This was my first and maybe last time attending Joe Rogan's Comedy Mothership.
I attended the "Best of Comedy Mothership", 7-9 show on a Thursday. first of all, I didn't realize how pretentious this club has become.
let me start at the front door, most of those guys are young and good at what they are doing. However, you have a few obvious "angry frat bro's" who think they are funny but are really just assholes and like to flex their "door power". I thought I was going to get into a fight with one of these guys when I asked him to unlock the bag so that I could have my phone. (I needed my phone because I use Apple Pay, which I was going to use to pay for a drinks at the bar). It was like I inconvenienced him and oh boy, the attitude and the smart ass comments from this kid. i think he was more angry that I didn't engage him and feed into his negativity. He was obviously looking for a fight.
Now the bar. Let me put this disclaimer, I was not dressed up in any way. I wore tennis shoes, blue jeans, and a
hoodie. this might be why I never received service from either of the "bartenders" there. They did attend to all the other guests who were dressed to the 9's. Those guests were obviously flaunting their money, and wanted to be seen and known that they are relevant. I literally sat at the bar, mind you it was early, about 6:15 pm, and I waited for my turn to be served ( I wasn't going to be that asshole demanding service). the "bartenders" did serve the other guests who arrived after i did, and were dressed up. By the time 1 of the "bartenders" approached me, it had been literally 15 minutes. now I understand most people would say, 15 minutes isn't a long time to wait for a drink. But it is obvious that because of how I was dressed, I was not their priority. I even saw other guests looking at me as if I didn't belong. I think I was the only person there with tennis shoes and blue jeans. the only others I saw wearing blue jeans and tennis shoes were some of the comedians that performed.
Now on to the comedy. Again, I went alone, and I was sat at a table with 3 other people. I had no issue with that at all (turned out to be a good table, good people). This, I would give 5 stars. as others have posted, there is no bad seat in the house. All of the comedians that night were "bangers"! The actual comedy was the best I have seen in a minute. it was obvious that these comedians have worked and are perfecting their craft and are professionals. Great crowd work, great sets, it was great!
Let me say this last thing and then I will summarize. the reason I felt like an outcast because of how I was dressed wasn't just because of the looks I got or being ignored at the bar, it was also the fact of all the asshole comments the staff made about me. How do I know? when I went to the bathroom, I would use a stall. again, I stuck out like a sore thumb because of how I was dressed. While I was in the stall, other staff that were "using the bathroom" at the same time as me would make comments about me. It was obvious because they were talking too loud about how I was dressed and how they should "watch me just in case". Mind you, I never spoke to anyone except to say thank. Other than that, I kept to myself and minded my own business.
So, in summary, the club is pretentious as hell!
the door is run well, my only recommendation would be accountability and leadership (it was obvious there was none of that at the door).
Again, this was my first time attending a show here and although the comedy was great, i fear that others have had the same experience as I have but are too scared to write an honest review. I just want regular folks, who truly love comedy, to understand what the ambiance of this club is and how you will be treated because of how you are dressed.
