Best New Restaurants in Wilmington, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Located in the vibrant Brooklyn Arts District, Commodore is part cocktail bar and part local dive, with a menu that could best be described as punk-meets-stoner-meets-taqueria-meets-deli. The massive albondigas come in a sofrito birria sauce; the Rusty Ryan sandwich consists of grilled skirt steak, provolone, garlic mayo, and a fried egg; and the cheesesteak chimichangas will satisfy even the most die-hard Philly natives. Belly up to the bar on a Wednesday for $10 cocktails and wash it down with a plate of Mid Rats — crinkle fries loaded with mojo pork, Cheese Wiz, chimichurri sauce, shredded lettuce, and poblano ranch — nachos are so yesterday." - Matt Lardie

All of 2019’s D.C. Restaurant Closures | Eater DC

Commodore Bar and Restaurant With Huge Burgers Closing in Logan Circle | Eater DC

"I learned that the Commodore Public House and Kitchen, which comforted Logan Circle regulars with creative burgers, Southern barbecue, and $10 cocktails, will close next week after three years of business because the owners could not reach a new lease agreement. The management team at Proof Hospitality shared the news in a statement published by Washington City Paper and the Hungry Lobbyist blog, sent from culinary director Travis Weiss; Weiss notes that the venue—which took over from the Veranda Greek restaurant—has hosted baby showers, engagements, thousands of Tinder dates, and even a visit from the Stanley Cup after the Washington Capitals' 2018 championship. The last day to order signature items like pulled pork totchos or the pimento cheese–topped fried chicken sandwich is Saturday, November 30, and Weiss writes that the team will "forever be indebted" to the relationships they created there." - Gabe Hiatt

Google
One of the best spots in Wilmington! The food is outstanding, the owner is awesome and was super helpful and friendly. The French dip sandwich is out of this world and super unique, not your normal French dip! The savage was one of the best fried chicken sandwiches my husband and I have had. Everything you want in a chicken sandwich🤤 The Mac n cheese was incredible as well as the north 4th salad and the tostones!!! Don’t pass these up. Can’t wait to come back! There is only one booth so if you have more than a few people, go early or there is bar seating and small table seating as well.

This is a wonderful place for a bite to eat and great drinks. The food is always tasty and fresh. The salad had crispy greens that held up well to the mezcal vinaigrette. I added fried chicken that was crispy but light and went well with the tobacco onions. It was large but perfect for dinner. The albondingas meatballs were huge and served with a pretty spicy tomato sauce and lots of garlic bread to sop it up with. Service is always good and the chef knows what he is doing. Always worth a stop in the Brooklyn Arts District.

Google
The chicken sandwich was breaded and cooked perfectly, mac and cheese was creamy, and the meatball app was to die for, perfect amount of saucy and spicy. Super amazing place! One of the top in Wilmington and I’ve eaten all over town recently. Cozy atmosphere too!

Google
Had the hot honey wings, the abondigas and the Cuban sandwich. The food was really good as was the service! They were busy because of the triathlon and the food was a little slow getting out to us, but WELL worth the wait.

Google
Hands down the BEST French dip I've ever had. If you asked my wife about me and that sandwich, she'd tell you I say it's hard for me to rate one above a 3 of 5. If it were mathematically possible, I'd give this one a 7 of 5! Wife got the chimi. She loved it! On top of this, the owner served our great country and is a veteran. God bless the USA 🇺🇸 This is a hidden gem and the best Wilmington has to offer for food. You won't be disappointed.

Google
Honestly one of the best meals I’ve had out in a while! All thanks to Chef Kendal. This man is from New Orleans and you can tell by his wonderful food and personality. We started off with the wings. We ordered regular buffalo flavor with pablano ranch… Damn they were some of the best wings I’ve had in the state. They were Smokey, crispy, juicy and delicious! We ordered burgers, sandwiches, collard greens and everything was delicious. The drinks were all phenomenal as well. Kaitlyn took great care of us. This place is small like an upscale dive bar really great decor/atmosphere. There was 6 of us and we sat at the bar. I wouldn’t say this place is for big parties but definitely a great date night or somewhere to go to grab a great meal and drink. We will be back!

Google
Great neighborhood spot. We had late lunch at the bar. We received excellent service from David, our bartender. The Savage chicken sandwich & the steak& cheese chimichanga were very good. They also have outdoor seating. The place must good because the mayor came in for lunch while we were there. We will be back.

Google
Really great pub in cozy Brooklyn Arts District. Small neighborhood feel with great service and reasonable prices. Really great hazy IPA on draft. I'm not super familiar with Cuban food but I was expecting more flavor. I had The Savage chicken sandwich with poblano sauce but it was super mild and tasted more like regular ranch. We will be back to try some other items.

Yelp
We were really impressed with the food. I got the beachcomber and my husband got the big tyme. Both were heavy on the sauces, but overall really delicious and unique. The Mac and cheese was also great. I was really impressed when the chef came around to check on everyone's food. The atmosphere is more oriented toward a bar. There are a few tables that are best for 2-4 people. We'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Amazing food, lovely people! We had the wings and the Carl B burger. Even the fries were cooked perfectly.

Yelp
We just stumbled in here looking for lunch and wow, glad we did. This is a relatively new establishment, located on 4th street in the Brooklyn Arts District. Street parking only on this side of town. It's a full bar with food. Burgers, sandwiches, and appetizers. Local beer on tap, cocktail menu along with other drink options. Highly recommend the Carl B burger. Sides are great. Large bar area to sit, along with other seating. Place looks great inside. Service is at the bar, at least when I was there. The bartenders were very professional. Highly recommend.

Yelp
We heard that Commodore had a Tuesday night special for $12 sandwiches so we decided to come try it out. There were these delicious-sounding meatballs on the appetizer side of things so we ordered those. Literally, changed my boyfriend's life- they are his favorite meatballs on the plant now, he talks about them all the time. They're huge and cooked in birria sauce with cheese on top. Sooooo tasty!!! For our meal we had the Rusty Ryan and the La Flama Blanca- both were very very tasty, and very filling. We have gone back and enjoyed everything we've had there. We also tried the cherry coke drink- the cherries are marinated as well and are so good!

Yelp
Located next to the kitchen sink. Free street parking if you're lucky. Hours are not set in stone yet but they open at 4 PM this week. Eventually, they will allow food ordering online and have outdoor seating. Right now only limited indoor seating (three 2 seater bar top tables) plus seating at the bar and window. All of the burgers and sandwiches come with a side. Ordered the neon smash burger with sweet boniato (Cuban sweet potato) fries, and the ravenous pig sandwich with Tostones. They were both good. The neon smash comes with two smash patties, cheddar cheese, sweet bacon jam, pickled onions, garlic pickles, comeback (mayo and horseradish) and hoisin sauce in a potato bun. They didn't put too much of the sauces so the comeback and hoisin flavors were not that strong. The ravenous pig comes with Masitas de puerco, cheese wiz, wasakaka (like chimichurri), tobacco onion (fried breaded onion) in a soft Cuban roll. Tostones and fries were both crispy. Cuban sweet potato is not that sweet compared to the American sweet potato. Definitely would come back again !

Yelp
Always excellent cocktails and sandwiches here. Twice in over the last two months, both times completely satisfied with orders out of the kitchen, better than most places in town. Service is top notch as well, professional, personable and attentive at the right times. Even though we're not here often, it still feels that we are, the way we're treated.

Yelp
This place f*cks. Plain & simple. The vibes are awesome, the decor & theme is awesome. The staff are super friendly, service is great. Great beer & cocktails selection, and the food is varied and phenomenal. I just moved to Wilmington from Miami, and I have now found my new favorite neighborhood bar/eating spot. They also do live music on the patio outside, this place is just 10/10 across the board.

Yelp
Delicious food!! And great drinks. I'm soo spoiled, my hubs can grill/griddle a steak better than most of the restaurants in Wilmington. If you are looking for a good vibe with great food and drinks you will not be disappointed. The food, drinks and service superb. Sorry I don't have pic of albóndigas and sliders. They were delicious

Yelp
Draft specials to love. Wife with the marg...great bar scene with a hard-to-replicate vibe, small scene, and all the feels. Regular hang

Yelp
Enjoyed the lunch for 5 people. My husband said his chicken 'savage' sandwich and the Mac and cheese were fantastic! I had the meatballs and they were very good too!

Susan R.

Yelp
The barmaid was surely when I asked for a taste of a beer. The beers are small for the price. The customers were kind of rude.

Brittney M.

Yelp
We came here tonight because of the review saying "it f*cks" and it indeed f*cks. Great cocktails, great food, and the staff is awesome!

Yelp
Loved it! Here's why: Eclectic vibe. Loved the bar seating. My margarita was perfection! Tried the sliders and the side combo with fries and pickles. Was a nice dinner for my husband and I. Bartender was excellent...hardworking and attentive enough without being intrusive. Went around 5 on a Saturday and was able to get bar seating. Small place...but worth checking out!

Robin N.

Yelp
Perfect spot for dinner before a concert at the Brooklyn Arts Center or the Sunday lunch cure for a late Saturday night. A little something for everyone. Yes, you can get delicious burgers and wings (ginger rum sauce!), you'll also find plenty of other choices with elevated ingredients. Highly recommend sharing the albondigas, three massive, flavorful meatballs in a birria sauce. The collards give smooth home-cooked goodness of smoked ham hocks, no bitterness or vinegar. Quality craft cocktails, friendly service and relaxed bar vibe deliver. If you can't find a seat inside, head out the side door for more tables. We've visited and enjoyed three times over several months.

Yelp
Amazing place amazing food amazing service. Food was fresh and real and served hot to table. The food comes out as described and expected. Not a single thought of a complaint or dislike about anything here. We will be back

Yelp
Small place with big taste!!! Everything we had was creative and yummy... the sliders and wings crazy good!
