When you have a Broken Rice craving early in the morning.
Cơm Tấm Thuận Kiều is one of the classic names when it comes to getting Broken Rice in Little Saigon. However, truth be told, I've never been a fan because regardless of which location you go to, I always found their food to be really oily. While they seem to have every possible protein option known to man, there's a consistently oily quality to the meats that just doesn't do it for me... especially considering how the restaurant itself smells of incense and fish sauce, even early in the morning.
I got an order of Broken Rice with Grilled Pork (Thịt Nướng), Grilled Pork Sausage (Nem Nướng), and Egg Rolls as well as an order of Bánh Hỏi (woven rice vermicelli) with Chinese Sausage, Grilled Short Ribs, and a Crispy Chicken Leg. As I mentioned before, almost all of the meats are pretty oily except for the Nem Nướng and the Crispy Chicken Leg. They give you a bowl of pork bone soup before your meal is served, which is probably the least oily portion of the meal.
I can talk about how ordering Nem Nướng in any form not from Brodard is almost always a mistake, how I've never encountered Bánh Hỏi as shoddily woven anywhere else, and how TQC on Harbor & Edinger is way better for Cơm Tấm, but none of this is news to anyone who's familiar with the area. The reason to come here, though, is that they open at 8 a.m. in the morning.
If you want Broken Rice for breakfast, here you go!
Remember that even though they accept credit cards, it's a $20 minimum. Plan accordingly!
