Food seemed to have a good taste for the most part, but you can tell the ingredients are absolute bottom of the barrel. Now, not everyone would notice that kind of thing, but it made most of my family feel a little nauseous afterwards. It's like they gave a very good chef some Dollar Tree ingredients and hoped for the best. Service was kind and attentive. The building is nice as well as being able to walk around outside during the wait. Pretty difficult to find if you don't know what you're looking for since there's several buildings and nothing that points to where it's at.

I took a small group of volunteers and staff to Comfort Cafe for a volunteer appreciation brunch on Friday and it was just PERFECT! The food was seriously top notch. I wanted to try EVERYTHING. The service was also impeccable! Travis took the best care of our group - even though there were 13 of us - and he had help from Tom on Tom's first day! They were both such a joy! All of the food looked perfect - like it came straight from Instagram. We had a fantastic time in the great old building where we were seated on the second floor - with these huge windows looking out over the beautiful trees. It was like we were in a treehouse. We were busy ogling each others brunch choices and taking pictures of every plate! Their mission is also amazing, and just makes me even more excited to support them! I can't believe it has taken me so long to try them out. Do not make the same mistake that I did. Do NOT SLEEP ON COMFORT CAFE!!! I want to try everything on the menu. BRING CASH!

Hands down the best food I’ve had in a long time. The breakfast potatoes with onions and peppers were cooked to absolute perfection crispy, flavorful, and not overloaded with oil, so the fresh ingredients really shine through. We also ordered the pancakes, and let me just say… they are the BEST PANCAKES in the U.S. Seriously. If there’s a line, don’t even think twice just stay and wait. It’s 100% worth it. You won’t be disappointed.

Well where do I start? We were visiting from Arizona and Georgia and I found this place with amazing reviews. there was about 12 of us and the toes is gonna take about an hour. We were fine with it, but I do recommend you always call ahead for this restaurant. They do have a call in option. It was like an hour and a half and my wife went downstairs to check and it was a different hostess and she said how much longer and the guy looks surprised because he didn’t seem to know anything about us so obviously they forgot about us. Beside us right away after that so after two hours of waiting, we got our food. I will never give anybody less than five stars, but I will tell you exactly what happened. The food was excellent perfect perfection. I would go back. I would just make sure they would not forget about me and I would call her delicious delicious delicious great organization congratulations sometimes we have a little hiccups in our organization and we learn from our mistakes.

It was very crowded, and our waiter Sos was kind enough to let us know that he would take a while to get take our order. The food was good. Pay using the honor system. It is recommended that you pay 5.00 per drink and 15.00 per entrée. 100% of proceeds go to Serenity Star.

Great amazing place to eat at. I love the concept of their establishment. It felt great to eat amazing food and also contribute to a good cause. The staff are nice and friendly. I will definitely always visit this place when we are in town.

Without the amazing mission of this place, it is still amazing! The portions are HUGE and extremely shareable. The breakfast meal I ordered lasted me 3 days. Everything was fresh and homemade. The wait was almost an hour but the nearby trails were a beautiful way to pass the time. They only accept cash, but there was many conveniently placed ATMs.

Another great place to eat in San Antonio, TX. Wonderful team, great tasting food and wonderful atmosphere from the building. Me and my daughters go every Sunday for a Daddy Daughters Day, for breakfast, and we love the attention that the servers, coffee maker, and hostesses give us. Clean bathrooms always have great music playing for wonderful conversation at the table. And I would like to personally thank the cooks and everybody that works behind the scenes for a great meal. The food is wonderful.

They've closed this location now and we go to the one on Bandera. The food is great. The service is great. The cause is great..

Adios Los Patios After 5 years, Comfort Cafe East is closing this beautiful location on the banks for the Salado Creek nestled under the trees. Bandera Rd location will remain open... plus a new endeavor of a bakery and coffee shop opening in that same shopping center on Bandera. Although servers seem to be a little sad about the closure and move, they are also excited about their future. Our last meal last Saturday was just as wonderful as all our other meals. Lone Star breakfast is my go to... 3 eggs, 2 meats of bacon, cheesy hash browns, plus 2 cinnamon roll pancakes. It's a great combo! I'll miss you Comfort Cafe!

As always, Comfort Cafe is top notch for food, service, and ambiance. My best friend and I visited on a Saturday morning. We arrived a few minutes before they opened and were seated immediately. We heard this location will be closing after the July 4th holiday, so we had to grab one last meal here (Note: the Bandera location is still open). I ordered the spinach scramble which came with a side of home fries and a biscuit. My friend got a breakfast plate that came with sausage, bacon, 2 large pancakes, poached eggs, and home fries. All of the ingredients are fresh and you can tell that the food is made with love. Portions are still huge, so we both needed take out boxes. Will definitely make the drive out to the Bandera location since the food & service are totally worth it!

AMAZING!!! The wife wanted brunch for her birthday before church so we decided to check out the Comfort Cafe! We thought we got there early (9am) but the parking lot was already full and started overflowing in other areas. We checked it and ordered a cappuccino and a latte while we waited. Keep in mind this is all by donations and you must use cash. We promptly received our drinks and they were spot and on tasted great. After about 15 minutes, I received the text saying they were ready to seat us. We decided to eat outside in the shaded patio. A server took her order and it wasn't 10 minutes before my blackberry basil crêpes arrived. It was HUGE and delicious! smothered in fresh blackberry's and full of a lemony custard and blackberry jam. I couldn't eat it all and I didn't want to as I had ordered the corn beef hash Plate. Our plates came out soon after. Everything was so delicious! And the plates were very large, so large we had to have three boxes for our leftovers. Keep in mind all meals are cash donations and all for a good cause for the rehabilitation of substance abusers. Who were our serves and I believe our cooks. Needless to say, each plate well well worth every dollar I donated! If you're looking for a great little out of the way place to eat with all proceeds going to a great cause, look no further than the comfort cafe... we will definitely be returning

The hype is real, Comfort Cafe is wonderful. We arrived on a Saturday morning and there was an hour wait, but everyone was happy to wait which tells you something about the food. They have a spacious upstairs and downstairs waiting room and you can order a coffee while you wait. Everyone who works here is kind, and the service is excellent. And the food! I honestly think they have some of the best breakfast in San Antonio. Everything we tried was delicious. The atmosphere is warm and comforting. This is a place that you feel good about eating at, because in addition to great food and service, you are also supporting a good cause.

This restaurant is unique and offers an incredible opportunity to change lives. You must call ahead to be placed on the waitlist--but that's not what makes it special. What sets it apart is that you pay what you think your meal is worth. While this concept is fun, it's not the only reason the restaurant stands out. It operates with a powerful purpose: all donations go toward supporting addiction recovery programs. Give a hand UP! Applaud to the owner for the clever idea! The fine print on the menu suggests a minimum of $15, which is more than fair for the large, filling portions you'll receive--it's almost like someone donated their chef skills! You'll get more than what you pay for and, at the same time, make a difference in the lives of so many. It's a unique dining experience that nourishes both the body and the soul.

Everything about this place screams comfort and a very at home vibe. The service was amazing and everyone is so friendly and willing to help. I got the brunch board and it was so delicious and had a an amazing variety of savory and sweet! I'm so sad about the closure of this location but I am definitely going back to the Leon Valley location! (It's been my 4th time coming here!)

No doubt we are going to miss this excellent place. Beautiful surroundings. Excellent food. Excellent service. Super clean. The floor team very helpful and friendly and is sad to know that this place is closing doors. Good thing is that they have one on Bandera rd not with the beautiful surroundings but they are keeping the high quality food and service with smiles. Because of been is run by donations please dig deeper in your pockets and at least give $20 or more because is for a good cause. !!

I really prefer this location - the surroundings of the retreat highlight nature in such a beautiful way. The vibe is both aesthetically pleasing and wonderfully zen. The service is consistently excellent, and it's always a pleasure to support a business that helps improve lives. The pancakes are a guaranteed win!

Saw the article in Sunday paper the Comfort Cafe was closing this location and wanted to visit one more time. Toured the grounds and took our picture by the one armed guardian angel Ricky was our service guy and he was very personable and friendly. Food was excellent and plan on visiting the Bandara location when in the area.

Get on the waitlist on Yelp at least two hours or more before you want to eat!! There are a few important guidelines you need to know. Such as this restaurant being donation based with a suggestion of $15 per plate and it being cash only.Its a very cozy dinning experience. There is an upstairs waiting area for those who didn't really get in line ahead of time. The food was good but very rich. I would try something more simple next time. All in all it's good food for a great cause.

Went for breakfast and what a great experience. Service was great. The host and the server (Jorge) were extremely friendly and welcoming. Thank you for the cheerful attitude . The food came out super fast-shout out to the cooks. We sat on the second floor -great view. This is a cash only establishment. If you forgot cash, no issue they have ATMs on the first and second floor. Pleas be generous, this restaurant supports a great cause.

Not much I can say. I love this place. Food is always awesome and it's the most requested place when my family comes into town. $15 dollar donation is suggested and it's definitely worth it since the portion sizes always leave you with enough to take home. Servers and always personable and relatable. Haven't had a bad service experience yet. I wanted to keep this one a secret but here we are. Just try for yourself and thank me later.

5 Stars - A Perfect Start to the Day! I can't say enough good things about this place! From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. Our server greeted us with a big smile and made us feel right at home. She was attentive without being overbearing and had great recommendations from the menu. Our drink cups never went empty, and everything came out quickly and exactly as ordered. The food was delicious--fresh, flavorful, and served hot. It's rare to find a place where both the service and the food are equally amazing. This has definitely become my new favorite breakfast spot!

One of my favorites for all the reasons! Good service with great people! Amazing food with even better portions! So much to select from with breakfast to lunch! And stunning too, from the walk up to the surrounding and inside area! Anytime we have people in town this is where we take them and we are never let down! HIGHLY recommend and don't forget your cash!

Cozy ambience, long wait, slow service, good coffee, average food. The food was definitely not worth the wait. I ordered a cafe au laut while waiting. This was pretty good. We waited for more than an hour and a half. After being seated, I opted for a stuffed French toast with blackberries. It was ok. Nothing to rave about. I appreciate their mission but for me it's a one time visit.

Beautiful place, delicious food, and excellent service. Enjoyed a delicious Florentine scramble, while enviously looking at my friend's Bennys. Yes, the food was good. The suggested pay for the meal was $15, but you pay what you can. Walked around in the grounds and enjoying the scenery and shopping in their gift shop.

What a hidden gem!!! Tucked on the campus of Serenity Star, Los Patios, this donation-based restaurant serves up an INCREDIBLE breakfast brunch!!! I had their Crabby Benny (crab cake Benedict) and had to stop myself from inhaling them!! Soooo good with that touch of lemon dill sauce I pretty much ate all of my kiddo's French toast (she was only interested in her strawberries and my breakfast potatoes), and it was perfect!!! Crisp on the outside, soft on the inside...Mmmmmm. All of our food was fresh and wonderfully prepared. I saw the largest, most fabulous yogurt parfait in life at the table next to us. That will be ordered my next visit for sure!! What's really remarkable about this restaurant is that it only accepts donations for the food (minimum $15) as all proceeds go towards funding the Serenity Star residential rehabilitation program. Additionally, the Comfort Cafe employees are members of the SS program, allowing them the opportunity to establish reintegration skills and experiences. I love everything about this and will continue to support this much needed program for our community! Take a visit...you won't be disappointed!!

Go for Café was delicious as always we got Alex as our waitress again and she took very good care of us. Wife came back for the huevos rancheros, and I had the biscuits and gravy and plain French toast. We'd love to come in and support comfort café. And will definitely be back.

Best food in San Antonio by far !! Delicious Benedict's, French toast and eggs with potatoes are absolutely the best!!. The place is very Beautiful and meaningful with river and lots of nature, volunteers working and tables buzzing all the time. Thank you sooo much for everything you do!

What an amazing place! Everyone working there works for donations from patrons. Please be supportive and pay accordingly. The food is always first rate. The service is too. Comfort cafe is one of my favorite places to dine. Even the short walk from car to front door is beautiful.

This place is phenomenal! It's laid back and on a pay what you can basis. The Cafe is a division of SerenityStar - a 501(c)(3) that provides a safe, sober & spiritual environment for individuals & families to recover from addiction. 100% of the proceeds from Comfort Cafe and related endeavors go directly into our program. THEY ARE CASH ONLY! The cafe has indoor and outdoor seating. And the food is delicious! The servings are generous. Beautiful atmosphere! A wonderful experience and great place to take out of town visitors! The service is also spectacular - friendly, warm, and inviting! Caution - they get incredibly busy on the weekends. I suggest going when they open otherwise you're in for a long wait! Enjoy!!

We were a party of eleven. We found a table upstairs and staff added a table to accommodate all of us. Our waiter took our drink orders which were delivered right away. Our waiter was organized taking our food orders. Our food was delivered so quickly (23 minutes) And correctly. A huge improvement over many other restaurants. I had a breakfast special with bacon and rye toast. Everything was delicious and fresh. Some of my table mates had pancakes which were fluffy and huge. Everyone enjoyed are meals and we agreed we would go back. (I rarely give a five star rating as there is always room for improvement).

I'll start with, you must try this place. It can have long lines, but you can reserve a spot in line online. (That's a lot of "lines" but I'm not lying.) I had the sweet potato hash with perfectly poached eggs, which are very difficult to find! I think it was chorizo in there and omg, it was music to my mouth. Sis had the breakfast sandwich which was the size of her head. There was so much food that I enjoyed it for three meals. Coffee is always amazing. Knowing that there's a mission behind this place makes it easy to support, and the food is absolutely delicious. BRING CASH! And save some time to enjoy the beautiful grounds outside.

There are a few locations for this restaurant. This location is one of the 1st if not the 1st. I had heard great things about the food so my husband and i decided to try it. We both learned that it is a non-profit for recovering addicts, which is a great way for the community to help these individuals through their service here. It is cash only fyi and it is donation based. They give a suggested price but ultimately it's up to the guest (please be generous). The food is actually very tasty! I ordered the jalapeño popper omelet and my husband ordered the Reuben sandwich. We shared both and also ordered Oreo stuffed French toast to go! I was very pleasantly surprised at how good the food was and also the service. When you check in the wait line they direct you to a separate room, a coffee bar! Which makes the wait feel shorter because it does get extremely busy fyi! I ordered a pumpkin spice latte and it was really good! We checked in on the waitlist on Yelp on our drive there which I highly recommend! The wait is usually 30 mins to over an hour. The location itself is also beautiful! Greenery and walking trails allaround and a vibrant burnt orange building with native interior decor/aesthetic. They have 2 stories of indoor seating as well as plenty of outdoor seating! Our server Renee took great care of us! Thank you! Highly recommend this place!

This place is one of my top three places to eat at. I know I'll always get great service and delicious food and a lot of it. The place is a descent size but with how popular they are, it needs to be bigger. Don't make the mistake of going on Sundays. We only went because it fell on a birthday but I usually go Fridays. Less crowded. Joking the Yelp waitlist. On Sunday morning it was a 2.5 hour waitlist time and when we arrived, we waited another 45 minutes but we also Had a group of 13. So I know that made us wait longer. The food is always worth it, it's so dang good. The service is always friendly and I love that over the years I see a lot of the same familiar faces. Georgè is my fave. He's so patient with our orders and informative and has great recommendations. He's just such a pleasure. And to top it off, the cause. I can't help but want to support this wonderful and thoughtful cause. I think that everyone is amazing and I love coming back.

We arrived 15 minutes after they opened on a Sunday morning so we were seated right away. One worker brought us drinks and then our main server stopped by shortly after to explain things to us, answer questions, and take our order. He was so nice and friendly and took great care of us! He made conversation, gave recommendations, and brought us anything we needed. Our food came out quickly as well! PRICING - As mentioned, it's cash only and donation-based so there are not set prices for menu items. The recommendation is a minimal donation of $5 per item at Java Junkies and $15 per entree but obviously you can pay what you can or what you think is fair. I paid $10 for two drinks from Java Junkies and then left $100 for 3 entrees because I was so impressed with the food and service. PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE STUFFED FRENCH TOAST (10/10) - This was a special for the day... it was as decadent as it sounds and looks! The portion size is MASSIVE, the French toast is thick and soft, and there are plenty of toppings with the chocolate and peanut butter drizzles, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, whipped cream, and powdered sugar. I would order this again! ALAMO BENNY (10/10) - This had so many elements and they were all delicious! The English muffin was toasted perfectly, the bacon, ham, and sausage were each thick and incredibly flavorful, the eggs were perfectly poached, and the chipotle hollandaise on top was creamy and delicious! It comes with a side of potatoes and we were able to swap out the hash brown casserole which was packed with shredded potatoes and cheese and then topped with crispy bacon pieces. I would order this again! BISCUITS AND SAUSAGE GRAVY (9/10) - Again, a massive portion and every bite is incredible! The two biscuits were super soft and the perfect texture, especially when smothered in enough sausage gravy to bathe in! The gravy was seasoned well, but I would have loved more or larger pieces of sausage crumbles (but then again, I had MORE than enough food as part of this meal). This was my first time visiting Comfort Cafe but it will be my new staple breakfast spot whenever I visit San Antonio! I absolutely love what they're doing to help the community and will send everyone I know their way to support them and get some delicious food in the process!

Comfort Cafe is a 501c3 cafe located in the beautiful and serene Los Patios area. Once you enter Los Patios you'll have a nice 1 minute drive towards the back where the businesses are located. There's plenty of parking in the parking lot and you'll have to walk the sidewalk path to the back where Comfort Cafe sets. The walk to the building and the building itself is beautifully set in the middle of trees, plants and decor. Upon entering it feels like a huge enclosed gazebo. I was seated promptly and provided a menu with lots of delicious options. Please be aware that this is a cash only establishment but if you forget or don't have cash there is an ATM upstairs. Also, there are no prices on the menu as this place is run by the people who are in the recovery programs and pay is "what you feel it's worth". What I love about this is that the profits made after all bills are paid go towards the recovery program (as I understood). I ordered my food and the portions are huge and the taste is delicious! As I was leaving I wandered over and discovered they also have a coffee and espresso bar! So I will definitely be returning to try that out. If you're in the area go try it out and support those in the recovery program.

I'm very surprised by the extraordinarily high rating this restaurant has... Firstly, the restaurant is based on a "pay what you can" price model and gives back to a great nonprofit to help those recovering. I think this is really special and I love that every meal paid for goes back to a great cause. The staff and our server were amazing! That said, the food in my opinion was only okay. It did take quite some time to be served and some plates came out cold while others came out hot... I ordered the Sammy Benny but did not like the hollandaise sauce accompanied. My sister found a hair in her french toast so unfortunately she did not continue eating after that. The pancakes were very good however and I was told the burger was good as well. We waited 2 hours to be seated which was honestly awful. The Yelp app lets you check in online before you arrive so I highly suggest that.

I love Comfort Cafe at Los Patios. I'd come more often except for 3 things and these are why I only gave 4 stars: 1. It is a little difficult to get a wheelchair into the restaurant. 2. They don't take credit cards ( or didn't last time we were there), and 3. They have limited hours. They are not open for supper. But they are a nonprofit to help addicts, the food is great, service is great and it is the only place I know where there are no published prices. You just pay whatever you think is fair.

The food is so so good. One of the best restaurants in my opinion here in San Antonio.

Finally, we tried this place and it was outstanding, the food is so delicious and plentiful, not to mention the presentation on some plates around us, the ambiance is so chill, the wall art is fun and very cool, can't wait to go back to try other items on the menu, and take cash/checks as they do not accept cards, and I love the playlist

Yall have to check out this cool spot, it's a great place to support through their 501c charity! Make sure to get on the waiting list because it gets busy quick! But if you don't, experience the picturesque walking trails or unwind in the comfortable waiting area and browse the unique gift shop. They have a great little coffee shop with plenty of choices. They also have a little waiting area with games to entertain you if you like. I had the Huevos Ranchero - spice breakfast potatoes, onions, peppers, and cilantro cooked in our homemade salsa topped with two fried eggs and cheddar cheese, a flour tortilla served with a side of black beans! So tasty and full of flavor. My wife had the special, the French Toast with bacon and peanut butter! The bread is thick and perfectly toasted! My son had the Texas Heat Burger bacon, cheddar, jalapenos, and l southwestern mayo! He loved it! He got a side of baked potatoes soup, and it was great too! This place had it all - atmosphere, great service, and amazing food! It is a must try! Bring cash they don't take cards. It all donation based. Well worth every penny donated to an amazing cause!

Comfort cafe is nestled back in Los Patios. Parking isn't too bad but it will take some maneuvering to find a spot. It's a nice area to relax outside while you wait to be seated. Yes, we all know Comfort Cafe gets busy and the wait, well in my opinion it's worth it. Mind you, it can be up to 2 hours so yeah. Comfort cafe has amazing food and it's made from scratch, not many places offer that anymore. Go hungry because you will definitely leave full. Mind you, prices are based on donations, that's right, donations! Pay what you feel the food is worth....but there's a caveat, the mission of Comfort cafe. Comfort cafe hires people who are taking back their lives, starting a new journey into making a better life for themselves. This is why I love eating here, no matter the wait. So yes, pay what you feel the food is worth but don't just open your wallet, open your hearts and give more. Give to the mission as well. We all have made choices in life, some good, some bad. Let's make a good one by supporting their mission and enjoying amazing food.

This place was amazing, ran by a nonprofit of beautiful people. Bright smiles and good energy from the staff, a beautiful road past recovery! This place is donation based although has a suggested price for the meals. I suggest being generous because it all goes to a good cause. The food was delicious and the service was polite and full of good vibes. Our server Renee was kind and informative, really took the time to explain the beauty of the restaurant. I had the Reuben and would definitely get it again although there are to many delicious items I need to try. The decor and set up of the place tells a story and it's worth the time getting to know it. I highly recommend coming here for more than the food, if you do make sure to place your name on the waiting list as it gets busy and for a good reason.

To say Comfort Cafe is goated would be an understatement. Literally everything we had was so good, I opted for the cinnamon roll pancakes and it was everything. We also tried the cheesy hash brown casserole and potatoes which were soooo yum. The service was amazing and just the fact that everything goes back to helping people and their sobriety program makes me want to come back asap. Can't recommend this place enough!

Location, location, location. Fantastic place with great food and great service. Family friendly and worth returning to with many food options. I have never left hungry. The location of this cafe was absolutely adorable. The inside was just as beautiful. Long wait time was expected but joining the waitlist, made an easy walk in. The coffee bar, as well as the restaurant is paid you can. But tips and convenient fees are accepted. This is also a cash only restaurant. Service was great, it was very busy for Sunday brunch but they did a wonderful job. Coffee took longer to received then our food took to come out. Food was so flavorful. Love the peppers and onions with the red potato. The pancakes were so fluffy and fulfilling!

The food was AMAZING!!! Service was fine, but it's understandable bc they were super busy and only had like three waiters. However, all the staff were great, super sweet, and they tried their best to help everyone! The wait time was crazy! We waited 55 mins but the location made the wait go by fast bc we walked around. They also opened a yogurt/oatmeal/quick breakfast spot near by that was really good so we used it as an appetizer while we waited. It was a good experience, I would 100% recommend going!!!

The portions are absolutely enough for 2 and the way everything was seasoned and tasted so good! But the best part is how friendly the staff is and how the place runs to keep helping others struggling with addiction! The way these people are so appreciative of wanting to make sure it keeps going! I love the cause!!!

The wait is obviously ridiculous but I think if you go here often, you already know that. I usually check in here on Yelp a few hours before. I have been here a few times and everything is always great, as well as the food. This weekend we went and got sat down and the waiter took a while to come to us so the host guy came and we asked for waters but didn't get them. Another table sat down next to us and they were helped before us. Not sure what was up with that. I understand that they are busy but at least acknowledge people. I have not tried the other location so maybe we will try that one. The food was great and the place is nice, we love the location.
