Exciting Restaurants to Try in San Jose 2025 | Eater

"This no-frills Vietnamese restaurant serves up heaping portions of broken rice topped with your choice of barbecue pork or fried bean curd with shrimp. Phở dặc biệt comes with all the fixings, but a streamlined version, sans the tripe and tendon, is available, too. There’s Bánh Cuốn stuffed with raw fermented beef, fried mung bean bread, and, in a crossover nod to the neighborhood, pad Thai and Thai tea for those days when you need a mid-afternoon pick-me-up." - Christina Marie Mueller

Broken rice was too mushy. The grilled pork was dry and did not have the smoky char - was more caramelized. They should have put less rice and more meat. This dish was not a real authentic com suon nuong!

Google
Pretty good! Not too busy on a Sunday evening. Egg rolls were so good. Pho is decent though I like it a little saltier (personal preference). 5 stars because they have Durian shake!!!

Looking for a laid-back spot with amazing food? Check out Com Tam Thanh on South Bascom in San Jose. The service is quick, and no matter what you order, the food is always fresh and delicious. Highly recommended for a casual yet satisfying meal!

Google
Always order number 41. Always delicious and has enough rice noodles. The water was actually good. It doesn't taste like tap water.

Google
This place is amazing! I’m a big fan of the sandwiches, the Pho is incredible and and of the broken rice dishes! Very authentic and very flavorful. I love coming here when I’m in town, no frills and totally my style of Vietnamese restaurant. Bring all of friends and family the place is very large and spacious!!!

Ordered grilled pork banh mi to go, $11.25. Fairly busy. Pho looks good. Lunch plates i saw looked good. Nice amount of meat, good amount of veggies ( mostly daikon, nice flavor. A little bit dry, but good. I'll come back to try a dinner plate next time.

Been coming here for over 10 years. It is consistently good. The food is delicious with generous portions for the price. Never get tired of this place and I genuinely crave it. Staff is friendly and service is efficient.

Excellent Vietnamese food frequently visited by the hospital workers next door. Delicious pho and bun bo hue hit the spot on a cold day. Beware of the little green peppers in bun bo hue and don't bite into them or you'll regret it.

Yelp
If you're in SJ, you know there's no shortage of banh mi spots, but Com Tam Thanh is definitely my favorite. It's a no-frills kind of place--just solid food, service, and generous portions.. aka my kind of spot! Their banh mi thit nuong (grilled pork) and banh mi trung lap zuong cha lua (egg, sausage, and pork roll) are so good. The sandwiches are always fresh, a great size for the price, and service is quick. The only thing to note is they sometimes run out of bread, so it's best to order a bit earlier. If you're not in the mood for a sandwich, their broken rice plates and beef pho are also top-notch. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Been to the Newark location and this restaurant has a large parking lot and huge inside. It was a tad warm, but service was prompt. Huge menu but I love my pho tai, so ordered that whereas my friend had bun with their grilled pork as our server said their grilled meats are well known. Pho came out with a huge side of my raw onions in vinegar. Overall, it was pretty good. Some steak slices were chewy but some were perfectly tender. It's a standard bowl of pho but on the pricier side for at $16.95 a bowl.

Yelp
My favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the Bay Area! Drove an hour to get here but OMG! Worth it. Com Tam tastes authentic and DELICIOUS! Bun Bo Hue, surprisingly also DELICIOUS!!!!! Portions are big and very filling! * Bonus * restroom is clean !!!

Yelp
Many times I've passed by without further thought, which is a great tragedy cause it turns out their fare is pretty solid and definitely competitive with other Vietnamese spots in the area. Super casual eatery though, so decor is quite simple and service was curt (albeit quite efficient, after you get their attention). Pretty good variety of smoothies and drinks as well, but I was there for a quick lunch and they certainly delivered. As a plus they do have a small parking lot to make it even easier to drop by. Their Brisket Pho (4.5/5) was quite tender and broth was pretty on point, plenty of fragrant veggies to toss in. Broth temp wasn't quite the hottest, but flavor was good and my brother was left quite satisfied. 23 Cam Tam Bi Cha Ga Nuong (5/5) - was a nice combination rice plate with their Chicken. Deliciously tender and well seasoned for a grill option item. The rest of the platter tasted rather home-style with a pretty light seasoning but good on texture and freshness. The side broth given was perfectly piping hot to pair with. Definitely would grab this one again without hesitation.

Yelp
One of our favorite local pho spot that also offers Vietnamese & Chinese entrees. Serving size large enough for two meals. Great place for take out where meals enjoyed at home taste as freshly served dine-in. Time the call in order to enjoy it as fresh as possible because only takes 15-20 min to prep. Seafood pho is Dad's favorite because of the satisfying portion of fish, shrimp & calamari. Careful as the shrimp is usually cleaned thoroughly, but this time the intestine stuck to shrimp. An extra rinse would be fine. Hubby always enjoys the lean raw beef pho. When ordering to go, ask for meat to be pre-cooked and will put in broth. The veggie tofu stir fry was flavorful which included a side of rice.

Yelp
Today we were craving Vietnamese food, this was more of the complete Vietnamese restaurants around the area. AMBIANCE: Parking: Plaza parking. Not a big plaza but a not too busy place as it seems to have a good flow. Seating: Inside seating good for groups small and large. It can fit maybe about 50 people. Vibes: A semi-suburban area of San Jose. It gets pretty busy with the school or the hospital near by. A few minutes down and you are in the more touristy/busy area of Valley Fair/Santa Row mall. The restaurant itself is relatively simple. Pretty bright, decor here and there to represent Vietnamese culture and pictures of some of their foods. There are a few tvs on if you want to watch the news or catch a sports game. Great for gatherings and if you want then you can be productive. FOOD: Banh Mi - BBQ Pork (Recommend) Delicious but a bit pricey. A good portion of meat, fresh bread and veggies. There's a small shop across the block that sells banh mi for half the price (limited choices and runs out quick) CUSTOMER SERVICE: Simple and cordial. A very hustle and bustle energy. TL; DR OVERALL: 3.5 Stars. Good selections, good food, and a steady ambiance. I am surprised with the cost of the Banh Mi but the Bay Area is expensive. I wouldn't mind coming back here. #Represent-ASIAN TIPS: * Well rounded shop for food and drinks! * Com Tam means broken rice.

Yelp
Been here many times, but lately i've been coming solely for their drinks! Their strawberry boba drink is so amazing! They use real strawberries and their honey boba is chewy and sweet. The drink itself has a great consistency, it's icy and refreshing and quenches my fruity drink cravings. Their apple boba is good too, they use real green apples and the consistency is reminiscent of apple sauce. Their food is great too though, I love their eggrolls and egg noodle pho!

Yelp
Since I work a full day, this is my go to spot when I want pho. I have ordered other dishes here such as their rice plates, bun thit nuong and nem nuong cuon. Most people I have seen usually order the pho. If you are eating in, a server will seat you. You have to go up to the counter to pay your bill. Food comes out super fast, as well as service. They also sell smoothies and milk teas along with other traditional Vietnamese drinks. I would advise not getting the boba here. The smoothies are really delicious though. The restaurant itself is wide and open with plenty of space in between tables. There is also a separate room to the right of the main entrance. I think I have only eaten on that side once. There are two separate parking lots on both side of the restaurant which are tiny so be aware of that.

Yelp
Such big portions! So yummy! Honestly, I go here quite a lot. It is just solid food that you come to expect from San Jose. Service is always fast. Ambiance is your typical comfort food joint-- no frills, TVs playing sports, etc. a favorite for sure!

Yelp
I can't say enough of this place. If only there was a restaurant this good close to my house. Great customer service, reasonable price, especially with our current economy and top quality food. I highly highly highly recommend this place if you are looking to have Vietnamese food for lunch or dinner. I come by here as often as I can, but after moving Away, I can only come here once in a while. Quality of food:: A + + + Quality of service: A + + + Price: $ - $$

Yelp
This place is located at the intersection of Bascom & Fruitdale and is a popular lunch destination for all the surrounding businesses and especially next door to the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. During lunch rush on any day you'll see assortment of people from the hospital such as doctors, nurses & other hospital staff enjoying a meal during their break or just walking over and picking up their to go orders. I used to work right down the street from here and for years we'd have lunch or even dinner, depending if I was working overtime, from here almost 3 to 4 times a week! I used to dine in or ordered for take out depending how I was feeling. Parking is limited. If there isn't any available parking in their lot, there is street parking around the corner into the neighborhoods. Just be careful not to block a driveway! Give any of their broken rice plates a try, this is what they're known for! BBQ chicken, pork or shrimp. The flavor of their meats is so delicious! Some plates vary and will include sides such as steamed pork cake, fried egg, or Fried bean curd. Not feeling rice, try their chow fun or chow mein plates. My personal favorite, the Crispy egg noodles with stir fried shrimp, chicken, beef & veggies is worth giving a shot! Explore the menu! You won't be disappointed! 10/10 This restaurant is in my rotation of regular places to eat at, so I still get to enjoy a meal from here despite not working down the street anymore. I'd recommend this place to anyone willing to give it a try!

Yelp
This is a solid Vietnamese place to grab some food. I mainly stick to the vermicelli bowls, which always have fresh veggies, a good amount of meat (too much for me) and the eggroll. I've ordered both for here and to go - the portion is decently sized and I usually have to split it into two meals. My other go to order is the pad thai - yeah, I know. Who orders pad thai at a Vietnamese restaurant? Apparently, enough people as it's a well liked item on the menu and sometimes run out when I want to order it. I love the amount of protein included and the flavor is consistent - not too much, but not too little either. The eggrolls here are a bit different - I believe they use spring roll wrappers (clear rice paper) instead of the usual flour ones. It gives it a chewy consistency, which I actually enjoy with the lettuce and fish sauce mix. My friend and I came here the other day and while we didn't have to wait for seats at 2PM, there were a ton of people. We found some clean tables, sat down and waited for someone to come get our order. Our food came out quickly and I enjoyed what we got. My friend also liked her soup. We were able to sit in a little corner, so it was quiet enough where we could have a conversation and catch up without hearing other people's conversations. The service was adequate - we got everything we needed in a timely manner without too much asking. While the food and service was good, there was nothing that made it stand out. It's a great little place for friends and family to share a quick meal, but nothing that demands your attention to come back soon.

Yelp
I should've known from the overall rating but this place was not good. My sister felt nauseous after eating the bun Bo hue which she normally orders at different restaurants and she normally doesn't get sick from food. Service was decent but aside from my sister feeling unwell from the food, it was not very good. My parents really like pho and have tried a lot of places and they said the broth was bland. I got a rice plate with shredded pork and beef which was fine but nothing special. With so many different options in the area we will probably not choose to come back here.
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for some pho and spring rolls. I got the pho with beef and tendon. The pho had a good soup to noodle ratio and the broth had good flavor. I got the pork and shrimp spring roll. The peanut sauce for the spring roll was really good, and helps to balance out some of the dryness of the pork. Next trip I'd like to try the bun bo hue Service was quick. Of note the receipt will come with lump sum -- you need to ask for itemized receipt. Inside has simple decoration with variety of sizes of tables.

Yelp
I been eating here for the past 3 years since I work at the hospital down the street. All my co workers have always came here so wanted to give it a go since I do love Vietnamese food. The service is wonderful, very nice and pleasant workers. One of the ladies who helps with payment and seating customers is always so pleasant. Sorry did not get her name but she is always working there. The man who also helps at the cashier end, he is also very friendly. When u walk in, place is big and food smells so good. They have a back area which looks like a bar area, another place in the back to sit or if u are having like 30 or more people coming, good spot for a get together party or meeting. The food: 10/10. I always get their fresh spring rolls, comes with their homemade peanut butter sauce. All so good, taste so fresh and on point. The plate i order as well: #40- chicken pho. Their broth is sooo good, flavors of the broth taste authentic. Their chicken they use has no fat, all fresh sliced white meat chicken. They are not greedy with giving it inside the pho like other places which don't give much or their chicken is too fatty. This place is 10/10 Order number #68- vermicelli with BBQ pork and vegetables. Omg....to die for !!! Very fresh vermicelli noodles and the BBQ pork taste is to the T. So fresh cooked, flavorful. It's sooo addicting to eat once u have it, u want to go back again to get it. Portion is big, prices are not bad. Yes everywhere u go is expensive but I'd rather eat this food than mcd, or burger king. Give this place a try, promise it's worth it !!

Yelp
We enjoy their noodles with white meat only..... lotsa white meat....portion is always very generous and taste is good. Staff ..always courteous and attentive.

Yelp
Great food, good service, and a variety of options for anyone who is a picky eater... I recommend the chow fun and their curry!

Yelp
Been going here for awhile. We called ahead for take-out. Ordered the spring rolls and 3 out of 4 of them were great, one kinda fell apart and had more lettuce than anything else. The 3 that held together were really good. They have changed the recipe of the best peanut sauce and the new recipe is not a current fav. This place has always been our gato for Pho but is rapidly losing our love.

Yelp
Found this hidden gem when my daughter worked across the street last summer. We liked their food and service. Recently came back and it's still as good as last time. This time I ordered the rice plate with steamed fish. The fish, well cooked in the most tasty soup stock, was amazingly delicate and tender. The melt-in-your-mouth texture was the product of long hour cooking in a controlled precise temperature, bathing in soup base. I think it's a French poaching technique, similar to sous vide, except that sous vide uses water. Hai Nan Chicken rice, originated from south east Asia, has similar cooking style like sous vide. They just didn't invent the expensive water oven to do the work. The infusion of its unique food culture in vegetables and herbs yields a velvety fish texture, basting in rich and slightly creamy soup, accompanied by water spinach (stemmed from south east Asia) and steam rice. The enchanting hybrid was nearly perfect and I loved it! I just wasn't adventurous enough to eat the fish head, as suggested by the female staff. She was so very nice that she even gave us some baguettes to take home. Overall very friendly staff. Modern and bright decor. Clean environment including bathroom. Casual and relaxing vibe. Everything was great! Thanks for an exceptional dining experience. Highly recommend it!

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a Friday by myself. The restaurant was really smoky compared to the outside, but thankfully I got sat in a seat next to a fan pointed outside. Not sure if they were having ventilation problems or something. Service was quick. I got the Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio. I thought I was going to have to take home half of it but the fish sauce was so refreshing the oily cha gio went down easily and I finished the entire thing!

Yelp
Thanks to Julia S for introducing me to this delicious banh mi place. With a buy three, get 1 free deal, I was a lucky recipient of one of the BBQ pork sandwiches and I was impressed by the well flavored juicy meat and crunchy bread. If you eat jalapeños, beware because they are sliced thick. Although service is slow, I will definitely be coming back to get more banh mi and other things.

Yelp
This is down the street from my work, doesn't get too packed for a quick drive for lunch. I believe there are 2 parking lots, I usually end up going to the back side parking lot. I've ordered to-go over the phone and dined in from here. They accept card! I've only had the marinated pork vermicelli here but it's sooo good. Lots of flavor in the pork marinade. They give a good amount of noodles and meat. The thai tea was good too.

Yelp
I'm pretty surprised at the good reviews but maybe the dish we ordered just isn't their specialty. There are two small parking lots available next to the restaurant for customers only. We came at 11 am but nothing on the menu that's stir-fried is available until 12 (not stated anywhere). Also, there was a piece of carrot on the lip of the water glass we were given (questionable hygiene). The water is clearly tap water too. My mom ended up ordering the vegetarian rolls (an appetizer) and added an egg for an extra charge. She liked the crispiness and the taste. There's some kind of flour-y texture in it that might be mung bean starch. I ordered the fresh rice rolls special combo (#93) which comes with "steamed rice flour roll with ground pork and mushrooms, pork roll, fried pork roll, raw fermented beef, and mung bean bread." The dish was about 50% bean sprouts - even more than what's on a side plate of bean sprouts for pho. My mom loves bean sprouts and even she said this was excessive. The fried mung bean bread was the most interesting item on the plate although the outsides were burnt. The one rectangular prism (roughly 2"×1"×0.5") of raw beef was pretty good. The slices of "pork roll" were a little mushy but had the faint sweet taste of cured meats (mainly ham). There were only two pieces of rice noodle rolls that had the ground pork and mushroom mix in it. The rest of the plate was just plain flat sheets of rice flour noodles.

Yelp
Food: We ordered the Bun Bo Hue(spicy beef noodle soup), Banh cuon dac biet, and Com Tam suon bi cha(Broken Rice with pork ribs). Surprisingly, the portion size of the banh cuon dac biet was huge and very filling, I had leftovers We also ordered a soursop smoothie with boba and a Thai tea smoothie with boba. Both were delicious and sweet, and they didn't mess up the boba like some places tend to do The menu offers various options of dishes to choose from. They even have a vegetarian selection on the backside of the menu, which is very nice to see as some members of my family are vegetarian. Service: The staff members were so nice and friendly, especially the lady at the cashier. It's a family owned business, and they put a lot of hard work into keeping this restaurant clean and running smoothly. Space: The restaurant has plenty of open seating with windows all around. There are two seatings areas that can fit many people. It was nearly packed for the Thursday lunch rush. The room was vibrant with all the patrons seated and the sunshine shining through the windows. It seems to be a popular spot for construction workers and nurses from the nearby hospital. Definitely recommend this place and coming back for more!

Yelp
I ordered the brisket pho (with added veggies) to-go and WOW it was so fresh and everything was cooked perfectly. The broth was so flavorful, probably the best I've had in the South Bay. Don't skip on this spot, they know what's up!

Yelp
Food was good and the service was excellent. Vermicelli with grilled meat (both pork and chicken) are great, broken rice dishes, rice flour rolls and fried noodles are all good. Wonton soup noodles is very soothing for me. I eat there at least once every week.

Camila Fernanda O.

Yelp
I come for the pad Thai damn near weekly, it's so good. The girl who is always here is so nice to me and always make me feel welcomed. They have good broken rice plates, fried egg rolls and spring rolls.

Gabriela B.

Yelp
This is my husband and I's go to pho spot. We love that the portions are big and the food always had really good flavor. The service is always quick even if they are super busy and they're always very nice. We've been coming here for years and will continue to. Thank you for the great food and hospitality!

Yelp
Was craving some comfort food for dinner on a cold rainy night and came across Com Tam Thanh - super convenient because it's only less than a mile away from home. There's a couple small parking lots one both sides of the restaurant. It was a bit confusing trying to find the front door as it seems like there's two restaurants sharing the same building? Anywho, I called in prior to place an order and went straight to the register to pay for my order. I ordered 2 Bun Rieus with pork blood - it costs additional $1 for pork blood per order.. total came out to about $26/$18 per - yike, that's pretty pricy in my opinion. Maybe because of the extra charge for pork blood and takeout, has increased overall? However, they did provide a whole baggy of veggies, sauces, and lemons (more than enough for 2 people). Regardless, complaints aside, the bun rieu really hit the spot and the meats were seasoned well and the broth was just flavorful enough, unlike other places where it can be salty and overwhelming. On another visit, I ordered nem nuong spring rolls and cha gio (egg rolls). An order of nem nuong is 3 rolls and an order of egg rolls is 4 rolls. The nem nuong spring rolls were meh okay, the nem nuong was thick and not as flavorful plus it didn't have noodles but it did have pickled carrots and radishes. However, the egg rolls were delicious, even wrapping them in lettuce you still get the full crunch - yum!

Yelp
Great food! Maybe not quite the full 5 star, but it's authentic. Takes me back to when I lived in SoCal and went to family owned Vietnamese restaurants all the time. I got the ~$20 broken rice plate with all the fixings and shared with my husband. He ordered bò kho which had generous amount of beef chunks in it. Service is as you would expect from an Asian owned restaurant with one guy waiting and doing check out for everyone. Just ask, and people are more than happy to help. I've also had the bánh mì here which are quite good but regrettably on the pricier side. I would come back again if I'm in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Quick seating and service. A lot of food for what you order. Flavoring could be a bit better as both Diane's needed some sort of sauce to give it a boost. The TV music in the back is fairly loud. You will leave with left overs!

Yelp
It was a super hot over 100 degree day in SJ, and I decided to get a rice plate. I got the com suon nuong, with bi, tohu ki, and thit chan ($17). The suon nuong was definitely not marinated well, it was under seasoned. The tohu ki was not bad. The thit chan was bland. The bi was not bad. Overall it was an okay meal. I also ordered a hot tea, and the menu clearly said pot, but oh no they gave me a water down cup of hot tea for $1 instead.

Yelp
I recently came here while visiting San Jose with my dad, brother, and nephew. When we arrived, a waiter quickly seated us in the secondary dining room and turned on the sports channel for my brother and nephew. It really helped to break the ice a bit for my brother and dad, especially because communication between my nephew and dad can be difficult due to my dad's hearing impairments. There were a lot of children seated around us (smart) so it was a lot of stimulus. Not to mention the blender going at the bar and a light being replaced simultaneously. But I will say that it was some strategic seating on their part. While the restaurant appeared to be busy, servers rushed around tables and were able to seat and serve everyone. My nephew's bahn mi didn't come out at the same time as our pho, but when we were able to catch a waiter and ask about it, the sandwich was promptly delivered. The building is obviously a bit on the older side, but pretty decently maintained as the tables and utensils were clean. The food was great and, yes, maybe they could clean around the windowsills. But overall a great setting for an affordable dinner.

Yelp
I dined here for lunch. At Com Tam Thanh, we ordered a broken rice plate with BBQ pork and a grilled chicken plate, both of which were pretty average in flavor. The side soup, unfortunately, was overly salty, which detracted from the meal. While the food came out quickly, the server didn't return to refill our water, which was a bit disappointing. Based on this experience, I might skip it next time, though I might consider trying their pho instead.
google avatar

Cynthia W.

Yelp
3.5 / 5 Have been coming here since I was a kid. Always cheap and big portion. I like their broken rice plates. I always get a plate with the steam egg. Service is fast and casual.
google avatar

Jack H.

Yelp
This place is still our preferred pho place even after we moved further away since 2016. To this day there's no seafood pho that includes fish, not one, but two. The service is like any other asian place where you need something you can ask. Don't expect them to make rounds because it's not that type of restaurant. Nowadays I substitute my regular Pho with egg noodle.
google avatar

Kathryn N.

Yelp
I ordered the 1) egg rolls 2) vermicelli with pork, shrimp, and egg roll and 3) avocado smoothie. I was not a fan of the egg rolls. The egg rolls here are not wrapped in the traditional egg roll wrapper. If I have to guess, the egg rolls are wrapped in rice paper and then fried. The issue I have with the egg rolls is that they weren't crispy or crunchy (which are what egg rolls are expected to be!). The egg rolls here are especially chewy and if you look at the picture, it's partly due to how many times the egg roll is wrapped in the wrapper. The filling to wrapper ratio is sad and takes up less than 50% of the inside. The 4 egg rolls also came with 2 lettuce leaves. If there are 4 egg rolls, shouldn't there be 4 lettuce leaves? If you're going to serve egg rolls with lettuce leaves, there should also be a side of pickled radish and carrots since that's how egg rolls are typically eaten (if not plain). Would not order the egg rolls again. The vermicelli with pork, shrimp, and egg roll was also disappointing. Overall, I would say that it's average, but the egg roll and the shrimp with the poop track intact was what made the dish disappointing. Also wouldn't order again. If I wanted to get vermicelli at nearby location, the vermicelli at Pho Mai #2 is better. The avocado smoothie was too sweet for my liking. I tasted more of the condensed milk than the avocado, but out of the items I ordered, the avocado smoothie was probably the the least disappointing.

Joe W.

Yelp
If I could give 0.5 stars I would. Food was good but the service was absolutely horrible. Couldn't even get 1 glass of water the entire time we were eating. Waited 25 mins before I decided to chase down a server for simple glass of water. Awful service. Do NOT come here if you're thirsty! Waitress will ignore you until you leave.

Yelp
I was craving pho so my boyfriend and I decided to try this spot instead of our usual spot. Since we went right before dinner, there was still a few parking spots, but I can see it being tough since the lots were very small. We ordered the pho thai chin, bun thit nuong cha gio, and a strawberry smoothie. The meat in both dishes were plentiful and flavorful, the portions were great, and it tasted good. The smoothie just seemed like blended strawberries & ice which isn't an issue for me, but I was expecting some type of dairy in it especially since it was kind of expensive. The restaurant seemed a little dirty with dust and grime on the window sills, flies flying around, and stained utensils. The tap water was also disgusting. My boyfriend drinks tap water without any issues and even he was shocked about how bad the water tasted. All-in-all, I'm not sure if I'd be back, but I would be open to trying this place again.

Yelp
This has been my go to pho spot for years now! I love a good bowl of pho when the weather gets cold or someone in the family is starting to get sick. I admit, I almost always order my food for takeout so I can't speak much on the experience when dining in. However, this is a great local spot for all kinds of Vietnamese dishes. One standout is the egg rolls, I believe they use rice paper instead of egg wrappers which gives them a bubbly exterior that we absolutely love. Always a must have! The staff is very friendly as well and seems to me like it's a l owned restaurant, which we love to support.

Yelp
Usually dont eat Vietnamese food on this part of town, but it was nice to see one here when I was in the area so we didn't have to drive east. Looks like this is the same as the Story/McLaughlin location. So just like that location, it was familiar in a good way. Good Com Tam dishes. Pho isn't their specialty but it was still good in my book. Yes there are better, but I welcome great Com Tam with good Pho. Portions of the Pho makes up for not being the best. Just like the other location I go here for the Com Tam rice plates. Overall really good. The beef is tender, great flavor, and looks like cooked fresh. Only reason for the reduction in stars is because although I' not Vietnamese, I frequest A LOT of vietnamese restaurants in the last 2 decades since I got introduced to Vietnamese food. I've ate at a lot of Com Tam places. My only criticism is the shredded pork skin has a drier than I like texture. I need to really douse it with the fish sauce. The egg cake, although good, is more firm than I like. Of course this is just my personal choices. I prefer the shredded pork and egg cake from Com Tam Dat Thanh or Com Tam Thien Huong. However, don't let those minor criticism sway you away. I wont hesitate to go here. Other than that, expect the typical local Asian style courtesy. If you dont know about it, or not used to it, likely you'll reduce the stars more, which I dont because thats just how it is. You take that away then you stepped into an American restaurant trying to be Asian lol. More positive about this location than going to Little Saigon or ESSJ, not as congested, more parking.

Yelp
Pretty delicious pho spot right by the city college. The place is big with lots of seating, not to mention the bowls of pho are big too! They have lots of options to choose from, from appetizers, to boba, to rice plates and so on. The parking lot is very small but street parking is available.

Yelp
I got their broken rice plate and a order of spring rolls. The price, portion, and taste was great! The service was also really good! The rice plate reminded me why I used to love this type of dish. Everything went well together and it had all the toppings / meats that I look for in a rice plate. I also really enjoyed the pork spring roll as it had a lot of flavor and it came with peanut dipping sauce (my favorite!) Would go again when I crave rice plates and spring rolls!

Yelp
Needed to grab a quick lunch while in the area so CTT seemed like a good bet. There's a small parking lot as well as street parking so that was nice. It's a big place but tables were quite far apart for COVID-safe measures. That was good. Order at the counter and menus stuck to the tables as you approach so you know ahead what you need to get. The problem was there wasn't much vegetarian or even pescatarian options. So I asked the guy at the counter who was helpful enough to accommodate my request. I got com tam / broken rice (of course) with bean curb wrapped shrimp and sugar cane shrimp. And a soursop smoothie. I was given a small table in the corner but that was fine. The first problem though was that it took very long for my order to come out. Even the smoothie! And when it did come out, the food was meh ok. Nothing to write home about. Too bad because I had high expectations somehow. Anyway, it's still a good joint for broken rice in a pinch but there are many better ones in the South Bay.

Yelp
3.5 - I have only had the Pho Tai here. The broth was on the light side, could have used more seasoning. Still good though, I'd imagine some would prefer it. Meat slices thick and over cooked by the time I had received the bowl... definitely very far from rare. The place was clean, fixings were fresh, and the noodles were good. The pho was truly Mid. My new place is so close to here, so I'll likely be back to try more stuff. Giving the benefit of the doubt and rounding up. See ya next time! :)

Yelp
I used to come here alot and at one point it did have very good food. However over time the taste, quality and price got really out of whack. The pho and bon bo hue used to be my favorites here. But it's not the same anymore. Many of the add on ingredients like the basil and sprouts did not look fresh and some of the meat was not edible. Parking lot is small. Some parking in the neighborhoods but you will have to walk. The exterior and interior of the place is in dire need of a clean up, bathrooms, windows, floors and tables were sticky even after the waitress wiped it. The men's bathroom is disgusting, no soap, toilet paper, and towels. Seeing the employees use the same bathroom and then go back to handling my food just made me ill. After my most recent trips here and seeing the same issues persist, I won't be returning.

Yelp
While we were there eating our pho, we saw a cockroach climbing on the wall. A male employee also noticed it and swept it off the wall with a broom. But didn't say anything to us about it. Very gross. Was also very discouraged when going through other yelp reviews to see that someone had a roach in their soup a year ago.
