Chill, city vibes. Drinks are amazing. Baristas put a lot of care into each drink. I recommend their ube latte and matcha. Seasonal menu is absolutely phenomenal as well. Have been obsessed with their Blossom Baby matcha.

Google
One of the best places to get curated coffee and their menu has few seasonal options and their all year around menu! Drinks and Food: Their curations are lovely and they always deliver on taste. My favourite for quite a long time is pineapple ube. Also their seasonal menu is fantastic and our current favourite is Earl Grey latte. The must just have is coffee cake! You should for sure get that and try it out! Service: The service is great and on point. Weekends are super busy but overall weekdays are decently busy too! Atmosphere: Quite warm and lovely! It’s never too loud not too quiet. Great for working or just a coffee date

All types of coffee here are on a different level. From their cold brew to their specials (especially the Espresso Cola). Also, they’re one of the few in Indy that have pour over coffee! The barber’s are great at what they do. I got a haircut with Bobby, and got exactly what I wanted and maybe even better! Would definitely recommend getting coffee here and a haircut with Bobby.

The vanilla Oat milk latte is hands down the best coffee I've ever had. So basic but done as an art. The orange peel garnish adds a level to the senses as well as a new element if the oils are squeezed into the cup. Highly recommend.

Probably my favorite cortado in the city. Great staff, plus they put on live shows throughout the month. -EspressoTech Service Co.

Commissary Barber and Barista — A Cut Above, With a Perfect Cup to Match Commissary Barber and Barista isn’t just a place to get a haircut — it’s a full-on experience that blends style, hospitality, and seriously good coffee into one beautifully curated, but seperated, space. Barber Side: The service here is consistently excellent. Every stylist is not only highly skilled but also genuinely friendly and clearly passionate about their craft. As I waited for my cut, I noticed how sharp everyone looked walking out — it’s like the whole shop runs on good taste and good vibes. The team makes you feel welcome, whether you’re a first-timer or a monthly regular like me. I always leave feeling refreshed and looking my best. Coffee Side: And then there’s the coffee — wow. The Bourbon Salted Caramel Latte is a standout, rich and smooth with just the right touch of indulgence. The baristas are just as warm and attentive as the stylists, and the café side is thoughtfully designed for comfort. I love grabbing a seat by the window, sipping my drink, and watching the world go by. It’s the kind of place that invites you to linger — whether you’re catching up with a friend or just enjoying a quiet moment to yourself. Final Word: Commissary is the rare gem that gets everything right. Whether you’re coming for the cut, the coffee, or the calm, you’ll leave feeling better than when you arrived. Stylish, soulful, and effortlessly cool — this place is a monthly must for me.

I came in with medium length curly hair ~5+inches After I told Jesse how wanted my hair cut, keep its shape but clean it up over the ears, keep it so I can do a middle part, keep most of the length. The entire time, he acknowledged what I was saying. He proceeded to cut almost all of my hair off. The entire shape is gone. He cut my sides and back down to less than an inch and left an inch and a half on the top. I was clearly disappointed when he turned me to the mirror he immediately got very defensive and aggressive telling me that he couldn’t cut it the way I wanted because I have too many cowlicks (something that I may have but has never been mentioned as an issue by any barber in the past.) I don’t understand that logic at all. If he didn’t feel capable of cutting my hair the way we discussed why would cutting all of it off be the next best option? He clearly just messed up and just did whatever he felt like instead of what I communicated to him and wasn’t able to take accountability and apologize. Reflecting on what happened to see if there was something I could have done or said that could have been misconstrued to anything close to what I received and I truly don’t know how I could have been clearer about what I was asking for. I am very disappointed in the haircut and perhaps more so in the lack of professionalism and craftsmanship that Jesse displayed. Too bad the cut didn't come with a hat.

Google
This place just nails it. I can be a bit picky with my pour overs, but so are they, so…😉. If you’re really into coffee and have your own brew system at home, I had great conversation with the staff and learned a lot from them, so don’t hesitate to strike up conversation! They clearly care about what they do and it will translate to your cup!

Yelp
Been here before but never left a review. Always a pleasant experience and a chill busy small spot but it's a fun little place. Today we stopped in and my son got a vegan coffee cake and I ordered the pineapple matcha. Definitely both good delicious choices! I've had the pineapple ube before this visit and I recall it was delightful so I figured I'd try something else with the pineapple...really great choice and in this heat it was absolutely refreshing! No coffee cake photo because we devoured it before we thought about a picture, but it was definitely one good piece of coffee cake! Friendly staff and apologetic for being busy but they're working and staying on top of things as best as they can so can't be upset about that. I appreciate their hard work and dedication. Great place, get the pineapple matcha!

Yelp
This place is in a wild spot, and you have to go downstairs to find the door to the location. It's worth the search however, as I felt these were some of the most interesting drinks I've had in a while. The coffee shop itself is next to and part of the barbershop next door, and the inside is elegant looking with a few tables and some booths for customers to sit in. I went to this coffee twice while I was in Indianapolis attending Gen con and both times I enjoyed my drink. The first time I got the pale corsair which is a coconut topped coffee beverage with rum syrup. I found it to be a bit too sweet for my taste, but it's possible I should have stirred it up a bit more to mix the coffee and the topper. The second time I went I got the Kyoto matcha, and I found this to be just a little less flavorful than I would usually prefer. There are several beverage offerings here, so while there seem to be some mainstays it also looks like they roll new stuff in and out to keep things interesting. I would recommend this shop, my complaints are minor and I will definitely be going back. One thing that really impressed me was watching the baristas work behind the bar - it's like watching artists at work truly and they often were reaching for real ingredients which is a great sign of quality.

Yelp
Always love popping in here to grab a late, feels like I'm in Brooklyn! Lattes are solid, the baked items are amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
Adore this place! My first experience was a silent disco party in the evening, only to be even more impressed by the coffee shop during the day! How fun! Great space with exposed brick down one floor, makes me feel like i'm in NYC- but with a great view of Indy. My rose matcha was killeerrr

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee shop in Indy! Never had a bad latte! I also HIGHLY recommend the vegan coffee cake-it's so addicting

Yelp
I will never get tired of recommending this place . their pineapple ube is the best we have tried so far in the stats . they are super friendly and the atmosphere is super chill . we go with our daughters and never have issues . we drive 45 min just to have coffee there , if that doesn't tell you how amazing it is , I don't know what will !

Yelp
5 stars for both the drinks and the beard trim. Beard trim - the best beard trim my husband has ever gotten. Crisp lines, hot towel, my husband looked delicious afterwards. Drinks - the pandan latte - perfection. The lattes look like craft cocktails. The pandan was nutty, vanilla bean y, espresso, comfort. The pineapple ube was also very good. Ambiance - hipster and cool. Has a speakeasy feel while being a coffee and barber shop. A must stop any time we go to Indianapolis

Yelp
This place deserves 5/5 for its outstanding service and hospitality; very warm and loving people! I visited this place with my dad on my recent trip to Indianapolis. It is located in the downtown neighborhood. We tried a Pineapple Ube Latte and a Vegan Burrito. The burrito honestly tasted more like a Veggie puff but no complaints! We liked it irrespective. The Pineapple Ube Latte was an interesting combination as well. I enjoyed the slight tart pineapple flavor in my coffee along with sweet ube. Visit this place if you're in the neighborhood!
google avatar

Courtney L.

Yelp
The pandan latte was actually so flavorful with the pandan flavor. I was pleasantly surprised. Would definitely recommend this place, no other has made such a unique latte. Decent study space but not many tables for seating.

Yelp
I love stopping by commissary barista to grab a quick coffee before I get my haircut at the barber next-door. My drink is always delicious and Nick makes me look fly.

Yelp
I've been to Commissary several times and their iced ube latte is my go-to; I was surprised to realize I've never written them a review! Indy has several coffee shops with ube lattes; however, I firmly believe Commissary is the best. First off, their ube latte doesn't taste artificially flavored (I believe they use Salamat Cookies' ube syrup, another Indy-based company I adore). They also add an orange garnish that elevates the ube flavor and gives a coffee drink a refreshing take. I also love how you can adjust the sweetness level - I always ask for 50% sweetness (not a big fan of lattes that taste like candy). I also tried their croissant which was soft pillow-y buttery goodness. It wasn't stale and perfectly paired with my latte.
google avatar

Tyler R.

Yelp
Best overall haircut experience and cappuccino in the city. Hands down, no question. Instant regular.
google avatar

Yelp
If I lived downtown I would buy from here everyday. One side is a barbershop (never been but need to check out) the other side is the coffee shop. The space is small but still enough seating to find. It's very much brick and mortar style with open brick wall and industrial style. It's in the basement of a building kinda underground vibes. But the coffee is so creative and good! Literally everything I've tried even down to a simple vanilla latte they go the extra mile to add orange peal juice and grate some on top for a hint of orange flavor and it's quite literally life changing.
google avatar

Yelp
While traveling to Indianapolis for a patient advocacy forum, I looked in the mirror and yikes! I needed a haircut bad...I found Commissary Barber on Yelp. They had great reviews and a cool rock vibe for perfect for the brick accented building. Check them out on Yelp! You can reserve a cut on their app and check-in when available. Check them out.

Yelp
I love this cozy coffee shop, and it was one of my favorites when we lived downtown. You step down a staircase to enter, and you're immediately greeted with lots of urban charm. They always have a seasonal menu and their staples. I love trying their seasonal drinks as they never are overtly sweet. I usually take my latte to go, as the seating is limited. A lot of people like to work here so tables don't turn quickly making it hard to enjoy your drink or food without taking it to go. They usually have some bakery items, and this time I tried a bagel sandwich with sidedoor bagels.

Yelp
This coffee shop is beautiful. Great music playing and multiple people enjoying their coffees and reading or working. I had the Cafe De Olla- SO GOOD. This espresso based drink had hints of brown sugar, cinnamon and cloves. It was well balanced and delicious. I wish there were more in my mug.
google avatar

Ciarra E.

Yelp
I purchased a vanilla latte from the batista part of the commissary shop and it was delic!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is great for good coffee, creative lattes, and delicious snacks. It has a good vibe, and beautiful wallpaper that I'm so tempted to put up in my home. Vegan + dog friendly also!
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
We were directed here by a local who said they had the best coffee in town. They weren't lying! We loved the decor in this place, with the cool wallpaper, exposed brick and funky (in a good way!) bathrooms. Being downstairs gives it a speakeasy style, and they had info about it having a bar menu at night. We got a cold brew and 2 Earl Grey lattes with oat milk. They were great! The lattes include a twist of lemon peel, which sounds minor, but is an amazing addition to the drink! We look forward to stopping in on our next trip through Indy!
google avatar

Monica H.

Yelp
While my husband gets his haircut, I get to sip on a delightful cortado. We love the friendly vibe and delicious coffee at Commissary.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious vanilla latte. Very cute location, nice service. Not to mention the salted chocolate chip cookie was divine!!!!!
google avatar

Katie B.

Yelp
Great place for delicious coffee! They have unique seasonal drinks as well as a solid menu year round. Baristas add style and flare to the drinks. The atmosphere and decor are cozy and stylish. Paid parking is usually available and find a spot is usually not an issue. I also noticed that it's extremely clean and the bathrooms are easily accessed in store. We enjoyed our drinks and have had baked goods from here previously that were delicious!
google avatar

Sujal M.

Yelp
The Commissary is an experience. You go down the stairs and come across a small cafe with people working on their laptops in quiet, exposed brick, cool wallpaper print, and a minimalist menu. Their highlight is the pineapple Ube latte. We also got a Kyoto matcha latte. I would rate the ube latte 4.7/5.0 for its unique flavor profile. The Kyoto latte was maybe a 4. Just wasn't sweet enough for me.
google avatar

Brady R.

Yelp
Walk by this place and peep in from the sidewalk on my walk to/from work. Decided to stop in for the first time in years. Not much has changed, but the drinks and vibes are still cozy and good. This place is quite small, so be prepared to not have a spot to sit as the seating is limited. People seem to like coworking and meeting here, so they seem to linger awhile. I went with a rooibos latte with oat meal. It was full of cinnamon and other chai flavors. It was incredible. Staff was friendly and helpful. One thing is I wish it was an accessible space for my friends with disabilities.
google avatar

Fatima G.

Yelp
Who would think a barber and barista are even a combo? Walk into the basement, and you instantly see bare brick works better with a 'raw' contemporary look. A very casual set up where both drinks and coffee are served - so win win. The americano (8oz) was world class but the highlight was the orange cranberry cake. Soft, delicious, hints of cranberry tartness and overall sheer goodness. There's a variety of teas and lattes plus some vegan muffins too. Also a full espresso bar, pour over bar, beer, wine and local offerings. The coffee bar features locally roasted beans brewed into traditional and seasonal menu options. I found street parking right in front of commissary but I got in at 8am. There is sufficient public parking right opposite to the barber and coffee shop.
google avatar

Sara B.

Yelp
While the coffee menu isn't extensive what they do offer is great! What a cool vibe underground (but with windows). We loved the vibe here. I tried the Pineapple Ube Latte as recommended by the barista. It was subtly sweet, I enjoyed it. Cost was fair. Location was nice, maybe a little challenging for parking if you aren't familiar with the area. Only negative was it's not wheelchair accessible. There are only steps down. I asked an employee if there was a ramp or elevator but they said no. I know it's an old space but hopefully they can work on that!
google avatar

Faren J.

Yelp
Whenever I need a delicious beverage and a nice vibe to work, I head to Commissary. The staff is always friendly and provides great recommendations. Today I had the seasonal Apple cider rosemary latte with oat milk. It smelled absolutely divine and tasted heavenly. My year round go to is the ube latte. If you haven't had it, make your way there to try it now!
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
Orders: Apple Cider Rosemary Oatmilk Latte | Vanilla Oatmilk Latte This place is an underground gemmmm!!! Our drinks were beautiful, atmosphere is cozy and cool & the barista was rad!!!! I can't speak to getting a buzz cut, but as for the coffee - highly recommend!! Thank youuuu!!!!
google avatar

Hannah L.

Yelp
Coffee here is top notch. The baristas care about the quality of the coffee and the shots they pull and it shows through in the taste. I tried their seasonal apple cider rosemary latte and it was like a savory caramel apple in a cup. Absolutely delicious!
google avatar

Emm M.

Yelp
The barista part of this combination place is amazing. It's kind of hidden right in plain sight on Mass Ave. It's a small spot. I got a cinnamon latte and it was very good. Very aesthetic too. I also got some lemon poppy loaf, which was also pretty good. The service was quick. This is a nice place to get a morning coffee and sit and read the news or something. I'll probably be back to check out their cocktails someday!
google avatar

Ashlyn W.

Yelp
Whenever my husband gets his haircut, I always go with him to commissary to hang out and grab a coffee (and often a pastry). This little spot has such a great atmosphere and such kind people. When I come I normally get the Masala Chai, hot or iced and it's honestly my favorite chai in Indianapolis.
google avatar

Caitlin W.

Yelp
Top notch coffee, welcoming warm and cozy space with brick walls, and beautiful latte art.
google avatar

Lizz M.

Yelp
After hearing nothing but good things I finally made it! If it weren't for the sign outside I'd be lost. It's easy to get to right in New York st., behind needlers grocery plaza. The inside has a contemporary vibe and the brick walls add a nice aesthetic. Their coffee or liquid gold was the perfect balance of robust and aromatic, with the right hint of sweetness.
google avatar

Katheryn E.

Yelp
Finally got to try to spot out. I went for the Pineapple ube latte. I had it iced with oat milk. I love the consistency of the flavor, it lasted through every sip until I finished my drink. The shop is a quaint space, small but very functional. I'll be there again with my next coffee with friends!
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
This place is a awesome. When you pass by, you'll think the sign is a typo. Coffee and beer? Not a typo. Awesome. It's definitely got a hipster vibe. They have old style in cans! The barista/ bartender could have upsold me to an IPA but instead recommended old style as her go-to. I respect any person who works for tips yet tells you their honest opinion instead of just the most expensive thing. I had some light convo with some of the people hanging out and it was a really cool bunch. Come here if you want a hipster speakeasy vibe.
google avatar

Hannah J.

Yelp
FAVORITE coffee shop in Indy! I absolutely adore this place. Their lattes are unmatched! I love the vanilla latte, the pan Dan, and the pineapple ube drinks. Just so incredible. They put an orange (or other fruit) rind on the drinks which gives it such a refreshing scent with each sip! I also like getting their bagels (not gluten free) or gluten free muffins. I know the location also has cocktails but I've never tired any. Their location is smaller and so cozy, and such a nice place to visit with a friend, study, read. I love their logo and the wall paper on the wall is so cool. The coffee shop is connected to the barber shop as well! And this is where my husband gets a straight razor shave for special occasions.
google avatar

Nidhi P.

Yelp
Talk about a top tier coffee shop! Commissary is one of my all-time favorite coffee shops in DT Indy. They offer multiple lattes, matchas, and their seasonal drinks never disappoint! My personal favorites have been their iced Pineapple Ube Latte and hot Apple Cider Rosemary Latte(fall 2023 season drink). None of their drinks are too sweet, but have the perfect flavors within. It's 1/2 barber shop, 1/2 coffee/cocktails. I've got my eyes on coming back in the evening for their cocktails!
google avatar

Luke W.

Yelp
Exquisite caffeine skills and beautiful atmosphere, slightly small indoors but well crafted hipster open brick and modern vibes. It is easy to enjoy the nicely placed outdoor seating if not overrun with other brew sipping addicts; my sister seems to place Commissary at the top of her Indy options which after trying their pineapple ube latte I can easily agree. There are few barista heavens like this, Zion in Peoria, IL, Indie Coffee in Carmel, and Lucky in Detroit, the heightened and well verses bean brewers who know their stuff and craft java in dreamy ways. Have sampled three drinks so far off the rotating seasonal menu, the pistachio is a quick second. I am getting a wealthy and murky sensation from the beverages. It's a unique barista pour for sure; the consistency is all star, location in the smart side of downtown, and staff is friendly and well trained in the espresso arts.
google avatar

Destiny H.

Yelp
Pineapple Ube is such an interesting combination, and definitely a blast of flavorful goodness in a cup.

Kylee K.

Yelp
Best coffee in Indianapolis! I drive out of my way to go here. You can work or study here as well
google avatar

Abby M.

Yelp
One of my favorite coffee shops in Indy. The interior is so pretty and a great space to get work done. My favorite drink is the iced bold Marsala chai. It's one of the best Chai lattes around!
google avatar

Ethan Z.

Yelp
This was my first ever trip to Commissary and it will most definitely not be my last. Their creative coffees and awesome ambiance are just a few things that made me love this place. My sister-in-law and I went them a couple weeks back and we just had to try the Pineapple Ube Latte - I got it with oatmilk and it was DELICIOUS! The way the drink looks is good enough to make it taste good - but then when you try it... IT SOMEHOW GETS BETTER! It was the perfect combination of espresso with sweetness to create a well balanced drink! The morning we went, they were also hosting a bagel pop-up shop (Sidedoor Bagel... a definite must try!)- I love seeing local Indy businesses helping each other out - especially during the time of COVID. I will most definitely be going back to Commissary to try out their other latte flavors. I noticed that they had a pistachio latte and and a lavender latte and I am so excited to go back and try it! If I lived closer then they would get all of my morning coffee business. Overall they have a great location, great ambiance and an awesome vibe!
google avatar

Seth M.

Yelp
Commissary is one of the best coffee shops in Indy. Their menu, ingredients, location, and service are all top tier.

Yelp
Raspberry lemonade iced latte! So good! Cute little place and loved that it's a bit underground. Workers were nice and friendly!
google avatar

Maissie V.

Yelp
The best latte I've ever had! I got a iced vanilla latte with oat milk and it was very smooth and tasty. The barista added a squeezed lemon peel to the top which gave it a very refreshing smell every time I took a sip. The latte was reasonably priced as well. Overall, great experience!
google avatar

Lexie G.

Yelp
Stopped in on Sunday morning for a coffee as my wife hadn't been here before. From the moment she saw the Black Lives Matter poster in the window, she knew she was going to like this place! There was a bit of a line (it was 10:30 am) but the wonderful baristas kept it moving pretty quickly. Plus, there are so many plants and things to look at while you wait that you don't really mind. I ordered the Pineapple Ube (purple yam) latte, iced and it was delicious! My wife ordered the Rosemary Rhubarb Espresso Tonic and really liked it. Both drinks were so refreshing! We can't wait to go back and try more of their unique beverages!
google avatar

Cassandra S.

Yelp
Love this spot! I finally got to check it out last week and had a killer cortado. Cool baristas and they have side door bagels too. I want to go back at night and check out the cocktails. Love the decor and the presentation.
google avatar

Taylor W.

Yelp
Cute little meet up spot. The staff is super friendly and the coffee is very delicious!!

Yelp
One of the cooler coffee shop locations I've visited in Indy, there is such a unique vibe. My friend and J came in on the weekend to work on school work, and it was so fun being able to watch the foot traffic go by! Coffee was great, and the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about everything.
