18 Best Greenville, South Carolina, Restaurants | Eater Carolinas

"Chef Dayna Lee-Márquez calls the menu at Comal 864 “bordertown food”— a version of the southern Tex-Mex she grew up on. She produces sauces by hand, as well as crushable specials, but it’s the al pastor and birria tacos that keep her Midtown spot hopping. She was a James Beard semi-finalist nominee in 2023. An avid activist, Lee-Márquez hosts events for local organizations and issues she supports. A bar called Escorpión is opening soon with Graham Stockley behind its tequila-driven cocktail program. Comal 864 is a great stop to eat and drink before a show at nearby music venue Radio Room." - Stephanie Burnette

We stopped here for dinner last Tuesday before my sons band concert. This was our first time here. My dad and my daughter got there before we did and they both got a taco salad. My dad really enjoyed it along with the chips, salsa and queso. I went with the chorizo burrito and my wife ordered the 2 tacos and went with al pastor and carne asada. She loved the flavor of the carne asada taco. But the thing that stole the show were those BIRRIA EGG ROLLS! Those things with that consumme, makes you wanna do some illegal it tastes so good! Beware we did eat one immediately and my wife tried one later after it had been sitting and said its best to eat them when they are hot. The chips and queso were good but we can't get those egg rolls off our minds. Fantastic service. Fantastic restaurant. Just wish we had visited sooner.

Finally! Mexican breakfast! I've been waiting for this breakfast option and Comal 864 has definitely delivered. Can't wait to visit again and try the other menu items. Pictured Is the Chilaquiles with chicken. Perfect over medium egg on top!

Comal 864 is the absolute best food, bar experience, and our favorite restaurant in Greenville. Food is consistently excellent with always a couple new things to try. The drinks are amazing, especially on Wednesday nights. We always have the best time!

This was my first time trying Comal out. And I do not regret anything. Portions are super hearty and flavorful. I got the burrito with El pastor meat, good Lord. It'd gives a chipotle burrito sized a run for it's money. The crunch on those egg rolls, we're phenomenal. And the quesadilla my Mom got, was packed to the brim with chicken. We will absolutely be back. Loved every bite!

First time ….had the Greenville Taco…..best ever! Lovingly made with fresh ingredients which made it burst with flavors and taste. Be patient because they make ‘em one at a time. Worth the wait. Now if only you guys can make better coffee….. Will be back here next time in town.

Edit: had the asada torta finally and man did my tastebuds explode, absolutely delicious. Everything we've had here has always been out of this world, along with the service, the lady who took our order has been so helpful every time we've come in & absolutely the sweetest. I'm big on al pastor and theirs is juicy, tender, and the flavor is out of this world, so much that my husband only wants al pastor from there. We got the cucumber salad appetizer and it is perfectly salty, flavored, and has a smidge of heat. I asked for a side of onions and cilantro and it was so fresh tasting. I normally get the al pastor quesadilla but I decided to try the mulita with Al pastor and it was the best decision ever, I thought I loved the quesadilla but the Mulita has stolen my heart. As an Arizona native, they have some of the best Mexican food in the upstate!

This business should franchise out to be able to eat it in my home state. I will comeback next time in town. Sure will be missed.

This place is incredible! I stopped in on a Friday morning and ordered the breakfast bowl with chorizo. It was fantastic. The flavor was so good that I told them it was like a home-cooked meal before I left. I was impressed. It was a lot of food and was doubting I could eat it all, but because it was so tasty I managed to down it all. I'd have to say this was one of the best breakfasts I've had in Greenville. It was very clean and the staff were very nice and asked if I had any questions about the menu. No doubt I'll be back again and make this one of my regular spots because it was so delicious.
