Godiva for these MADE IN THE USA, hand crafted pieces of goodness. Yes folks. IT IS THAT GOOD!
google avatar

Ramon V.

Yelp
We also found this place while visiting the Yazoo brewery. The store itself is nice and smells delicious. The lady who was working the counter was friendly and was telling us about the different products and how they make them all right there etc. Our favorite were the bumble bees, we bought a couple bags of those to take home. The only thing I found odd was the TV playing some old show, we then found out the owner was an actress or something and I guess that was a show she was on. Anyways kinda weird, dunno what that has to do with chocolate.
google avatar

Bianca B.

Yelp
This chocolate shop is so Much fun and delicious. The salted caramel bar omg! Yummy and really cute shop and decor. They even have couches so you can sit and enjoy your colts chocolate
google avatar

Jeniffer D.

Yelp
Lots of free samples!!! Chocolate covered marshmallows are a fun treat that didn't skimp on the chocolate. The caramel butter bites are melt in your mouth delicious. It's a cute spot with tons of character. The owner used to be on Hee Haw, so there's tons of memorabilia decorating the store (a little cheesy but adds to the experience nonetheless). A fun stop for some sweets with the kids :)
google avatar

Laurie V.

Yelp
We saw it driving by, and on a whim stopped in, and I am so glad we did. The salted gooey caramel butter bar was the shining star. There were samples of everything throughout the store, and I knew from the sample, I would be falling in love with this. I wasn't wrong. My only regret is only getting one.
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
Sometimes when you get lost, you find the most amazing places. My mom and I were trying to get back to our car while walking around the Gulch neighborhood. Somehow we ended up behind the parking garage and ended up in what seemed to be the middle of construction land and the middle of no where. Then we saw this little red awning that had the word chocolate on it. Well we have to go in. They had little tasters out everywhere. Everything we tried was really good. Both my mother and I left with a bag full of chocolate to bring home.

Yelp
Stumbled upon Colts Chocolate while walking back from Yazoo Brewery and I'm so glad we decided to walk in. This is a small but mighty shop serving up all sorts of delicious chocolate creations. Throughout the store they had a variety of samples. Everything was so good and we felt compelled to buy a number of different things. My favorite was some sort of an ooey butter cake bar. I forget the exact name but it was crazy good. Prices are reasonable for a small homemade shop and the staff is very friendly. These chocolates make great gifts!
google avatar

Maddie C.

Yelp
Wow. Colts Chocolate is just amazing. The chocolate is rich, and flavorful, the people behind the front desk were kind, helpful, and recommended their favorite chocolates, as that was our first time. The service was wonderful, and everybody maintained 6 feet and wore masks. 10/10, would recommend to all of my friends.
google avatar

Christian B.

Yelp
We happen to stumble upon this place because we parked across the street on our way to another restaurant. So of course on our way back we needed something sweet. This is a cute little confection shop with a ton of home made treats. The owner Mackenzie Colt was once a actress on the show Hee Haw. You can sample pretty much everything they sell. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They have everything from butter chess pie to chocolate dipped vanilla animal crackers. We tried the new salted caramel gooey butter bite. Absolutely to die for!
google avatar

Yelp
I saw the company on Unwrapped 2.0. Everything look so great I went to the website immediately and placed an order. The order is coming and my 'sweet tooth' can hardly wait. I am a transplanted Southerner so I am excited.

Yelp
I've never been to their store but have bought their Colts Bolts several times online and had them shipped to my house. I first learned about Colts Bolts on a Foodnetwork special years ago. Colts Bolts basically make a Reeses Peanut Butter cup look pale in comparison. Colts Chocolates makes the Bolts in muffin tins (filled about half way). They are luscious chocolate and peanut butter with whole almonds inside. And they now also make this treat with dark chocolate for those, like me, who prefer that over the sweeter milk chocolate. You can get tins with 15 of these addicting babies inside for a very reasonable price given the size and the quality. I will admit that my first purchase was solely for me and I ate every last one of them. Trust me, even if you're a chocoholic, you can't eat the whole tin in one sitting. These are hefty, rich treats. Since then, I've bought and used them as gifts and the recipients are always THRILLED and end up asking how they can get more. A "thank you", a hostess treat, or something for someone who has it all...you won't regret giving these a try. I gave them to my sister once after she helped me when I was recuperating from surgery years ago, and she hates me to this day for introducing her to Colts Bolts (she's a health nut normally!).
google avatar

Yelp
Nom nom nom! I've the small store inside the factory. It is cool to see where the chocolates are made! The parking is not great but there is a pay for parking down the street. The staff is super nice and helpful. I love the salted caramel and the regular chocolate. The peanut butter was just okay for me!
google avatar

Don K.

Yelp
All handmade chocolates and desserts! No drinks except for the bottled water. Get your coffee from Barista Parlor around the corner. The whiskey caramel ganache brownie was as wonderfully decadent as it sounds! Everything and I do mean everything was very good. Thanks for all the samples, too!
google avatar

Claire B.

Yelp
This little chocolate shop is adorable. We stopped in on a whim and I'm glad we did. It's very small, but chocolates don't need that much space. I was bummed to not see modjeskas with such a good caramel recipe, but maybe this review will lead to them in the future. Their specialty is their gooey salted caramel bars. They were insanely good. Like, INSANELY GOOD. SO SO GOOD. I'm not sure it's possible to convey in words how much you need to put these in your mouth. I'm not even sure how much I paid for them, but I would sell my first-born child for another one. I highly suggest you stop reading this review immediately and go buy them out of these bars. I know they have to be atrociously high in calories, but they're well worth it.
google avatar

Aaron F.

Yelp
I admit I had heard about Colts before I actually shopped here. I bought a box of their handmade butter grahams in the Nashville airport on the way to LA. I didn't even get to eat them - they were for a friend. But she said they were really good. So when a Groupon came up, I jumped at the chance and bought two gift boxes. Let me say that Colts Chocolates are rich and sinful but are just good enough to not make you feel guilty. That's a pretty potent combination. The two $25 gift boxes I bought have 2-3 pieces of several of their mainstay products, and although I'm allergic to one of them (I think it has pecans), I found the rest to be utterly delicious and wonderful. On top of that, the staff was incredibly warm and receptive. I will be going back for sure!
google avatar

Matt L.

Yelp
If the only thing to do was to review the product itself, the rating would be higher. The chocolate itself is excellent, the flavors are smooth, sweet, and tasty. Everything is really good. But in the world that I live in, the quality of the product is only one part of the story and the other parts are awkward and difficult. The actual location really isn't a store. They seem to understand this, and they do what they can to make the product accessible in what amounts to a front office of a small factory. Now, let me tell you this right now: bring cash. You can pay with a credit card, but you'll have to do it via the website, even in the store. Cash gets you in and out. It's worth the trip to get Colt's Chocolates, and perhaps will the situation where you go will get better. In the meantime, if you want to order it online, go for it. Totally worth it.
google avatar

Chris C.

Yelp
Landed here quite by accident. Drove by with two grandchildren in the car. Sign says Chocolate nine times. How could we not go in? Wonderful products. The spicy almond chocolate is right up there with my all time favorites. Colt's Bolts (peanut butter and almonds in milk or dark chocolate) are well worth spending the next few days on Atkins to burn off the carbs. All the candy is made on premises and the quality shows. We live in California and I took a business card so I can order more when what we bought is gone (which is likely to be before we get to the Nashville airport tomorrow.) We come here several times a year and this will be a regular stop.
google avatar

Jackie A.

Yelp
Found this by accident and boy are we happy we did! Delicious treats and tons of choices. Yum!!
google avatar

Sara M.

Yelp
Colts chocolates has lots of great samples to try and they sell single chocolates so you can take home lots of different things. My only complaint is that the shop is tiny, so with 5 people in it, the space was very cramped. Otherwise worth a visit - lots of samples!
google avatar

Alisa H.

Yelp
You cant leave Nashville without trying Colts chocolates. Creamy, decadent, rich, but not that too-sickly-sweet taste. The mint chocolate brownies (limited time) were heavenly. Eyes rolled back in your head GOOD! Worth every penny.
google avatar

Jackie B.

Yelp
Stopped here while waiting for our Yazoo tour, and you should, too! Very friendly staff in the store, and tons of free samples! We went home with some bar chocolate with jalapeño and smoked almonds-some of the best stuff I've ever eaten. Definitely make sure to visit!

Keersten B.

Yelp
Great samples, customer service, quaint place! *just FYI no handicap, stroller entrance that I could find. It didn't stop me from parking the stroller inside the door and bring the sleeping baby in the car seat up stairs.
google avatar

J, R, S.

Yelp
I went to this place for the first time a couple of days ago and that was some awesome dessert rush! I tried the new spicy candy and it was quite interesting. The classic Colts Bolts are awesome. And of course, if you've been there before, you know about their phenomenal salty caramel gooey butter bites. The service was very nice and they gave us a tour of the shop. Heehaw! If you want some candy, get some Colts Bolts.
google avatar

Michelle C.

Yelp
I came here based on reviews and my obsession over chocolate. I bought some which are quite pricey but they're delicious and creative in flavor. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Mary M.

Yelp
We happened by this little shop in the Gulch. So glad that we did. Chocolates are delicious. The Ooey Gooey salted gooey caramel butter bar are to die for! The young lady working was charming and helpful.
google avatar

TasteBuds R.

Yelp
This is by far some of the best chocolate Nashville has to offer. Super friendly staff, and you get to try everything!! Highly recommend the bolts.

M A W.

Yelp
Had no clue about this gem that has been here longer than a good portion of this city's population now. Great stuff! Walked in the store and there were samples of many of the items. Everything was yummy! Mackenzie was indulging me with her delicious Valentine day chocolate covered brownies. I didn't purchase any, but they were delicious along with everything else. Had about 6 of the specialty items, loved the choco covered grahams. I've been back several times since finding this place in 2014 and bought the gooey butter bites and bumble bees (like a turtle). All good and tasty! You can't go wrong here; something for everyone. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Rebekah R.

Yelp
This place was so good ! Lots of samples so you actually knew what you were buying . The place was very cute inside and the bourbon brownie didn't disappoint , delicious . I wish I could of spent more time looking at all the desserts that were prepackaged but from what I saw and tasted , I'd say go here if you're in need something sweet , they have it !

Nora M.

Yelp
If this discount coupon ever comes around again, scoop it up immediately! If not, don't let that stop you from going to this female run/owned business that is operated out of Nashville. Being a transplant to the Nashville area, I am always looking for "go to" places for different things. Colt's Chocolates and Desserts is at the top of the list. Extremely high quality product at a good price point. The owner and support staff are extremely friendly, knowledgeable about the line, and willing to help you shop and make your shopping experience a good one. The only downside is parking, so be patient. This inconvenience is greatly outweighed by the owner telling you her story and you munching on one of her products.
google avatar

Brenda G.

Yelp
Best chocolate I've EVER TASTED! The caramel ooey gooey bars are SO good! The Colts Bolts and the Bumblebees are also absolutely delicious! I didn't know Colts existed until recently! Had no idea what I was missing out on! I highly recommend checking this amazing store out!!
google avatar

Devin T.

Yelp
AMAZING chocolates and wonderful staff!!! We stopped on our way towards Chicago for Christmas and were greeted and treated like family! We are big animal lovers and were thrilled to buy treats that also support various animal welfare groups as well. I highly recommend stopping at this quant location for some down home love and chocolates.
google avatar

Julea T.

Yelp
This place is the best! Everything here is incredible. The salted caramel gooey butter bites are one of the best desserts I've ever had before. The chess pie and fudge pie are both amazing as well, and they've got beautifully wrapped gift packages for birthdays, Mother's Day, etc. The parking situation is not so great, but it won't stop me from making regular visits! Yum! You've got to go check 'em out!
google avatar

James G.

Yelp
We accidentally stepped into this place. What an absolute hidden gem. The owner is fabulous as well as the rest of the staff. Their chocolates are simply to die for. Going to make an extra stop tomorrow morning before heading for home. If you live locally and haven't going here what is your problem?
google avatar

Cort L.

Yelp
We loved Colts!! Amazing AMAZING chocolates. Really wonderful staff! Caught up on a Hee Haw episode or two while shopping and the best part was our special meeting of Mackenzie Colt!! She was wonderful and so kind and appreciative. We will definitely be back!! These chocolates don't last long!
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Now open on Saturday!!! Just went and was lucky enough to meet the owner. Very friendly and helpful. If you love chocolate and/or desserts, you must go. Salted Caramel Butter Melt so good!!!

Hotsy M.

Yelp
Purchased over $400 worth of chocolates for a trade show gift bag, we were shorted a box. When I called to get a credit I was in a head on confrontation with the owner (who came out with nails bared!) she was incredibly rude and condescending as if we were lying about the missing box. Never have I been treated so badly from any store owner in my life and had such a negative experience. She emailed me saying I could buy another box and they would ship it! Just wanted a credit for what we didn't receive when our order was picked up! Never got a reply or phone call to rectify the situation. This person needs to stay in the kitchen with her chocolates and have someone who is customer friendly and professional represent her brand! Needless to say we will not do business with this person again nor will we promote this store. Shame we really liked the chocolates but there are other local chocolatiers who will now be getting our ongoing business!
